CHAPTER 1
Camera’s flashing everywhere, questions being thrown at them every time they turned around and then he said those two little words that made the whole room go still: “I’m gay.”
@@@@@@@
Management was in an uproar, reporters and tabloids were having a grand ‘ol time at his expense (bothering him and his family band mates), but the best thing about the whole mess was that it was finally out in the open—he had finally gotten it off of his chest—that he, Justin Randall Timberlake, was gay. Another good thing was that the rest of the guys didn’t care about what he had done; they knew that something had been bothering him for a while and they had figured it had something to do with his lack of interest in the female persuasion in the past two years. Sure, they knew that with Justin being the heartthrob of the group that they would end up with some problems but they didn’t care as long as they were all happy. And lately Justin had not been happy.
@@@@@@@
The group was at Justin’s home in Orlando, taking a much-needed break from the press, Jive, fans and non-fans (who seemed to turn up every Justin was just to nag on him). Both his parents and stepparents were there along with Jonathon & Stephen. Justin’s mom—Lynn—was talking on the phone with someone from Jive about the “incident” as management kept calling it while Justnd tnd the rest of the group were sitting out back on the deck talking about what happened.
“Are you guys sure you’rewithwith what I did?” Justin asked for the tenth time since they got outside.
The guys rolled their eyes while Lance told Justin—once again—that yes, they were sure. “Alright. Anyway guys, I got to get out of here for a bit. I think I’ll take a walk or something.” He said getting up and walking into the house.
“OK Justin but just be care—” JC started but before he could finish Justin was inside.
@@@@@@@@@@@
Once inside Justin went to his room to get his shades and his hat and then left. Or tried to leave but someone was blocking his way out the front door when he opened it. Scared him about half to death too.
Justin opened the front door to the wonderful greeting by his 'ex': “Are you out of your mind?!”
“Christ Brit, are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“Well I could ask you the same thing. I turn on the T.V. this morning and that little ‘I’m gay’ thing is headline news! What were you thinking?” Britney yelled.
“Well, I was kinda thinking that I was tired of living a lie. And when I said it, it was like…like…like being free. Do you understand?”
Britney softened a little and said, “No, Justin, I can’t understand because I’m not in your position, but we’re best friends and I’ve been able to see the strain so I can hardly find you at fault for what you did. But, I will say this: be careful. I don’t know how people are going to deal with this.”
Justin smiled. “Thanks Brit. Why don’t you go on in and I’ll see you when I get back.” He said stepping around her and out the door.
“Hey where are you going?” Britney yelled after him.
“For a walk. I need to be alone.” He yelled back. She just nodded--even though he couldn’t see--and then went inside.
@@@@@@@@@@@@
After walking for about a half an hour Justin ended up at a park that was—thankfully—deserted. Or at least he thought it was; because as Justin sat down on a swing he heard something. Or someone, because it sounded like a child crying. He got up and went looking for the source and found a little boy sitting behind a big willow with his knees drawn up to his chest and rocking him self back and forth.
“Hey.” Justin said quietly and when the boy didn’t respond he squatted down and touched his shoulder and said it again. He got a response this time: the little boy jumped back and screamed “No! Leave me alone, please!”
Justin just held his hands up and said softly, “hey, don’t worry kid, I’m not going to you you. I just want to know if you’re alright.”
The little boy looked up at him through tear-stained eyes and asked brokenly, “you promise?” It tore Justin’s heart up to hear such fright and helplessness in someone, especially a child.
“Yes, I promise. I just want to help you. OK?”
The little boy nodded and then jumped into Justin’s arms so hard it knocked him back on is hands. “Whoa!” he exclaimed and then laughed a little, “It’s good to see that you haven’t lost any of your strength!” The little boy just giggled. “Now why don’t we go over to that table and talk, OK?” The boy just nodded his head and then held on tight as Justin carried him over and sat him on one side of the table while he sat on the other. Before starting Justin took off his hat and sunglasses in the shady area.
“So, why don’t we start by giving names huh?” When the boy nodded he said “OK, I’ll go first, I’m Justin. What’s your name?”
“Toby.”
“OK, Toby. I’m 22 years old. How old are you?”
“Five.”
“Five? No your not, your to big and strong looking to be five, you have to at least be ten.” That last statement couldn’t be any further from the truth because Toby looked way too small for his age.
Toby just giggled and shook his head, “Nope I’m five.” Justin gave him a look as if to say “Yeah right”. Toby giggled again and said, “Well I’ll be six in two days. And then I get to start school.”
“Oh, well I guess that explains it then. So why don’t we get down to the problem at hand shall we?” At the boy’s nod and loss of his smile he asked, “ What are you doing out here all alone? Where are your parents?”
Toby’s eyes got teary so Justin went to sit with over to hold him. “Well me and my daddy and my brothers went out for a walk in the park this morning like we always do and today it was really crowded and I got lost. I’ve been looking everywhere for them but I didn’t see them anywhere, and I ended up here and I’ve never been to this side before and some big boys were picking on me because I’m small and ugly and they hurt my shoulder and when I started crying they laughed and ran away and left me alone and then you came along and found me and…and that’s all.” Toby said quickly; so quickly in fact that Justin had a hard time keeping up with him but he did and he was stumped on the fact that anyone would call this kid ugly because Toby was anything but that. Toby was small yes, but you didn’t really see that at all because the first thing that you noticed was his eyes—a most unusual color of blue, they almost looked violet, and then there was his silky looking hair of strawberry blond and then soft pale skin. Toby was anything but ugly. I wonder who he gets his looks from. “Well, Toby, that’s some story. Why don’t we go and look for your dad, I bet he’s very worried about you right now. What does he look like?”
“Daddy looks just like me, accep his skin is tan and he has long hair down to his butt.” Toby whispered that last part and giggled.
“I think, Toby, the word is except not accep but say it how you want to.” Justin smiled thinking about the picture Toby just painted for him of his dad. But Toby interrupted his thoughts with something to make the picture even more perfect: “Oh and he has big muscles and umm…wusitcalled…oh, pissings.”
“Excuse me. Just you just say...‘pissings’?” Justin asked trying not to laugh.
“Yeah, you know in his ears and tongue and bellybudden.”
This time Justin did laugh. “I think Toby, that they’re called ‘piercings’ not ‘pissings’.”
Toby laughed out an “Oh.”
But their laughing was cut short by a male voice yelling Toby’s name shortly followed by two other male voices only childlike. They turned around to see three people running towards them. Two of which—the boys—looked exactly like Toby. The man reached them first and pulled Toby into his arms and held him tight. “Oh my God Toby! I thought I lost you forever.” Toby’s father cried. The two boys arrived then panting and out of breath. They both yelled together: “Toby!” and then joined in the hug. Toby’s dad pulled back and looked Toby in the eyes and said, “Don’t you ever scare me like that again! Do you have any idea how worried we all were?” And then pulled him in for another hug. Justin just sat there not quite sure what to do since the man hadn’t noticed him it seemed. After a minute the man pulled back and asked his son if he was OK.
“Yeah, I’m OK daddy. Me n’Justin were just bout to go looking for you.” At that statement the man looked up and Justin got a good look and was able to tell then and there just who Toby got his looks from.
“Oh, how can I ever thank you?” He asked him.
Justin smiled and said, “Hey it was no problem really, Toby’s a good kid, and it broke my heart seeing him like he was.”
“Well there’s got to be something that I can do for you. A reward, or something?”
At the word ‘reward’ dirty little thoughts ran around in his head and he blushed a little. “Ah no…no that’s OK, really. I don’t need anything.” Justin said to himself, or at least he thought he did.
“Excuse me?” The man asked with a smile and raised eyebrows.
Justin blushed and said intelligently: “Ahh…”
The man’s smile got bigger and he held out his hand. “My name’s Jaden. Jaden Stone.”
Justin took his hand and stammered out: “Justin. Justin Timberl-- ah Timber, Justin Timber.” Unnoticed by Jaden and Justin the boys looked at each other and rolled their eyes. They realized four things: 1) who Justin was 2) their dad had no clue 3) Justin and their father liked each other and 4) because of that their dad was about to kiss Justin’s hand. And that’s just was Jaden did too; as soon as Justin’s hand was in his he bent a little and pulled Justin’s hand to his lips to kiss it. They knew their dad so well.
