Chapter One:
The screams and cheers brought him to a softball field a few blocks from his home. When he got there, he saw a parking lot full of cars and a sign proclaiming that he was at the Stormbreakers Spring Tournament.
He walked over to the opening in the gate and paid a dollar for his ticket. The bleachers were full so he walked behind the breakaway fence in the outfield to stand behind leftfield. From the scoreboard he could tell that it was the last inning with two outs and a count of two and three. It seem that the home team was up to bat and were losing by one run.
The batter hit the next pitch: it was a long fly ball to left-center and the girl ran back to the fence to get it. She reached the fence and jumped as high as she could, glove outstretched to catch the ball. It hit her glove and she fell back against the white fence breaking away part of it. She stood as soon as she landed and held her left arm in the air; the ball securely inside the pocket. The visiting team and the spectators went wild. The game was over; the Stars had won 4-3 against the hosting team the Stormbreakers.
He looked over at the girl to see that she was rubbing the shoulder that she had landed on.
“You ok?” He asked.
She looked over at him and smiled, “Yeah, I’m good. At least it’s not my pitching arm.” The girl smiled at him and he lost his breath. She was beautiful; long blond hair pulled up in a ponytail, silvery eyes, tanned skin, toned body, and about 5’7.
She turned and threw the ball to the centerfielder and then turned back to him. “Did you enjoy the game?”
He nodded, “But I only saw that last play.”
“Haha, well it was a tough game. They were defiantly the team to beat.” She stuck out her hand, “I’m Tai.”
He took it, “Marshall.”
She smiled, “I know who you are Mr. Mathers…My brother’s a big fan.”
He let go and grinned. “Are you a local team?”
“Yeah, the Stormbreakers are our rivals.” She grinned big, “And we finally beat them”
He laughed. “Well, after your meeting with your team stay after and I’ll give you an autograph for your brother.”
“He’ll love that thanks. I’ll meet you by the white car with the big number 9 on the back window.” He nodded and watched her run towards her team and coach.

The only cars left in the parking lot by the time Tai got there were hers, the tournament director’s, and the field crew’s cars.
Tai smiled when she reached her car. “You waited.”
“Yeah. Nothing better to do so I might as well talk to a shitty leftfielder huh?” He smiled to let her know he was kidding.
“Ha! I’ll have you know I’m the best leftfielder in the area. Thankyouverymuch.”
“Modest. I like that in woman.” He chuckled.
She opened the trunk of her car and put her ball bag inside. Tai looked around the parking lot and then back at him, “You come here alone?”
“Yeah, I was out for a walk and I heard the cheers and came to see what was up. You know I never knew such a small group of people could be so loud.”
She laughed. “At games like that the crowd tends tt rot rowdy. So you’re aloud to go out by yourself then? I thought a big star like you would have body guards everywhere.” She closed the trunk and sat on top.
He jumped up as well when she patted the spot next to her. “I can take care of myself. Besides they’re not really assigned to me at home.” He shrugged. “So how long have you been playing?”
“Since I was eight. So seventeen years.”
“You’re twenty-five?” He had though she was only twenty.
Tai laughed. “Yeah, I’m twenty-five.” She lost her smile. “This is my last year playing too.”
“Why?”
She sighed, “because the organization is 25U. So when I turn twenty-six, I’ll be too old to play.”
“Oh. I’m sorry.”
She looked at him for a second and tilted her head. “You are aren’t you.” She stated. “You don’t even know me.” She smiled slightly.
“Well, I mean, you have been playing for so long that it’s probably your world. Kind of like music is for me. I can’t imagine not being aloud to do what I do.”
“Thanks. Mr. Mathers.”
“Just Marshall.” He grinned at her. “That ‘Mr.’ stuff makes me feel older than my thirty years.”
“Ok then Marshall.” She looked at her watch: 12:30. “Well it’s lunch time. You hungry?”
“Yeah sure. Where do you wanna go?”
“Well, I was going to go to my family’s restaurant for lunch. They wanted me to come and tell them how the game went.” She looked uncertain.
“Yeah, that’s cool. What’s it called?” He jumped down and then helped her down as well.
She blushed slightly when his hands left her waist. “Thanks. Ah it’s a real fancy restaurant called Blue Roses.”
“Oh! Yeah, I’ve been there. We had a sorta after party dinner there once.” He looked her over and grinned. “And the last time I checked, the dress code was…dressy.”
She looked down at herself and chuckled; her uniform—which consisted of a sleeveless jersey and mesh shorts, sliding shorts, ball socks, and cleats—was covered with dirt and grass stains. “Oh, I go in there all the time after our games and practices like this. The repeat customers are use to it.” Tai looked at him with a grin.
“What about all the new customers?”
“Oh, they look at me in disgust and contempt.” She sniffed. “I just wave and smile at them.” She leaned in and whispered, “They don’t really like that too much.” He laughed and got in the passenger side when she opened the door.
END CHAPTER ONE
NOTES:
25U means twenty-five and under. there’s only 20U.
I don’t know anything about the geography of Detroit or where Emineves ves so everything pertaining to that is made up. That includes the teams, and the restaurant. Thanks.
Well, that’s chapter one. Tell me what you think. If you have any title ideas let me know.
