Every Fans Dream
Ana quickly ran for the terminal, she had been detained by security and the fact she has metal in her arm from an accident years before. She thought to herself: “damn it why didn’t I just tell him to begin with, I should have known that was the reason.” As she neared the terminal she slowed down and breathed easy relieved to see there was still quite a long line to board the plane. Ana was going to England, a lifelong dream of hers, finally realized at the end of a longnfulnful breakup. She had to get away, away from her life, her memories, and above all, away from George.
Ana stood at the back of the line, keeping her distance from all, just wanting some space to breathe, to think. She remembered the night she had come home, she had been working the night shift, as all interns had to do it early in their careers. It had been a particularly rough night as a dear friend had come in late, her dog hit by a car, a bloody mess, and half gone. She did all she could, but as it was 3am and there was hardly anyone there to help, they lost the dog. Her friend was devastated, and it brought back old memories of her dog. He had broken his back, died. It pained her even five years later. She finally got off her shift around 5am and headed home. She stopped by a dunkin donuts for some coffee and a Danish. Her normal routine, but that day would turn out to be anything but normal. She pulled in and just happened to notice another car parked behind the bushes in their yard. “Odd” she thought, but she simply shrugged it off as maybe another of George’s friends. George was a mechanic you see, he was always doing favors for people. That was something she loved about him. So willing, and generous. But apparently there was a side to this man she’d never seen, and was about to witness first hand. She walked into her second story apartment. – people hadn’t lived below them in years. Took a quick shower, and thought to retire to her room before George had to leave for work, maybe get in some good couple time. What she found, haunts her dreams to this day, four months later.
Ana shook her head, not wanting to think about it. She looked up to the line and noticed most of the people in it had boarded and only a few remained. She walked up to the very back of the line. When it was her turn, she handed the stewardess her boarding pass, walked down the corridor leading to the plane. She took a deep breath and stepped on. Ana hated flying, but she knew this to be her only way of spending as much time in England as she wished to. Ana took her seat, strapped her seat belt on and held on tight. Her nails practically digging into the arm rests. Hopefully the valium she had taken before leaving for the airport would help her deal with the long flight. If not, she planned to get GOOD AND DRUNK. The take-off was quite uneventful thank heavens, so she began to relax and pulled out a magazine. She had always been a fan of a certain young, well known British actor, and hunted down photographs any chance she got, for her ever growing scrap book. “Right on!” she thought, as she turned to page 52 where a handsome young princered red back. “Paris”, she sighed under her breath. He always got to her, but somehow the thought of starting a war for love, and Paris turned her into a sappy, drooling teenager. She drifted off to sleep still staring at the vision thas ths the young prince, still she sighed one final time.
Ana heard a scream, she looked around, she didn’t recognize where she was. She turned around, she called out “helloooo? Is anyone there?” but only got an echo in return. Ana was frightened. She entered a door on her left, and entered a room full of empty boxes, dust covered every inch. “What was that?” She turned around again, as she felt as though someone or something had touched her. She heard something, very faint at first, “Missssss Lorannnn”. It was very far away, but yes, she heard someone calling her name. Again she felt something or someone touch her. She turned around once more before hearing her name, this time they called “Annnna…help.” Just then she woke up being shook awake by a stewardess. “Miss Loran” she said “we’ve arrived, it’s time to go.” Ana whipped her forehead of the sweat, she hoped was caused by the fact she was under a heater. She shrugged and stood up, taking her bag from the over head compartment. She thanked the stewardess and walked away. “She must think me crazy” she thought “all that sweating, and I just know it had to have been because of that dream….” Her thoughts trailed off as she exited the plane and saw her friend standing in the terminal. “Julie!” she ran to her friend and they hugged. “Ana, love, I’ve missed you”
“I’ve missed you too honey. Where’s Eric?”
“He’s waiting in the car. Lazy thing, I asked him to come to help with bags, but he’s listening to a bloody radio show.”
“Awe, got to love that guy, so thoughtful, so sweet, Okay, let’s go grab my bags and we can go”
The two friends laughed and walked off together.
As the girls walked out Julie looked off to the left and stopped dead in her tracks. “Julie?” she asked puzzled. “Look Ana. I wonder what they’re all looking at?” Ana scanned the lobby searching for what Julie was staring at. A huge line of girls stood crowded against a window. “Lets go have a look Jules.” They wandered over to the window, but the girls were so many they couldn’t see a thing. “Ask someone what they’re looking at Julie”
“No, I don’t think I want to know, look at that girl, she’s flashing someone”
“Oh fine, I guess you’re right. Best not to know, probably some boy-band jailbait or something”
“Right love, let’s go”
They turned to leave and Ana caught a glimpse of what she thought to be the name Bloom. “Hmm, Bloom” she wondered to herself.
They left the airport and Julie yelled to her husband who was sitting half in half out of his car “why don’t you give us a hand ya lazy oaf”
Eric looked up and smiled “Hi Ana, so good to see you. Let me help” and he took her bags and stuffed them into the trunk and they were off.
“Welcome to London Ana” Eric said as he waved his hand towards a skyline.
“Thank you dear. It’s lovely.”
“Anything you would like to do Ana?” Julie asked.
“Well, it’d always be nice to eat.”
“Sure, I had some tea and biscuits ready before we left to pick you up. How’s that sound?”
“Biscuits? Hmm alright I suppose. Though I’m not sure I have the right idea of biscuit”
Eric and Julie laughed. “It’s okay love. We’ll find you something!”
The friends spent the first evening there just talking. Ana felt great, she hadn’t felt at ease with people like this in a long time. She wished she could stay forever. Eric later in the evening got a bit too curious for Ana’s liking. “Ana, what happened? Why did you and George break up? Last I heard you two were so happy.” Ana’s face began to feel hot and she felt the anger and betrayal rise again to the surface. She didn’t want to talk about this, she couldn’t even think about it! Julie noticed Ana’s face getting red and changed the subject. “So Ana, anything you would be wanting to do while you’re here?” Ana didn’t hear her. All she heard was her heart beating. The blood rushing to her head, she needed air, and she needed it now. She stood up and walked away, to the door. “Excuse me” she said and left.
Ana stood outside the door breathing in the cool night air, she could smell rain. “Nice” she thought “Rain always calms me down. I’ll take a walk” As Ana walked she felt everything, the weight of her life back in New York come rushing back. It was like a flood gate had been opened, rather broken. She made her way down the path to the road, thinking about things. Thinking about how her life had gone so wrong, she wished she hadn’t seen what she had, heard the things he said. She wanted everything to be back to the way it had been. She had been happy, Eric was right. “Ignorance is bliss” she thought to herself. Just as she was about to look around and see where she was going she heard Julie calling her. She was running to catch up with her. “Ana, wait up hun” “Hey Julie. I’m sorry for the way I left. I just had to get out and get some air. I felt as though I couldn’t breathe. Thinking about George again, it just hurt too much” “It’s quite alright. I gave Eric a good tongue lashing for prying like that.” Ana laughed. “Poor Eric, I feel for him” “ANA! honestly, I’m not that awful am I?” Ana just smiled, and the two walked on silent for a while enjoying the night air.
The next morning Ana awoke to the sound of birds chirping outside her window. She looked at her watch and it read 4:00AM, Ana looked confused. “It’s light out” she mouthed. “London, Ana. You’re in London, remember.” She yawned and stretched. She certainly felt better than last night. She got out of bed, showered and changed. Julie called up “Ana, breakfast love.” Ana smiled, she felt wonderful actually. She went downstairs to see her friends at a table sipping tea and eating what looked like sugar cookies. “Morning Eric, might I borrow a piece of that paper?” Eric looked up from the paper and handed her what he wasn’t looking at. She began flipping through and suddenly stopped noticing a familiar face. She stood up “ORLANDO!” and she squealed. “Ana, what is it?” Julie asked surprised and rather frightened at her friends sudden outburst. Ana looked at her friend and felt terribly embarrassed. “Oh, nothing. It’s just I’ve got a huge crush on this fellow. And I always turn into an idiot when I see him.” Julie interested leaned over to see who she was talking about. “Oh, Orlando Bloom. Yes, a handsome fellow indeed. But honestly Ana, you scared me” Ana felt herself turn red and she hid behind her paper hoping her friends wouldn’t notice. “Says he’s here working on a film Jules”
“Is he?”
“Says so, and here for a premier? Calcium Kid it says”
“Oh” Eric said looking up from his paper
They both looked up at him and his odd sudden interest in the conversation.
“What?” they both said in unison.
“Oh, nothing really. I just have tickets to that premier. Through work.”
Ana felt her heart drop, could she, no she shouldn’t even think like that. But, then again, he did have tickets, and he was supposed to be there. She started at Eric. He began to feel uneasy, he could see a change in her eyes. She looked hungry, almost predatory. “Eric, you must take me! I’d die to meet Orlando Bloom!” Eric looked at her, the look in her eyes told him to fear for his life if he were to do anything but agree.
“Okay, but I only have two passes. So, Jules, you up for it?”
Ana squealed like a child and hugged Eric so tight he could hardly breath.
“Thank you, thank you more than you could ever imagine.”
For the next week or so Ana, Eric and Jules spent time seeing London. The London Aquarium, London Tower (which Eric described as being terribly romantic), Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, all the normal tourist spots. Ana really loved the Medieval Torture Musuem But the London Zoo was her absolute favorite. It just so happened though, Orlando was there the same day. Yes, that’s right, and how did it go? Did Ana meet Orlando? Yes, she did, but in a way you could only have imagined.
Ana and Julie walked up to the gates Ana wore a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans as it wasn’t exactly a warm day for the end of May. Julie handed the cashier money for the admission and they walked on. It was mid-day on a Monday so it wasn’t too crowded, Ana was happy for that, as she didn’t handle crowds too well. She was a bit anti-social to be truthful. It was a beautiful day, the light chill on the air, and a clear sky oddly enough. She’d always heard England was dark all the time, gray skies never any sunshine. They walked around for a while admiring the large cats in the beauty, the elephants spectacular size and the simply adorable little meercats. They reached an indoor exhibit and entered. It was basically empty save for a few kids in the back teasing a monkey. “Ahh Julie peace and quiet, lets stay here for a while, it’s rather nice.” The girls stared into a monkey exhibit and three tiny monkeys sat and stared back. Ana said “Gee I feel like they should have their hands over their eyes mouth and ears.” Julie laughed “Yea see no evil, speak no evil and do no evil” Ana just replied “no dear, if it were do no evil their hands would be over their privates.”
The girls sat and talked for quite a while, when someone entered the exhibit, someone neither of them had ever expected to see there. The door slammed shut and Ana jumped not expecting it. She turned to see what had happened and upon seeing the fellow who had entered froze and could do nothing but utter little squeaks and grunts. Julie not understanding what her problem was turned the direction her friend was staring in so intently. “Orlando Bloom” she yelled. He turned to look at them, smiled, and nodded his head. Julie tried to pull Ana up to go and talk to Orlando as she knew how much her friend adored this one person, but Ana would not budge. All her fantasy’s, all her dreams, she had never truly expected to meet him, and she certainly had not expected to act in such a way. She couldn’t even move to go and speak to him! So her friend walked up to him, introduced herself and asked if he could come talk to her friend on the bench. He agreed and walked in her direction, Ana seeing this wanted to die. All she wished for was a brown paper bag to put over her head, to hide. She felt like an absolute fool.
Orlando walked over to her, she slowly stood to greet him, her legs shook threatening to give out. “Hello Love” He reached his hand out to her, she couldn’t believe she was about to shake the hand, no touch the hand of a man who had so often haunted her dreams. She took his hand and just barely uttered the words “Mr Bloom”. He smiled at Julie, then back at Ana. “What’s your name dear?” Ana just stared, stared – that is until Julie smacked her in the back of the head saying: “wake up Ana!” That jolted her back to reality, and she looked around for what she had been staring at. Nothing, she looked utterly confused. “I, I saw him, what happened? He was here wasn’t he?” “Who was here Ana? You drifted off into your own little world and were mumbling and drooling. I couldn’t understand a word you were saying.” Ana looked down to her feet and felt embarrassed once again. She thought to herself, ‘damn so close yet so very far..’ Julie just laughed, grabbed Ana’s arm and walked off in the direction of the exit.
The girls spent the rest of the day enjoying the zoo, talking, eating. Every day there was spent in much the same way. Off at some tourist spot, talking. She had been there a week by now, and was feeling quite anxious for the premier for Calcium Kid. She however often wondered if she had dreamt that as well. She shrugged it off, and thought “Ah well I guess we’ll see when the time comes, no use making a fool of myself asking Eric if I had dreamt it.” The day was slowly creeping up on them, Ana knew she had to look her absolute best if she was going to have the possibility of meeting Orlando. She asked Jules if she felt like going shopping Tuesday afternoon.
“Sorry, I can’t, is there something you needed?”
“Well, I wanted to buy a dress.”
“Hmm, a dress, well I might have something you could borrow. Go have a look, if not we’ll find something.” Julie smiled and left.
“Thanks Jules”
‘Hmm, yes let’s go have a look’ Ana said to herself and walked off in the direction of Julies closet. She opened the doors to Julies closet and shocked thought to herself as she looked at the enormous closet packed full of designer clothes. ‘Oh this is going to take a while, it’s almost bigger than the guestroom!’
