Warning: Yaoi, please don’t read if you don’t like this. And don’t read if this pairing isn’t your cup of tea, or if you’re some bigot who doesn’t know what’s good for you and when to shut up and act decent. Don’t do upon others what you don’t want to be done upon. Flamers are retards. Yes, my dear, it’s universal.
Plot Cockroach: Two assignments down – tag! ve ave a couple more, but let’s take a quick break, shall we? (July 17, 2004) Oh, rated (kinda) for reference to 'suicide', sexual implications.
Pairing: Yoshiki x hide
Summary: There is always a little magic somewhere in our s. Ws. Where it is, depends on a little magic on our part.

“I can’t believe you’d do that!”
“Well, I composed it—“
“And I know my parts! Look here, buddy, you don’t know great chords when you see one. I mean, look at this… hey! HEY! You’re switching the whole goddamn thing!”
“And rightly so. This part is wrong. Off. Erroneous. Discordant. Inharmonious. I’m not having it in the sheets.”
“It stands out and brings the piece to life.”
“We’re doing beauty here, hide-chan. I’m not going to put that in, something so trashy… we’re looking at harmony.”
“MY WORK IS NOT TRASHY! It harmonizes just fine!”
“It would work were our fans, and I, deaf.”
“Hey, Picasso was deaf when he played the piano!”
“He played the piano?”
They were somehow always arguing. Over something big, over something small. And that that moment, over Picasso and his piano playing ways. But that wasn’t technically important. Despite their disputes, they steadfastly remained friends. Given, it was a little odd at times, but also quite amusing at others. Or frustrating.
The other band members smacked their heads.
“Yeah! And he played the guitar too.”
“I didn’t know that.” The blond folded his arms, lifting an ever-serious brow. Hide put his hands on his hips and smirked triumphantly.
“That’s because you’re silly. See? I’m right. The part stays as it is.” He nodded, and that was that. Well, before Yoshiki cut in.
“Actually, it was Beethoven.”
“It is? Oh well, no matter!” he waved it away casually.
He was a bit weird and colorful, but it didn’t bother them because he had, of all, a bright personality and a quirky sense of humor. They’d even considered it good, because it meant that he could easily see the funny side of things. He was definitely intelligent, but he knew how to put things in a light way which may sound strangely insane or air headed to some, but more or less meaning to bring comfort when it hurts most. What with off-stage and on-stage personalities, it was hard to distinguish because it finally became quite a thin line. An image projected for the fans and media could eat into your life, no matter what or how little. Sometimes you wouldn’t even notice it. And sometimes, just sometimes, it feels so good to escape everything, that you develop it and apply it into your system.
To someone like Yoshiki, who had seen a harsh side of life even when he was little, having ambitions large enough for a continent, it was an attraction. It was… different, magical even. But it was better never to admit things like that. It ruined perfect Mag Magic was for sissies. Or gay people. Now, if it were Yoshiki, he had enough flings with women to prove how un-gay he was.
They were complete opposites. Yoshiki was serious, determined, headstrong, and one hell of a good composer. His works flowed like water, harmonizing even with the most dissonant instruments ever to be put in one single piece. He knew what he was doing in a very sharp, clear way. He was intelligent, articulate, and never, never, ever wrong. Yoshiki was perfect. A stern perfect guy, yeah, but perfect nonetheless.
Except for that little weakness.
And that little weakness being an affinity for some outrageous person. No money for guessing it right.
It was going on and on. The blond didn’t like to discuss it much, even with himself. He was very sure it was a one-way thing, that some open person like hide would never possibly see it, and he would keep being best buddies with the guy he flirted occasionally with, just for the heck of doing something, well, outrageous. Yoshiki didn’t like heartbreak. He didn’t like commitment, and he didn’t like too much hanky-panky within the band, because band members falling in love with each other was bad for business. It was a bad omen. Kinda like the weatherman predicting a swarm of locusts attacking the Statue of Liberty.
Don’t believe it? Believe it.
Okay, so that sentence didn’t make any sense. You know, Ripley’s could be using radio waves to brainwash us all.
Anyway, it was obvious that nothing stays static, not when hide was around. There was this swimming pool incident not mentioned in polite circles… and we’re not going to mention it now either.
It was drizzling.
The streets were wet and slippery as the blond made his way across the gravel walk to pavement under the trees. His black umbrella seemed to suck in the fresh, pale colors of spring, as the new green grass was sprouting. A damp smell of something new, he could feel it in his bones. Something was about to happen.
“YAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!”
The umbrella flew several feet away as a big pink soppy spider swung down to face him from one of the low branches of a tree. Yoshiki tripped and fell back on his buttocks on the pavement, his face wearing the expression of absolute shock.
“HA hahahahahahaha!”
“…hide…” Yoshiki mumbled and pushed himself up. Thank goodness he wasn’t that old to break a few bones yet. “What are you doing here?”
“Well… I finally cornered myself and told me I had something important to do. I couldn’t delay it anymore. So here I am, doing it.”
“Scaring me is important?” Yoshiki wasn’t very touched. He picked his umbrella up and held it over his head, tucking it into an arm and folding his arms to keep it standing upright.
“Nope, that wasn’t all it,” hide grinned, obviously having been there and planning it early as he was soaked to the skin. Whatever it was, he probably thought this stunt was worth braving the cold for. Stupid, stupid spider. Great pink stupid thing.
“Then what is it?”
The lane was deserted. It seemed like nobody wanted to move around with the chance of getting wet and cold. A few cars zoomed by, and it was pleasantly quiet and clean. Hide’s bright stripped clothes contrasted against the cool green of new leaves, under the tree, stray drops of water flowing down his upside down form. Time stood still and they looked at each other for a while. And for the first time in ages, hide blushed when he wasn’t drunk.
“Err…”
“Well?”
“Yoshiki… umm… you know, that… my problems? Love-thingy…” he started, and then got lost in silence. And then came the gem he blurted out: “I just wanted to make love, not fall in love!”
Yoshiki promptly collapsed the umbrella and whapped hide with it.
“OWW! What was that for?”
“I know you do. How many bottles were you on before this?”
“I didn’t drink this morning dammit!” hide protested, rubbing his head, still upside down. The blood rushing ts hes head didn’t help with the crimson fiery blush at all. “Geez, why is this so hard anyway? I hate falling in love! Love like this is stupid! ...” he trailed away.
“But so very desirable… especially with a stern old geezer like you.”
Yoshiki was in shock. Partially because this was a confession of sorts, and coming from hide. And partially because he was called an old geezer.
“But I guess it’s for the best. I tell you now, then I nurse it and it’ll be a-okay,” he reasoned, not at all noticing that Yoshiki wasn’t moving or putting the umbrella back up despite the rain. “I’m okay now; I got it out of my system. Wahoo yay.”
He paused, and then smiled gently. Under the rain, he looked rather soft. Yoshiki continued to stare. And hide reached up, upside down, to press his lips against the blond’s. The rain continued to fall on both men in a gentle patter, showering them with the cool scent of spring and all the hope it could bring for. After the Last Live, things had looked pretty bleak.
The pink-haired guitarist pulled away, easing himself up the tree rather like the spider he was. He carefully climbed down the tree and scuttled away down the pavement, out of sight as he turned the corner. He hadn’t expected Yoshiki to follow; Yoshiki would not. He stared on. It was just like hide to do something this outrageous, wasn’t it? To get it out of his system, and to forget miseries and to get over them. It worked like magic.
The clouds parted, allowing stray rays of the sun to shine down on the blond, warming him up and bringing to life the colors surrounding him.
It was drizzling.
The streets were wet and slippery as the blond made his way across the gravel walk to pavement under the trees. His black umbrella seemed to suck in the fresh, pale colors of spring, as the new green grass was sprouting. A damp smell of something new, he could feel it in his bones. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, right after he reached the tree, where all those years ago…
Where all those years ago… something happened.
Nothing stayed static, not when hide was around. He looked up the tree, and realized that things would never change again.
Throughout the little rollercoaster ride he had been living, Yoshiki had learnt many things. When someone told you something good, and discouraged you from doing something bad, it can be hard to accept it at times. When someone you knew loved you and you loved them, went away for a long, long trip so that you might never see them again, you think back, and you realize that it wasn’t so hard to accept after all.
You see, as the story goes, Yoshiki had been discouraged from killing himself by that someone who told him something good on one fine spring day. Yoshiki found it very hard to agree with hide on that subject, because a lot of things had gone wrong. His dreams had collapsed then, and there was nothing left. But even with his great fear of falling in love,e hae had made sure that he pulled through by weaving his magic into it, because he could see that he needed it, even if he failed to acknowledge it.
And Yoshiki knew, that, admit it or not, they did love each other. Perhaps as a brother, perhaps as a friend. Perhaps as lovers which were never meant to be, not in this lifetime.
He held up a stick.
“What’s that?”
“Something illegal,” hide answered cheerfully. “Anyway I was just gonna celebrate the days Yoshiki stayed alive although some things crapped up. I thought you might like some cool magic show.”
“Tsk. Childish.”
“HEY, oh come on, you’re not THAT old, Yo-chan,” he lighted one end of the stick-like object in his apartment balcony. It was a small sparkler. Yoshiki stared at it with an incredulous look on his face.
“Sparklers aren’t illegal.”
“Nope, but it is in an apartment!” he cheered, sweeping some cloth aside to reveal a small papier-mâché tin of firecrackers and rockets. “And so are these!”
“HIDE!”
“Speed freaks baby rocket dive!!!”
“HIDE!!”
“Oh come on! You know I’m the only one capable enough to pull of something stupid! It’s gonna be okay! Sit back and enjoy the show, beloved-person,” hide patted his head affectionately. The blond glared at him, at a loss of what to do. It was obvious that the only similarity they shared was their stubbornness. He wasn’t going to listen. He gathered the tin of fireworks in his arms, sticking the sparkler in and hurriedly tossing the damned thing into the air as far away as his arms would let him.
“Abracad ala alakazam!!”
Five seconds later the tin exploded with the fireworks, in bright colors Yoshiki had never seen before in such a near angle. It was magic… as was the radiant glow on both men’s faces as they admired the pounding colors and noise.
A tenant below them screamed obscenities at the two men, for it was three in the morning.
The lane was deserted. The rain continued to fall on Yoshiki in a gentle stream, showering the blond with the cool scent of spring and all the wishes one could ever hope for.
Yoshiki took of his shades and blew a silent kiss to the rain that fell that day. The bleary clouds parted, allowing a few stray rays of the sun to fall down upon on the blond, warming him up and bringing to life the fresh new colors surrounding him. And he could feel, amid his unseen tears, that smile shining down on him, just like it had on a spring day years before.
It was the night/morning three weeks before his death when hide had taught him that magic wasn’t meant for sissies, by that crazy little fireworks display. He smiled as he remembered it as clear as yesterday.
“Abracadabra, hide…”
We often feel that our lives are boring and mundane and that things would always be the same as you ate, slept, communicated, lived and breathed. Sometimes we tend to forget that life itself would come to life if we did things that were different, that would require our own strength – and no one weak would ever succeed in getting that done. Magic is not meant for sissies. Because, as it is, magic in life is meant for the strong, who are in truth those that would make it happen for real. It was the little things that you dared to do for those you love, no matter how ridiculous or how it pains you, that made it really wonderful, really amazing.
“Abracadabra.”
