Chapter 1

He was a sufficiently strong man, in spite of being fat with rather short legs. It never occurred to me that to "get" him I would have to waste precious minutes, ten more minutes than I had intended.
But I would get results, and he finally fell at my feet. I didn’t wait for the pooling blood to reach my shoes. I threw the pistol on the prostrate body and snuck away.

Hello. My name is Daniel Jones and I am a killer. You heard correctly, I am professional killer. Yes, I have a family. I have loving parents and two senior brothers, with loving wives and children. They have more tranquil professions.

You may ask me why I chose that profession…. Hm ….. Because of money, women, respect and the enourmous rush I get from adrenaline pumping through my blood.

I calmly go along the corridor, trying to blend in, at the same time running a hand through my unruly hair which had become even more mussed during the short fight. Loud feminine shouting behind my back made me flinch. I hear loud steps in the corridor, coming in my direction. I was forced to increase my pace and headed for the lift.

“Stop!” A loud man’s voice. I increase my pace. I have two rules in my profession – to be invisible and don’t let anyone to catch me. He’s already made me break my first rule. So I run.

“Stop him”. “Stop that bastard”.

Having evaluated the situation, I decided that wasting time trying to take the lift down would be a death sentence. I ran for the stairway but my way was blocked by very strong man. Window. I noticed a window, leading to the roof, whence I can easily get away on the fire-escape into courtyard. I ran to the window and jumped. It was a bit high, but I thought I could do it safely.

“God, help me.” I wished my persuers to kiss my ass and jump down to the fire-escape. Suddenly I feel a sharp nock in my left shoulder and then a strong burning pain. I lost my balance and fell to the ground.

«They hit me, bastards!».

I fell heavily to the ground and blacked out a moment. "Damnit." I whispered as my leg throbbed. I probably broke it when I fell. Anyway, pain meant life.
I gathered the last of my strength and willpower, and crawled away down the dirty streets in the hope of escaping my hunters. I finally came to a deserted alley. Falling onto a heap of rubbish, I let blackness take me.
