Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know the members of Green Day. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Disclaimer to cover all chapters: I do not own Green Day, Sam Bayer or anyone else mentioned in this story. I am making no money from this, it’s just my bizarre little mind. I have made this total fiction..no wives, no kids just a story and it’s my first ever so hope it ends up ok. It’s not based on the set of any particular video either...all fiction.
Tallie groggily opened her eyes, the bedroom was flooded with light, even through the heavy velvet curtains. Her head felt like lead, the last memory of the bottle of vodka that she had managed to get through the night before.
“Shit!” she made a desperate attempt to jump out of bed at the shock of noticing the time and in the process ended up entwining herself in the duvet. She landed like a large scarlet caterpillar on the rug beside the bed, bound up in the bedding like a mummy.
‘fuck it I’m late.’ crawling towards the bathroom door she began to regret even taking this damn job. Straight out of college, this particular job had come to her through a friend of a friend of a...someone but anyway she had talked the talk and made out like she was the best and the job was her’s. Pyrotechnics expert, it sounded good and the ad in the paper had got her plenty of attention. In reality she was Tallie Clarke, twenty four year old disaster area.
After a quick shower Tallie grabbed at the first items of clothing that fell out of the drawer, black combat trousers, a red vest with zips across the front and her rapidly dissolving converse. She frowned at her reflection in the mirror, damn the god of zits already, it would have to be a ‘make up to the rescue job’. Her long black hair lay in thick matted waves around her shoulders, Tallie dragged a comb roughly through it and grabbed the strands into two bunches which hung down around her neck. With quick glances at the clock every minute she smoothed on the layers of foundation to cover zit of the year. Fuck the fact that she was late, first appearances count after all and besides, Tallie wasn’t one to care what anyone thought about her time keeping. With a dusting of powder, eyeshadow and extreme amounts of black kohl eyeliner she was ready to go.
Twenty minutes later Tallie stood at the bus stop, she had already missed the bus she had intended on catching which had probably arrived while she was still asleep but there was supposed to be another due any minute.
“The bus, have I missed it?” She asked a bearded tramp who sat on a blanket beside her.
“Bus...no don’t think so. Do ya have any change?” He replied, rattling an ancient baked bean can at her.
“No, fuck off, Go get a job or better still get a bath because do you know what...you stink!” Tallie shouted, the tramp flinched at her words and then frowned.
“You young lady are a very rude and ungrateful for what you have.”
“Yeah, well for your information I’m not prepared to explain myself to some nobody when I’m already late. Just tell me if I’ve missed the fucking bus!”
“No bus...there is no bus here.” He smiled and took another swig from a bottle of gin before grinning a hideous toothless grin. Tallie made a big deal of huffing and strode past him, she was sure that if she spent another five seconds with that guy it would drive her mad. Noticing a passing cab she waved her arm madly.
“Where ya going” The blonde cab driver asked through the window.
“Here,” Tallie handed him the piece of paper with the address on it.
“Yeah sure get in.” He croaked, blowing a mouthful of smoke into her face. Tallie jumped in the back of the cab, dumping her bag beside her. “What ya doin at a place like that?” He asked.
“What you mean the hanger? there’s a band recording a video there. I’m the pyrotechnics expert so I should really be there like, as soon as possible.”
“You mean you’re late!” He laughed, putting his foot down suddenly and sending her flying back into the seat.

Sam Bayer stood, hands on hips watching the chaos that was unfolding in front of him. The sets were not standing upright, the electrics kept on cutting out and to make things worse the very person he was looking for had gone awol.
“Gloria!” He grabbed at the platinum blonde who had crossed his path.
“Yes Sam.” She smiled.
“My plans are screwing up, things are not going right, where the fuck is Tre?”
“Um not sure but I think he may be outside somewhere.....getting...some...air?” Gloria suggested, not really knowing the whereabouts of Tre at all but trying to keep Sam calm.
“Sam”,
“What now?” Sam blared, turning suddenly and facing Billie Joe, who stood back holding his hands up. “Shit, sorry man, I mean things are going wrong today. Gloria shoulda checked on who was due in today.”
“Fuck.....off”. Gloria gave a middle finger salute and flounced off towards the back door.
“That’s ok, um how long is this gonna take?” Billie watched her leave and leaned against the wall.
“Well, it would have been a day but...oh hell the set has just collapsed and Pete’s not earth wired the electronics and the pyrotechnics girl hasn’t turned up. I tell ya Billie, that’s the last time I hire someone from a newspaper ad.” Sam grabbed at his hair and looked exasperated.
“Is that her?” Billie asked after a while. Sam looked up and noticed a dark haired girl arguing with the security guard at the back door.
“Oh god I hope not.” Sam groaned, noticing Tre headed off in the direction of the toilets. Billie glanced at his watch and debated wether he could escape for a cigarette without Sam noticing when he heard a commotion from the doorway. The dark haired girl was still arguing with one of the security guards but getting louder. She had obviously gone beyond the usual teeny fan state as she had been bought inside and the burly bouncer was trying to calm her down.
“Problems?” Billie asked, lighting his cigarette.
“No not really, this young lady claims she works here. But I can’t confirm that.”
“I left my ID card at home. I’m sorry, so what’s the fucking problem!” the girl shouted, getting her face closer to the bouncer, grimacing like a demon. Billie stood back, she obviously knew what she was doing
“No entry to set until you show me id.”
“I told you, I forgot it. Get Sam, he’ll know.” The girl persisted pushing at the arm of the bouncer like she was spoiling for a fight. Billie took his as his moment to step in,
“This one’s ok, she’s with us.”
“But she doesn’t have ID, I’m not allowed to let anyone in without a...he paused as Billie flashed his ID laminate in front of his eyes , “Er well if she’s with you...let me know if there is any breach in security” Tallie watched the fat muscled guy practically run into the distance. What the hell was up with him? She flicked her eyes quickly back to the dark haired man who had stood up for her. He was slightly taller than her and wore black jeans with a black shirt. His hair was stuck up in jet black spikes and his eyes, they transfixed her, making her speechless for the first time that day.
“Thanks.” She managed, pulling her bags back up onto her back.
“Where are you supposed to be? “
“Um, don’t know but I tell you what... I need a cigarette!” Tallie announced, pushing past Billie and heading towards the back of the set, intent on finding somewhere out of Sam’s view. Right now she needed a major nicotine fix. Billie watched her pass and smiled, maybe filming this video wouldn’t be so bad.
