Lorne walked down the hall to Angel’s office humming the show tune du jour. He was on his way to talk to Angel about a possible new client. Said client had had some weird things happening in his new apartment and his agent had recommended Angel and his team.
However, the prospect of a new client was not what had Lorne humming and dancing down the hall. Oh no, it was who this particular client was, that was the cause of the impromptu Broadway tribute. You see, the client was one of Lorne’s most favourite actors. Not so much because he was a good actor, but rather because Lorne had a little fan girl hiding inside him (not literally), who had had a crush on this guy since he made it big. Let’s just say Lorne was feeling mighty giddy.
Finally reaching Angel’s office, he winked at Harmony before opening the door to walk in.
What he saw when he stepped into the office was actually nothing unusual. Angel was seated behind his desk sending death glares toward the other person, or rather vampire in the room.
“I’m just saying that since I’ve been doing so much of the work in this place I at least deserve a raise, or at least the keys to the Viper.” Spike said with a smirk.
“Spike!” Angel sneered through gritted teeth, “First of all, you’re not an employee in this firm. Secondly, nobody drives the Viper but me!” The last part came out more petulantly than Angel had intended, but really, the Viper was his baby. Would you give your baby to some insane vampire with all his brain cells fried from too much peroxide?
“Yeah…’s not as if I wanna be employed by you anyway.” Spike snarked, “Wouldn’t want anyone to actually challenge you instead of just following your every order.” With he turned around and strode out of the room with a swish of leather and a “Poof!” directed at Angel before the door slammed.
With a sigh Angel rubbed his eyes and muttered, “One of these days he’s gonna find himself on the wrong end of a stake.” He hadn’t even noticed Lorne standing there yet.
Lorne cleared his throat to get Angel’s attention, and when Angel looked up he smiled at him before walking over and taking a seat in one of the chair in front of Angel’s desk.
“Angel-cakes, don’t be so hard on him. He just wants to fit in.”
“But why can’t he find somewhere else to fit in? Why does it have to be here?” Angel asked with a pout.
Lorne snickered internally at the vampire sitting across from him. To think that Angel and Spike were once two of the most feared vampires in the world, and here they were bickering like small children.
“Just think good and long about what it would be like if Spike wasn’t here.” Lorne said patiently. Deep down the two vampire loved each other. They were family.
“Peaceful?” Angel suggested with a smile.
“Try boring, sweet cheeks.” Lorne said with a smile.
“Lorne, you of all people should know that it’s never boring around here.” Angel said smiling back. “But I’ll give you this much, Spike keeps me on my toes.”
“Alright, now that that’s settled, I have some excellent news!” Lorne stood up spreading his arms wide. Angel lifted his eyebrow at him and nodded for him to go on.
“We’ve got a new client!” Lorne almost gave into the need to squeal, but took a deep breath to calm himself, “We’ve got a new client.” He said more calmly, looking at Angel.
“And?” Angel asked motioning for Lorne to continue.
“And,” Lorne said, “The client is Orlando Bloom!” This time he didn’t manage to hold the giddiness inside, and he clapped his hands, while jumping a little. Angel just stared at him, and when Lorne noticed he deflated a little.
“Oh honey, please don’t tell me you don’t know Orlando Bloom!” He said.
“Was I supposed to?” Angel asked looking a little bit embarrassed.
“Yes! If you just went out every once in a while, you’d know who Orlando Bloom is!” Lorne said.
“I go out!”
“Goin’ out to kill this week’s baddie doesn’t count Angel. You, my friend, need to have fun sometimes.” Lorne said exasperated.
“I have fun!” Angel said standing up from behind the desk, “Just last night I kicked Spike’s ass in the training room, and that was fun!”
“Ah yes, and such a cute ass it is, but Angel, I meant you need to get out and do something that isn’t violent or researchy. Basically, you need a life!” Lorne said as if explaining it to a small child. “Stop being Broody McBroody!”
Angel just gave him a look, and Lorne decided to just continue telling Angel about the client. He knew he would never get Angel to see reason anyway. It was amazing hoe stubborn Angel could be sometimes.
“Anyway, Orlando Bloom is the hottest new thing to hit the Hollywood limelight, and he’s been having some trouble with his new place. Apparently his agent recommended he contact us, to help him with said problem.”
“And what’s the problem?” Angel asked, finally looking a little bit interested.
“Well, by the descriptions that his agent gave me, it sounds like a ghost. You know, doors opening and closing, things disappearing then reappearing someplace else. Sounds pretty simple.” Lorne explained.
“So why does he need us? Why doesn’t he just find someone else?” Angel asked.
“I don’t know, but that’s not the point! The point is, this is Orlando Bloom!” Lorne said excitedly.
“Let me get this straight,” Angel said, “You want us to take this case, a simple haunting, because you have a crush on this guy?”
“Yes! Well…no, “Lorne said, “He’s a star! It’ll be good publicity, plus he can pay good money!”
Angel thought for a few seconds before letting out a deep breath and saying,
“Fine, we’ll take it. Call his agent up and set up a meeting with this Bloom guy.”
Lorne smiled hugely and almost went over to give Angel a hug, but he didn’t think the big lump would appreciate it so he settled for a pat on the back followed by a, “Thank you! You won’t regret it!” Then he turned around and walked out the door. Right before the door closed he heard a muttered,
“Right, I’m sure I won’t.”
