Chapter 1: Reunion
“Why is it,” queried Terry J, slurring his words slightly. “That whenever the Python’s decide to have a piss up, revert back to our twenties and generally wreck everything it has to be at my house?”
The rest of the Python’s chuckled at his truthful, yet ever so slightly drunken announcement. Indeed, many of the Python’s now legendary parties had been held at Jonsey’s, which was most probably because he was the biggest pushover and always gave into them. In fact John Cleese often said that Mrs Jones’ life consisted of cleaning up after the variety of themed piss ups that the Python’s decided to have, and to make sure that Terry had a strong cup of black coffee the morning after.
This party however, was not just a chance for Eric to sing very rude songs loudly and Michael to insist that he was home by 10pm, but for Terry’s daughter Sarah-Louise return from New Zealand after spending two years there filming the new Lord of the Rings film. The Python’s (apart from Jonsey obviously) hadn’t seen Sarah-Louise since she was at least 18, so it would be great to she was she had become. She was set to become an A-List celebrity, much to Jonsey’s disgust, and was already set to star in the new Matrix movie.
“Because old man, you have the shittest house, so therefore it doesn’t matter is we wreck anything!” Roared John, who was now on his forth scotch. “Plus, Helen would never let Michael have a party; she’d rather stay in with a good book!”
“I’ll have you know that my wife and I like a little privacy, if you know what I mean! Giggled Mike, toasting his glass with Eric.
Just at that moment, Alison came running to the back door looking rather flustered and excited. “Terry! Sarah’s home! Now would you lot please clean yourselves up and Eric that washing pole is not for pole dancing!” She added sternly, turning on her heal and making her way towards the front door.
Eric immediately desisted his exotic dancing, and straightened his rather loud looking green Hawaiian shirt. Several seconds past, in which no one spoke. This if you knew the Python’s well, was an extremely rare occurrence, like the sun engulfing the earth. Mike chuckled to himself, and set his glass down on the garden table. He admitted to himself that he felt rather nervous, as he didn’t know what to expect. He hadn’t seen her since she was 18, and even though she’d just finished filming one of the biggest films in cinematic history, he hadn’t even seen her picture in the papers.
Footsteps broke his thoughts, and he looked to the back door of Jonsey mansion and felt as if the wind had been knocked from his chest. There stood a beautiful woman of 28, with long, dark red hair which she had pulled back into a loose plat and stunningly bright green eyes which sparkled with happiness. She floated effortlessly down the garden steps and into the arms of her waiting father.
“Oh it’s so good to see you again Lou-Lou!!” Exclaimed Jonsey in delight, hugging his daughter a lot harder than he would have if he hadn’t consumed several whiskeys.
“Father, I may have missed your sorry behind, but that still doesn’t mean you can call me Lou-Lou!” She chuckled, though there was a hint of wariness in her voice.
After making sure her father could support himself, Sarah moved onto the rest of the Python’s many of whom seemed shocked at the sudden transformation of this timid and shy teenager into a fully grown woman. Though none more so than Mike. As he watched her hug each of the Python’s in turn, he felt himself grow impatient for her to reach him. As soon as he felt this emotion rise in his chest, he pushed it violently back down, though it didn’t dispel the fact that it had been there.
“Ah Mike, I haven’t seen you since you and my father collapsed on our sitting room floor after his birthday bash!” She said fondly, pulling Mike into a warm and friendly embrace.
Mike felt his breath leave him again, though this time it was accompanied by a rapid increase in his heart beat. His returned her embrace, though somewhat reluctantly, and felt himself entranced by the smell of her honey scented hair. After what seemed like an eternity to him, she let go and turned to her parents. It was then that he felt Eric lean into his ear.
“Blimey Mike, wipe up the drool!” He whispered cheekily, winking and disappearing to speak to the John.
Mike coughed and averted his eyes from Sarah-Louise; instead he attempted to engage the American one in conversation.
“I see you’ve popped your eyes back in man!” Terry sniggered, a sly smile playing about his lips.
“Was it that obvious?!” He moaned, and taking a rather large swig from the brandy he had retrieved from the garden table. “I just a little shocked, that’s all.”
Terry shook his head in mock disapproval. “Your best friend’s daughter Mike, how will you live with yourself?” And with that, he disappeared in the house after John and Eric, leaving Mike with Jonsey, Alison and Sarah.
To say that Mike was slightly unsettled by these sudden feelings would be an understatement. He had never in a million years expected Sarah-Louise to change so much, both personality and appearance wise. He watched with his mouth slightly open as the sunset light shimmered softly on her chestnut red hair, the way her green eyes seemed to sparkle like diamonds and the soft curves of her body which were enhanced by the figure hugging silk skirt which she wore He watched with his mouth slightly open as the sunset light shimmered softly on her chestnut red hair, the way her green eyes seemed to sparkle like diamonds and the soft curves of her body which were enhanced by the figure hugging silk skirt which she wore over her hourglass figure. He was awoken from his daydreaming by Jonsey, who seemed to have noticed Mike’s dream like state.
“Hey, are you alright?” He asked, patting his friend heartily on the back. “You’ve gone awfully pale.”
“N-No I’m fine, I just feel a little faint, I think I’d better stay in the fresh air for a bit.” He smiled weakly, and turned his gaze to the end of Terry’s garden, away from Sarah who was now casting him curious glances.
“Fine fine, well everyone is going in the house for dinner, come in when you’re ready.” He said, looking a little concerned.
“I think I’ll stay out here for a bit too Dad, that aeroplane food is ghastly.” Sarah’s voice exclaimed from behind him.
Mike heard Jonsey and his wife enter the house, and Sarah’s footsteps come ever closer. Feeling his heart beat faster and his breathing more rapid, he tried to say something, though his vocal chords didn’t seem to want to work. Glancing to his right, he saw that Sarah has drawn level with him and that she was looking at him (to his surprised) in a rather hurt way.
“Mike, correct me if I’m wrong, but you didn’t seem too pleased at my return.” She said quietly, making Mike turn his eyes to face her stunning ones.
“Oh no, I’m very happy to see you!” Mike said quickly, feeling rather annoyed with himself. “It’s just, I haven’t seen you as a teenager and it was a bit of a shock to see how much you’ve…grown.”
Sarah chuckled. “Well I couldn’t have stayed 18 forever could I?” She smiled and patted Mike softly on the shoulder, causing the familiar lurch in his stomach.
“It would have made things a hell of a lot easier for me!” Mike thought.
“Right well, if you’re feeling better, perhaps we should join the rest of the rabble for dinner!” She said, grabbing Michael by the arm and pulling him into the house.

It was almost midnight before the rest of the Python’s let Michael escape from his clutches and return home. He knew that Helen would be up wondering where he was, annoyed with him for not calling to say that he would be home late. Though at the moment, this was not the major thing on his mind. He hadn’t felt this way about anyone since the time he first met Helen, when he was 16. The way his heart beat faster the more he was around her, how he couldn’t take is eyes off her beautiful face. But he couldn’t feel like this, not only was he a married man of more than 40 years with 3 grown up children, but she was his best friend’s daughter and nearly 35 years younger than him! It was absurd, he remembered her when she was a tiny baby, this was wrong.
As he turned a dark corner, he realised that he would have to distance himself from the Jones household. Even though he would miss his friend terribly, he couldn’t risk strengthening the feelings he had developed for Sarah. Then perhaps time would allow him to look her in the eye without longing to embrace her. Sighing, Mike turned on the radio, perhaps the chatter of upper class twits talking about politics would help soothe his troubled mind.
He only lived 4 or 5 miles from the Jones residence, so it took him no time at all until he was pulled up in his driveway and walking towards the front door. Before he could put the key in the lock the door flung open to reveal Helen in her dressing gown, a scowl on her face.
“Have fun did you?” He asked venomously, standing aside so that Mike could enter the house.
“I’m so sorry about the time Helen, but you know what the guys are like when they’ve had a few.” He said tentatively, backing away from his wife and climbing up the stairs.
“Hmm,” she murmured, following her husband up the stairs. “So, how’s the eldest Jones then?” She asked, still looking a little unconvinced by Mike’s late return home.
“Oh – erm, s-she’s very well.” He said, changing into his pyjamas and collapsing into bed beside his wife. “Changed a great deal though.” He added, seeing her face flash into his mind.
“I shall have to pop by in the morning and see for myself.” Replied Helen, settling herself beside Mike. “I feel terrible for not being able to make it tonight.”
Mike said nothing. Countless times that night he tried to sleep, but his brain just wouldn’t rest. It was getting out of hand; Sarah was on his mind constantly throughout the night.
“This is bad,” he thought to himself. “She’s your best friend’s daughter for goodness sake! She’d never look twice at you!”
But then, he didn’t blame her for not looking. She was young, beautiful and intelligent. He was an old, crusty senile man who was slowly losing his mind to old age. Plus, he had Helen, and she loved him. That’s all that mattered, he loved Helen, what he felt for Sarah was just lust and that went with time.
It wasn’t until the early hours that Mike drifted into an uncomfortable sleep. Little did he know that the chain of events that would follow the day’s reunion would change his life dramatically.
