Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know Josh Lucas. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Summary: Julie, a young and not too successful film journalist with low self-esteem, meets Josh Lucas at a premiere party. Could he be the one who helps her gain self-confidence? My very first fic, please review!
Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I don't own Josh Lucas, nor do I know him personally. The Josh in this story is therefore only what I imagine him to be like. And although I could use it, no money is made from this.
Author's Note: I wasn't able to find a single adult fanfiction that had Josh Lucas in it, so I decided to write one myself. As stated before, this is my first fic. It's based on a very nice dream that I had. Some might call my OFC a Mary Sue, although she is very flawed. I'll admit that identify with her a lot. I just like writing stories I can see myself in, especially if Josh is in them. I'm not a native speaker, so if you catch any really horrible mistakes, please let me know via e-mail: JNSBuffy@aol.com
"Miss Knightley! Over here, please!" Julie cried weakly, but her voice was drowned out by the all the other journalists lined up by the red carpet. Julie knew that she should be happy. This was a great opportunity, being sent to the world premiere of the sequel to "Pirates of the Carribean" – she even had tickets to the premiere party at a hot club a few miles away from Disneyland, something so many people would almost kill for. But she wasn't happy, she felt that she was doing a terrible job and that her boss had been wrong to trust her with this big task at only 26 and after only one year of work experience. She was writing for one of those magazines that you get free at the theatre, in which movies are never criticized but only advertised. As a reporter for such magazines, you're at the bottom of the food chain, and Julie lacked the self-confidence to push to the front and ask the stars her questions. They all passed by and she failed to talk to any of them.
At least she got to view the film, but couldn't quite concentrate – she was once again contemplating her own inadequacy. And it was not only her job, it was everything else as well. She mostly loved her job, because she got to do what she loved: write about stars and movies. Her friends had always called her the "Hollywood Encylopedia". But her insecurity had made it hell for her today. Of course, it had also ruined most of her past relationships. She knew she had no self-esteem because of her appearance. She was the type of girl that you don't usually notice. Sure, she had long, blonde hair and blue eyes, she quite liked her face, and if done up properly she did get the occasional compliment. It was her body that she hated. She was about twenty pounds to heavy, and she thought of her butt as "what Jennifer Lopez' butt would look like if she never worked out".
Most of the time, Julie concealed her insecurity by dressing up and using lots of make-up, and most of the time, like today, she felt uncomfortable and overdressed. The other reporters all wore pant-suits and shirts buttoned to the top, but Julie had chosen a black neckholder dress with a high waist and a flared skirt, which hid her butt pretty well, at least she thought so. She wore her hair down and had opted for dark-rimmed eyes and red lips. On the outside, she looked sure of herself, but on the inside, she wanted to curl up in her room and hide from the world.
The movie ended, everybody clapped. Julie got up, knowing that in her article, she would have to write how awesome the movie was, although she had found some faults with it, and she would have to use quotes from other interviews with the actors. She fled the venue as fast as she could, but as she was walking away from the surreal candy-colored castle that stood high into the sky above the theme park, she thought, I'm not going to waste that ticket to the party. Sure, I could go to my hotel and raid the mini-bar – and pay about a hundred dollars for like an ounce of alcohol. And it says 'open bar' on the ticket... For this was one of her other ways of dealing: getting completely wasted.
When she arrived at the club, she noticed that many big names from the movie business were there, plus all the young and skinny girls that the world admired. Normally, Julie would have been excited about all the celebrities, but not only did she have nothing but the first cocktail on her mind, she also felt that in here, she didn't only feel useless and out of place, she really was. She felt the dissaproving and sometimes even amused looks from the rich and famous. Of course, she imagined this for the most part, but some of the beautiful, model-type It-girls really did give her looks that were almost pitiful. Julie kept her eyes down as she headed to the bar, already regretting that she hadn't opted for the mini-bar. "Give me the strongest cocktail that you have." she snapped at the bar tender. He, too, looked at her condescendingly, but started to pour different liqueurs into a shaker. When he placed the cocktail on the counter, she took it without a word and stormed off. Luckily, the spacious club had many dark corners with low, red velvet couches, and as it was still early, Julie found a spot at a table all by herself. She popped the straw into her mouth and stared down, watching as the almost undrinkably strong cocktail in the glass was diminished.
An hour and another strong cocktail later, she was still sitting in her corner, and the alcohol did not have the desired effect. Although she was of course feeling a bit light-headed, she still felt horrible. She hated herself and the fake, rich people around her. The pretty girls kept strolling by, the handsome men kept ignoring her. She knew that it was wrong, that it was completely unjustified and judgmental, but right now, she despised all the celebrities in the room. She hated them for being beautiful, for being rich, for not noticing her and her pain. She turned all the anger that she felt for herself towards them.
Her glass was now almost empty, and she had decided it was time to leave, when she heard a deep male voice, with an almost growling quality, drawl from above her: "Pretty lame party, ain't it?" Julie was at a point where she didn't care about politeness anymore, she didn't even look up as she barked, "Damn right it is, if I don't get away from all these fucking fake, moronic celebrities, I'm gonna kill myself." She took a last sip from her glass as she felt the sofa give way under the man's weight as he plopped down next to her. "Yep, I'm not to fond of 'em either. And don't kill yourself, they sure as hell ain't worth it, and I'd really hate to miss out on getting to know this beautiful, brooding girl." he said, and Julie noticed a grin in his voice. That did it for her. "Look, if you want to insu – " She had looked up at the obnoxious stranger in mid-sentence, and her voice caught in her throat. She was looking into two very intense, insanely bright blue eyes, set in one of the most gorgeous faces she had ever seen, and that face was unsettingly close to hers. It took her only a moment to recognize it: she was sitting next to Josh Lucas.
As she realized that in fact she had insulted him, she raised a hand to her mouth and tried to apologize, "Oh God, I...I'm sorry, I didn't mean..I mean I didn't see…". You can't even do this right, she thought to herself, but she also noticed that it was his body so close to hers which further kept her from forming a coherent sentence. "Ah, forget about it, I know what you mean. Most of the people in this room are so dull, but they pretend to be so very interesting. Look at that girl, for example – " Julie's heart sank. He was pointing at a gorgeous Paris Hilton look-alike. "I talked to her earlier this evening", he continued, " and that girl could not talk about anything else but what designers everybody was wearing. See? Didn't really have anything meaningful to say, let alone the ability to hold up a conversation above a third-grade level." He paused, and Julia couldn’t help but smile. Her heart skipped a beat as he inched closer to her. His voice was even lower as he almost whispered: "But now I feel like I've found the only girl in here who's both beautiful and interesting." Julie was suddenly very aware of her less than perfect body again and tensed up. "Don't tell me I'm beautiful, I know I'm not, I weigh about as much as all the girls in here taken together, and they and everyone else in here know it. I really wonder what you get out of it, is it some cruel joke you and your celebrity buddies like to pull off?" she said bitterly, already regretting the harshness of her words. She looked down at her hands, tears already forming at the corners of her eyes.
His reaction completely caught her off-guard. She felt one of his large, warm hands lift her chin. The fingers of his other hand went into the hair at the back of her head, brushing her neck and making her shiver. Within two seconds, his lips were almost touching hers, and after a moment's hesitation during which he looked into her eyes, determined, he pressed his lips against hers, his tongue slipping in easily as Julie was suddenly completely powerless. Never had she been kissed with such passion, such fire, and the fire went through her entire body, and it responded involuntarily. Julie felt the heat between her legs and would have felt ashamed had it not felt so wonderful. Josh broke the kiss, still holding her face in his hands as he looked into her now hazy eyes and said: "This. This is what I was hoping to get out of it." They both smiled briefly, until Josh reclaimed Julie's lips. That second kiss seemed to go on forever. At times it was soft and tender, there lips barely touching, the heat almost tangible as they paused to catch their breath. Then it became passionate again, demanding, each seeming to want to devour the other. Soon, her hands were roaming over his chest, wanting to slip under the crisp white shirt, and his hands were all over her. His fingers grazed her shoulders, her neck, her earlobes, her back and occasionally brushed the underside of her breasts.
But as Julie felt his hand wander under the hem of her dress, her brain made itself heard once again. What the fuck do you think you're doing? You're in the middle of a club full of people, famous people that is, and you're making out with a star. Where do you think this'll lead? Love? Marriage? Hugs and puppies? Get a grip, he's using you for some cruel joke, and in a second, he'll feel the fat, lumpy, white trunks that are your thighs, then he'll be gone, and don't think he won't make fun of you. A few kisses can't deceive you. This has got to be a joke. Why would he, of all people, want you? He's famous, charming and fucking gorgeous. He can have girls ten times prettier than you. Wake up, princess, time to get back to reality.
Julie broke the kiss and shoved Josh away. "I can't do this. I…this is too much… can't do this to myself…", she mumbled as she got up and felt around the couch for her purse. She felt dizzy, from the alcohol and her arousement. Josh stared at her, wide-eyed, and didn't really realize what was happening until after she had run off without another word. He sank back into the sofa, running his hand through his hair, trying to make sense of this wonderfully crazy girl. The kiss had been a spontaneous thing, he had been at a loss for words after her little outburst, and all he had wanted to do since he had first seen her was to kiss her, and so he did. He had been surprised by her response, but relished it, savouring the kiss and trying hard not to take her right then and there. Of course he had noticed that she was not as skinny as the women he normally went for, but she just had something about her that made her perfect to him. But now he wasn't sure if kissing her had been the right way of telling her that…
After squeezing through the by now packed club, passing by someone who might have been Orlando Bloom and not caring, Julie was out on the street. Of course, she didn't have a limo waiting for her like the stars did, so she walked a few yards away from the club, hoping to get a cab. While she was waiting, the events of the past 20 minutes ran through her mind over and over again. How had she deserved this? Had her failure to do her job not been enough of a blow to her self-esteem? Why would someone be so cruel? But of course, her thoughts were laced with doubt. Had hurting her really been what Josh had intended? Oh God, she had actually kissed Josh Lucas, the Josh Lucas, an actor whose career she had avidly followed, a man whose good looks and vibrant personality had always made her heart beat faster. She had only seen him in movies and interviews, and now she had kissed him…The kiss had felt so good, so right, and so honest. He hadn't been a star in that moment, just a man, and he had kissed her. Julie licked her still tingling lips, remembering his taste, his smell, his hands on her body, her immediate response to him…Was there maybe the slightest chance that he wanted her? She looked at herself in a shop window behind her. Who am I kidding? No one wants this, let alone someone like him. He must have used me for a cruel joke. She turned her back on her reflection, closed her eyes and let a tear run down her face. Suddenly, she felt a thumb brush the tear away. Startled, she took a step back and opened her eyes. Before her stood Josh.
"At least tell me your name", he said quietly. "Julie" she answered, her voice breaking. "Listen, Julie, I'm really sorry if I hurt you in any way. Please believe me, I don't usually go around kissing girls, I know it was really disrespectful. It's just that – I don't know, there's something about you that pulled me right in. Apparently, you have some pretty heavy confidence issues, but believe me on this: I think you're one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen – and not because you're perfect, but because you're not. I was being honest before, you know? And when I look into your eyes I see so much there, and then I can't help wanting to touch you. I don't know what else I have to do to make you believe me, and that's all I ask. I'm honestly sorry I was being so forward. I just hope you believe me when I say that you're beautiful." The words were coming out very quickly, his eyes seemed to turn an even more intense shade of blue, and he repeatedly ran his hand through his hair in exasparation. Julie was absolutely flattened by his little speech, and at a loss for words. "Anyway," he said, now a little embarrassed, "I hope you find your confidence and a man who deserves to make you happy. I won't trouble you anymore." With that, he kissed her on the forehead and made a move to walk away. In that moment, Julie did something that she usually only dreamed of, but she knew she would regret it if she didn't do it. She grabbed Josh's hand, pulled his body tight against hers and kissed him in a way which let him know that she didn't want him to leave her alone. Julie broke the kiss and looked at her feet, suddenly ashamed. As if to save her, a cab pulled up at that very moment. "I think I'd better…I…do you wanna…forget it." she stammered, as her sudden confidence had dissipated again, and opened the cab door to get in. He placed a hand on her shoulder and said with a grin: "Yeah, I'd love to." Julie smiled to herself as they both got in the car.
They didn't talk much on the ride to Julie's hotel. Julie just said, "I don't normally do stuff like this. I don't want you to think – " ,but Josh interrupted her by placing a finger on her lips. "I know. Me neither.", he whispered and took her hand in his. They spent the rest of the drive and the walk up to Julie's hotel room in silence. As she fumbled with the key, she felt him running his fingers down her bare back, making it hard for her to concentrate on opening the door. When it finally clicked open, they stepped inside quickly and Josh closed the door behind them. Without a moment's hesitation, Julie was harshly pushed against the wall and Josh's mouth found hers. It was a kiss of pure desire, their tongues desperately fighting, his body pressing as hard against hers as possible, their breathing labored. She buried her hands in his hair, feeling his now evident arousal against her thigh. Suddenly, Josh broke away. Out of breath, he whispered in his very low voice, "Look, we don't have to do this –" This time it was Julie who stopped him by placing a finger over his lips. "Do you really think I'd turn back now?", she asked. He kissed her again and then let her lead him to the bed. There was an awkward moment as they both struggled with taking off their shoes, but they both laughed it off. As they sat down on the edge of the bed, they took a moment to look into each others eyes before losing themselves in yet another searing kiss. Julie boldly started to work the buttons on his shirt, and, with his help, it soon landed on the floor. Josh moved his hand behind her head to untie the knot that held up her dress, but Julia held onto the material to stop her breasts from being revealed. Josh lifted her chin and said, "Hey…it's okay, just trust me, alright?" Julia finally gave in and let him remove her dress. At this point, a small part of her still expected him to turn away in disgust, but she noticed that he looked at her body in pure desire and admiration. Within a few moments, her underwear as well as the rest of his clothes were removed and they finally lay on the bed skin on skin.
At last, Julie was able to lose herself in the sensations as Josh's hands moved over her body, first finding her right breast and twirling her nipple with his fingers before replacing them with his mouth. As his tongue lashed mercilessly at her nipple, his hand wandered further down until it finally found her heated center. He slid his long fingers over her folds and elicited a sharp intake of breath from Julie as he brushed against her nub. She moaned in dismay as his mouth dissappeared from her nipple, exposing the moistened flesh to the cool air, but she was quickly silenced as she felt his tongue on her clit. She bunched up the sheets in her hands, his mouth taking her to new heights. The sensations became almost to intense, and she wanted to touch him, so she sat up, pulled him back up and kissed him, tasting herself on his lips. She let her hand lightly graze his toned stomach as she moved downwards, until she finally held his manhood. He moaned into the kiss and Julie smiled inwardly. Never had she been able to cause such reactions by touching a man, but Josh was audibly and tangibly enjoying it. She began to move her hand up and down, her pace increasing as his breathing quickened. He suddenly stopped her, whispering under his breath, "Stop…not like this, okay?" She understood. She kissed him quickly and asked, "Do you have a condom?" His eyes went wide with realization. "Fuck, no, I don't. As I said, this isn't like me either…what do we do now?" he groaned. "Okay, I was hoping I wouldn't have to admit this…" Julie said, getting up and picking her purse off the floor. She took out her wallet and pulled a little square packet from one of the compartments. "I'm such a geek, I carry one in my wallet." She looked at Josh to see a big grin on his face. "Damn right you are – now come here!" he laughed. She, too had to giggle, and by the time she reached the bed, they were both roaring with laughter. They rolled around on the bed laughing for a few minutes, until Josh ended up on top of her. Out of breath, both were suddenly serious again, and after a few more demanding kisses, Josh grabbed the packet, tore it open and rolled the condom over his shaft. Slowly, he began to ease into her, inch by inch, until finally, he was buried to the hilt. Julie gasped at the sensation of being this close to him, of his flesh filling hers. He paused for a moment to look into Julie's eyes, and they both knew that they had crossed some invisible line, that there was something between them that went beyond sexual desire. As he started to move, all thoughts were erased from their minds. On each slow, languid stroke, he seemed to go deeper, and he ground against her clit in a way that took her closer to the edge. His pace quickened, and she came with a loud gasp, holding on to his broad shoulders, her muscles clenching and unclenching around him. Seeing her in complete ecstasy and hearing her moan his name made him reach his climax shortly after her, and they both clung to each other desperately as they rode out the last waves of their orgasms.
With a regretful sigh, Josh pulled out of her having to get rid of the condom. He cleaned himself up and crawled back on the bed, pulling the covers over both of them. Julie had never felt this good in her life, and she wished the night could last forever, but the long day, the alcohol, and that which had just happened, took their toll. Josh wrapped his strong arms around her, and she felt a warm but unyielding tiredness take over her. She lay her head on his chest and heard his slowing heartbeat. A tear involuntarily ran down her face, the intensity of the moment almost too much for her. "Josh? Stay with me tonight, okay?" she yawned. In response, he kissed her on the forehead, and sleep claimed her. Josh stayed awake for a little while longer, just watching her and feeling the steady rise and fall of her chest, and he fell asleep knowing that he had never known completeness quite like this.
---------------
Julie was wakened by the harsh light of day coming through the curtains. She stretched and then smiled, the events of the last night slowly coming back to her. She reached over on the other side of the bed and felt…nothing. In fact, the other half of the bed looked made. Julie sat up, her head suddenly throbbing in pain. She had a really bad hang-over. As she looked around the room, her heart sank. There was no sign of Josh, or of his ever having been here. It was all a dream! I knew it was too good to be true. Stuff like that never happens in real life. Hollywood Stars don't sleep with regular girls. But by God it was a great dream! Julie thought with a sort of bitter-sweet smile appearing on her face. It had all been so vivid – she even thought she smelled his scent, but came to the realizaton that she had simply had too much drink, and her mind and senses were still not working properly. How had she gotten back to the hotel?
She stumbled into the bathroom. As she saw her reflection in the mirror, she was glad it had all been a dream and Josh hadn't woken up to this: Her eyes bore dark black circles of eye-shadow und crumbled mascara, her hair was a mess and starting to get greasy, and the right side of her face was a pretty relief matching the creases on the pillow. "Oh, fuck…" she mumbled, splashing her face with cold water. She jumped into the shower and luckily, it somewhat sobered her up. All the while, she thought about her dream. She remembered all the details, and, blushing, she thought, Boy, do have a nice imagination.
She brushed her hair absent-mindedly but stopped in mid-stroke when she glanced at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It was10.45. Her plane back home was leaving in just over an hour. Panicking, Julie jumped into some clothes and shoved all of her stuff into her case. She left the room, ran down the stairs, flinging the keys at the receptionist, and bolted out onto the curb. Luckily for her, there were a couple of cabs parked outside the hotel waiting for customers. She approached the nearest one, jumped into the back and said, as politey as she could, "Airport, please, and could you make it fast? My plane home leaves in…oh, fuck, fifty minutes." "Sure, ma'am, I'll get you there in twenty." said the driver gruffly.
Throughout the ride, which surprisingly really only took twenty minutes, Julie stared out the window. Yesterday's failures were coming back to her as the memory of the dream started to dissipate and the real world was catching up with her. It really would have been too good to be true…
"Ma'am? Ma'am?" The driver called her out of her reverie. "That'll be 27 dollars." Julie got out her wallet and looked for the bills. She frowned when she saw a white slip of paper portruding from one of the compartments. It was the very compartment she kept her "emergency condom" in. She pulled out the piece of paper and unfolded it. Her heart stopped as she read:
Hey, you geek :) Hope you keep this in your wallet instead from now on. Sorry I left just like that, had to catch an early flight. Didn't want to wake you – you looked so peaceful, so perfect. Please call me if you ever get to New York. I'll wait. Josh
On the back was a cellphone number. Julie smiled and a tear of joy rolled down her face. "Ma'am, your plane…" the cabbie reminded her. "Oh yes, right, there you go, keep the change!" she cried happily, handing the puzzled driver a fifty dollar bill. "But Ma'am-" he started, but Julie had already jumped out of the car and made her way into the airport. She ran to the check-in, and just as the man behind the counter handed her her boarding pass, a female voice from the airport's ceiling droned "This is the last call for the US Airlines flight 637 to JFK, New York, last call for JFK. All passengers please proceed immediately to gate 23." Julie ran to the gate and handed over her boarding pass. Finally, she sat down in her seat and was able to take a breath. It was all real. It had actually happened. And it was still happening.
"This is your captain speaking. We are now ready for take-off and should reach JFK airport on time. I'll come back to you with more information when we have reached our flying altitude."
Julie smiled to herself and looked out the window. Never had it felt this good to be going home.
