Title: The Start of Something New
Author: EriksLuv (monamourange)
Pairing: Ryan Reynolds/OW
Disclaimer: I don’t own Ryan, sadly, but I’m just playing with him for a little while. Man, do I wish that I could really “play” with him! ^_^ I also don’t own any of the movies, songs, other celebrities, or anything else that seems familiar. I do, however, own Heather (since that’s me). This is my first fanfic so any ideas, comments/suggestions or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Chapter 1: The Beginning of the End
The black Mitsubishi Eclipse made its way towards its destination. The driver was a 6’ 3” actor from Canada with short brown hair, beautiful chocolate-brown eyes, and dark bronzed skin.
No matter how calm and happy he looked on the outside, however, the emotional pain and torment that he was experiencing, at that moment, could be seen in his posture and in his eyes.
‘Why did she do this to me? How could she lead me on like that? I know I’m not the greatest looking guy in the world, but seriously...’ the driver thought.
You see, the driver was not just any ordinary man, he was the main actor from many movies such as Van Wilder, Just Friends, School of Life, Amittyville Horror and Blade Trinity.
Yep! You guessed it! The driver was none other than the delicious Ryan Reynolds.
The characters that Ryan always portrayed in movies were cute, funny, and at times sarcastic, and people always expected him to act exactly like that. People expected him to always be happy, energetic, and constantly cracking jokes, but he didn’t always act or feel like that.
What most people didn’t understand was that he had a life too. He was a real person, with real feelings, and real ever-fluctuating emotions.
Most people, the female population in particular, only ever saw him from the outside. All they ever cared about was how great he looked. No one cared enough to even try and see the true Ryan that was on the inside, not the sexy, Canadian actor, but the little hometown boy from Canada. That was, nobody had ever tried, until her.
She was, Alanis Morissette, the singer/songwriter who was from Canada as well. They had been engaged for over a year. Ryan had thought that they would get to know each other, eventually get married, and then, at some time, have children. That was something that most people didn’t know about him, he wanted a family. That included a loving wife and children.
Ryan had grown up with four brothers, so he was used to the chaos, love, and togetherness that came from having a big family.
After becoming an actor, and then moving to California, Ryan began missing his family. During those first few months of living alone, he had felt free, but not long after, those feelings had swiftly diminished. He missed his brothers running into his room and screaming while they jumped on his bed. He missed his father yelling and cursing at the television during one of his many unending sports games. He even missed his mother telling him to do the dishes or take out the trash.
He still missed all of these things, even years later. He knew that he really should go home and visit them, but with all that had happened, he just needed some peace and quiet. He needed to be able to relax and unwind for a little while.

A little over a week earlier....
Ryan had come home, expecting to call Alanis and ask her to go out to dinner with him, but instead of picking up the phone, he had picked up a small piece of paper that lay on his kitchen table. It was a letter that said:
Ryan,
I know that you asked me to marry you, I said yes, and we have been engaged for over a year, but I need to tell you something. I’ve been trying to decide how to tell you this, and when you left to finish the movie shoot, I got up the bravery to finally tell you. I don’t know how to say this in any nice way, so I’m just going to say it, I don’t love you, I never have, and I don’t believe that I ever will. Even though I sound heartless and cruel, believe me, I am sorry. What I haven’t told you the entire time that we have been together, is that I’ve actually been dating, and am engaged to, someone else. For a while I thought that you were going to seduce me and then leave, so I didn’t break up with the other guy, the guy I love. But when you didn’t break up with me, and then even asked me to marry you, I knew that you were serious about us. I didn’t, however, know how to tell you that I didn’t want to see you anymore. What with the scrutiny of the paparazzi, and everything else, I just didn’t know when, or how, to tell you. I’m sorry that I hurt you, I never meant for it to go this far. I would give you your ring back, but I lost it a couple of months ago. This entire time I have been wearing the ring from Michael, the other guy, hoping and praying that you wouldn’t notice the difference. (I can send you money to pay for it if you would like.) I know I keep saying it, and I know you won’t believe me, but I truly am very sorry. I hope that you have a great life.
Sincerely,
Ali
After reading it, Ryan had crumpled it up, threw it across the room, and then tried to call her, but she wouldn’t answer.
A week went by with him trying to relax, since he was finished filming the movie, and trying not to think about her. He, however, did not succeed. He decided, because of all of the publicity that this breakup was receiving, that he needed to get away from the public-eye for a while.
He had been watching the movie Friday Night Lights one night, and had decided that Texas sounded like a good place. He wanted some place where no one would ever think of seeing him.
He looked at a map of Texas on Google, and decided on a little town called Bastrop, that was close to center of the huge state of Texas. The town was not even thirty miles from Austin, the capital. He had never heard of Bastrop before, he hadn’t even really ever been to Texas for any length of time.

Present...
After looking at the map, and deciding on Bastrop, Ryan had gotten his agent to look for homes that were being sold in Bastrop. He didn’t want anything big or fancy. He just wanted a little place where he could get away from the demands of being so well-known.
He still actually couldn’t believe that so many people knew his name. He had never actually believed that he would make it this far in his life or be so successful as an actor.
‘I just don’t understand...’ he thought, ‘If I can be so successful as an actor, why couldn’t I have been so successful in getting and keeping her?’
At 4:30 that afternoon he finally succeeded in making it to Austin, the capital of Texas. ‘Now, there should only be about another hour or so to go,’ or so he thought.
Ryan hadn’t been expecting to be caught in the rush-hour traffic that Austin was so famous for. The miles of cars inched forward as slowly as his younger brother’s facial hair grew!
And let me tell you what folks... that was slow! His brother somehow had gotten blonde hair, Ryan didn’t know how! His parents both had brown hair (even though now his father’s locks were gray and had been as gray as an eighty-year old man’s since he was twenty-four years old), and because of that the blonde hair, even when his brother was able to grow out a little peach-fuzz, it could hardly be seen with anything less than a microscope.
‘WOW!’ Ryan thought, ‘Man do my thoughts take the most random turns... oh well...’
It took more like two and a half hours for him to finally get onto Highway 71, the main highway that would take him to his destination.
He still couldn’t believe the Texas weather. Christmas was two weeks away, and yet it was in the 70s and very mild.
He drove for another twenty-five minutes down 71, took a right onto highway 20, another right onto Shiloh Rd. about a mile later, and then finally another right into the driveway of his new getaway home.
The house was a dark green with white shudders that clung to the two windows that faced the street. The lawn needed to be mowed, but he wasn’t scared of a little domestic housework. The house wasn’t big, but it was just what Ryan had been hoping for. ‘Man, I hope it looks this good on the inside!’
Ryan walked up the few steps that led to the covered front porch where there was a small porch-swing and a small wooden table. He walked to the door, put in the key, turned the handle, and opened the door to his new future.
