Now that touring was over, everyone was looking forward to going back to their homes for some much needed rest and relaxation. However, there was one person who wasn’t exactly jumping for joy to be going back home.
Ryan was driving home from the airport after a short farewell to the guys. He wasn’t looking forward to any reunions. When off tour, he lived by himself. Though, before they went on tour he had been steadily dating a girl who, coincidentally, was also his neighbor. He never technically broke up with her. He just left without saying a word. Figuring it would be better that way. The young lyricist was in no hurry to face what he had left behind.
He pulled up into his driveway and turned off the ignition. At first he just sat there for a few moments. He glanced over at the neighboring driveway. Her car was there. She was home. He heaved a sigh then stepped out of his car while grabbing his bag. He shut his car door as quietly as possible without realizing it, then strode up to his front door. He fumbled with his key slightly, after all, he hadn’t used it in about six months, then slipped inside.
Ryan looked around his front room. Everything was just as he had left it. A large, emerald green couch sat under the main window facing the television. One of the contrasting orange pillows rested on the floor in front of the TV where Brendon had been lying watching cartoons the day before the tour had started.
He tossed his bag down next to the couch and proceeded to pick up the pillow, replacing it in its rightful spot on the sofa. In doing so, he found a beer bottle lying under the coffee table. No doubt left there by a careless Brendon. Ryan grabbed the bottle and stepped into the kitchen to throw it in the garbage. As he reentered the living room, he heard a shuffling of feet outside his front door.
Ryan moved over to look through the peep hole in his door. It was her. She was holding a plate of what looked to be cookies. She seemed to be mumbling under her breath about something. She kept facing the door then quickly turning away only to do the same thing again repeatedly. Ryan smiled at her hesitation. As she turned away from the door a final time and was about to step off the front porch, Ryan opened the door swiftly and called to her.
“Denim.”
She spun around so quickly, some of the cookies flew off the plate and fell to the ground. She got down on her knees and began to clean the small mess. And in the process, averting her gaze from Ryan’s. Ryan rushed quickly to her side to help her retrieve the snacks.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” Ryan said as he lent down to pick up the cookies in the grass.
“Oh no, it’s fine, I mean, I probably shouldn’t have even come over.”
“Oh no, it’s alright.”
“But I’m sure you need some space, I mean, you just got back and-”
“Really it’s okay.”
“No, I mean, you probably want to unpack and be alone-”
She was rambling. She tended to do that when she got nervous, Ryan always found it to be cute. Not to mention she had said, “I mean” in every sentence. He then cut into her ramble.
“Denim.” He said her name a bit forcefully to get her attention.
“Yeah.” She said finally meeting Ryan’s eyes.
“Do you want to come in?” He asked.
She just smiled and replied, “That would be nice.”
Ryan grabbed the plate of cookies from her and stood. He then held out his hand for her to get up herself. When she stood, she was rather close to his body, Ryan smiled. However, at that moment, Denim made a note to quickly step back a bit and look down at her feet. Ryan’s smile faded.
“Come on.” He said, breaking the uncomfortable silence, and the walked together into the house.

A/N: Alright this is my first Panic! fic so tell me how I’m doing. Hopefully the second chapter won’t take too long, I’m rather fond of this story. Until then.
