Hello! Okay well I've been working on this for a while, I just haven't actually posted it. Welcome to We All Wear Masks, this is a fic that's a bit odd but I'm very proud of it. And I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Alright, first chapter.

The mall was so crowded. It wasn’t supposed to be called a mall, they preferred the Westfield Shopping Center. But it was a mall, with six stories of Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdales. But that wasn’t why Gerard was there. Mikey and Alicia had gotten engaged a few weeks ago and they wanted to get their rings engraved. ‘The way they act you’d think they were already married.’ Though Gerard. Mikey had asked Gerard along, because he looked so lonely. But Gerard wasn’t lonely, he was quite sure he was losing his mind.
The tour had just started, and the paranoia that began on the European leg had only increased. It had dissipated a bit when they’d gone in to record Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge but it was back, and it was killing him. He’d tried drowning his fears in alcohol and drugs and company (mostly Bert McCracken) but he was still afraid. He felt people were watching him, following him. Maybe even stalking him. The mall didn’t help. Gerard looked about, noticing a group of black clad teenagers clustered together. They were whispering and he was sure one of them pointed at him. ‘I have to get out of here!’ He thought, then pushed his way through the crowd. He was close to the exit, when suddenly he ran into someone. The force of the impact knocked them both down.
Gerard glanced across at the other person and stilled. The boy looked about 17 but was impeccably dressed. The black suit complimented his svelte figure, and the white tie drew his attention. He got to his feet, tucking a strand of raven black hair behind his ear. He held out his hand and Gerard took it, using the leverage to stand. When he did, he realized that he was at least three inches taller than the boy, making him seem all the more petite.
“Uh… You alright?” Gerard asked nervously. The boy’s pale, heart shaped face showed confusion, then he smiled and it was beautiful. His blue eyes seemed to sparkle as he said, “Yeah, I’m cool.” His voice was a bit high, not quite a falsetto but close. “Where’s the fire? Uh… Uh oh.” He said, looking behind Gerard. The singer spun around and saw the same teenagers from earlier, and they were coming right to him. “Shit.” The boy said softly, then added, “Come with me or they’re gonna fuckin’ mob you.”
Without waiting for a reply, the boy took Gerard’s hand and lead him down a hallway, then through a door that read ‘Authorized Personnel Only’. It went into a winding, twisting corridor that seemed impossible to navigate but the boy had no trouble. “Where are you taking me?” Gerard asked, a hint of panic in his voice. “Nordstrom’s. Maggie and her cronies can’t get up there so you’ll be safe.” He said, letting go of Gerard’s hand. “There’s a service elevator around here somewhere… Aha!” The boy ducked around a corner and Gerard followed.
The elevator was huge and rather than having a sliding door it had one that looked like the front of a wooden crate. The boy opened it and Gerard followed him in. “Wh-what’s going on?” He asked weakly. “Maggie probably got word you were in town and decided to look for you. She’s got this major thing for you. It’s kinda fuckin’ sick actually, her room is like a Gerard Way shrine.” He said casually as he closed the door and started the elevator.
“Ah, so you, ah, know who I am.” “Bit unfair isn’t it? I haven’t even introduced myself. I’m Carmine Scramasax.” He said. “Like the sword?” Gerard asked, raising an eyebrow. Carmine’s face lit up and he said excitedly, “Yeah! Most people don’t get the reference!” “I kinda have a thing for weapons. It’s a Viking sword isn’t it?” “And Saxon, but they were pretty much one in the same.” Said Carmine.
The elevator screeched to a halt, and the two got out. Carmine lead Gerard down the hall, then opened a door. They were on the third level of Nordstrom’s in the women’s section. “Okay, so they can’t find you up here. You got like friends or a body guard or somebody with you?” Carmine asked, his face concerned. “Uh, yeah, my brother and his girl are here somewhere.” Gerard said. “You might wanna call them or something.” Gerard nodded and went to do so. Carmine began to walk away but Gerard called out, “Wait!”
Carmine turned around and raised an eyebrow. Gerard was suddenly struck by how regal he looked, almost unapproachable. “Uh, you wanna get some coffee or something? As thanks.” Carmine smiled, then nodded. Gerard called Mikey and told him and Alicia where to find him. When he hung up he turned to Carmine and asked, “So, you go to school with those kids?” Carmine snorted and said, “Fuck no, I’m 23. Maggie is my cousin’s friend. She’s not very bright or stable. I keep telling her mother to take her to therapy or something but Chantal insists there’s nothing wrong with her. Probably because I’m the one who said it.” The last sounded very bitter.
“You don’t look a day over 17.” Gerard said, trying to change from what sounded like a very painful subject. “I know, it’s a real bitch when I go out to the bars. But you’ve got a total baby face so you probably have the same problem.” Gerard laughed, then said, “Sometimes, yeah.” Carmine tucked his hair behind his ear and Gerard noticed it was in an A-line bob, so it wasn’t as long as he’d originally thought. “So you live here in San Francisco?” “No, I’m just up for the weekend, I’m going back to Hollyweird on Monday.” This made Gerard laugh again. Then the singer heard his name and he turned around.
Mikey and Alicia, hand in hand, walked up. “You ready to go?” “Yeah, oh Mikey, Ally, this is Carmine, he saved me from some rabid teenagers.” Mikey and Alicia shook his hand, Alicia raising an eyebrow. She seemed to instantly dislike Carmine but the expression passed before Gerard could catch it. “So we’re taking him to get coffee with us.” Said Gerard. “Cool, well let’s go then.” Mikey lead the way with Alicia at his side. Gerard trailed a bit, walking with Carmine. He liked the boy, and felt a flutter in his stomach as he watched Carmine out of the corner of his eye. ‘Oh dear God… I’m crushing on him!’ Gerard thought. But when Carmine smiled at him, Gerard didn’t really mind the crush. Or anything at all.
