Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know the members of My Chemical Romance. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Summary: Im not so sure how to explain this story. The plot is still a 'Work In Progress'. This idea just popped into my head, so I wrote it down. Either way its about Frank and him meeting this boy, Gabriel, who he falls in love with. But has to break away the perfect shell that Gabe protects himself with to really love him. Yeah this summary sucks but still. Read it and tell me if you like it then I'll continue.
That Smile
Chapter 1
Frank stared down at his drink. It was root beer. 'Aint I a sad sight,' he thought and leaned back in the booth he had been sitting in and then stared out the window.
‘It was a dumb move, I should have just stayed quiet’ he thought, wondering what kind of demon had possessed him to do what he did a few hours ago.
He came out to the band that he was gay. And well, they didn’t really take it the way he had been hoping for. At first none of them believed it, thinking that he was just kidding with them, like he had many times before. But when they saw it wasn’t a joke, then well they went nuts.
Gerard started calling him names like slut, faggot, and whore. Even though Frank has only ever had two serious relationships before, when Gerard has had five. And the rest of them just stared at him like he was an alien or something. Frank wasn’t sure what to do or how to take it all so he ran.
Ran til he got to the café` that he was currently sitting at. It was late so there weren’t many people out but still Frank had pulled up his hood and covered his face slightly when he came in and took a seat at a deserted booth in the back. And then ordered himself a beer.
‘It was a dumb move, I should have just stayed quiet…’ he thought again sullenly, grabbing his drink and finally taking a sip of it. The warm beer going down his throat and leaving behind a slight bitter taste.
“You okay darlin’?” a slightly aged waitress came by and asked. A warm look in her eyes told Frank that she saw many depressed people come around in the bar and was probably used to cheering them up.
Frank gave a small smile and nodded, not really wanting to talk about it all since he just wanted to forget about it.
“You sure?” she persisted, but when Frank nodded again she patted him on the shoulder and then left.
He looked out the window. It was dark out, and Frank was pretty sure it was past midnight. He sighed, wondering when it would be a good time to head back to the bus. They were in Seattle for a concert and were staying in a hotel. The concert was tomorrow night, it was their first concert for the tour and they would be working their way across the country for the next few monthes.
Frank sighed.
“You, my cute sir, are a liar…” a male voice broke into his musings, and made him jump and look up.
A boy was standing next to the booth, how long he had been sitting there Frank wasn’t so sure, but he was staring right at him with a small smile on his face and his eyes narrowed right on his face.
He had jet black hair that was gelled so it was spiky in the back but his bangs were moved over to cover his left eye in a straight little fashion, framing his face on one side. The eye that wasn’t covered showed Frank that he had hazel eyes but when he moved his bangs over slightly and Frank could see his other eye, it was light blue.
He had a freckled pattern over his nose and his skin was a shade close to his own. He was wearing a plain black t-shirt and jeans that were ripped up and frayed in places. His shoes were black converse and very worn out. Over all that he was wearing an apron that was tied around his waist.
After looking the guy over Frank bit his lip again, his brow furrowing as his mind registered what he had said, and then started to think of something to say. Looking away once he remembered that he had been practically gawking at the kid. And though his mind came up with many things to say the only thing that came from his mouth was, “Huh?”
The boy chuckled slightly and then slid into the booth across from Frank.
“I said that you’re a liar, and that your cute…both are true, but you can respond to either one, or both…” he shrugged and crossed his arms on the table, leaning against them and staring at Frank.
Frank blushed slightly at the boy commenting on his looks and then tilted his head curiously, “How am I a liar?” he asked.
“You lied to Morgan…” the boy responded almost immediately, “Wanna talk about it?”
At first Frank wasn’t sure who Morgan was but then it clicked and he glanced back at the register and there was the older waitress cashing in someone check. Frank ‘ooooh’ed and then leaned back in his seat and stared at the counter.
“No…” he said quietly and then looked up at the other again, “I don’t even know your name, why would I talk to you about my problems?”
The boy shrugged but then reached out his hand, “I’m Gabriel, or you could call me Gabe for short…there now you know me…wanna talk?”
After Frank had shook his hand the boy, or…er, Gabe had crossed his arms again.
“Why do you care?” Frank asked, surprised the boy was so pushy.
“Because, you look like a wittle lost puppy…and you remind me of someone…” he trailed off and then smiled softly, “And you look like it would help…” He shrugged.
“You don’t even know me…”
“Au contrair, you are Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance…I knew it a few minutes after you came in here…” he smiled again.
Frank stared at him, a small pout on his face. ‘So much for no one knowing who I was…’ he thought, though he was now again grateful not too many people were up this late, he didn’t want any paperazzi to come and beat him while he was down.
Frank was once again broken from his musings when the boy across from him started laughing.
“I was joking, I didn’t know who you were until I came over here…” he flashed a small smile that surprised Frank.
He liked that smile. He shook his head mentally. No, that was bad, the boy was practically a minor, or that’s what he looked like. Frank couldn’t be crushing over a minor, actually he couldn’t be crushing over anyone that was the same gender, it would suck even worse. The negative reaction he got from his friends was just because he was gay, he didn’t even want to think of how they would react if he told them he liked someone.
“How old are you?” Frank asked, surprising Gabe, who quickly recovered.
“I’m 19...why?” Gabe arched an eyebrow at the face Frank made.
“You look 16...how could you be 19?” Frank exclaimed.
Gabriel pouted. “My youthful looks just adds on to my cuteness…anyway, no changing the subject!!”
“Ugh, fine…I got into an argument with my band mates, I announced something and got a very negative reaction….”
“Awww….what did you announce?” Gabe took a sip of Franks drink.
Frank gave him a look and took his drink back, messing with the plastic straw that was sticking out and staring out the window.
“I came out…that Im gay…” he mumbled quietly, “…and they all freaked…”
“Oh my gosh, that sucks…” Gabe reached out and took Franks hand in a comforting gesture. Frank smiled sadly up at him, but then the other pulled his hand away blushing.
“Sorry…shouldn’t have done that….” He looked away from Frank and bit his look, for the first time out of their meeting looking nervous.
Frank arched an eyebrow and shrugged. “Don’t be sorry, this talk has surprisingly helped…thanks….”
“Anytime cutie….” Gabe smirked and flashed him a small wink, his nervousness from before disappearing.
“You coming to the concert tomorrow?” Frank tilted his head.
“As much as I want to, I don’t think I can, got some stuff to do…” He smiled apologetically.
“Oh…” Frank was about to say more when he felt his cellphone start to vibrate in his pocket.
He bit his lip and took it out, looking at the caller ID. Mikey. Frank bit his lip, wondering if he should answer it or not. He glanced up at Gabe who read the ID and then flashed him a thumbs up and slid back out of the booth. Frank watched him walk into the kitchen and then looked back down at his cellphone and then with a short battle in his mind whether to answer it or not he answered it.
“Hello?” he asked cautiously.
‘Frankie? Oh my god, we thought something bad happened to you…’ Mikey’s relieved voice floated through the earpiece and Frank relaxed slightly as Mikey continued. ‘Hey, were sorry okay? It was a shock…something we hadn’t expected, we didn’t mean to scare you…’
“Who are you speaking for exactly?” Frank arched an eyebrow, remembering Gerard’s insults.
‘Everyone, including Gee…he-’ Mikey was cut off, and Gerard’s voice floated through, ‘Hey Frankie, Im sorry…it wasn’t right for me to call you all that, since Im probably more of a slut then you are…’
Frank giggled slightly, “Really…you guys don’t hate me?”
‘We don’t hate you Frankie, we’re all really sorry, and we were really worried about you…” Mikey’s voice came back on. ‘Hey where are you? We can come pick you up…’
“Im at a diner, um called ‘Nina’s Café’” Franked explained the rest of the directions to the place and then hung up, walking over to the counter where Gabe was back at the register.
“Drinks on the house hun, glad you made up with your friends…” Gabriel flashed the smile that Frank liked, “…and if you ever wanna talk again, here’s my number…” He handed him a small slip of paper.
Frank smiled and slipped the paper into his pocket and nodded.
