“Bam, what are we doing here?” Ville shivered. He hadn’t grabbed a jacket, and his t-shirt, while very fashionable, didn’t do much to keep him warm.
“It’s cold out.” He whined.
“It won’t be too long.” Bam promised as he parked the car in the back of Dunkin’ Donuts. Ville raised an eyebrow at his boyfriend. Bam just smiled mysteriously and got out of the car. The Finn groaned and climbed out after him.
Bam snuck around using greatly exaggerated gestures. Ville sighed. Most likely he was pretending to be a ninja or something. That boy liked to play make believe more than small children did. The only difference was he had money to make his games more grandiose, with better props.
Although it might do him some good to play with some cardboard now and then, the singer mused. He quickly banished the thought. Knowing the skater, the whole house would become a cardboard warehouse. Best to just keep his mouth shut.
Bam crept towards the dumpster, darting and dashing around, trying to keep to the shadows. Ville kept his hands in his pockets and strolled casually after his boyfriend.
“Okay, here it is!” Bam pointed to the Dumpster. Ville wrinkled his nose.
“Here what is? The trash? Darling, we have lots of that at home. Why did you drive me all the way out in the cold to come here?”
“Because we don’t have the stuff IN the trash at home.” Bam’s eyes gleamed as he looked at the large, rusted container as though it were a treasure chest stuffed to the brim with gold and gems, instead of smelly black plastic bags.
“Why do we want what’s in the trash!” the tall one cried. “It’s garbage! It all smells the same.”
“No, it doesn’t.” his lover disagreed. He pulled the heavy black lid back and jumped easily into the deep bin. Now Ville had a strong stomach, but there were some things that grossed even him out.
Bam rummaged around for a few seconds. Triumphantly, he ripped into one of the black bags and held up his prize. Doughnuts. They had come all the way across town and snuck around in the dark for… doughnuts.
Stale, unsold, thrown away doughnuts.
“You’re kidding me.”
“No! They’re good!” To prove his point, the American reached into the bag and pulled out a plain one. He bit into it and chewed with relish. Ville gagged.
“Why are you doing that? You have plenty of money. You can go in and get nice new ones. Look, I’ll even go in and get them for you.”
“No!” Bam pouted. “This is better. They’re perfectly fine, they just didn’t get sold today, and they figure picky people like you won’t buy them. So they throw them out.” He swallowed his mouthful.
“Want one?” he brandished the bag at his boyfriend, who backed away, waving his hands in an emphatic ‘no’ gesture.
“I’d rather have… non-garbage doughnuts, if it’s all the same to you.”
“Suit yourself.” Bam shrugged. He crammed the doughnut into his mouth and fished out another one. And then he hauled the bag to the car, tossing it happily in the trunk.
Ville sat a bit far from his boyfriend on the front seat on the way home. He had a sinking feeling that Bam needed the food for something more than eating.

His worst fears were confirmed the next day.
The poor singer had taken some retail therapy at a proper shop to soothe his frazzled nerves. He came home loaded down with bags full of new clothes.
The house was not in the state he had left it in. Instead, there was a castle of doughnuts at one end of it, and something resembling a rocket ship at the other. Bam and his crew were racing around, chucking doughnuts at one another.
In the carpet, on the wall, on the ceiling, smeared everywhere. The whole place smelled like Dunkin’ Donuts on steroids. Ville stared, open mouthed. In a few seconds his lover spotted him, and put his hands in the ‘time out’ gesture.
“Hey babe!”
“Wh-what did you do?”
“Isn’t it great?” Bam beamed as he surveyed the house. Ville took in his boyfriend, covered in crumbs, whipped cream and jelly filling. He did the only thing he could think of.
He bent forward and kissed him.
