Disclaimer: I own nothing. I do not know Dir en grey. This is just a work of fiction to entertain. I make no money off of it. |
Note: This story is based on a dream I'd had. Dir en grey are brothers in this, and Shinya has a twin, a sister! I hope you like it.
It had been six long years since I'd seen my hometown. My family had moved when I was only fifteen. My father, who worked for some financial group, had been given a promotion, and a new position in the United States. I hadn't wanted to go. I had wanted to stay in Japan where my friends were, and where HE was.
HE. Toshiya. The guy I'd loved since I was six years old. I'd befriended this girl, Saika, and her twin brother, Shinya. He'd tagged along at her insistence, and I'd accepted him because he was her twin. But their older brothers, the two who attended our school three years ahead of us, picked on him mercilessly, and I would see Saika get upset and shout at them, and they would laugh. Shinya would sometimes be reduced to tears, and the first time I saw his big brown eyes water I turned and shouted at Daisuke. He'd laughed and dismissed me until my small fist shot out, knocking him back onto his butt. I stood over him, glowering, and that day had won the respect and gratitude of Shinya, and the unfortunate luck of being Daisuke's favorite target along with Shinya.
But when I'd jumped in between Shinya and Toshiya, and taken one look at the nine year old, I'd been unable to hit him. I never once hit him. I stared at him, and my young heart had pounded, and I'd flushed darkly, but I could not hit him. His dark eyes had met mine, he'd shrugged, and then turned and left. He'd always held it over Daisuke that I never hit him, but could so easily give Daisuke a black eye or split lip or bloody nose.
Saika had been the first to realize that I was hopelessly in love with Toshiya, and she often conspired with me to try to get her brother's attention, but it never worked. Toshiya was so handsome that girls were always flocking around him. Truthfully all her brothers were handsome, and never lacked for female attention. What chance did a skinny six year old have?
Over the years, as Saika and Shinya and I became best of friends and inseparable, I began to despair of ever having Toshiya show me the smallest form of affection. I also had my hands full fending off Daisuke. When he turned thirteen he adopted the nickname of Die, and preferred it to Daisuke. His teasing often led me to violence, and his older brothers would torment him for showing up with the wounds of a face-off against me.
Then my father got the promotion. We had a month to be settled in the United States. I begged. I pleaded. I threatened. I raged. I had no choice. I cried the whole drive to the airport, and the whole flight to the USA. I refused to unpack for a whole year. I refused to eat with my family at meals. I refused to talk to my father for two months, and then I tried to make a deal with him. If I could return to Japan I'd do whatever he asked of me. He replied that he asked of me to stay with him, and be a good daughter.
Now it was six years later. I stared at the gate with the name plaque, and then at the door. Inhaling deeply I went to the door, and knocked. The woman who answered the door looked a little older, but otherwise had not changed. I smiled, and her hands flew to her mouth as her eyes widened and watered. Finally she reached out and drew me into a hug.
It was like coming home.
She made tea, and we sat and talked until she saw the time. I stood to help her make dinner despite her protests. While I set the table, a little while later, I heard the front door open. Two male voices could be heard, in conversation, and when I turned I saw the two oldest boys, Kaoru and Kyo. I smiled and bowed.
They came to a halt, and Kyo's eyes narrowed. "Who are you?"
"Suji desu," I replied, straightening.
"Suji..." Kyo tried to recall.
"She had that big crush on Toshiya," Kaoru reminded.
"Ah, hai," he nodded. "Do you still love Toshiya, Suji-chan?"
I blushed. "I outgrew that crush."
"Go wash, or no supper!" their mother warned them.
The two headed for the bathroom down the hall. I continued to set the table, and heard two louder voices. The males were laughing and teasing. I turned, and my heart did a trip-stop-race beat. Toshiya and Die came to a halt, and Die bowed. "Suji chan!" He grinned.
Toshiya gave a quick bow, mumbled, and rushed to the bathroom to wash. I bowed. "Konbanwa, Die-san." I hid my disappointment at Toshiya's behavior, and straightened to finish setting the table.
Die hurried off, and I had finished at the table and was helping to carry the platters of food to the table when there were two more male voices. I turned, and smiled. Shinya and an older man had entered. Shinya blinked, bowed with a smile, and spoke. "Welcome home, Suji-chan."
The older man beamed, and neared to hug me tight so I hurried to put the food down. Shinya was the only one of the boys permitted to clean up at the kitchen sink, with his father. This was due to the fact that his brothers, particularly Die and Toshiya, would lie in wait in the bathroom to tease and torment him. He would often get into arguments with them, or become so angry or upset he would refuse to eat, and their mother would lose her temper. She did not like her youngest son to leave or slam into his bedroom. He also had his own small room whereas the others shared two per room.
We all sat, saying 'grace' before serving ourselves. "So, what brings you back to Japan?" asked Kaoru.
"My parents have given me the old place. I'm here to see if I want to sell it." I reached for my drink.
"What?" Die shook his head. "Don't sell it. That's a nice piece of property."
Kaoru hummed in consideration. "I've never seen the inside of that house. I think you spent all your time here... for some reason," and his gaze swung to Toshiya beside him.
Mama and Papa sat at each end. I sat between Die and Kyo. On the other side, across from me were Kaoru, Toshiya, and Shinya. I sat where Saika usually sat. I blushed, and cast Toshiya a glance through my lowered lashes. He grunted and nodded. "Saika, Shinya and Suji-chan were inseparable back then. Where one was you knew the other two were as well."
Kyo arched a brow. "Die, didn't Suji-chan give you a fat lip once?"
"And a bloody nose, and a black eye, and..." Toshiya grinned. “You never learned. You'd go out of your way to tease her or torment Shinya in front of her, and she'd clobber you."
Die gave a long-suffering sigh. "Hai, she abused me."
I choked, and shot him a glare. "You deserved it! You knew I hated bugs, and you kept putting them on me! You buried me in the snow or put it down my top or threw snowballs at me, threw me in the pond, sprayed me with a hose, and you once even tied me up and kept me in a barn for hours!"
I hoped no one else noticed the flush that warmed my cheeks as Die's eyes glowed at that memory. It brought back memories. When Saika had experienced her first kiss she'd told us about it, and so Shinya and I had learned to kiss with each other. Tender kisses, soft kisses, and warm lingering kisses. And though I learned to kiss with Shinya, it had been Die who had taught me of a different kind of kiss. Die would only release me when I agreed to a kiss. It had been the first time a boy had ever stuck his tongue in my mouth. I had been fourteen, and it had not been an unpleasant experience.
I bent my head, and focused on my meal, simply listening to the others talk, or filling them in on the past six years. After dinner I leapt at the chance to help clean up. Afterwards I went out back, admiring the way the lanterns lit up the two Sakura trees I had helped the family plant when I was eight. The evening was warm, but not hot, and the sky clear with billions of stars dotting it.
"You remember."
I glanced over my shoulder to see Die. No one was allowed to smoke inside the house so he had come out and lit a cigarette. "Remember what?"
A snort escaped him, and he neared me. "That day in the barn. I saw you look over at me and blush after you mentioned it. You remember." He took a long drag off his cigarette, his eyes narrowed slightly as he watched me.
I shrugged. "So do you. What's the point? You wouldn't untie me until you got a kiss." I looked away. "If I also remember correctly you took more than one."
"Only because you ruined the first one."
"You stuck your tongue in my mouth! It was gross!"
He tossed the cigarette down and crushed it beneath a sneakered foot. "Gross!" He moved around until we were face to face. "You didn't think so when we kissed the second time. You barely knew how to kiss, but by the time I untied you it was a different story. You were breathing hard, your nipples were hard, and you were clinging to me."
God! He was still so damn conceited! "Didn't you realize I had been thinking of Toshiya?"
"Bullshit! Nice try though. But I know my brother never kissed you."
"I know that too," I grumbled low. God that hurt. Once I'd known how to kiss I'd often stared at Toshiya's lips, daydreaming about kissing them... "Wait, which brother?"
He blinked. "Huh? Toshiya, who else!"
"Well no, he never did." Time to torment Die a little. With a small smile I turned and headed back inside.
Die blinked, and then scowled. "What the hell does that mean? Suji-chan! Don't you dare go..." But I was gone. His mind rolled over and over my comment. "She's fucking bluffing." And he lit up another cigarette.
...............................
"It wasn't Kyo or Kaoru... was it?"
I glanced up into the mirror, brushing away at my teeth, and met Die's gaze in the reflective surface. He was fixing his own toothbrush. I did not reply. I continued to brush my teeth, straightening to look up at him, and smile around the pink toothbrush I was using.
He looked good. He always had. This morning he wore denims only, faded and well worn. Obviously ones he often used for work. He was broad in the chest and shoulders, and his black and red hair fell to nearly his shoulders and to his eyes. He saw me watching him, and he quirked one amused eyebrow. I flushed, bent to spit, and began to rinse my mouth and my toothbrush.
"Was it?" he repeated, turning so his broad back blocked the doorway. But just then he leaned over the sink to spit, and when he looked down again I was gone. He rinsed quickly, cursing. As he exited the bathroom he saw Kaoru leave the bedroom he shared with Kyo. "Did you ever kiss Suji?"
Without missing a beat Kaoru replied, "hai."
Die's jaw almost dropped. "When the hell did you kiss her?"
Shrugging Kaoru went to move by him. "Dunno."
"What do you mean you don't know?" He turned to keep looking at his brother.
Curiously Kyo came out of his room, one brow arched, and his eyes a little rounder in amused curiosity.
"How could you not know? Hell, even I remember when I kissed her!"
"Told you he'd kissed her. That day he kidnapped her and kept her tied in the barn. Remember? She was mad as hell, and her lips had that just been kissed look to them. Meanwhile idiot here was covering up a black eye and grinning," Kyo spoke up.
Die glowered, and putting a hand to his shorter brother's forehead shoved him back into the room he'd just exited. He faced Kaoru. " Was it you or not?"
"Was it me what?"
"Goddammit!" Die shouted. "Who the fuck kissed Suji?"
"I did."
Having come back out to rip into Die, Kyo turned, along with Die and Kaoru, and all three stared at Shinya who held Miyu in his arms and was bending over to set the tiny Teacup Chihuahua on the floor. "You?" they asked as one.
"We kissed all the time after we were thirteen." Shinya straightened and eyed them calmly.
Kaoru grinned. "You did? All the time?"
"I thought she loved Toshiya?" Kyo blinked, confused.
"Hai, but we had to learn somehow. So we learned with each other," Shinya shrugged.
"Ha! Well, when I kissed her she didn't know a thing about using her tongue. I showed her how," Die smugly shot.
Shinya's lips quirked, and he nodded. "Hai, and she right away taught me... after she gargled."
Kyo and Kaoru erupted into delighted laughter, and Die stormed past them and out to his room to finish dressing. Kaoru eyed Shinya with interest. "Did you really kiss her?"
"Of course!" Shinya blushed, and shrugged. "She taught me how to kiss. Or, rather, we taught each other."
