Disclaimer: I do not know D,Miyavi,Kagrra, Mana or any other Jrocker that gets a cameo in this story. This is a work of fiction - and I do not gain anything from it! |
There's no way to write a good synopsis for this story. Basically if you enjoyed "Buffy", "Angel", "Vampire Hunter D", "X-files", "Blood+", "Vampire Hunter D" and "Hellsing" - with a dash of "Trinity Blood" and other bizarre philosophies... you'll probably enjoy this. Maybe. Tell me what you think! Constructive criticism is appreciated!
Enjoy!
Chapter 1: Shades of Darkness
Darkness all around - pitch black which seemed to press down on him. Menace in the air. He couldn't breathe. Already his horse had been left behind, foaming with panic at the mouth. Here he was on his feet, running, stumbling over the bracken. Silence hung in the late night - nothing seemed to stir the air - nothing except the harsh sound of his own voice in his ear. Panting. Gasping.
Desperation....
He shuddered to a halt, his muscles and back burning beyond endurance. Wiping sweat from his face, he tried to slow his racing heart down.
Just let me get back to the road... to the road... That's all I ask.
Pale moonlight filtered down through bare branches - standing up starkly into the sky. As if evil omens of some dark future - pointing to the silent heavens. The silent heavens who mocked the struggles of humankind below the stormy, perpetually cloudy sky. The curse of Armageddon.
And here he was, a survivor of everything. One of those who had been born to the top - to the First Class. To the privileges.
He stared at smudges of blood on the backs and palms of his hands - the branches of the trees had cut into his skin.
This... This-This can't be happening to me... Not here... not now.......
"Not now..." he whispered, gulping back some more cold night air.
But nothing answered him - and there was no salvation from the dark heavens.
There never was... never has been.... never will be...
Staggering on, the young man pushed his way out of the bracken - and out onto the road which suddenly appeared before him. He squinted in the dark - the road... Standing in the middle, he turned frantically, expecting any moment for the monster to burst out of the dark forest after him. A moment passed by. Tense seconds which turned to minutes... He turned around and around, shaking from head to foot with tension...
Nothing to the south... nothing to the north.... Just plain grey road stretching into the night......
A branch snapped.
"Wh-wh-who's there? I'm - I'm... safe now... On the road... and..." Lord Mya-vi shouted, trying to force down the quaver which was rising in his voice.
Those who are on the road should be safe. I should be safe.
Never mind the fact that you were on the road before and were still attacked... A treacherous thought assailed him.
The young lord's back stiffened as the darkness colesced into something even darker than the sky beyond the clouds. He had heard of it before - a dark nothingness, it was said, beyond the earth. Once upon a time, people had lived there - and now... he watched the dark space grow at the edge of the forest - gain limps and a face -
It was horrific to see evil have such a face...
He was sure he'd remember those eyes till the day he died - brilliant red with madness. Personification of the hell which his history books talked about... Hell in flesh - in broad shoulders, a sneering face, lips curled to reveal the vampire's fangs... One arm had gone missing in the battle between the aristocrat's guard and coachmen. But even now, before his eyes, tiny bits of black - squeaking, fluttering - gathering up and settling into an arm, complete with matching coat sleeve.
Hell... The pits of fire - filled with those tiny legions of -
Lord Mya-vi shuddered at the thought - and stiffened with renewed terror as the specter stepped forward drawing closer the road. He was so close... And the petrified aristocrat wondered how the ancient fiend could stand it.
Hasn't this road been blessed? This is the Blessed Way, dammit. Sprinkled with holy water and incantations for protection... these stones.... are holy ground! And yet -
He couldn't move - a dark boot rose and stepped past the white paint -
He's... Move - move -
He couldn't move - he had anything to vomit, he would have spewed it by now...
Move - Move Mya-vi... Move - You don't want to die here like this...
Other black surrounded his vision. Spots. Large black spots. The vampire's hooked nose, pale lips blurred together -
Move... Mooovvvee---
But I am so tired, he thought. I can't....
The moon was so bright. So pretty. My last moon...
Lord Mya-vi, Earl of Kuroka, swayed dangerously on his feet. The vampire neared slowly - taking his time, stalking his prey, enjoying the delicious scent of terror.
So beautiful. The fiend smiled. A beautiful face - but his blood... is calling.... even more....
A pale hand rose, stretched out - black fingernails scraped gently down the side of the frozen aristocrat's face. Lord Mya-vi's eyes rolled upward - he crumpled forward onto his knees - and then, as darkness slowly edged in, fell back -
And as he fell, his eyes distantly registered suprise on his pursuer's face. The dark spots increased - there were...
Arrows?
But they are dead, he thought vaguely. My men died...
The body twitched as more bolts entered it. Dissolving into so many bats, the body disappeared slowly, revealing behind it the face of a dark angel.
Angel....
His eyes closed.
-----
Lord Mya-vi's eyes flew open. For a minute he laid there, fear gripping him. His legs wouldn't move. Neither would his arms. It would explain his panicked state... Then he realized - the softness behind his head wasn't stone pavement. It was his pillow - and the warmth above him... wasn't anything but his eiderdown quilts. He wiggled his toes experimentally.
No vampire jumped out of the darker corners of his room. He was home. Safe. This was his bedroom, after all... He sat up stiffly and looked around. Already his clothes for the day were laid out, and beside the rack, stood the dark wardrobe with a large mirror set into the thick oak doors. The rest of the room was sumptuous. It had a lot of memories -
"Fitting for the Lord of Kuroka the Fifth", Tsu-ne had laughed, whirling around in his lace.
"Aren't you proud, brother?" He had asked, plumping up the pillows. "To get Father's room now? And so young?"
"Sure," Mya-vi had shrugged. "What I wanted was for Mother and Father to die - and for me to sleep in the bed of a dead man..."
Tsu-ne froze.
"Sorry," sighed Mya-vi. "Sorry."
Crossing over he hugged his ten-year-old brother from behind.
"I know you didn't know them alot," he whispered. "It still hurts, right. Things like this..."
"I want to be happy again," Tsu-ne said softly.
"You will..."
"When?"
"I.... don't know..."
A pause.
"I just don't know.... but... what I do know is that now.... WE CAN JUMP ON THE BED!"
"YAYYY!!!" Tsu-ne pulled out the small step stool and pulled himself up onto the high bed. "Pillow fight!"
"I'm gonna kick your ass!"
I'm gonna kick your ass....
It made Lord Mya-vi smile at the memory. The day both of them had made a pact to find the happiness they needed.
Seven years later... we're still searching... and Tsu-ne... seems content, at least for now... He's seventeen - but so lonely... It's been a while since we've been to such a place as Central Ground-T. I was sent there for my coming out when I was fifteen... Fifteen... It seems so long ago, really...
He sighed.
But still... some things... He bit his lip remembering the dark nightmare. Always seem like yesterday... Like yesterday that home-coming trip I had made from Ground-T... It was a business trip, hmmm... and since then...
He sighed again.
I've never left. It's best this way - to stay here in a place much more safe. Relative safety. Not just for me... but for Tsu-ne. Roads are no longer safe... The Blessing Way has been corrupted somehow... or something... why else... would THAT.... have happened to me?
Still...
Mya-vi rose and crossed through the room to his large windows overlooking the courtyard. Pushing the heavy brocade curtains back, he stared down at the bustling mass inside his castle keep. Already he noticed the distinctive hats of his programmers and the few technicians who lived in town just below the castle. His shoulders straightened with the renewed realization.
This is my domain. I must keep it... These are my people... I must fight for them...
But Tsu-ne...
He sighed.
Tsu-ne needs to find some sort of place in this world. Surely he can't go around wearing his frocks forever. Ground-T would be the place for him to find an appropriate mate. And even I would like the relaxation of good company other than Second and Third Class....
"Brother?"
"Tsu-ne."
"Oh! There you are!" The seventeen-year-old ran over and snagged his brother's arm, laughing - his large dark eyes reminding Mya-vi of his mother. "Moping in the dark?"
"Not really," laughed Mya-vi. "More like... moping in the dark..." He winked.
"Silly," Tsu-ne giggled. "C'mon! Let's go riding around the estate or something. Hiiro-ki said that some of the fencing needs repairs. I thought we should tag along."
Mya-vi stared at his younger brother.
The young man in question had a feathered hat on, goggles, his dark hair curled and pulled up somehow under both... And neck down... dressed in some frilly black and white creation... And the boots...
"What?"
"Tsu-ne... you can't go out like that... it's... dangerous..."
"Dangerous?" the young man cocked his head.
"You could... trip and fall in those things...." Mya-vi pointed at the platform shoes. "What ARE those?"
Tsu-ne pouted.
"They were from Ground-T. I so wanted them..." He laughed. "Hiiro-ki's dad got them when he went down..."
Mya-vi pinched his nose.
"Well... okay... whatever," he sighed. "I know we're not supposed to really traipse about with Second and Thirds - but what the hell... we need some waking up, right?"
"YAYYY!!!" Tsu-ne pranced off.
His older brother laughed, grabbed his coat, his hand arms and left the room, whistling a jaunty bar air. Mind now made up, Mya-vi felt like a ton of bricks had risen off his shoulder.
Ground-T... Here I come. Be prepared... for Tsu-ne...
