The universe is dynamic, it’s explosive, and violent. Bright white stars grow to blue then a fiery red and explode and drown the neighboring stars and planets in a crushing black hole or they peter out quietly and fade into the cold darkness around them. New stars burst into existence violently to replace their ailing predecessors. Meteors slam into moons and planets when there’s no atmosphere to incinerate them. Comets circle the universe with blazing trails of ice that stretch miles behind them.
Yet amongst all this violence we find stillness and peace and order. Every star has its turn to shine down on our planet, every seventy years Haley’s comet passes us by. So in this order humans have found a sort of peace in space and on earth. Sometime though, finding the order and peace within ourselves is a much more difficult task.
*~*~*~*~*
He didn’t mind dressing up, but he wasn’t fond of these stuffy parties. No one was willing to talk candidly because of the circling paparazzi and he didn’t really know anyone there. He tried to look social, the last thing he wanted to deal with was some guy with a blog calling him friendless and emo or whatever. It was pretty challenging though, he would’ve loved to skip the little gala but a friend had asked him to come and hang out with him. Said friend had mysteriously fallen ill a few hours ago and wandered off with a Jessica Simpson wannabe. So now he was stuck.
A waiter came by and offered him a glass of champagne, he’d only had one so far so he gladly accepted the bubbling cream colored beverage. He looked at the ceiling, for the thousandth time, and looked over the crown molding with a bored expression. The room was nice, but you wouldn’t expect a host to skimp on the costs when he was hosting a party for some of the bigger names in Hollywood. He had seen Brad Pitt about an hour ago, he hadn’t seen Angelina so he was assuming she had been forewarned about his presence and had opted to graciously decline the invitation.
The high domed ceiling of the theatre made the low chatter echo so the room was much louder than it should’ve been. The walls were a deep crimson and the supporting posts and ribbing were painted a gaudy gold with way too many carvings and designs. The floor was peach colored marble and shone brightly under the overhead lights. Waiters drifted around to the different circles of people offering hors d'oeuvres and champagne. There was a light buffet set up toward the back of the room, but because of the rabid photographers most had avoided that particular issue of “The Enquirer.”
He was beginning to contemplate if anyone would notice if he snuck out and never came back when he saw a figure slinking along the far right wall heading for the door. He chuckled under his breath, glad he wasn’t the only one desperate to get out. He watched the woman quietly slip out the door and then he made his way to the door too intent on catching up to the woman.
As easily as the woman had he made it out the door without the guests or the paparazzi noticing. The entrance to the theatre was almost as grand and slightly gaudy as the inside. Four massive limestone pillars flanked the entrance and a set of seven rippling stairs led down to a reconstruction of an English king’s garden.
At the center of the garden and in the middle of the walk way was a large fountain filled with tiny cherubs with an endless supply of water in their small pitchers. Sitting on the edge of the fountain was the woman he had seen inside. He made his way down the stairs to the woman.
“’Scuse me.” He said softly. The woman started and looked away from the water with an embarrassed smile, “Hi.”
“Mind if I join you?” He asked. The woman nodded, “I’m Hayden.” Her smile was still a little embarrassed but friendly.
“Jared.” He said with an answering smile. “I saw you sneak out, avoiding anyone in particular?”
Hayden grimace, “I can’t stand these parties. I mean, I like getting all pretty and talking to everyone, but after a few hours I get bored.” She explained. Jared nodded in understanding, “I can relate to that.” He looked up at the clear sky. The stars above sparkled like spilled glitter across the blackness of space.
“You’re in that band right?” Hayden asked suddenly. Jared shook himself out of his thoughts and nodded, “Yeah, 30 Seconds to Mars.” He smiled, “And you’re the cheerleader in Heroes.”
Hayden laughed, “Yep.” She looked up at the stars with him, “What’s it like being in a band and acting?” she asked after a brief moment of silence. Jared answered almost automatically, “I love it, music has always been in my family and I love acting. It can get a little hectic but the schedules always work themselves out.” He looked over at Hayden, in the bright light under the moon her blue eyes shone like two mini galaxies. The water reflected tiny rippling points of light and shadowed and brightened the blues.
He didn’t realize he was staring until Hayden looked away. Now it was his turn to be embarrassed, “Sorry, but your eyes were…” he chuckled a little, “that sounds so clichéd.” He looked over at her, afraid he had either frightened or offended her. Instead she was again blushing, “Thanks.” She murmured. Jared tried to explain why he was staring, “Really, the way the water was reflecting off your eyes was beautiful.” He said. Hayden looked at him and the galaxies reappeared in her eyes; deep, unknown, and beautiful.
“It’s what I imagine a galaxies look like from a distance.” He said, mostly to himself, her eyes were mesmerizing. She turned her head a little to the side and darkness fell across on galaxy while the other brightened to an almost ice blue. Hayden laughed quietly, “I’m not quite as poetic, but your eyes are beautiful too.” She reached out and gently took his hand, “What do you say we tell everyone good-bye and change into some comfy clothes and grab some coffee or something?” she asked quietly. Jared’s fingers curled around hers and he nodded, “I’d love to.”
She smiled and the galaxies were lit from the inside.
A/N: M’kay, I know pretty much nothing about Jared and Hayden; which is why the fic is short. So, I'm going back to my A7x fiction, lol
