Chapter One ~ Disbelief
~*~*~*~
October 30th, 2007
I was in Ireland, visiting a friend of mine, Nadine. We were at a soccer game. Nadine's hometown team was playing. Soccer is a huge thing in Ireland, I had already been there for a week and a half and this was the fourth game she had taken me to. The day had turned from sunny and semi-warm to cloudy with a cold northerly wind blowing. I looked across the stadium and a very pale man caught my eye. Upon closer examination, I had come to the conclusion that it was none other than Michael Jackson watching this
'Is that really him?’ I had to make sure, my curiosity had gotten the best of me. The bathrooms were located near Michael’s section.
“Nadine, I gotta use the bathroom, I’ll be back okay?”
“Okay Crys, don’t fall in now.”
“Ha ha, funny Nadine.” I said sarcastically as I began to make my way out of the row.
The eerie clouds had been threatening rain since they moved in shortly before the game started and as it began to sprinkle I quickly realized my mistake. I was wearing a black leather jacket, rain and leather don‘t mix. I started to quicken my steps and as I got to the other side of the stadium, I saw that Michael was gone. I stopped in my steps and looked around his section to find him nowhere in sight so I shrugged and continued my way to the restrooms. The rain was steadily pouring harder.
As I neared the restrooms, I felt someone grab my arm and pull me into a roofed area just as it began to downpour. There in front of me, stood Michael. He looked outside and let out a sigh of relief as he turned his attention to me.
"You're brave for wearing a leather jacket in this weather, it could get ruined." Michael said, his fingers reaching to brush off the water droplets that were already on it.
"I didn't think it would rain, honestly, Mr. Jackson. When Nadine and I left it was sunny." I said our eyes meeting. He gave a small smile of amusement.
"You’re American, that’s great. Call me Michael, and your name is…?" Michael said offering his hand out to me. I grasped it and shook it.
"My name is Crystal. How did you know I was headed to the bathroom?" I asked my eyes meeting his..
“I saw you heading in that direction. I noticed you were wearing a leather jacket, and it was sprinkling. My mom raised me up to be a gentlemen. Besides that jacket looks pretty..." Michael's eyes searching the air for the word or contemplating something. "...expensive." He whispered, he looked around very suspiciously. "Come on, let me walk you to the bathrooms." He led me further inside the stadium, where the bathrooms were.
"Here you go, would you like to sit with me? I sure wouldn't mind your company...that is if you would like to?"
"I would love to, I'll be right back." I said as I walked into the women's bathroom. I walked over to a mirror and jumped up and down in excitement. I stood there for a couple of minutes before going into a stall and flushing the toilet, I then went back to the sink and ran cold water on my face and walked out. Michael was waiting for me.
"Did you want me to take your jacket? It‘s still raining like cats and dogs out there." He said his gorgeous eyes meeting mine again. I nodded, and took off my jacket and handed it to him. He took it and folded it up nicely, he then lead me out to where he was sitting. I sat down and Michael sat down beside me, he noticed my engagement ring.
"Wow, that’s a nice ring, who's the lucky man?"
"Jason Holden, we met in college a year ago."
"Wow, so he treats you good and everything?”
“I guess, I mean no relationship is perfect you know.” I said. Michael nodded.
“So how old are you? My guess would be in your mid-twenties...but I’ve never been good at guessing ages."
"I'm 20, I’ll be 21 in May.
"Wow. You carry yourself well for a 20 year old, I would have never guess that. So where are you from?"
"I'm from Montana,"
“Oh, big sky country, I hear its very pretty there…whereabouts?”
“Havre, I moved there with my fiancé because that’s where he’s from.”
“I see. Do they have mountains there?”
“They have some but they’re nothing like the Rockies.” I said chuckling a little. Michael chuckled a little too.
"So What are you doing in Ireland then, did you're fiancé come with you?"
"No, he couldn't get the time off of work to come with. I'm here visiting my friend Nadine. Next week I'm going to Sweden to visit another friend." I said looking at Michael, who was paying attention to the soccer game.
"That's cool, so how do you know these friends?"
"I used to write vampire stories on this site called Quizilla, until eventually I got harassed and threatened to stop writing them because they were illegal or something."
"That's sad, I bet you write really good stories to have fans all over Europe wanting you to keep writing them."
"Yeah, I thought they were anyways. But enough about me…what are you doing here in Ireland Michael?"
"I'm recording a new album, it might be my last, I'm getting too old to do this."
"You're only 49, I don't consider that old. I mean you might not be able to dance much, but you can keep your singing career, you are talented in many ways." I said looking at him. He looked at me.
"You think so?" Michael asked.
"I know so, you have millions of fans out there who love and support you. I am one of them. You want to know how many girls would kill to have a chance to sit down and talk to you like this? All of them, because you are who you are." Suddenly a man in a suit and tie, tapped Michael on the shoulder. He seemed to have come out of no where.
"Oh gees, Crystal you have to go, my bodyguard’s back." I frowned, but stood up, understanding that Michael was a celebrity after all. He stood up and held his arms wide signifying that he wanted a hug. I was happy to oblige. I wrapped my arms around Michael as he wrapped his arms around me. I secretly inhaled the scent of his cologne and savored this moment. Thinking it would be the only time I would be held by the man who had changed my life so much.
"It was lovely to get to know you. Be safe." Michael said, with all his sincerity. We waved goodbye to each other as I was headed back to my spot beside Nadine. When I was half way there, I was drenched and the realization hit me.
‘Where’s my jacket?!?!’ I turned around to see that Michael was gone. I ran back to where we had been sitting just moments before and my jacket wasn’t there. My mind was racing. My jacket contained all my personal information, my passport, my social security card, my license…
‘What would Michael Jackson want with your personal information anyway…you have bad credit, and you have nothing of value anyway.’ I put my hands in my jean pockets and tried not to think about my missing jacket. When I got back to my seat I was completely drenched and chilled to the bone. Nadine, was munching on some popcorn that she had bought from a concessions stand nearby. I looked at her, noticing she was concentrating on the soccer game.
“God I‘m so fucking cold, let me borrow your coat Nadine." I said my eyes diverting to the game as well. Nadine then looked at me and noticed that I didn’t have my coat.
“Where’s your coat? You brought one right?”
“I did, but I met a celebrity on my way to the bathroom and I accidentally left my coat with him.”
"Right, like who?" Nadine said, shoving another handful of popcorn in her mouth.
"Michael Jackson." I replied honestly. Nadine looked at me in disbelief, nearly choking on her popcorn in laughter.
"Wh...Who?" She asked again, as if she misheard me.
"Michael Jackson...he saved me from getting my coat rained on, we had a nice conversation, then his bodyguard showed up. I was nervous and left my coat, he probably took it with him." Nadine busted out laughing
"Crystal...Michael Jackson just doesn't rescue girls from getting rained on, then proceeds to have a nice, get-to-know-you chat…whenever you get out of your la-la land, let me know." Nadine said still laughing.
After the game was over we went back to her house, where her family made us a pot roast to celebrate their home teams victory. After dinner I was helping clean up, when the door bell rang. Nadine's mother was preoccupied at the sink, Nadine was tidying up her room to play Dance Dance Revolution. So both had asked me to answer the door. I did so gladly. I opened the door to see none other than Michael standing there in the pouring rain. He was in a black trench coat, a black fedora and was dripping wet. There was a very noticeable bulge in his trench coat like he was protecting something.
"Oh my God, Michael! How...how..." He dug into the left pocket of his trenchcoat and raised up my address book. "Oh." I said looking at him. Nadine's mother came into the entry way.
"Crystal who is...oh my God..." Nadine's mother froze when she laid eyes on Michael. Michael nodded at her.
"Hello." Michael said looking at her, acknowledging her presence. He then looked at me again. I looked at Nadine's mother, my eyes begging for her permission to let him in. Nadine's mother snapped out of her trance and noticed Michael was still standing out in the pouring rain.
"Oi! I'm such a horrible host...come in! Get out of those wet clothes." Nadine's mother said, beckoning me over to her. I moved out of the way of the door as Michael stepped inside, still holding his coat tightly to his body, protecting whatever was inside his coat. I walked over to him, cautiously.
"Can I take you coat?" I asked our eyes meeting. I melted in place, those eyes pierced right through me.
"Sure...oh yes I have something that belongs to you." He turned to me and took out my leather jacket from underneath his jacket. I grasped a hold of the jacket and our hands touched, his hands were so smooth. My knees weakened. I mentally shook myself out of it. I let out a little laugh.
"Thank you, I didn't think I'd ever see this jacket again." I said looking back at him.
"Nonsense, it has your wallet and personal belongings in it, I had to return it. You wouldn't get through customs without it." Michael said letting out a small laugh. Just then Nadine walked into the kitchen.
"Crystal, the room’s clean so if you wanted to play DDR we...holy shit..." Nadine said stopping dead in her tracks, seeing that Michael Jackson was standing in her kitchen. Michael's head turned to see another person. Michael turned his attention back to me, his eyes pleading for an introduction.
"Um...Nadine, remember what I told you earlier, well this is Michael Jackson. Michael this is my friend Nadine, the one I was telling you about." I said looking at Michael and Nadine. Nadine stood there speechless. Michael turned to her and offered his hand.
"It's lovely to meet you Nadine," He said flashing her his infamous smile.
"It's nice to meet you too Michael." Nadine said, nervously shaking his hand.
"Mr. Jackson would you like something to drink or eat?" Nadine's mother asked, looking over at Michael. "We have a bit of pot roast left..."Michael looked at Nadine's mother.
"I'd love some water." Michael said, taking off his fedora, and trench coat and handing them to me. I just put them in the doorway with the others.
"I'll get you some water, feel free to make yourself at home." Nadine's mother said. I saw Michael walk into the entryway of the house, where I was putting his coat and fedora into the coat closet. Michael set his shoes next to mine and flashed me a smile.
"You don't mind if I stay here and hang out for a while do you?" Michael asked looking at me. I smiled.
"I don't mind at all." I said, flashing yet another smile. I looked at Nadine. “You don’t mind do you?”
“I don’t, just as long as I get to bed at a decent time. Tomorrow’s a school day you know.” I smiled and nodded. Nadine began to make her way upstairs leaving Michael and I in the entryway.
"You have a beautiful smile, you really should smile more often." Michael said, touching my chin with his forefinger. This caused me to blush. Nadine came in, holding a glass of water and a can of Coca cola. She handed Michael the glass of water and the coca cola to me.
"Mmm...thank you Nadine." Michael said, gulping down the glass of water.
"Yes thank you." I said looking at Nadine. "So what were you saying before?" I said, cracking open the can of coke.
"I was saying that the room is clean and we can play DDR...that is if you still wanted to." She said looking at me.
"Of course, I love DDR Nadine, you should know this...what about you Michael? Are you coming to play with us?" I asked, taking a sip of my soda.
"DDR? Oh it's on! I'm gonna annihilate you guys…" Michael said cockily. I raised my eyebrow at him.
"Is that so? Well we'll just have to see about that!" And with that, I took off in a full sprint to Nadine's room. Michael and Nadine were quick to follow.
"Last one to Nadine's room is a rotten egg!" I screamed as I rounded the corner into the kitchen and began to make my way through the kitchen.
