Gregg looked over at the frightened young man in the front seat of his car. Steve was near tears and Gregg wanted to kick himself for getting the two of them in the mess. He looked out of the car at the snowy road, trying to figure out what his next move should be. He didn’t realize the snow would be this deep on the road to the resort. He wasn’t sure how much progress they had made towards their destination, driving had been really slow, and now they were firmly stuck. To avoid hitting a deer who had run into the road, Gregg had managed to slide off the asphalt. Now he couldn’t get enough traction under the tires to move the car out of the snow bank.
It was getting dim out, what light they had was rapidly disappearing as the sun was dropping in the sky. The snow that had just been falling lightly, was now whirling rather thickly around the vehicle.Steve’s voice cut into Gregg’s thoughts. He said “What are we going to do?” Gregg was quiet a minute, looking at what appeared to be a short drive by where the car had stopped. There were utility pole with power lines swaying in the breeze as they disappeared in the distance. He said “I am going to get out, and walk down this side road here. There are wires. Maybe there is house nearby, and someone would let us use the phone.” “You are going to leave me alone?” Steve almost whimpered. Misty, Steve’s grey kitten, meowed from her carrier, almost as if in agreement. Gregg told him, “Just for a few minutes, I don’t want to have to spend the night in the car we don’t have to.” “Keep the car running and stay under the blanket. I will be right back. “Gregg tightened his coat around him and said “Lock the door and just relax.” He squeezed Steve’s hand and the singer told him “Please be careful!”
Gregg started down the road, praying that he could find some help, a solution to their desperate situation. He had traveled only a short way when the road curved around a bend. He saw what the wires lead to- an old cabin. There were no signs of life but he rapidly approached it anyway. He tried the door and it opened easily. Even in the dingy light he could tell it had been a long time since the cabin had been used. It was probably a small vacation home. But it was snuggly built and there was a huge fireplace. He looked at the stack of wood in the corner. It was old but still usable. There was no sign of a phone but perhaps they could at least have a warm and safe shelter for the night. He knew darkness would be coming soon so they would need to hurry. He left the cabin pulling the door closed behind him, before he started back to the car.
Steve was anxiously looking out the window. He had picked up Misty still in her carrier, putting her in his lap. He then wrapped the blanket around them both to keep warm. He too was praying Gregg would find a phone or some other help. It seemed like an eternity but it was really only about a half an hour before Gregg returned. He was relieved when he seen the car. He rolled down the window despite letting the cold in. “Did you find anything?” Gregg said “It is just an old cabin, no phone but it will be warm and safe for the night. We are going to take some of our stuff and sleep there. Hopefully in the morning we can find a way out of here. Steve didn’t look convinced, but Gregg said “Come on, let’s grab our backpacks and get going. Wrap the blanket around the carrier and I will carry Misty. We need to move fast for it will be dark soon. “
Even though Gregg carried the heaviest load, Steve was exhausted by time they got to the cabin. He was grateful to open the door and step inside. The cabin had very little furniture in it and what was there was covered with dust. Stacked in the corner was an abundance of wood. There were also several candles and two lamps. Gregg quickly lit a number of the candles and then said “Can you get the fire started.” Steve nodded but looked worried. “Where are you going?” Gregg said “I want to get the cooler.” Steve said “You are going back out to the car?” Gregg nodded.” I want us to have some food. It won’t take me long, just try to get settled.” He smiled, trying to reassure the singer. Gregg shut the door leaving Steve to get the fire going. As soon as he finished that he pulled two small blankets out of his back pack and made a make shift bed for Misty. He opened her carrier then and coaxed her outside with several treats, from the bag he always kept with him. The cat seemed happy to be free and stretched luxuriously before climbing onto her warm nest. Gregg still wasn’t back yet so Steve looked around the cabin. There were two doors off to the side of the main room. He open one and found a small bathroom. The second one was obviously a bedroom with a queen sized bed. There was a chest in the corner of the room and Steve was curious about the contents. He lifted the lid and found some remarkable clean and well preserved bedding. That will come in handy he thought as he pulled out a large down comforter and several blankets. There were even some soft linen sheets. He carried them into the front room and started to make a bed for the two of them. He opened up both of their sleeping bags and laid them on the floor to create a soft mattress like padding and covered them with one of the sheets. He then laid the other sheet and the blankets on top with the comforter folded so they could slide underneath them when they lay down for the night. He looked at the bed for minute then slipped his coat underneath the top of the sleeping bags. Now that would be comfy for sleeping, he thought. Concentrating on making a nice bed helped him to not dwell on the mess they were in. Damn, Gregg had been gone a long time. What if he fell or got lost or hurt? Steve fretted. He didn’t want to think about it too hard so he opened a kitchen cabinet. In it he found a tea pot and cups. They were dusty but looked usable. He turned the knob on the faucet and was surprised to find after a few loud spurts that the water did run. He rinsed the pot out several times then filled it with water. He then set it on the grate over the fire so it could heat. He figured the water would boil and he had tea bags in his back pack. He rinsed the tea cups out well and set a tea bag in each.
At that moment he heard a thump against the door. Steve opened it and Gregg stumbled in with the cooler and a large box. He said “OK we can eat and I have my camping dishes and the cat food and liter. It will get us through the storm.” “A lot of stuff for one night,” Steve said wonderingly. Gregg didn’t want to tell the singer that he was afraid they might be there more than one day. He sat the stuff down and went over to the fire. “It feels good” he said as he held his hands out to warm them. The room was feeling more comfortable. “I can cook over the fire and we can fill the cooler with snow to keep the perishable food safe.” Steve asked again “Why so much preparation for only tonight.” Gregg didn’t want to frighten Steve, he already seemed scared enough, but finally said, “We are warm and dry here, and we have enough food for a few days. I don’t want to move us till the snow has stopped. So it might be longer then overnight.” Steve was quiet a minute then tried to make light of the situation. “Well hopefully we won’t die of boredom!” The tea pot whistled and he went to pour the water. Gregg gratefully accepted the hot drink. At that point Misty got up and walked over to Steve. Looking up she mewed loudly. Steve went to open a can of food for her. While he was doing that Gregg said, “I am going to get some food together for supper. Then after we eat we can turn in. Might as well get a good night’s rest.” He looked down at the bed, “That looks really comfortable; we will get some sleep there.” Steve smiled “With a cedar chest full of bedclothes in the bedroom, it’s the least I can do to contribute a soft place to sleep.” Gregg smiled back and then opened the cooler to start fixing the evening meal.
Searching around Steve was able to find a small box that he made into a makeshift litter box for Misty. He smiled remembering he had tried the bathroom and was grateful the toilet worked. He really didn’t care for the idea of going to the bathroom outside. He chuckled thinking how easy cats had it; all they needed was a box to dig in, good food, and a warm place to sleep. As imagined, with a place to do her business, a warm sleeping spot, and her belly full, the kitty was more than happy to make the best of her surroundings. She lay on Steve’s lap as he rubbed her belly and talked softly to her.
It didn’t take long for Gregg to put together a quick supper. He was grateful that the resort they were going to had a in room kitchen. Because of this, they had bought groceries and were planning on cooking most of their own meals. He was also grateful to find some other cooking utensils present in the cupboard which were old but usable after a good rinsing. The meal was simple. It consisted of hot coffee, rolls with butter, and some rich homemade soup that they had brought from home, heated up over the fire, and thick slabs of cheddar cheese. It was filling and satisfying. After they were finished, Steve cleaned the dishes the best he could. “I have my skillet and pancake makings in the box. I will make some over the fire tomorrow,” Gregg said. Steve smiled “You are amazing. You must have been a great Boy Scout.” Gregg shook his head. “Never a scout. Actually, I learned to do a lot camping and backpacking in the early 70’s after I left Santana. I went on a lot of trips to sort of find myself. Got a little lost in the all the fame and money. That all gets a bit overwhelming when you so young and things come so fast.” “Steve looked at him very intently and asked “Is it better this time around?” Gregg thought for a minute. “Cars, money, that stuff is all great. Still, a bit lonely. You wonder who your friends are sometimes, and whether the girls like you for yourself.” Then he smiled and said “You have been a good friend, Steve!” Steve laughed, “I have been a good friend? YOU have been a fantastic friend! Keeping me company on the road. Showing me the ropes of touring. Letting me live with you instead of making me stay in a hotel.” Gregg hugged him. “Thanks. I am feeling a bit stupid getting us in this mess.” Steve said, “You have found us a warm safe place to stay for night, and we are fed and cozy.” At that moment Steve yawned and said “In fact I feel like I am ready to turn in now. I’m kind of beat.” He wasn’t lying, for he did feel exhausted, and the stress of the day contributed to that. Gregg said, “Ok I am tired also. I just want to change into something warm and comfy to sleep in. These jeans are a bit wet.” That was when Steve realized Gregg’s legs were damp from dripping snow. The keyboardist reached into his back pack and pulled out an outfit. He looked at Steve and said “I will go into the other room to change.” Steve shook his head and said “No Gregg, stay here by the fire. I am going to climb in right now.” He slipped into the “bed” and tucked the covers over him. He quietly watched Gregg change into a soft t-shirt and long soft well-worn pants. Steve found himself staring but he couldn’t help but compare Gregg’s body to his own. He often kind of wondered why the girls all were so hot over him, but didn’t pay that much attention to Gregg. Steve was very thin, almost fragile looking. Gregg was tall, broad, and very strong looking. And he had quite a crop of chest hair, something Steve much to his chagrin, completely lacked. He was also rather amused at the fact, as he found out early in his days with the band, that Gregg never wore underwear. Not that Gregg didn’t have a reason to show off. Steve knew he was gifted himself but Gregg was even bigger. Gregg finished changing and made the fire safe for the night. “It might get pretty cold here,” he said, “glad we have lots of covers.” He climbed into the bed, and chuckled when Misty jumped from her spot to the spot near Steve’s feet. The cat proceeded to walk up towards Steve and lay next to him partially positioned under the cover. “Do you mind?” Steve asked, “she cries all night if she can’t get in bed with me.” “No,” Gregg said, “your little buddy needs to be warm too.” Steve turned on his side, resting his hand on the kitty. “Warm enough.” Gregg asked. Steve said, “I am getting there.” Actually, he was petty toasty. Gregg’s body heat was helping. Gregg actually shifted his position, so the two were actually pressed together. “Goodnight Steve,” Gregg said. “Goodnight,” the singer answered. Within a few short minutes both men had fallen asleep.
At some point in the night Steve’s eyes popped open. The fire was burned down and the room was cold. Misty was snuggled close to him and Gregg was snoring lightly. Suddenly there was a huge crash and the windows of the small cabin lit up like the middle of day. Steve was terrified and just as another loud rumble shook their safe haven, he let out an ear splitting shriek. Gregg startled. He sat up and looked in confusion at his frightened bedmate. Steve’s eyes were swimming with tears. “What is the matter?” He asked, very concerned over Steve’s shocking outburst. At that minute there was flash of light and Steve whimpered “What is that? What is happening?” “Oh Steve,” Gregg said gently but a bit amused. “It is a thunderstorm. It is not unusual in this area for it to have thunder and lightning during a heavy snow. It is safe here Steve.” Steve felt foolish and said “ I am sorry. I must sound like a baby.” Gregg said “No you are just scared and this is not how you were expecting to be spending the night. I promise Steve I won’t let anything happen to you. I will do my best to protect you.” Gregg noticed Steve still looked uncomfortable. At that moment the tension was broken by Misty climbing up Gregg’s body. She had gone to her bowl for a bit of kibble. Then after a quick trip to the litter box, she was ready to resume her “cat nap” on the most comfortable spot she could find. Unfortunately for Gregg, this was smack in the middle of his stomach. Gregg giggled a bit and said “OK I definitely need to go on a diet if the cat thinks my gut is a soft enough pillow to sleep on.” Steve finally smiled and said “I can move her,” but Gregg shook his head. “No she is comfortable, let her sleep.” He then said “Now, let’s get you comfortable.” He gestured for Steve to move closer to him, and said “It is chilly in here. Glad you found all these covers.” Steve laid down close. Then Gregg reached out to him. Steve looked at him questioningly and Gregg asked “Do you mind? I thought you might sleep sounder.” Steve shook his head and said softly “I don’t mind.” He allowed Gregg to draw Steve’s head down on his chest so that both he and the kitten were resting on Gregg’s broad form.” Steve said “I feel safe like this.” Gregg answered him “Good.” It wasn’t long before the two men and the kitten were all sleeping soundly.
The next time Gregg opened his eyes, a dim light was visible through the window. It was getting close to dawn. Steve and Misty were still asleep; the rest of the night passing without incident. The cabin was quite cold. Gregg got up and used the bathroom, splashing some water on his face. He then gathered the wood together, and quickly got the fire started. It didn’t take long for the room to start warming up but Gregg took time to look around the cabin a bit more before he woke Steve. He spotted several board games and upon inspection he found all the pieces were still there. He hoped he and Steve could use them to kill some time. The singer was obviously nervous and something to occupy his mind would help to keep him calm.
Gregg got the tea pot on before he went to wake Steve. The young man was easy to wake. He was much more of a morning person then Gregg had ever been. He looked out anxiously at the still grey window. He asked “Is it still snowing.” Gregg said “Yeah babe but it was supposed to end sometime this afternoon. I figure we have food, water and a safe place to stay sheltered. We will be alright till the morning then if nothing else works we can get back to the road and start walking. The lodge should only be a couple miles down the road. We can bundle up good and put plenty of blankets in Misty’s cage. Steve must have still looked worried because Gregg said “It is alright Steve, we are going to be fine. I promised your Mom I would look after you. Now I am going to get us some food together. I’ll show you how to make pancakes over a campfire.” At that moment, Misty let out a loud meow, as if saying “Feed me!” Gregg laughed and even Steve had to smile. He slowly got up out of the makeshift bed and went to open a can of food. Misty was soon enjoying her breakfast while the delicious smell of blueberry pancakes filled the room. Steve set the make shift table
Shortly afterwards they all had full bellies, even Misty. The pancakes were amazingly good, especially considering they were cooked under rather crude circumstances- none of the typical modern conveniences Gregg usually had access to. He had even managed to make the butter melt just enough to coat the pancakes before he poured the warm syrup over top of the stacks. Now Steve managed to rinse the dishes off the best he could. He had straightened the bed so it would feel fresh and comfortable for when they turned in that night. Misty had curled up in the center of it and was sleeping deeply.
Now with the long day ahead of them to fill, Gregg pulled out one of the board games. Parcheesi was his first choice and he sat it out on the table. Steve shook his head. “I don’t remember how to play that.” Gregg smiled, “I will teach you.”
The keyboardist patiently explained the game rules to Steve. It took a bit of time but Steve was able to get the rules down enough to give Gregg a run for his money. They went back and forth, each getting close to home and being sent back to start several times. And by the fourth game Steve was actually able to beat Gregg rather easily. By then it was late in the afternoon. Gregg looked out and was relieved to see the snow had stopped. In fact the sky was clearing even as the light was starting to grow dim.At that moment he heard a noise. Steve had managed to open the door to look outside. However Gregg was not prepared for what happened next. He suddenly got hit by a cold wet snowball. Steve had reached out side and scooped up a pile of snow and compacted into a small projectile. Steve ran for the door, and Gregg just could not resist following. Steve had a head start but Gregg was bigger and stronger, which helped him move quickly through the snow. Steve was slight, small and thin. Once he got off the porch he struggled to move any distance. Gregg on the other hand was plowing through the snow as if running for touchdown through a group of NFL defensive linemen. Knowing he was doomed Steve stopped but not before hurling another hastily made snowball at Gregg. This one hit him square in the gut. Steve shrieked “I give! I give!” as Gregg literally tackled him. The soft snow fortunately broke his fall as keyboardist’s heavy weight came down on him. He couldn’t help giggling at Gregg though. He sighed and said to the tiny singer “you are not in a position to laugh at me!” which caused Steve just laughed harder. “What?” Gregg was a bit mystified at this point. “Steve said “You look like Santa a bit.” “Huh? I should just bury you in the snow.” Gregg said trying to sound threatening but failing miserably. He reached up at that moment and touched his hair and the scruffy beard he had grown in the last couple days. He finally understood what Steve meant when he felt the snow that was stuck in both places. It suddenly dawned on him neither of them had coats on. As if reading Gregg’s mind, Steve shivered violently. Gregg stood up and pulled him quickly to his feet. He said “Come on let’s go in. I don’t want you to get pneumonia.” The two men walked in quickly together.
Upon the return to the cabin they both changed into dry clothes. Steve wrapped himself up in blankets while Gregg quickly boiled water for hot chocolate. As soon as the hot liquid was available, he fixed them both a cup. He built the fire up quite a bit to warm them both. After placing the clothes over several chairs to dry in the heat from the fire, Gregg sat down next to Steve and shivered a bit himself. Steve instantly offered him the opportunity to slide underneath the blanket. Now the two were snuggled close together sipping hot cocoa, to which Gregg had even managed to add some marshmallow and crème. They were both a bit sleepy, and were quiet, as they were lost in their own thoughts. It felt comfortable and safe and neither wanted to break the spell with words. But finally Gregg spoke and said “I will heat the rest of the soup and we have a peanut butter and jelly to make some sandwiches. Will that work for you?” Steve nodded, “That will be fine. I am going to feed Misty, too. They both slowly and reluctantly moved out from under the blanket.
While they were eating they were able to watch out the window. The snow had been over for a while and the sky was now filled with bright stars. The moon shone brilliantly and Gregg said “It will be clear tomorrow. Hopefully the road will be clear. Fortunately there are some shovels in the back of the cabin. Maybe we can use them and dig out the car. Either way, we should be able to get help get out of here and to the resort where we belong.” Steve nodded, “Thanks for taking such good care of me Gregg. You did a great job.” Gregg smiled. In fact, he sort of blushed a bit. He said “Well I will feel much better when we are in a nice warm hotel with electricity, heat and other people.” As they finished the meal, they were both yawning. They made the necessary preparations for the night and snuggled down in the bed. The moonlight shone through the window as Misty found a comfortable spot near Steve. It was quiet for a few minutes. Just the sound of the two men breathing filled the air. Suddenly, a feeling over took Gregg. He opened his eyes and stared at his companion. Steve was beginning to nod off. His hair glistened in the glow from the window. There was just enough light to see Steve’s face. His sweet gentle features filled Gregg with strong emotions. He reached out to touch the singer; brushing his hair out of his face. Gregg as if some outside power controlled him leaned over Steve. He gently and softly kissed Steve on his beautiful full lips.
Steve’s eyes popped open. He jerked away from Gregg and asked frantically, “What are you doing?” Gregg seemed a bit in shock himself and he said “I don’t know. You were just lying there, looking so … beautiful.” Steve shook his head, “Not into that,” he whispered. Gregg looked at him, feeling unbelievably sad. But he said, “I can go in the other room and sleep.” “No Gregg that is ridiculous. You would freeze!! Just let’s go to sleep. We will be out of here in the morning.” He laid back down and patted the bed next to him. “Come on, I am exhausted and cold.” Gregg laid back down. It was quite a while however before either one of them fell asleep.
Gregg’s awoke to a chilly but bright sun peeking into the cabin window. He laid there next to Steve for a few minutes, just enjoying the warmth of his body. Both the singer and his pet were still deeply asleep. Gregg didn’t look forward to crawling out into the chilly air. Plus he was mortified at how he crossed the line last night with the singer. It wasn’t like Gregg had never been with a man before sexually, but Steve had never showed any indication that he was interested in a physical or romantic relationship with him. He sighed and forced himself to slide out from under the covers. He laid the heavy bedding over his sleeping band mate to make sure he stayed warm. He quickly bundled up, grabbed the shovels from the back room, and headed out the door. He wanted to see if it was possible to dig out the car and get it moving.
It didn’t take long to get to where the car was sitting. It was buried deep though; some of the snow had obviously drifted in the blowing wind. The bright sun was starting to melt some of it though, so Gregg decided to get to work. It he could clear the car and get it started, maybe he could push it out of the rut it was stuck in.
Gregg had not been working long when he heard voices calling him. He looked up. Pulling up next to him was a heavy large pickup truck with a park services logo on the side. A man dressed in a park ranger uniform stuck his head of the truck’s passenger side. “Hey, are you alright? We can get a tow to get your car out and get you someplace warm. Be much faster than digging.” “Yes!” Gregg said relieved. “My friend and I got stuck here and have been holed up in that old cabin at the end of the drive for the last two nights.” He then quickly explained what had transpired on their trip to the ski resort. The ranger said “Man, you are only about a mile from the resort. You just couldn’t see it because of the curves in the road put it out of view behind the mountains at this point. You could have walked it on a good day. And believe it or not the cabin used to be part of the active resort. There are several around. Years ago, they use to be rented out for the hard core outdoors folk; the ones who wanted a rustic vacation. It is still part of the property.” Gregg smiled “I am glad it was there. We would have been lost otherwise.” The ranger told him “Tell you what, go tell your friend to start packing and I will radio for the tow. Then I can help you dig a little bit more.” Gregg gratefully grabbed the guys hand and shook it. “Thank you so much. I will gladly pay for any services!” The ranger shook his head “No charge, it is all part of our job. Now give me that shovel while you go tell your buddy rescue is at hand.” However Gregg insisted on helping the two men for a bit.Steve rolled over in the makeshift bed and felt an empty spot next to him. He sat up and realized Gregg was not in the bed. It was cold and completely silent in the cabin. He became rapidly aware that he was alone. Terror struck deep with in him. Where could the keyboardist be? Had he been so upset that Steve thwarted his advances that he had abandoned the singer. He looked around and noted that Gregg’s coat and boots were gone, and he had not even started the fire. He had to have left, after he promised he would look out for him. Steve blinked back tears and scooped the sleeping Misty up in his arms. “Oh Misty,” he whispered into her fur, what are we going to do?”
The door suddenly opened. Gregg came in bringing the cold air with him. Steve laughed shakily with tears spilling over. Gregg looked at him questioningly. “What is wrong Steve? The rangers are getting our car out! We will be on the way to the lodge soon. You don’t have to be scared anymore.” Steve said “I was afraid you may have been upset with me and left me behind.” Gregg asked, “Why would you think that?” Steve said “Because of what happened last night.” Gregg didn’t speak but intense shock and pain was clearly written on his face. He shook his head, almost sounding like he was ready to cry himself. “Steve no matter what, I would never abandon you.” He swallowed and said “Start packing up everything. I am going back to the car. When we get it dug out, I will be back to take you and the stuff to the car.” He quickly exited the house shutting the door rather hard behind him.
It didn’t take long for the three men to get the majority of the snow off the vehicle. By time the two had arrived, Gregg actually had started the car and warmed up the engine. The car was freed from the mess and pulled onto the shoulder of the main road. The rangers said their goodbyes after being assured that Gregg would be able to make his way safely to the lodge. Gregg thanked them profusely and once again offered them some money. They refused and told Gregg they hoped he had a good time at the resort. As soon as they climbed into their truck, Gregg walked back down the road to the cabin, looking forward to soon being on their way.
He got back to the cabin to find Steve sitting quietly in one of the old chairs. Everything was neatly packed and he was in his coat and gloves. Misty was in her carrier and he was talking softly to her. Gregg smiled gently and said “Come on let’s go. I will carry the heavy stuff, might need to make two trips. You take Misty.” In a short period of time the car was packed and they were on the way. After a quick stop to replenish some supplies at the small grocer on the resort grounds, they enjoyed a snack and hot drink. Gregg pulled the vehicle into the parking lot close to the office door. He said “I will go in and see about getting us into the room. You can wait here.” It only a few minutes before Gregg came back with the room keys and directions to the room, handing them to Steve before starting the car. He drove over to a low building with a row of huge windows facing the mountains. He parked and pulled the keys out of the ignition. “Go on in, take Misty and open up the door. I will bring the bags in.” Steve picked up the small bag of groceries and the cat carrier.
Steve was so grateful to go to the hotel room, to be safe and warm at last that he almost ran to the room. When he opened the door and stepped inside, he drew in a happy breath. The suite was huge and beautifully decorated. There was an area with a small kitchenette including a table to sit at. A living room with soft couch and chairs that faced the window. Beyond that he could see a bedroom with a huge queen sized bed and smaller room with a double bed. He sat Misty down and unhooked the door to her carrier. She strolled out stretching and purring contentedly as if she was happy too, to be in the warm hotel. Gregg then came in with the suitcases. He said “I am so glad to be here. I know it ain’t very exciting but all I want today is a hot meal, a soak in the tub, and a good night’s sleep in a real bed. I will take you skiing tomorrow.” Poor Gregg really did look beat. Steve thought about how hard Gregg had worked to “take care” of Steve and how much he obviously cared about him. Steve told him “That is fine.” They were both quiet. Neither one of them willing to speak about the awkward scene last night. But one thing was weighing on Steve’s mind though. He finally said “Gregg I am so sorry about what I said this morning. I should have realized you would never desert me.” Gregg looked sad a moment then said “No Steve I wouldn’t BUT I was wrong making a pass at you. I mean I have never made it a secret that I liked both women and men. But I had no right to touch you.” He sighed then said “Do you just want to go home tomorrow, if you would be uncomfortable being here with me?” Steve said” No this is a vacation for both of us. And we need it.” And I appreciate everything you did for me Gregg; keeping me safe and keeping me from being afraid.” He walked up to Gregg and hugged him tight. Gregg looked surprised but pleased. Steve was shocked to find out that he was reluctant to end the embrace. He felt a bit awkward but he quickly moved past the moment by saying “I am a bit tired also.” “Why don’t we get some room service and just watch some TV this afternoon.” Gregg looked relieved. “That is a great idea. Which room do you want? They both have the view.” Steve said “You take the big one. In fact when we get settled in, you can take a nice long soak in the tub first. Then we can decide on supper and put our order in and I will take my bath while we wait for it.” Gregg said “No you go first Steve you are a lot more sensitive to the cold then I!” “I will get Misty’s stuff set up and feed her.” Steve was chilled to the bone; the two cold nights in the cabin and this morning without the fire being started had been difficult on him. He agreed and decided to take his stuff into the room and get in the hot water as possible.
After getting Misty settled and pulling a comfortable outfit for lounging for the afternoon, Steve went into the bathroom. There was both a shower with a glassed in stall and a huge Jacuzzi bath tub. Steve opted for the shower, since he wanted to wash his hair. Two days in the dusty cabin made him feel like his hair had not been washed for month. He stripped off his clothes and turned on the steamy water. He climbed inside, enjoying the heat on his skin. It didn’t take long to soap up and rinse his hair, then add a conditioner. He then luxuriated with lavender bath soap and a soft fluffy wash cloth. When he got out of the shower, he noticed a soft thick robe in a lovely shade of cobalt blue hanging on the back of the door. It had not been there when he first went in. Wrapping himself in a towel he noticed a note pinned to the pocket. It said “I thought this would help keep you warm here. Hope you like it. Gregg” Steve smiled and quickly finished drying himself off. He slipped into a soft pair of cut offs and a t-shirt, both of which were his normal sleeping outfit. He blew dry his long hair and brushed it till it was shiny as ever. Finally he pulled the robe around him. It fit well and made Steve feel snug and safe. Remembering that Gregg was waiting for the bathroom, he went out to the main room. Misty was curled up on a pillow and Gregg was dozing on the couch, but the keyboardist opened his eyes when Steve entered. Steve smiled and said brightly, indicating the blue robe. “I love it!” Gregg smiled as well then said “Why don’t you look at the menu and see what you would like, then go ahead and order for us!” He stood up stretched then headed for the bathroom. Steve stretched out on the couch with the room service list, concentrating on picking the best dinner selections.
Entering the bathroom Gregg quickly stripped off his clothes. After the shoveling he did this morning, a Jacuzzi soak seemed like a good idea. But right now he really wanted to finish as fast as possible. He was ravenous and he was sure Steve was too. So he opted for a fast shower and a good shampoo. He thought maybe later that night he would relax in the hot tub before they turned in for the night. Suddenly he had an image of Steve joining him in the bath, sitting on his lap, and resting his head against the keyboardist. It both startled and excited Gregg. “Geeze Rolie,” he said to himself, “That will really permanently end your friend ship with Steve if he knew about that.” Despite that thought, the sexy image made a delicious shiver run through his body. “Come on, get it together Gregg.” he chided himself while dressing in a soft warm outfit for lounging that evening. His growling stomach caused him to finish as fast as he could, so he could rejoin Steve in the main part of the suite. In the meantime Steve had perused the menu and selected a wide variety of dishes. Big crocks of French onion soup with cheese and bread floating on top for each of them; a large dish of cheesy manicotti for them to share; Caesar salad and bread sticks, plus German chocolate cake for desert. Gregg was just exiting the bathroom when there was a knock at the door. Steve answered. It was room service with a cartful of food. Along with the dishes of food there was a wine bucket with a bottle of what Steve recognized to be an expensive sweet red wine from Italy. He looked at the waiter who said “Complimentary. One of our Ranger staff was at the desk when your order was placed. He said to include this. There is a card too.” Gregg was getting his wallet out but Steve said “I got this,” and quickly paid the bill along with giving the waiter a generous tip. After the man left, Steve was curious about the wine. He looked at the note and read it aloud “Glad you guys arrived safely. Hope you two have a wonderful time together and make some beautiful memories.” Remembering the night before and his inappropriate behavior, Gregg blushed. Could the ranger have picked up on some unspoken feeling? A vibe that showed how strongly Gregg felt for Steve. He didn’t know how that would have happened. But Steve seemed unaffected by all of it and went to setting the dishes up on the table. By now it was nearing sunset and they could see the lovely colors starting to flush the sky over the mountains. The last rays of the sunlight glittered on the deep snow, making the outside world look exceptionally frosty. But inside the hotel was comfortable, warm, and safe. Feeling the need to change the subject from the note, Gregg looked at the clock and said “the days are short this time of year.” Steve smiled and said “But it makes for long cozy winter nights.” Gregg was surprised at the comment that almost sounded romantic in nature. But Steve only said “Sit down. Everything looks delicious.”
The two dug into the food, starting with the salad and soup. It was even better than it looked. The men didn’t talk much while they ate. They enjoyed the meal and the lovely view out of the window. The evening sky turned a vivid pink that was both bold and crisp, with the sun slipping down behind the snow covered mountains. As the night advanced the view turned to various shades of purple and Steve sighed in delight. “It is gorgeous here” he said between mouthfuls of the pasta. He refilled his glass. The wine was quite strong and made Steve feel a bit giddy. “So do you want to watch some TV tonight?” Gregg said, “there is a TV in the big bedroom.” “Sure we can do that” Steve consented. Gregg said “You know we can turn in early so we can get a good start if we’re going to go up on the lifts tomorrow. It will be busy in the morning.” Steve agreed but said “I am a little nervous about skiing. Never went for athletics much in high school. My body broke too easily.” Gregg smiled “I will take care of you. And we have the Jacuzzi to soak in when you get home.” The statement reminded Gregg of his own desire for a hot soak. His muscles were sore from shoveling the heavy wet snow. He said “I think I am going to fill the Jacuzzi and sit in the hot water for a while. I got a workout today from digging out the vehicle.” Steve thought again about how hard Gregg had worked to keep him safe and content during their stay at the rustic cabin. “I can give you a massage. A girl I dated just before I joined Journey taught me the techniques. I used to do for the guys in the bands I was with. You know, we had to haul our own equipment. Playing, hauling, and transporting. Made for some long tiring days, along with lots of aches and pains. But it was paying off…then Richard.” Steve trailed off and suddenly looked down and at his plate. Gregg put his fork down and got up from his chair. He walked over and bent down to give Steve a hug, which the singer accepted gladly. “Good things are happening for you now Steve,” he told him. “And I can’t think of anyone more deserving.” Steve hung on to Gregg tightly for a few minutes then slowly pulled away. He sniffled and said “Let’s finish our food so you go get in the hot water. After that I will do your massage.” Gregg sat back down and finished the remains of the pasta before attacking the German Chocolate cake. He smiled at Steve and said “Quite an international meal.” While Steve cleaned up and got the room ready for the night, Gregg rested in the tub for about a half an hour enjoying the hot steamy water and the bubbles. He was reluctant to get out but at last the water started to cool. He stood up and dried off wrapping his own robe around him. He went in to the main room to find out that Steve had laid a sheet out on the floor near the fireplace. The fluffy rug made good padding and as he motioned for Gregg to lay down he said, “I don’t want to get oil on the rug.” Gregg pulled his robe down to cover the lower part of his body. For some reason tonight he was self-conscious about being naked. They had been nude in front of each other plenty of times in dressing rooms and hotel rooms on tour. But for some reason this seemed different, Gregg thought as he tried to relax and calm his mind. As it turned out Steve was very skilled at his technique. His hands were strong despite being so slender and delicate looking. Gregg was soon so relaxed he could almost feel himself falling asleep. He sighed and fantasized about turning over and letting Steve massage his front. Suddenly certain parts of his body were very much awake. Whoops, he thought. Now, he needed a cold shower.. Fortunately, Steve sensed and gently shook him saying “OK, time to get up sleepy head. I can’t pick you up and I doubt you want to sleep on the floor. Gregg laughed softly and said “No!” He stood up and wrapped his robe back around himself. He went into the bed room and pulled on pants he planned on sleeping in. Steve turned off the lights in the main room and checked the door one last time. Gregg laid down on the bed. Steve said “If you are too tired to watch TV it’s OK.” Gregg said, “We can look at it for a while.” Steve turned the set on to his delight found a channel that was showing a marathon of old horror movies. Gregg had to chuckle at that. Steve laid down beside him, sliding under the covers. “Do you mind” he asked Gregg. “No it would be cold for you here without the covers. Misty came wandering in and hopped up on the bed next to them, kneading the covers to make herself comfy. She curled up next to Steve, but rested her head on Gregg’s stomach. “So I am a pillow again,” he said and reached out to scratch the kitties head. He was rewarded with a round of intense purring. He quietly turned his attention to the movie. It was not too long though before he fell fast asleep. Steve actually watched the end of the first movie, a second one and the beginnings of a third before he began to nod off. He knew he should get up and go to his own room. He flipped the remote off lifted Misty from her spot. The kitty mewed in protest then dug her feet into the bed. Trying not to wake Gregg he attempted again to move the cat but she mewed again louder. Knowing from past experiences that he could not get the kitty to relocate if she did not want to and not wanting to disturb his sleeping friend, he simply gave up. He laid back down and Misty resumed her contented purring in her comfy position snuggled between the two men. The bed was large but warm and cozy so he laid back on the pillow and closed his eyes. Listening to Gregg’s gentle breezing and feeling the warm of his body and Misty’s, the singer was soon asleep as well.
Gregg woke up feeling the warmth of the blankets and the soft bed underneath him. He stretched a bit and realized, with much relief, that they were safe in the hotel. They had managed to find the resort, had hot baths, and a delicious meal. He was surprised though when he looked over and seen Steve and Misty snoozing beside him. The moonlight illuminated the sleeping man and the soft glow made Steve look even more angelic than usual. Gregg felt incredibly peaceful and contented watching the beautiful sight. After a few moments he sighed deeply, closed his eyes, and drifted back into a deep slumber.
Steve woke up and rolled over to try and get a sense of what time it was. The clock said 930 am, kind of late for him. But he had a great nights rest. He looked over and noticed Gregg was not in the bed with him but he could smell the unmistakable and quite delightful smell of Gregg’s pancakes. Misty was absent from the room as well so he climbed out of bed and went into the main room of the suite. Looking up from the food he was preparing, Gregg said “Oh you are up. I was just about to wake you and tell you breakfast was ready.” He waved his hand towards the sofa where Misty was busily giving herself a bath. “I fed the kitty too. She was ready to eat… or at least that is what I guess her smacking me on the face meant.” Steve smiled and said “She must really like you if she is comfortable enough to demand food from you.” Gregg stacked a plate with pancakes and sat them into the oven to keep warm. He said “You want to wash up quick while I make some eggs?” Steve yawned and nodded, thinking some water on his face would wake him up quite nicely. But before he left the room he said “Listen, Misty would not budge last night so I stayed in your room. Hope you don’t mind.” “Not at all,” Gregg told him while he was thinking about how amazing it felt to wake up and see Steve and his kitty sleeping next to him, apparently feeling very safe. It made Gregg feel less horrible about his pass the last night in the cabin. Steve had obviously moved on. In a short time the two men were seated at the table. Outside the sun apparently was also taking a vacation and it was gloomy and grey. While they were eating a light snow started to fall. As Steve looked out at the cold scene, he shivered. Gregg chuckled then said “I agree. Looks like an indoor day. We are here for another week, so we can put our ski lessons off another day.” Steve said “You are not disappointed?” Gregg shook his head. “Nah. I’m still kind of sore from digging out the car anyway and stiff from the cold cabin.” Steve said “Well what will we do inside?” Gregg said “The resort has plenty. They have a restaurant and bar; a game room, even an indoor heated pool. Of course I prefer swimming in the nude but I doubt the staff or other guests would want to see me skinny dip. It might upset them.” Gregg smiled at the somewhat flushed look on Steve’s face. “Sorry, didn’t mean to embarrass you.” Steve couldn’t say that what was on his mind that was embarrassing was the image in his head of Gregg swimming buck naked in the heated steamy water. He tried to focus on a less erotic image before speaking. “A day just enjoying the indoor amenities would be wonderful.” “Cool!” Gregg said. They finished the rest of the meal at a leisurely pace then shared the kitchen duties to get the meal cleaned up.
The two decided to dress and take a walk over to the main part of the resort. After getting Misty settled, they packed Gregg’s back pack with their swim trunks and some towels in anticipation for a dip in the pool later. Their first stop was the game room which was fairly large with a couple of pool tables, a ping pong table, some video games and several tables set up for chess/checkers or other board games. There was even a juke box in the corner and Steve filled it with change so it would accompany their other entertainment. The two decided to give the ping pong table a whirl first but since neither one of them was very good at the game, most of their efforts led to missed shots and lots of laughter. Next they moved on to the pool table which they both were quite experienced at. A good number of games later Gregg came out the victor by a rather narrow margin. By now it was early afternoon and Gregg stated a dip in the pool would help stretch his sore muscles and burn off some of the calories that he had consumed in the last two days. Fortunately the pool house was connected to the game room by a heated hallway so they did not have to brave the chilly wind and blowing snowflakes. They undressed in the locker room and spent the next hour swimming slow laps in the delightful warm water. Since it was still early in the ski season the resort was not overly busy and at that point the two had the pool to themselves. Finally Steve announced he was getting hungry which Gregg teased him “Yes my little bottomless pit. Where does your skinny little self put all that food?” But after another quarter of an hour, Gregg realized his stomach was growling as well as the two were getting a bit tired. They got out of the pool and both had a quick shower before getting dress. They opted for a trip to the restaurant for a late lunch early supper. The meal was just as delicious and varied as the night before, consisting of thick creamy potato soup and another fresh leafy salad, followed by Filet Mignon for Gregg and Teriyaki Salmon for Steve. They finished up the meal with Raspberry Cheesecake smothered in whip cream and chocolate syrup. Gregg patted his belly and sighed “Herbie will not be thrilled that I am not watching my diet.” It was true that Gregg’s weight was often the source of jokes. Steve hated to hear them even though the rock roll fashion of extremely tight pants and open shirts did often reveal a bit of a muffin top on Gregg. However the female fans never seemed to be concerned, they were interested in the bulges lower down in the white pants. The two walked back to the room after purchasing a few things for an evening snack from the gift shop. When they got back to the room, they both collapsed on the couch. Gregg laughed “So we are getting old I guess, another evening watching TV.” Steve said “Sounds good. Think I may put my jammies on to be comfortable.” Gregg followed suit and soon they two were lounging on the big couch with Misty tucked between them enjoying the warmth and the company. Gregg was quiet for a while before suddenly blurting out “You and Misty can stay with me again tonight if you want.” Steve smiled and said “That would be nice.” Gregg drew a sigh of relief at the answer. At least the comment didn’t freak Steve out or make him uncomfortable. A few situation comedies later the two men decided to turn in early in case the weather would be good for skiing the next day. They had a quick snack of some Oreos and hot chocolate while they spent a bit of time admiring the night sky and view of the mountains. But they were both yawning quite a bit so they moved to the large cozy bed. Misty made her final trip the litter box before crawling into bed with Steve and Gregg. But tonight she had a bit less room due to Steve voluntarily moving closer to the keyboardist. After saying good night it was not long before all three drifted off to sleep.
The next day dawned bright with a glorious sunrise. Gregg and Steve were up early and decided to dress and go to breakfast at the hotel restaurant before hitting the slopes. They finished the meal quickly and soon were at the rental hut fitting Steve for a set of skis. When they got to the top of the beginners slope Gregg started giving Steve instructions.
Steve had tried skiing a few times before when he was a teenager. He was not sure he could get the hang of it but Gregg was so excited by the idea he hated to not try. After a few nervous false starts Steve actually managed to make it a ways down the hill before he took a tumble. “OOO” he squeaked as he landed on his butt. Gregg helped him to his feet and brushed him off. Steve got his breath and started again but a quick turn landed him back in a heap. Gregg had to laugh even though the singer looked so pitiful that his heart went out to him. He stood him on his feet once more and said “Are you OK?” Steve said “Yeah I am fine!” He looked frustrated though and Gregg said gently “Are you sure you want to do this?” Steve nodded, “I will try again!” The two of them went back up the hill a bit and Steve started down a third time. This run went fairly well till some obstacle tripped the tiny man up again. Only this time poor Steve went airborne and landed with a not so elegant thump. Fortunately a big pile of snow cushioned his fall. “Steve!” Gregg yelled and ran over to him. “Steve moaned and the keyboardist’s green eyes were full of worry. “Oh God, Steve lie still! Is anything broken?” Did you hit your head?” Steve moved his arms and legs and whimpered “I don’t think so but I don’t want to do this again! I am scared.” Gregg knelt down beside Steve and said “Steve, I thought you wanted to learn to ski?” Steve said “I am just clumsy, I have never been athletic. But you are strong and you like the outdoors and adventure. I didn’t want to let you down.” “Steve!” Gregg said, a bit exasperated but feeling very sad. “Steve you don’t have to worry about letting me down. I want you to be happy on this trip too. There are other things to do beside ski that we can do outdoors. I would never want you to do anything that you might get hurt at.” Steve sniffed “But it is a ski resort!” “They have horses, riding trails, hiking trails and sledding hills!” Steve’s eyes lit up at the word horses. “Oh I miss riding so much!” Gregg laughed and said “Well let’s skip this and turn the ski’s back in.” Before the two stood up Gregg looked Steve over to make sure he definitely wasn’t hurt. They returned the skis and decided to go back to the room so Steve could get into dry clothes. “Do you want to just rest the remainder of the day? You have had a pretty tough time!” “No, I would like to go riding if we can!” Since it was still early in the day Gregg packed some snacks in his backpack and a thermos of hot tea. They then heading off, driving the short distance to where the stables were. Steve instantly fell in love with a beautiful Paint horse with dark brown and white coloring. The horse’s eyes were large and gentle. Gregg found a gorgeous all black beauty, with the unusual name of Arabella. The gorgeous mare seemed very interested in seeing if Gregg had any snacks in the back pack for her. With both men firmly planted in the saddle, they were soon off meandering in the woods; enjoying all the beauty the winter day had to offer. The woods glistened white and the sky was a deep azure blue. Steve looked up at the long bare limbs of the trees shining black against the blue. The day passed rather quickly and peacefully. In the early afternoon they stopped for lunch. They found a clearing by a small water fall, predominately covered by ice. The contrast of the white snow and the dark appearance of the water was quite lovely. Gregg took quite a few photos including one of Steve standing by the water with the gentle Paint nuzzling his head. When Steve heard the camera shutter click he turned and smiled at Gregg. “That will be beautiful!” Gregg told him referring to the pictures he just took. Checking his watch Gregg said “time to head back.” He helped Steve get back on Rudy before mounting his own animal. Steve looked over at Gregg and said “You look so at home on that horse in this snow. I just can picture you as a Viking warrior riding into battle to conquer some new land.” Gregg laughed softly “Well I guess that fits considering I am Norwegian.” He turned Arabella back towards the stable and said “Come on Steve, tonight, I will give you a massage.”
By time they reached the stable the sun was beginning to set. Steve seemed to not want to say goodbye to Rudy. He petted him vigorously and even fed him some treats the stable attendant gave him. Gregg watched Steve thinking what a gentle person he was. How kind he treated not just people but animals as well. It was one of the traits Gregg loved most about the singer. He felt sad at that moment that Steve probably would never return his feelings. He sighed but said keeping his voice bright “come on Steve. We will come back and see him again before we go home; maybe take another ride.”
Back at the hotel they opted for a room service supper and a soak in the Jacuzzi. Gregg told Steve “I will order food while you go get in the tub.” Steve was quiet a minute then said “We both can fit in the Jacuzzi. It is built for two people.” Gregg actually blushed and said “Ah, maybe that is not such a good idea.” Understanding instantly what Gregg meant he said, “it is OK Gregg, it will be fine!” Without another word he went in and started filling the bathtub. He called out “order the food to come about 630 PM so we have time to soak.” Gregg did as he was told. Being sore from the long ride, he was more than happy to sink into the tub. He leaned back against the wall and enjoyed the steam and heat. Sitting on the opposite side of the tub, Steve relaxed and seemed at ease. Misty even came into the bathroom and sat on the side of the tub. She made both men laugh as she batted at the bubbles. The grey kitty seemed confused and perturbed as the soapy orbs disappeared, resulting in her having a damp paw. Finally she got tired of the game and trotted off to the main room to find some new amusement. Steve smiled and said “I had a really nice day Gregg, thanks for being so kind and understanding.” “My pleasure Steve.” They looked at each other quietly for a minute then leaned closer to each other. Hesitant and but seeming to be thinking the same thing, their mouths were close quite to each other when they were suddenly interrupted by a knock at the door. “Room service” a voice called. They pulled apart as Gregg rapidly climbed out of the tub looking for his towel and robe. Finding it quickly he responded to the man, telling him to wait a minute, while he got himself presentable. He was aware of Steve following suit as the keyboardist went to the door to retrieve the food and pay the waiter.
Not too long afterward the two were enjoying another delicious feast. Gregg had ordered another expensive bottle of Italian wine, so they were both indulging in quite a few glasses of the vino. The radio played softly in the background but neither man talked much. They seemed to each be lost in thought. The two finished the rich desert of chocolate brownies heaped with ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Gregg watched Steve lick the whipped cream off his spoon and was amazed at how the singer could even make eating look incredibly erotic. Steve leaned back in the chair, taking note of how the keyboardist was staring at him. The wine was hitting him quite hard. He didn’t feel drunk but he was warm, relaxed and content. A song came on the radio and Steve was suddenly seized with an idea. He jumped up and went over to Gregg. He grabbed the keyboardist’s hand and at Gregg’s confused look stated. “Let’s dance!” Gregg kind of shook his head and Steve said “Come on. I want to.” Gregg allowed the singer to pull him to his feet. Gregg was used to leading on the dance floor so he didn’t quite know how to start with Steve. Apparently the petite brunette had the same issue because they both fumbled with their hand positions then laughed nervously. But Steve was soon tucked into the much larger man’s arms, his head resting against him as they slow danced around the suite.
All alone at the end of the evening
“I love this song,” Steve said. “It always makes me think of people like us… on the road, different place every day, different people. It can be so empty when the show is over and the fans are gone. But we always keep hoping that true love will find us. That our dreams will come true, through that one person who will stick by us no matter what.”
The two men looked at each other intently then slowly, they kissed. It was gentle and sweet like two shy school kids. Steve maneuvered his dance partner leading him to the bedroom. He pulled Gregg down on the bed. Gregg was trembling and giddy from a combination of love, desire, and fear. He pulled the belt loose that fastened Steve’s robe and opened it to reveal the singer had nothing else on underneath. He let out a gasp then said, “I love you so much Steve. I think I have loved you since the first day you came into my life, when Herbie brought you to us and said you were going to be our singer.” Steve’s body was so beautiful; lithe and long legged, like a gazelle. But it seemed to Gregg like he may break the tiny man with his own much more considerable weight. He leaned again kissing Steve with more intensity and was delighted to feel the young man respond. He couldn’t believe his dream was coming true. He reached down to stroke Steve’s hair. “You are so beautiful” he said breathlessly. Suddenly it was like a cloud blotted out the sun. He remembered Steve’s rejection of him three nights ago in the cabin. He pushed up off the bed and quickly left the room with a puzzled Steve looking after him. Overwhelmed and feeling humiliated, Gregg ran out of the hotel room into the cold night air. It isn’t real he said to himself. It is not real! Steve has just had too much wine or he feels obligated because he is grateful for me taking care of him! That is all! He can’t possibly feel like that about me. Tears spilled over as he felt unable to control them. Running down his face, they felt almost like slivers of ice in the cold.
At that moment he felt a hand on his arm, he turned and wasn’t surprised to see Steve standing there. The tiny brunette was shivering hard and he said “Please come in Gregg, please.” Gregg opened his mouth to protest but only a choked sob came out. He took a deep breath and tried again “I am sorry Steve, I can’t help how I feel and I know you don’t feel the same. I am taking you home in the morning. I can’t be this close to you.”
Steve looked at him and said “Gregg it is alright. Come back into the room. You are going to get pneumonia.” Steve sighed then added “I am going to get pneumonia.” At that line Gregg snapped back to reality. He turned and allowed Steve to hustle him into the room. They were both quite chilled. Steve locked the door behind him and said to Gregg “Now come with me.” He tried to lead Gregg back into the bedroom but he stopped saying “No Steve.” Steve looked at him. He had to make the keyboardist understand him. He went up and wrapped his arms around the taller man looking up into his face. He forced Gregg to make eye contact with him. He told Gregg “I love you too, Gregg. I think I have always or at least for a very long time. Like I said, when we were dancing. We both are looking for someone to stay by our side and love us forever. But we won’t find that in a groupie or on the road. I always thought it would be with a woman, but now I can see so clearly my future is with you. You are the one I have been waiting for. Come now let’s get in bed and get warm. Your skin is like ice. We need to get you warmed up.” This time, Gregg didn’t resist. The two settled into the bed. They removed their clothing along the way. Under the covers, they clung to each other allowing their body heat to warm them. And with their body heat rose their desire. They soon found their way to looking at each other’s bodies; touching, exploring, in a whole new way. And finally joining one another intimately; not just physically, but with their souls; their whole being. They become lovers. Then it was quiet and still in the room with the room services plates left outside, the lights turned off, and Misty snuggled beside the spooning couple. As the night deepened, the two slept deeply and securely, knowing that this was just the beginning of an amazing new chapter in their lives. One they knew would last forever.
