Day 19
Cone walked out of the station with Paige holding his hand. They had stayed up all night working out every detail of the plan to save Raiden. They still were unaware that Deryck had called and had been looking for them the entire night. Deryck knew who the kidnapper was; he was sure of it. It was now almost six o’clock as Paige trembled in the car as Cone started it up. She was terrified. She took his hand and began to fidget with his fingers in hers. He turned to her gazing into her eyes. They both knew what they had to do. Things were going to turn out all right, they were both sure of it.
“Paige, we’re gonna get him back.” He stated softly. Paige turned to the window. She couldn’t help but think this was her fault to begin with.
“Had I of listened to him none of this would have ever happened. Raiden knew, Jay. Somehow he knew.” She stated her eyes beginning to brim with tears. Cone kissed her hand, which caused her to turn her gaze back to him.
“It wouldn’t have changed things. This isn’t either of our faults.” He stated as he began to drive. He knew Paige believed him. The drive seemed to take almost years. Things always seem to take longer when you want them to go by so much faster. Soon the Coliseum was in plain site. Paige squeezed Cone’s had and closed her eyes. She knew her son was in that building just waiting for her; waiting for his family to save him. Cone parked the car and turned towards her. “You ready to do this?” He asked softly like she had the day Cone had to go to court after being shot. She nodded and they both stepped out of the car. They slowly walked towards the Coliseum gates and wondered how the kidnapper had gotten through all the security and such. They walked to the gate and a man came up to them.
“Follow me.” He stated sternly as he began to walk. Paige looked over at Cone. He nodded at her knowing what she had wanted to say. There was more then one person in on the kidnapping. The man led them through the Coliseum gates and into the Coliseum itself. He led them through the back area that Paige knew well for she had Graduated in this building years ago. He led them onto a small stage where a woman’s back was facing them and Raiden sat tied to a chair.
“Raiden!” Paige screamed causing Raiden’s head to turn and his eyes to light up. The woman soon turned around as the man grabbed hold of Paige so she wouldn’t run off to her son. Paige couldn’t believe who was standing in front of her. Cone was the first to speak up.
“Clarissa!” He screamed. It was unbelievable. “No! How, why! What the fuck!” He yelled as she began to walk towards him.
“I see you’ve figured out the riddle, Paige.” She stopped a few feet away from them all. “Don, for heaven’s sake let the woman go. She’s brought the barter.” Clarissa stated smiling at Cone. Their plan wasn’t going to work now. Paige stepped forward once Don had let her go.
“I thought we were rid of you.” Paige spat. She couldn’t believe any of this was reality. “I saw you behind bars! Hell Cone and I fucking put you there!” She screamed. Clarissa walked towards her as Don grabbed Cone from behind. Clarissa took Paige’s chin in her hand.
“I was but not for long. While I was there I played nice and studied up. I followed your each and every move for the last seven years. I know more about you then you’d think.” She paused.
“Damn it let her go!” Cone screamed trying to break free of Don. Clarissa did as Cone said but still stood in front of Paige.
“You see Raiden should have been mine. He would have been if it weren’t for you. I knew I had to get rid of you or turn Cone against you. I knew you’d both do anything for your son. I know you both so well. I met Don at a concert here at the Coliseum and he became fascinated with me, isn’t that right Don?” She asked him.
“Of fuck yeah.” He stated softly. Clarissa laughed slightly.
“We began to plan all of this together. All the letters in perfect couplets and the whereabouts of your son every step of the way. I watched and observed all three of you. I knew I could get into your head and under your skin, which I believe I have, by taking your only son.” Clarissa’s smile only widened as she walked slowly over to Raiden her gun in her hands. Paige looked over at Don. She noticed he had no gun. Her attention soon shot over to Raiden who was still sitting in the chair tied down with duck tape covering his mouth. Paige was furious. She began to run towards Raiden. “Oh no no, stay put dear mommy!” Clarissa shot back. “Be patient and listen to the story like a good girl.” She stated, as Paige even more furious knew she had to retaliate.
“If I’m what you want so bad then take me! Let Raiden go! He doesn’t have anything to do with this! He’s just a pawn in your attempt to try and get Cone for yourself! You want me take me!” Paige screamed. Cone had to think fast as Clarissa approached Paige her gun at her side and her finger on the trigger. He knew if she was provoked that she would shoot Paige no questions asked. Clarissa now stood in front of Paige. “You want my husband you’re gonna have to kill me. Cone’s a big boy. Even if I’m gone, if Raiden’s gone, you honestly think he’d go to you for comfort? He won’t Clarissa. If you kill me or Raiden Cone’s just gonna come back and kill you. He won’t stand by and watch his family die without getting his revenge. Things don’t work the way you want them to you psycho fucking freak!” Paige screamed and kicked Clarissa’s hand causing the gun to go flying towards Cone who, after stepping on Don’s foot causing Don to let him go, picked it up willingly. Paige smiled at him.
“What now bitch!” He screamed triumphantly. He turned on Don and motioned for him to join Clarissa on the edge of the stage. Paige walked over to Raiden and took the tape from his mouth slowly, not wanting to hurt him.
“Mommy!” He screamed as his tears fell. Paige began to untie him.
“Raiden, I’m gonna untie you.” She stated and finished untying her son from the chair. Raiden threw his arms around her neck and she hugged him back now crying herself. The cops rushed in having heard all the screaming and noticed Cone holding up the gun, which was now pointed at Clarissa and Don. The cops hand cuffed Clarissa first and then Don as Cone threw the gun to the floor and ran to his family.
“Raiden!” He screamed as he took his son in his arms. Raiden threw his arms around his father’s neck now and Cone only held him tighter. Paige was crying tears of pure happiness as Cone wrapped an arm around her. Raiden had his head laying on Cone’s chest as Paige took his small hand in hers. They had gotten through yet another obstacle together and weren’t about to ever let something like this happen again, but that’s the fun part of life. You never know what’s going to happen. As the McCaslin family exited the Coliseum Paige looked back and smiled. Clarissa was finally gone. There was no way she’d be allowed back into the publics view, not after this. She was truly insane. Cone stopped when he noticed Paige standing looking at the Coliseum. “Paige, you OK?” He asked. Raiden looked at her too.
“Mommy, come on! I wanna go home!” Raiden shouted happily. He missed his house. Paige turned back to her family and ran the short few feet to them. She threw her arm around Cone’s waist and they all began to walk. Home will always be where ever my family is. She thought to herself. She was truly right.
