Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know Orlando Bloom. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Hey everyone! I guess I'm having a "creative phase" at the moment or something. Anyways, here's the next chapter...we're getting closer to the end of it. There'S only few chapters left after this one. And they're all in my head - just ahve to write them down. I'm going on holiday tomorrow so I mightn't be able to update for a while now, so take your time for this one. ;-)
To Fanny and Emily - thanx for your reviews. And I don't know if I can provide you with a "kitschy" happy ending...I'm not that type of writer - usually, but we will see how the story develops. The characters seem to have developed their own lives and I'm losing control about them ;-)
To everybody else: Enjoy!
Chapter Ten
“Orli! Come on, hurry up. We need to get ready. Please…” She was already waiting downstairs for him. Orlando still stood in front of the mirror. He had been ready for a
while, but today was one of those days again. He didn’t want to go out, he only wanted to stay home and watch TV or a DVD or whatever, anything else, but he wanted to
be alone. “Orli!” another one of her shrill shouts. He groaned and then finally left the room. After all it was Dom’s birthday and he had to be there, better get through
with this as quick as possible.
“Alright, I’m ready to leave.” He said as he took the last steps downstairs.
“Finally.” She kissed him on the cheek. “You need longer in the bathroom than any woman I know.” He smiled at her. “You look beautiful.“ he said and he meant it.
She was wearing low waist jeans and a beautiful red tank top in the western style. It was tight and emphasized her curves. He took her hand and they went to the car.
In the car there was an awkward silence between them, that is until Louisa broke it. Why couldn’t they just sit together in silence for a while? Why did she always have to
talk? Why did she have to be there all the time? Didn’t she understand that he just needed some time for himself every once in a while? He sighed deeply. He liked
Louisa, he liked her a lot, but sometimes it just didn’t seem right to him. Sometimes she was downright annoying him – especially in times like this: When he was tired
and stressed out and just needed some rest. But no, she wouldn’t let him.
“Honey, what’s wrong with you? You’re so quiet today…”
“I’m fine, darling. Don’t worry.” He let his left hand rest on her knee to calm her down.
“Are you sure? I’m worried about you…”
“Yes, I’m sure. I’m just not in the best mood today.”
“Why not? What happened?”
“Nothing happened. I’m just…It’s just one of those days where you wake up in the morning and think that you better stay in bed all day.”
She looked puzzled. “Is your back hurting again?”
Orlando sighed again. “Yes, darling, it’s my back. Oh look, we’re there.”
He pulled into the driveway and soon they were greeted by other people – already mainly drunk ones. Orlando put on his charming smile as he entered the party he
reached for Louisa and they entered the party together.
After a while Orlando sat alone on the couch sipping on his alcohol-free cocktail. He heard Louisa giggle somewhere and got up to look for her. He spotted her hanging
on Viggo’s arm. As Viggo saw Orlando he gestured for him to come and get his girl immediately. Orlando rolled his eyes. So she was drunk again. He sighed and strolled
over to the group. “Hey!” he said cheerfully as he pulled Louisa towards him. “Hey darling.” He kissed her forehead. She smiled in return, leaned thankfully against him
and murmured something he didn’t understand. “Well, darling, it’s getting late. I think we’re heading home.”
“No…please. Let’s play.”
“No, we’re not gonna play tonight. We’re going home and you need sleep – lots of it!”
He said good-bye to his friends, thanked Dom for the invitation and dragged Louisa out. He helped her into the car, but when he entered on the driving seat she started
to cry. At first he didn’t say anything knowing that there was no reason for her behaviour except for the alcohol, but when she wouldn’t stop he decided to play it
peacefully. “Hey, darling, what’s wrong?” he asked as gently as possible. “You ignored me all night!” Louisa bursted out.
Orlando sighed deeply. So they were going to have that discussion again. “I did not ignore you, but nobody said that we have to be clinging to each other all the time.”
“No, but you ignored me. You left me all alone there.”
“You looked pretty fine when you were hanging on Viggo’s arm!”
“Oh no! Don’t tell me you’re jealous.”
“I am not jealous! I just…you went away…What was I supposed to do? Chase after you?”
“Oh shut up, Orlando! That’s why I hate parties so much, you’re always with your acting celebrity friends and then you completely forget about me and…”
“Oh come on, Louisa! You know that’s not true. You went away, you were with my acting celebrity friends and I was alone. And it’s always like that!” Orlando didn’t mean
to shout at her, but did it nevertheless. That caused Louisa to shut up – for now. But still, she went on crying.
Orlando felt guilty for shouting at her, because he knew that she just said that because she was drunk On the other hand he was sick and tired of all the fighting after
every party – it was always the same discussion. He pulled into the driveway. He hopped out of the car and then helped Louisa out as well. He dragged her into bed and
once he made sure she was asleep he went outside. He grabbed some whiskey and sat down on his veranda. He wished to talk to somebody now, and that somebody
was…well not here. She was far away, lived in a different world a different life – with a different man. He wished he could just call her and pour his heart out, but he didn’t
even know if he still had the right number. It was in moment like this that he missed her most. Moments, in which he just needed someone to listen, someone to talk to
and more than anything else: someone who understood. Orlando had been terribly homesick for the past days already and Louisa wasn’t that much of a help either. She
never understood why he missed home so much, even though he had already been here in New Zealand for more than a year now. He loved it here, it was a beautiful
country, but there was no Katie hear – and no Jamie. He had to admit that, although he and Jamie had had their difficulties, he missed his best mate. He had friends
here, great friends, but they were not his childhood friends, like Jamie and Katie were – had been.
He missed them both like hell, but what was worse for him was that he couldn’t get that kiss out of his mind. He still felt her, could still smell her when he closed his
eyes. He took a big sip of his whiskey. The liquid burned in his throat and warmed him. It soothed him to feel the tingle in his fingers, showed him that he was still alive.
Sometimes he couldn’t feel it anymore. He felt numb and worn out. He didn’t know where his relationship with Louisa was going or why he was in it. She was a nice girl
and he liked her, but there was something missing. Something was going awfully wrong in their relationship and he didn’t mean her partying and the fact that she kept
on embarrassing him in front of his friends, he missed something else. He missed Katie, and Louisa could not replace her and fill that hole that was inside his heart.
*
Orlando grabbed the towel that he had left on the couch before; he wiped the sweat of his forehead and neck. People were right when they said jogging is good to clear
your head, his head had been clear for that hour, but now? He pressed the button and listened to “three unheard messages”. The first two were Lindsay, his PA, she
reminded him on the press conference which would take place tomorrow. The third one was from Jamie. He sounded upset. His voice rose until he was shouting into the
phone, “You bastard! And liar! You fucked my fiancée! You impregnated her! You fucked up my life and told me you were my friend?! God, I hate you, bastard!”
A few moments passed until Orlando moved away from the machine and sat down on the couch. He still stared at the machine as if he could change the meaning of the
message by just wishing for it. Katie had told him. He couldn’t grasp it. What was that supposed to mean? He needed to talk to her – right now. But when he was already
at the door, he stopped and restrained himself, a shower first.
*
Katie turned around in her bed once again. What was that sound? She checked the clock on her bedside with only one eye open. She felt so sleepy, but it was already
half nine. She pulled up her cover and snuggled up again. There was that sound again – twice. Was it the doorbell? Katie yawned and got up slowly. She scratched her
head and tapped downstairs. Somebody must be in a real hurry, because the bell rang incessantly now. “Yes, yes, yes I’m right there.” She groaned and opened the
door. Only to shut it right away again. It was Orlando. What was he doing here? The door bell rang again. “Katie! Come on, open the door!” Orlando shouted. Katie
jumped back in front of the mirror. Oh my God! She looked awful. Quickly she tried to straighten her hair. Oh shit. She sighed and went back to open the door. When
she opened the door, Orlando grinned, one eyebrow raised. Katie smiled embarrassed. And only for a few seconds it was as if none of this had ever happened. She let
him come in. Orlando went straight into the kitchen. She took a deep breath, and then followed him. Oh shit, she was way too tired for this. When she entered the
kitchen Orlando glared at her. “Did you want to fuck it all up?” She had never heard him talk to her, to anyone like that. His voice was full of hate and anger. She
gasped and was about to say something, when Orlando suddenly shouted, “No! You let me talk now!” Katie stepped away from him as he was approaching her.
“Yes, I went away. I left you alone, you poor thing. But it seems that you just managed fine without me. You always knew what I felt for you, but you ignored it. I
couldn’t stand being there with you, watching you two lovebirds anymore. It made me sick to see you two together pretending everything was okay. Jamie was my best
friend and as much as I loved him, I couldn’t bear the thought of you two together. Now, I’ve lost both of you. I can understand why he hates me. But what about you?
Why are you doing this to me?”
He stood right in front of her now and pressed her against the wall. Tears were rolling down her cheeks and she whispered, her voice shaking. “Because you left me
alone.”
“You had Jamie for fuck’s sake! He would’ve killed for you! He betrayed his best friend for you.”
“His best friend?” Katie screamed and pushed him away. “Where were you when his sister died? Where were you when he started drinking? Where were you when he was
banging on my door, saying he would kill himself if I don’t let him in? Where were you…” her voice left her. “Where were you when he found out that he couldn’t have
children? Is that what a best friend does? Just leave and never call or write?”
Orlando sighed and sat down on one of the kitchen chairs.
“Where were you when I needed you?” She hesitated, but then went on. “I’ve been through all this shit alone - without you there to help me. I was there to hold his
hand during his therapy. You think you can just come back and pretend everything’s fine?”
“Katie…I”
“No, you have said what you had to say. And yes, I made mistakes one of which was that night with you.”
He stared at her.
“I had my whole life planned. Everything was perfect and then you came along…But I’m not gonna let you get away like that. You will face the consequences just like I
will. I want this child and I want you to be there for it…But leave me alone.”
For a few minutes they fell silent. Katie finally managed to control her sobs. She leaned against the wall and watched Orlando. He stood up now and approached her until
he stood right in front of her. Katie’s heart was pumping; her pulse was racing and her hands trembling. He was so close she could feel his strong body against hers, she
could smell his scent. Did he still use CK One?
Orlando wiped a strand of her hair away and then whispered, “I will be there for this child – and for you. I won’t leave you alone again, I promise. And maybe one day
you’ll be able to forgive me. I know you will…”
He smiled and turned away from her towards the door and left.

When Orlando walked away from the house he felt as if he was wakling on clouds. Seeing her that sleepy in her jemmies had reminded him on the old days, where he
had always thrown stones at her window if he needed to talk to her at night. He sighed. Maybe it wasn’t all lost for good, maybe there was still a chance for them, after
all they were going to raise a child together. Oh my God, the child. He was going to be a father. He would have a child with Katie, a tiny Katie, or maybe an Orlando
Junior. He stood on the sidewalk wondering what the little kid would look like when suddenly an old lady approached him and asked him if everything was okay. He just
smiled at her “Just perfect, my lady, ‘cos I’m gonna be a father in a few months!” and then went on.
