Split Decision
“He better not be using me to try and get rid of him, I swear I’ll break his arm if he is!” Kat paced back and forth with her fists clenched. Her next match was aggravating her to no end and she desperately hoped she was wrong about its meaning.
Benoit was infuriated as he slammed his fist against one of the lockers, making a deep dent in the metal. He had his suspicions about the match and agreed with Kat, “You can break his arm after I’ve broken his leg!” He was tired of Eric using them to carry out his dirty work; he should try Evolution if that’s what he was after.
None of them wanted this match to be a vengeance match because Eugene helped Benoit retain his title. If Eric thought Kat was going to be his pawn, he would be severally disappointed. Even thought Kat had never really spoken to Eugene except on few occasions, she still considered him a friend.
Edge and Jericho were keeping their distance from the two for fear they might accidentally set them off, which was easy to do when they were this aggravated. They both contemplated leaving the locker room but thought better of it, not wanting to leave their companions in case they ever decided to calm down.
Kat stopped and took a swing at her locker, making Jericho and Edge jump as the room was filled with a hollow bang. She pulled her fist away and ignored the stinging pain as she leaned against the dented locker to think.
It wasn’t long before she walked out of the locker room and went for Bischoff’s office, no one bothered to stop her when they saw the angered look on her face. It would have been like trying to reason with Kane while he was in one of his destructive moods. They all wanted to keep their bodies intact.
Eric nearly dropped his glass of liquor when the door to his office flew open and crashed heavily against the wall. He turned around expecting to see and infuriated Hunter or Kane, instead meeting the gaze of one very enraged Kat.
“Kat?!” he didn’t even have time to ask what the hell the meaning of this was when she growled angrily and gave away her reason for being there.
“If this is another attempt to get your nephew off RAW, I will NOT be part of it!!” her eyes blazed dangerously as she stared at him and waited for an answer. Eric knew she had a temper that rivaled Kane’s, but he never thought he would be on the receiving end of it so soon.
He backed away slightly and held his hands up as if to defend himself, “Whoa, easy Kat! I swear you have it all wrong!” he waited to see if this would calm her down, and was only given a glare to tell him to go on. “You both have rather impressive records for being relatively new, and people have been wanting to see a match between you two. I swear that’s all it is Kat, no revenge.”
For once Eric was telling the truth, he really didn’t plan this match as a vengeance match. He had a better plan in the works as it was, he didn’t need to use her yet. Her expression never softened as she clenched her jaw and shook her head when she looked away from him.
“I swear that if you’re lying to me, I will make things a living hell for you...” she didn’t even need to look at him to know his expression.
Eric swallowed hard and let out a sigh, putting his hands down for the first time since she had walked in. He sat on his desk and took a sip from the glass he still held, “I don’t question that, I know you could. I’m not lying to you. Not yet.” Eric wasn’t sure if it was wise to have told her that last part, but she didn’t react to it and he was inwardly grateful.
Kat glanced at him once more and turned to leave as Hunter came striding through the door, looking as determined as ever. He looked at Bischoff, “We need to talk...” that was the only thing Kat heard as she closed the door behind her.
Her anger didn’t totally dissipate with his small reassurance, but she wasn’t going to let this mood carry over to her match. She didn’t want to use that anger on Eugene.
“Kat!!!” she quickly found herself being picked up and given a rather large hug by Eugene while Jericho and Edge chuckled. Benoit eased Eugene into letting her, smiling when Kat patted Eugene on the back and gave him a friendly smile.
“Hey Eugene, ready for our match tonight?” she looked at him curiously when he bit his fingernails in frustration. Kat looked at Benoit who shrugged, not knowing what he was nervous about either.
Eugene whined slightly, “I’m not supposed to fight girls...” he looked at the floor while the others chuckled silently. Kat smiled and shook her head, knowing that was probably the teachings of William showing through.
“It’s ok Eugene, you can fight me in a match. But I’ll warn you, it might get kind of rough out there.” This seemed to reassure Eugene as he clapped his hands excitedly and Kat smiled warmly.
Benoit chuckled and nodded, “It’ll be like our match Eugene. Your friends but she’s going to try and win that match, ok?” Benoit watched Eugene to make sure he understood, which he nodded that he did.
“Yeah! It’s going to be fun!” Eugene smiled widely then got quiet again as he looked at the floor. “Uhm...Kat...can I ask you something?” Kat nodded and wondered what he could be worried about now, “Kane isn’t going to come out and hurt me is he?”
This made Kat laugh a bit and she shook her head, “No Eugene, Kane isn’t going to try and hurt you. I promise.” William Regal stood in the doorway and had a look of doubt on his face.
He shifted slightly and cleared his throat, “Well I should hope he has more dignity then that, though I doubt it. Come on Eugene, we still need to get you ready.” William motioned for Eugene to follow him as Eugene hugged Benoit and Kat again then left, asking William if Kane has sex with Kat and that’s why he likes her so much.
Jericho and Edge burst into laughter as Kat blushed heavily, “Seems even Eugene knows you and Kane have a thing for each other! I’d hate to think what William might tell Eugene!” Chris was holding his sides from laughing so hard as Edge tried to settle down, only to fall on the floor in another fit of laughter.
Benoit held back his laughter and looked at Kat, “So did Bischoff tell you anything?” He was still suspicious of the match and wanted to know what she was told. Hopefully he could determine if she was being lied to.
Kat shrugged, “He said it was because we both had impressive records already, and that a match had basically been begged out of him by fans and such. I’m not sure if I believe that completely...I know there has to be more to it.” She finished putting her gear on and leaned against a locker as Benoit tried to figure things out.
He sighed and shook his head in defeat, “What he said was true, a lot of people have been wanting to see a match like that...I agree. There probably is more to it that we just don’t know about yet.” Benoit hoped they found out soon before it was too late to stop Bischoff’s plans.
“Yeah...well I better get going, the match is going to start soon.” They all wished her luck as she left the locker room and headed for the entrance under the Titatron. The worry had returned slightly and she did everything to try and shake off the feeling.
She shook her head and mentally prepared herself as she walked onto the ramp and her theme hit. For some reason they had a tough time finding her a theme until she suggested one of her favorite songs, New Disease, by Spineshank. It was agreed that this would be here theme and she couldn’t have chosen any better.
It fit her perfectly.
The pyros blasted behind her and created a silhouette as she walked down and entered the ring, taking off her leather jacket and placing it on the edge of the ring. She hoisted herself up and sat on the top turnbuckle as she waited patiently for her opponent.
It didn’t take long for Eugene’s theme to play and he walked out and waved at the fans, William Regal at his side and waiting for his protégé to walk down to the ring. He climbed in and gave Kat another hug, which caused her to lose her balance as he picked her up and placed her on the mat. William got him to let go and rolled his eyes as Kat laughed warmly, the worries still in the back of her mind as the ref came over to get things started.
William left the ring and went backstage and the two waited for the bell, shaking hands in good sportsmanship and the bell finally sounded. They both circled each other and sized one another up, watching the others movements and waiting for an opening.
Eugene moved first as he lunged forward and got her in a headlock, surprising her with the speed he showed at times. Kat elbowed him in the ribs to get him off balance and slipped out of his grip, grabbing his arm and twisting it behind him painfully.
He proved to be stronger then she thought as he threw her back and she landed heavily against the ropes. She smirked and went in to try and take out his legs as she did a sweep and managed to take one out from under him. Eugene fell to one knee and Kat quickly got him into a sleeper hold, which he grabbed her arms and tried to pull her off.
A dull pain swept the back of Kats head and she released her hold, turning around to get smacked in the face with a chair and she fell to the ground. Eugene stood up and looked down at her then looked up to see Ric Flair and Triple H, who were glaring at Eugene with malice in his eyes.
Eugene pointed at Hunter and told him he was a no good liar as he eyed Ric with the chair, understanding that he was going to use it on him like he did to Kat. Hunter dove at Eugene and pinned him against the ring post, delivering blow after blow to Eugene as he tried to defend himself and pushed hunter off.
Ric smiled evilly and was about to take a shot at Eugene when he felt Kat jump on his back and drag him down to the mat, where she copied Hunter and sent blow after blow to The Nature Boy’s face. Ric retaliated by grabbing the chair and bring it down over her head, shoving her off and going to help Hunter with Eugene.
He managed a few successful blows before Eugene started to get angry and put the two in their place. He clotheslined them repeatedly and delivered a Rock Bottom to Ric and did the Stunner on Hunter. They wouldn’t be taken down so easily and stood back up, Hunter going after Eugene and putting him on the defensive while Kat managed to get back up and take on Ric.
The Nature Boy gave her a hard time as he kept taking swings with the chair to make her back off. Somehow she managed to come down face-first into the mat, Eugene tried to deliver a dropkick to Hunter and he sidestepped which caused Eugene to connect with Kats neck and the back of her head.
Eugene tried to make sure she was ok but was assaulted by Hunter, who seemed relentless in punishing Eugene for costing him the Heavyweight Championship. Ric saw his opportunity and wasted no time in throwing the steel steps over the ropes, intent on bringing them down on the struggling form of Kat.
Ric picked them up and was about to deliver the crushing blow when he felt a hard kick to the base of his spine, causing him to drop the steps on himself as he turned to meet the enraged form of Kane.
The big man moved towards Ric who backed up in a combination of fear and shock as he tried to get the attention of Hunter. It was no use, as Hunter continued to grapple with Eugene who seemed to be gaining the upper hand.
Ric tried to battle back the Big Red Monster but he might as well have been punching a cement wall, none of his blows seemed to have any impact on Kane. His hand shot out and latched onto Ric’s throat who tried to break Kane’s hold, only to be lifted up and slammed down onto the mat where he received massive kicks o the face.
Satisfied that The Nature Boy wouldn’t pose any more of a problem, he turned to Eugene who had thrown hunter into the security rail and kept The Game busy. Kane growled and made his way over to Kat, who managed to get to her knees and looked towards her rescuer.
She stared in disbelief as Kane made his way to her side and helped her up. He looked down at her with a grin, “Still getting into trouble I see?” he held easily as she let the situation register with her brain.
Kane just came to save her, but why?
“Not that I’m ungrateful or anything...but why are you here?” Kat looked into the eyes of Kane who only chuckled demonically at the question and glanced behind him at the slightly stirring Ric Flair.
He turned her so that they were now face-to-face, “It was a split decision, get revenge on Hunter and Ric...or ask you out to dinner. Decided I would do both.” His grinned widened as she looked up at him with a confused expression. He knew what was going through her mind; why had he helped her, was he starting to trust her, was this a date?
He thought he would add a little more to the confusion as he leaned down and kissed her deeply, the crowed cheering wildly as he drew it out. When he pulled away Kat was left speechless, her brain was filled with questions but she couldn’t come to ask any of them.
She watched him move past and exit the ring, leaving her in a state of complete confusion. He assumed she would accept his offer. Not that it mattered, he would have been right. Yet she had no clue when or where this supposed dinner would take place, and was even more puzzled about the kiss she just received.
Kat remembered Eugene was still battling with Hunter and looked for him, finding him grinning at her then looking over at Kane as he disappeared. It wasn’t long before they left Hunter and Ric on the arena floor and went backstage. Eugene insisted that she was going on a date with the Big Red Monster, and Kat wondered if he was right.
William came and retrieved Eugene while Kat walked back to the locker where the trio turned to her with wide smiles. Edge stood up and thrust a piece of paper towards her, when she opened it a date and time was written on it as well as a small message.
He would pick her up late, and to dress comfortably.
Kane sat in his locker room and grinned to himself. It went perfectly. He had gotten a small revenge on Hunter and Ric, and asked Kat out at the same time. He also knew that she wasn’t even close to guessing the real reason for the dinner, and that’s the way he wanted it.
What better way to find out if he could trust her then to get her away from her friends and into a more secluded environment with him, yet also make it slightly more comfortable for the both of them by enjoying some music and food.
The kiss was added to throw her off, to make her question his intentions. It worked just as he planned, and was also slightly enjoyable. He knew of the rumors that had spread about him, and didn’t care what would come from this.
At least it gave him another shot.
If he couldn’t make it work with Lita, maybe Kat was the person he needed.
