Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know Gackt. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
GOMEN NASAI MINNA-SAN! I'm soooooooo sorry it's taken me so long to update again! But thankfully, today being Gackt-sama's birthday, I was determined to have at least one new chapter up, as a gift to my fellow DEARS.
Chapter 9: Complications Arise
“You’ll only find despair if you love her.”
A face haunted his dreams that night. A face that he had not dreamt of in over 150 years. He could see himself racing to get to her. Trying to get to her in time before it was too late. He remembered the pain and the fear as he had yelled her name, rushing into the room.
“Giselle!”
Gackt was breathing heavily as he woke from his nightmare. No. not a nightmare. They were his own memories. He ran his hands through his hair, still panting in shock. Why? Why now after all this time was he remembering her? He hadn’t thought about the girl for almost two centuries. Sighing a bit, now that he had calmed down enough, he got out of his bed and walked over to the window. He pressed his forehead against the cool glass, still breathing a bit heavily.
“Giselle…” He whispered softly to himself. He was ready to sink into a despair of painful memories when he opened the window, the sweet scent of roses filling the air and calming him so quickly. A soft smile crossed his lips, recalling Quinn’s sweet and gentle smile in his mind. Still, he could not totally forget the other woman. After about five minutes, he shut the window and went back to bed. He did not enter a dream this time, sweet or otherwise.
***********************
Quinn woke up slightly disorientated that morning, feeling as if she should be remembering something important. Sitting up in bed, she dazedly looked around her hotel room before she spotted the notebook on her night-stand. ‘Oh right…’ she thought, picking it up, ‘Gakuto-sama bought this for me’. She blushed from the memory of yesterday’s ‘adventure’. Gackt had taken her to his favorite spots in Tokyo. He had continually tried to buy things for her throughout the whole day, declaring she was the type of woman who deserved to be spoiled. And despite her best efforts to discourage the vampire from the action, she was positive that he probably spent a nearly a small fortune on her.
In the end, she had given in and grabbed the violet notebook with slight reluctance. Quinn wasn’t going to lie to herself, the fact that Gakuto-sama wanted to spoil her was quite charming, she just wished that he didn’t feel compelled to spoil her with an amethyst ring that cost about the same amount she made within four months.
Glancing at the ring that was still on her right hand, she felt herself both smiling and blushing as she remembered how the idol insist that he be allowed to buy her something that cost more than $5-10 dollars. She had allowed the notebook because she assured him she could use it for her job, and purple was one of her favorite colors. And along with a few anime keychains and lunch, she didn't let him spend that much on her aside from the ring. The thin band was pure gold and the jewel itself was a deep violet color that was almost a perfect match for the notebook.
Glancing down at her phone, she began internally debating whether or not she should call him. Quinn wanted to see him again, but the concert was coming up. He had stated before that he was busy, in passing, yes, but he did say that. Maybe it Gakuto-sama dropping a hint, telling her to give him some space. Or maybe it was his way of informing her that he wouldn’t be able to go places with her as often as he liked. She silently cursed herself for agreeing to watch all those chick-flicks with Allen and Mimi two nights ago. 'Watching so many in one sitting has me over-analyzing things' she thought as she allowed herself to fall back into the pillows. She began to hum to herself, wondering why she hadn't had a 'good dream' like she usually had been having lately. In fact, the dream she had the night before was just short of a nightmare. A woman with long black hair like ebony and beautiful, deep green eyes like emeralds had shown up in her dream. She had been dressed in all black, in a dress that must have been Victorian era styled. While she'd had a few weird dreams about other women before, this one was different. This woman glared at her with anger and jealousy.
"His heart belongs to me. I will not let him be with anyone else."
Quinn had to admit, it was a very strange dream for her to have. Sure she had dreamed of people in Victorian dress, but that was because she had read at least two Victorian era novels in a day. She had never dreamt of a lovely, but creepy, woman talking to her. The young woman looked over at her phone again. ‘Maybe I should call him…’ she thought. ‘He could have had a similar one.’ She had nearly made up her mind when Allen bursted in, causing her to yelp with surprise and fall from the bed. "Allen... whatever it is, it had better be important..." She growled, picking herself up off the ground.
“Mimi’s on the phone. She’s having a panic attack of some sort.” Allen said calmly, holding out his phone for Quinn.
“Why the hell didn’t she just call me…?” She asked to no one in particular, snatching the phone from Allen’s hands, “Hello?”
“Kuinnu-chan! It’s a disaster!!” Mimi wailed on her end. “What-? What’s wrong?” Quinn replied, clearly confused. “I can’t decide on my wedding dress!!” Mimi choked out.
“Uh…” Was the intelligent response Quinn came up with. “I need you to come down to the bridal salon stat!! Normally I would call You-kun, but it’s bad luck!”
"Mimi-chan, why do I need to come? I'm not going to be here for the actual wedding, sadly." The blonde said as she kicked Allen out of her room so she could get dressed and try and help her friend. “Please Kuinnu-chan! Please, please, please, please, please-“ Mimi begged over the phone.
“Are you really that indecisive at the moment?!” Quinn shouted over Mimi’s pleading, disbelief lacing her voice. In all her years of knowing Mimi, she had rarely seen her unable to make an executive decision. The last time this had happen was when she was trying to figure out which cat to adopt from the animal shelter.
“If I do not pick the right dress, the whole wedding is going to go to hell!” The Japanese girl whined to her American friend.
“I don’t think that logic works.” Quinn said, rubbing her temple.
“Please! I need an opinion that doesn’t belong to me or my future mother-in-law!”
The American woman sighed and finally relented. "Fine. But knowing you, you'll ask for my opinion, then want me to get a dress of my own." She said, covering part of the phone. "ALLEN! Call Michael and tell him we're gonna need a longer extension on the trip!"
“OKAY!! Yes!” Allen shouted back.“Where is this place?” Quinn asked, shoving on her shoes and grabbing her purse. Mimi gave out a cry of joy and gave Quinn the address. There was one thing Quinn forgot though as she headed out the hotel, and that was she was on Allen’s cell phone; not hers.
****************
Now this was strange. He had called her three times already, and she hadn’t bothered to pick up even once. Was Quinn ignoring him? Was she upset that he had pestered her about buying her the ring? Maybe she was busy. It was driving Gackt crazy. He wanted to talk to her so bad thanks to that dream and now he couldn’t get in contact with her. Briefly, the idea that she could be hurt, lying in a hospital bed came into his mind before he violently shoved the idea out of his head.
"Oi! Gackt-san! Are you ready to continue rehearsal?" Chacha asked the idol, offering him a bottled water. Noticing that the vampire seemed worried and a bit confused, his friend noticed the phone in his hands. "Doushite?"
“What the hell did I do wrong…?” Gackt muttered to himself, lightly banging his forehead repeatedly on the wall in front of him.
“Anou….Gackt-san?” Chacha waved his hand in the vampire’s line of sight, partly trying to see if he was aware of the world beyond his mind at the moment.
“I’m going to try again,” Gackt mumbled to himself, dialing Quinn’s number, praying to whatever higher-up and deity that existed that SOMEONE picked up the damned phone.
"Ummm.... hello?" A voice finally answered this time. But it wasn't Quinn. Far from it. This voice was clearly male, and had a strong British accent to it. "Or uh... what was it...? Moshi moshi?"
“Allen, right?" Gackt was now depressed, why did it have to be her friend?
"Yeah?" Came the timid reply on the other end.
“Where’s Kuinnu-chan?” Gackt asked calmly.
“Um… She out right now. It’s a Mimi emergency.” Allen replied. Gackt could tell he was frightening the British boy, but he really didn't care at the moment. "And she didn't take her phone?"
"She took mine. See, Mimi called my phone and begged her to go to the bridal salon to help her pick out the dress she wanted for the wedding. And Quinn was reluctant to go but she just left a few minutes ago. And I guess she forgot that she had my phone on her rather than her own." Allen said.
Gackt let out a frustrated sigh. If Mimi wasn't engaged to one of his closest friends, he seriously would entertain thoughts of her becoming his next meal. "Can you tell her I called?"
"I can give you my number." The British man offered. The idol wasn't even going to comment on the awkward statement. "Yeah. Sure. Fine."
"She probably wants any sort of distraction at the moment, anyway," Allen mumbled before giving Gackt the number to the cell phone.
"Gackt-san, we need to continue in about five to ten minutes." Chacha said. "We've taken a long enough break already." "Two minutes." Gackt said quickly as he dialed the number.
"I'll let them know we'll be ready in ten." Chacha said, walking away.
"Come on, come on...." Gackt muttered impatiently as listened to the too familiar ring-tone. "Hello?" Quinn asked as she pulled out the cellphone that she noticed wasn't her own. It was then that she realized that she must've left hers back at her hotel room and she had walked out with Allen's.
Gackt let a silent cry of relief at hearing his angel's voice, "Kuinnu-chan, you know this is the fifth time I've tried to call you?"
"Wha-?! Oh my god! I'm so sorry! I left my phone at the hotel and-" She began to apologize quickly. "I know, don't worry. Your friend gave me this number," Gackt chuckled. "I think I scared him, though."
"It's okay. I scare him all the time. God, I'm so sorry! I hope you aren't too mad at me." The blonde woman said, blushing slightly.
"No, I'm just relieved that I'm finally able to talk to you for a little bit. Would I be wrong in assuming that you wanted to speak with me as well?" The idol asked her.
"No, not at all. I was actually going to call you before Allen burst into my room with Mimi-chan on the phone." Quinn told him, rubbing her forehead lightly.
"Oh?" The vampire asked, curious as to what she had wanted to talk to him about. "Yeah. I had a really weird dream last night." Quinn said, peeking out from behind a display of wedding dresses on display.
"A weird dream?" Gackt was beginning to not like where this conversation could lead, "Do you want to tell me now?"
"Hang on," she peeked out again to see Mimi in a frenzy looking for her, "Uh...I've got an overly nervous bride-to-be searching for me and I don't know how long I can hide behind giant princess gowns to avoid her. When are you free?"
"Four o'clock...hopefully..." Gackt said, trying to picture a reluctant Quinn hiding behind mannequins to avoid shopping. "Sounds fantastic! Hopefully I won't be here till then. Text me when you're done, okay?" She added.
"Alright then. …Kuinnu-chan?" Gackt said, sounding slightly worried.
"Yeah?" She replied, noticing the tone.
The vampire really wanted to tell her that he would be her prince charming and knight in shining armor and he would come and rescue her, but he couldn't find the words, "Be safe."
"I will. I've been shopping with Mimi before. Ja mate ne."
"Ja ne." He sighed as he hung up, trying to refrain from abandoning rehearsal altogether and just go see his angel.
"Would Gackt-san please return to the stage!" Chacha yelled from the stage, doing his best to be as loud and obnoxious as possible. Iago and the others couldn't help but laugh at Chacha's impression.
Gackt just shook his head and headed back to his spot, "Apparently, your lovely bride-to-be has kidnapped Kuinnu-chan." He said to You as he turned on his mike.
"Mimi-san's a nice girl, but she can be a bit 'overdramatic' about things like this." Ju-Ken said with a chuckle.
"Please stop telling me things I already know..." You groaned out.
"We still need to through you an engagement party." Iago pointed out. "When did you all turn into gossiping girls?" You asked the other band members.
"When you got engaged." Gackt said with a big smile. "You do realize that film crew has been taping this entire conversation, right?" Ju-Ken said to the others. You just let out another groan before they restarted rehearsal.
"That means they got you on the phone too." Chacha pointed out to the vampiric vocalist. It was more of a warning than playing around, since the entire group was still worried about the DEARS finding out about Quinn and possibly hurting her in jealous rage. It stopped Gackt right in his tracks.
************************
"What do you think?" Mimi asked for the tenth time since Quinn arrived. The dress she currently had on was nothing short of a ball-gown style dress. A corset top with slight embellishment and a decently long train were the dress's main features.
"It's very nice. Like the beading," Quinn replied in an almost monotone voice. "How do you feel in it?"
Mimi looked in the mirror for a few minutes before she said, "Almost there." "What's missing this time?" The American girl asked her friend. 'This is why I hate going shopping for myself, let alone to help others.' She thought. "Mimi-chan... The last three dresses you tried on had more than enough lace." Quinn said with a sigh.
"But they had no dazzle to them!" The bride-to-be said.
"Mimi-chan... how about I pick one?" She said. Quinn knew that at the rate Mimi was going, they'd be there all night.
"Can we wait for Rukia-san to get back? Please?" Quinn gave her an annoyed look, "So that way she can show you where all the dresses are and help me stay in my price range?"'Sounds reasonable' Quinn thought as she sat back down.
"Okay ladies! I think I found the one!" Rukia-san said as she arrived with a large garment bag, "Now I know you haven't liked the fit and flares, Mimi-chan, but I want you to give them one more try."
Mimi gnawed on her lower-lip for a moment before she let the consultant lead her back into the changing room. Mimi soon stepped out, the dress a nice one. Nothing over elaborate, it was a strapless dress with rousing on bust and torso, a small arrangement of flowers on one side, the small section of lace slightly embellished. There was no deining that Mimi looked beautiful in it.
"It looks amazing on you," Quinn said with an encouraging smile, You-kun's mother agreeing with her asking the consultant details about the dress.
"It's a Pnina Tornai," Rukia-san began, describing the fabric and details of the dress. Quinn normally would have paid attention, but she could see Mimi start questioning the dress.
"Is this it?" Quinn asked, unintentionally interrupting the two older women. Mimi gave her friend an apologic look before she shook her head no, "Rukia-san? Is it okay if I go and try and find a dress for her?" The consultant readily agreed and led her to the stock-room. For half an hour, Quinn and Rukia debated on dresses to have Mimi try on until she came across one that caught her eye.
"I think I found one." Quinn said with a large smile, already picturing Mimi in the dress. After rushing back to Mimi, Quinn and You's mother excitedly chatted together, eager to see Mimi in Quinn's selection. The atmosphere was killed when Mimi came out in her dressing-robe. "Before I try it on, I want you to try one on."
"…You're joking." Quinn said after a moment of shocked silence."I’m not. I want you to have some fun," Mimi said, "Besides, wedding bells may not be too far ahead for you and you-know-who~~!" she continued in a sing-song voice.
"Mimi-chan! I'm sure Rukia-san has other clients she needs to get to today. And on another note, that’s not funny!" The blonde woman said, struggling to control the color of her cheeks.
"Nope. Today is a slow day for us here. So humor the bride, why don't ya?" Rukia said, backing up Mimi. Quinn looked down at oldest woman in the room for help.
"I would love to see what you would look like a dress, my dear," She said, leaving Quinn feeling slightly betrayed. Mimi soon found a dress she was more than willing to try on while she and Rukia were pulling dresses for Quinn to try. The young American woman thanked her lucky stars when she got Gackt's text. It simply read 'Where do I need to go?'. She quickly texted him back that she was still stuck at the bridal salon and that she needed rescuing.
"Who you texting?" Mimi asked when she noticed that Quinn wasn't heading into her dressing room.
"You-know-who. He's coming by.” She replied as she set her purse down to the chair she no-longer using. The blonde smiled to herself. While she didn't really want to just ditch Mimi, she knew that if she stayed in the salon much longer, she was probably going to scream. "At least try on a few before he comes! Okay?!" Mimi shoved her into the dressing room, a consultant named Kisha following the poor blonde.
"Haven't had a pushy bride like that in awhile!" Kisha laughed out, pulling out the first dress for Quinn to try on. "Don't worry. Some girls like to have a good friend try on a dress or two. Helps quells the nerves" "I wish the good friend wasn't me. I'm not even going to be able to go to the wedding," Quinn said as she stepped into the dress, letting Kisha lace up the back of the dress. "It's kind of like the one I picked for Mimi-chan." She said. "Shall we show her?" Kisha asked.
"Might as well," Quinn said, letting the consultant open the door for her. Mimi was already out in her selection.
“That looks great on you," Quinn said, feeling slightly awkward in satin ivory dress. "And I see the twinkle in your eye~!" You's mother agreed.
"I think I'm in love with it!" Mimi said, "Let me look at you!" she grabbed Quinn's hand, dragging her up on the small podium. "Look how gorgeous you are!" Quinn quickly covered her face with her hands as she was pulled up to the podium and the mirrors. “No thanks. I don't need to let my ego get the better of me.” "Don't be shy! It's the perfect dress for you!" Mimi cheered, happy to see Quinn out of jeans and a tee-shirt for a change.
"I don't know about the whole strapless thing..." Quinn remarked nervously. "It does wonders for you," The mother said, standing up next to her. "Shows off what you have. Nothing too scandals but doesn't hide what you have."
"Wonderful. Can I change now? These sort of dresses make me feel so.... out of place." She said.
"Really now?" A seductive voice next to her ear said. "You do look exceedingly gorgeous. I might have to wisk you away in it."
The blonde almost fell over as she heard the voice that belonged to the rock star that she adored, her expression one of shock and embarrassment. "G-G-Gakuto-sama! Wh-when... wh-what...." Her face turned crimson from how flustered she was.
"I may have to buy that for you..." He said as he helped her regain her balance and held her close in a gentle embrace.
"N-no!" She said, blushing red all over. "T-that's going a little too far." She said, feeling her heart pounding so hard that it felt ready to burst out of her chest at any moment. It wasn't that she was against the idea of getting married. But the fact that Gackt Camui, the (literal) man of her dreams, was teasing about buying the WEDDING GOWN she was wearing? It was getting to be close to the point where she should have passed out long ago.
"Really now? How so?" He asked her, having too much fun making her flustered.
"C-cause you're just teasing me. And it's not funny." She said, sounding angry with him a bit. Yet in her gown, with that lovely ring on her finger, Quinn didn't notice just how much like a bride she really looked.
"Shall we put a veil on her to complete the look?" Mimi offered. "Mimi-chan!" Quinn could not believe this was happening to her. When did she become the dress-up doll?
Gackt let out a small laugh, deciding that he wanted her for himself now, "Alright, alright. We'll stop. Go get changed and we'll leave." Quinn gave him a wide-eyed stare for a moment before hugging him.
"Thank you!" She rushed back into the dressing room, desperately wanting to escape. Quinn gave a sigh of relief as she went into the dressing room and began to get out of the dress. Her eyes widened as she looked at her reflection, along with a 'ghostly' image of the same Victorian woman from her dream. Her green eyes were hard and glaring at the American girl.
"His heart is mine! I won't let you have him!" She said, reaching out as if to grab Quinn, causing the blonde to scream.
Gackt burst into the small dressing room at the sound of her scream, obliviously more concerned about her safety than her state of dress. "Dajiobu ka?!" Quinn quickly clung to Gackt, her body shaking from whatever it was that had scared her. The idol didn't protest, and simply held her, looking around the small dressing room to figure out what could have possibly put her in such a state of fright.
'Was that... some kind of ghost?' Quinn thought, looking back at her reflection in the mirror. She didn't let her eyes linger to long on the reflective surface, she was scared that possible ghost might make a return appearance. Quinn did not like this feeling of vulnerability at moment. And though Gackt was here, holding and comforting her, she suddenly felt like something was going to take him away at any moment.
"What happened?!" Mimi asked, making Quinn aware that there were four others here.
"I-I scared myself. Had a bad dream last night." Quinn said hastily. She could tell Gackt didn't believe her. He could feel her trembling, the gooseflesh that refused to go away, and it probably didn't help that she was still clinging to him for dear life.
"Come on. Let's get you into your clothes," Kisha said softly, reminding her and the vampire that Quinn was less than presentable at the time being.
Gackt left the room with some relucentance, unsure of what scared his angel.
"She going to be fine." Mimi told him after awhile, "If she can put up with the nightmare that is me, then whatever scared her in there will pass."
"She probably just saw something like a bug, or a spider." Rukia suggested as the blonde quickly came out and handed the gown back to the store employees.
"Probably." Mimi said with a shrug, "She has been known to be overly-frightened by the things."
Quinn soon came out, followed by Kisha. "Ready to go?" She asked Gackt, her eyes still holding a small bit of fear from scare earlier, but she had definitely regained her composure. "Hai, let's go," He smiled, taking her small hand into his, leading her out and to his car.
