A/N: another new chapter! and for those who don't know Razia's Shadow - go out and buy it now! it's super awesome! I don't own it, but if I did I would be a super genius like the Dutton brothers (which I'm not)

Rebecca stood in the small ‘backstage’ wings area of the ratty little venue. There was going to be a short series of special original cast performances of the musical that her friends from Forgive Durden (or rather the Dutton brothers) had wrote, Razia’s Shadow. And because of an unfortunate scheduling incident, they were without the female parts. At least until Brendon had decided to ‘accidentally’ let it slip that Becca knew all the songs and could sing. So of course that had resulted in Thomas asking her to fill in.
The show hadn’t started yet and she could feel the anticipation hanging in the air. Becca knew what the waiting around anxiously for the show to start felt like. She had been standing in the crowd for years. It might have been fun to go out into the crowd again. But of course, performing put a small cramp in that little wish. Oh well, there would be plenty of other shows that she could sneak out into the crowd and have a good time like she used to.
While humming along to the music played over the stereo system, Becca noticed a few of the fans glancing over in her direction. Of course they could see her, the venue was tiny enough that she was sure everyone would be hanging around after the show talking to the boys. She smiled and waved at the girls looking in her direction. Some of the fans seemed shocked and perhaps a little scared, but two of the girls merely laughed and waved back.
Becca smiled at the sense of familiarity in the setting. That and having Patrick as a cheerleader were probably the only reasons she was going to actually go through with this insane little plot, no doubt cooked up by Brendon and Spencer (who was lurking around the backstage area).
The shows were billed as a special original cast performance with friends. But it had actually turned out to be most of the original singers plus some of the other band guys helping out on the instruments and filling in with whatever parts were missing. And Becca. She was doing both female parts in the concept album. Of course, she didn’t mind in the least. Except for the singing in public part, that scared her to death.
A pair of hands grabbed Becca’s arms from behind, causing her to jump and let out a slight squeal of shock. She spun around and seeing it was Brendon, punched him on the arm. “Don’t you ever do that to me again! You’re already very close to death as it is, don’t add anything else to your list of crimes.”
The crowd must have caught sight of Brendon, because there was a group of squeals from the audience area. A small groan escaped his lips, but his face still retained the happy-go-lucky smile as he waved before pulling Becca farther off into the backstage area where most of the others involved were standing around waiting.
As soon as they were far enough backstage where they weren’t likely to be seen, Brendon playfully leaned over to Becca’s ear. “I’m going to kill you this time!” As he pulled back, he laughed evilly causing Becca to laugh herself.
“You know, Brendon, I think they must have wrote your part specifically for you. You know, dark and evil, all that stuff. That’s you through and through. Evil bastard.” Becca playfully gave Brendon a kiss on the cheek before turning and glancing around at the assembly of musicians gathered for the performance. “Some group, huh? It’s like the who’s who of alt-rock vocalists.”
Thomas laughed and nodded. “Yeah, some group. But it’s just a group of my friends who happen to sing. Luckily for all of us, we’ve made it in the business. Now it’s your turn my lovely. And to think I get to romance you in two different lifetimes.” He playfully made a smooching face.
Becca laughed and playfully grabbed Thomas’ chin and shook it. “Isn’t he just the cutest? And as for me getting into the business, no thanks. I’ll stick to the backstages. That and behind my camera. I still want the rights to the movie version of your baby. So you can’t sell the rights to anyone else or I’ll hunt you down. Besides, I’m doing you a favor by singing in this small series. So you owe me one.”
“I can already see it, the tyrant director in the making. Mrs Stump, if we do decide to take Razia’s Shadow to the big screen, you’ll be the first to know. Well, aside from me and the little brother, of course. I’m still in shock that we could manage to get a full week of shows here plus others in New York, California, and a few scattered one night deals in other places. And with most of the originals too, that’s something special.”
Becca nodded at the luck they had managed to have in scheduling the series of concerts. It was great for the brothers to get their baby performed in a semi-regular setting, almost like if they were performing on Broadway, which she secretly hoped the show made it to.
One of the crew members who was acting as stage manager for the series rushed backstage to grab everyone’s attention. It was showtime. The nerves bubbled up again and Thomas laughed before giving her a quick hug. “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. Just pretend that we’re just back at your house in the music room. You rock, Becca.”
Thomas winked before running off to hop onstage to give the introduction and standard speech saying that while it was a musical, it was just like any other rock concert. Of course, he also threw out the mention of the substitutions to the standard original cast. But what Becca didn’t expect was the big deal that he made out of having her singing with them. The crowd screamed and applauded at the mention of having her singing along with them, and Becca couldn’t contain the blush on her face.
Brendon laughed at the blush on Becca’s face at the crowd’s seeming approval before she had even went onstage. “Yep, that’s the adoration part of being famous. They love you before you even do anything. Get used to it, missy. You’re going to be HUGE! And not in a bad way, just super famous.” He winked playfully before heading as far back away from the stage as he could to warm up his voice. Just then the music for the first song started up and Becca rushed back to the wings to watch before she had to go onstage.
~*~
Becca couldn’t believe it. She had just finished her first actual performance using her voice. Now all the others were hanging around either inside or out behind the venue chatting happily with the fans. Several of the fans had jumped at the chance to chat with Brendon without security swarming all around. There was security for the guys around, but they were being lax out of appreciation to the fans.
What had surprised Becca wasn’t the ease everyone was talking, but the fact that she had been getting people coming up to her and wanting to talk. Of course there were a few that somewhat scared her with their odd (or just outright rude) questions, but there were also some who were genuinely friendly and supportive.
Patrick had been mostly staying out of the line of vision of the scary fans, although as the last of the fans scattered to head back to their homes or the hotels that they were staying in, he walked back over to where Becca was standing chatting with a few remaining fans. Brendon and Thomas were on either side of her joking about their fighting over her love. Becca saw Patrick heading her way and grinned, laughing lightly as Brendon teased Thomas saying that he never wrote what happens after the musical, insisting that Pallis takes Ahnura as his own.
“Well as much as I love both you boys, it’s time I go off with my real man. Maybe I’m just being Nidria now. Running away from the evil flowing off you two.” Becca laughed, teasing them both before leaving a quick kiss on the cheek for both of them. “Night boys. See you guys tomorrow.”
“You were great, Becca. Just like I said. Go celebrate a great opening night for you.” Thomas winked as he teased her before she managed to escape the venue with Patrick, heading back to their house for the night before coming back tomorrow to do this all over again.
