They arrived back at David's apartment just as the weather was starting to turn cold.
"Nice place." Said Jo. "Reminds me of my apartment back in London."
David smiled. "It's not much, but it's home while I'm working on Doctor Who. Nice view of the bay as well."
Before Jo could reply her phone started ringing.
"Hello Jemma." Sighed Jo, rolling her eyes and earning a smirk from David as he headed into the kitchen.
"Yes I'm fine...stop checking up on me...bye Jem."
Jo shook her head and turned her phone off to avoid any further interuptions.
David returned with a bottle of wine and two glasses. "At least she cares." He reasoned as he sat on the sofa and poured a glass of wine.
"She's worse than a stalker!" Remarked Jo as she sat next to him.
David paused thoughtfully and smirked, handing Jo one of the glasses. "Point taken."
"Thanks, I don't get it, I mean it's not like I'm the first person to have a hard life and I certainly won't be the last."
"What happened to you Jo?"
Jo sighed ran her hand through her hair. "I was adopted as a baby, never known my real parents, never bothered me though my adoptive parents were great. I had the best of everything, anything I wanted in life they encouraged me and helped me. They couldn't have children of their own, but I had all the love anyone could've wanted. But...they died when I was eleven, car crash killed them."
David didn't speak, Jo was obviously finding it hard opening up to him. It was obvious that this was something she'd not spoken about in a long time. "Jemma's been my best friend since we were about two years old, her parents took me in and looked after me." She smiled. "A couple of years later we joined the Army Cadet Force, that's where we met Paul and AJ, we used to have so much fun on the training camps, I used to think my life was finally starting to get better. I graduated from art college and got a job with a company that did pet portraits, started getting into my music. Jemma and Paul moved out here when I started college, Jemma was offered a position managing unsigned bands and Paul has family down here...then I met Matt. We fell in love moved in together and were together for five years. Then things began to turn bad. He wanted kids but we fund out that I can't carry to full term, took me three miscarriages to work that out."
David shook his head looked Jo in the eyes. "How can someone so young go through so much?"
Jo shrugged. "I found him in bed with another woman after that, then I found out that she was four months pregnant with his child. So I kicked him out, sold the flat and came here to be closer to Jemma."
"So that's why you find it so hard to trust people." He said softly.
"In a nutshell...yeah." Replied Jo.
"At least you've got your friends." He smiled.
Jo smiled. "Yeah, well I know I can always count on Jemma, but she can be a bit overbearing."
"Just her way of showing she cares?"
Jo smiled. "You sound like Paul."
David laughed. "I can just see things from all sides.
Jo looked away for a moment, lost in her thoughts. "It's still a warm night, fancy going outside?"
Jo turned back to him and nodded. "Sure."
They stood on the balcony, the gentle sea breeze from the bay rustled through the trees.
"Nice view." Said Jo. "So what about you? I'm sure you have women throwing themselves at you constantly."
David smiled sadly. "I was sort of in the same position as you, my last girlfriend Sophia left me about a week ago."
"What happened?" "She ended up going to America, apparently her career meant more to her than I did."
Jo gently placed her hand on his and smiled sympathetically. David just looked at her for a moment, her big blue eyes shining in the moonlight, a small smile crossed his face and he squeezed her hand.
"I dunno, we're just a pair of lost souls." He laughed.
Jo laughed and shook her head. "That's probably why we get on so well."
David smiled and looked into Jo's eyes again, his smile widening as he realised she was doing what he had done earlier. "
Guess you really do go all gooey infront of a bloke with brown eyes."
Jo laughed. "I can't help it you've got gorgeous eyes. Especially in the moonlight...normally they're just the usual shade of brown but in the moonlight they're so dark they're almost black. It's kind of hypnotic."
David raised his eyebrows. "Wow, that's..."
Jo blushed and looked away. "Okay I feel like an idiot now, the artist in me just keeps escaping from time to time."
David smiled and gently took her chin in his hand, running his thumb over her right cheek. "I don't think you're an idiot at all."
Jo smiled and stared into his eyes again as he released his gentle grip.
"I think you're brilliant." He murmered as he moved his face closer to hers, his warm breath on her cheeks as he paused before softly kissing her briefly, he pulled away to see her reaction.
Jo looked at him for a brief moment, before moving closer to him and returning the kiss.
David's heart thudded in his chest as he felt Jo's arms wrap around his neck, deepening the kiss he placed his hands on her slender hips.
This time Jo was the first to break their embrace.
"Well that was erm..."
David laughed. "Yeah, erm...I was kind of expecting a slap round the face.
"I could still give you one if you like." Smiled Jo.
David raised his eyebrows and smirked. "I'd rather you didn't."
Jo giggled. "Okay then, I won't."
David smiled warmy and kissed her again.
