Everlasting Love(Pt10)
It was Kyle’s turn to laugh. "You must be mistaking Mr. de Brabant. Rick can’t possibly be who you say he is. Our father was in his eighties when he passed away. I have a copy of his death certificate. Rick looks to be in his thirties."
"Those can be faked. I myself have had many. Theoretically he is 87, but Richard found the fountain of youth at 33 or it found him."
"I for one do not believe in the fountain of youth. It’s not uncommon for a son to look exactly like his father."
"Its not going to be ease to convince you that Richard is your father."
"What your suggesting is prosperous."
"Kyle doesn’t believe your twisted lies." Sav said calmer than he felt. "So why don’t you leave now."
Nick feigned indifference, lightly tapping his index finger on his chin.
Sav picked up the chair and sat down, as he looked at Joe.
"Sav what year were you born?" Nick asked.
"1960." Sav blurted before he could stop himself.
Joe rolled his eyes and kicked Sav under the table.
"My…my, such a quick answer." Nick mocked.
Sav slumped back in his chair in defeat. He knew that Nick was not going to give up until Kyle knew the truth. "You sonofabitch, you just can’t leave well enough can you?" he spoke softly to Nick.
"I must admit, I have enjoyed watching you squirm, it's very amusing."
"No, you like to make my life miserable when everything for once is going the way I want it to."
"Ah yes it is or was. You have a child that you have always wanted and I believe, something else you have wanted for a very long time."
Sav shot him a death look before he went any further with that thought.
"But...I’ll leave that for another time."
"Nick, if Sav tells him the truth, that means we’re breaking The Code."
"Well in this case we’ll just have to make an exception to the rule. It doesn’t apply where long lost family members apply. And one always recognizes family." With those last words Nick glanced at Kyle.
Kyle listened to them, trying to make sense of what they were talking about. Glancing at each man and getting more confused by the minute.
Sav took a beep breath and ran his hands over his face. He looked to Joe for support and felt him strongly in his mind.
"Kyle, everything that Leigh told you in her letter is true. I met her before the show at the meet and greet. She had won backstage passes from the local radio station. I asked her to meet me after the show. From there we went to the hotel where the band was staying. We spent three wonderful days together."
"You keep referring to me and I." Kyle cut in.
Sav looked directly at Kyle. "I am your biological father."
Kyle stared at him in disbelieve. "This is bloody absurd. It is inhumanly impossible for you to be my father."
Joe snorted. "You've been hanging around us to long Kyle. You’ve already picked up some of the things we say."
Kyle suddenly stood up. "Beth and I are leaving. I don’t know what kind of games you are playing Rick, but I don’t like being deceived." Kyle threw his napkin over his plate and made to leave the room.
"Leigh had a tattoo…" Sav called out. "…on the lower part of her stomach…." he smiled at the memory. "… a butterfly sitting on a yellow rose."
Kyle stopped dead in his tracks and turned back to face him. "H..how did you know about that?"
"I couldn’t help but notice it." Sav looked down at his hands. "I didn’t say goodbye to Leigh that last day. I told her I would call and write to her. The few times that I did, she never answered my letters or calls."
"Those letters were in the stuff that she left me." Kyle said and sat heavily back in his chair. "They were all signed just with an 'R'. I always thought it was an old boyfriend."
"I had no idea that she was pregnant. If I would have known..."
Kyle leaned forward in his seat, "You had to have known, money was sent every month."
Sav looked at Joe, then at Kyle with a confused look on his face, "I-I didn't send money..."
"For as long as I can remember an envelop came every month with a thousand dollars cash in it. I asked mom about it, she said it was from art work she sold over the years, but it wasn't..."
"So she did lie to you." Nick cut in.
Kyle glanced at him then down at his hands, "Yeah I suppose she did, but nonetheless, money was sent just like clockwork. The last one that arrived at my office had a letter, addressed to me, sending their condolences about my father's passing. I think another letter was accompanied with the money when my mother passed. I never saw that one, I just know my father was reading it when I came in the room."
"I only sent a few letters to Leigh and that was years ago." Sav slowly turned his head to glare at Nick, as a new thought came to his mind. "You knew about Kyle, you sent money all these years. You kept that hidden from me."
Nick smirked as he twirled the dark liquid around in his glass. "I assure you Richard, I had no knowledge of Kyle's existence."
Sav didn't believe him and plunged ahead as anger settled back in him, "You're lying Nick. You've had me followed...sent your men to investigate every thing I do, that includes my past, every aspect of my life is ingrained in your brain." Before Nick could respond, Kyle spoke up. "The name on that letter was Lacey Garrett."
Sav whipped his head around to stare dumbfounded at him, then whispered, "Lacey."
"You know her?" Kyle asked noticing the knowing expression on Sav's face, then Joe's raised eyebrow.
Turning his gaze from Kyle, Sav looked at Nick. "You said you killed her years ago."
"I said no such thing," Nick scoffed. "I simply implied that I did to keep her out of your life and for you stop looking for her."
"Then you lied to me about Lacey. Lead me to believe that she was dead!" Sav's voice steadily grew louder the more he thought about the years Nick kept up the lie about Lacey.
Kyle was about to say something when Joe held up his hand to stop him. "We can save the argument about Lacey for another time." Stopping both men from going any further. He turned his attention back to Kyle. "We knew Lacey, Sav dated her for awhile, then she just disappeared."
Shaking the thought's that Nick threatened to kill some one and his idealistic impression from the tycoon that owns de Brabant Foundation, Kyle ran his finger threw his curly dark hair. "So you did know her?"
Sav took a deep breath to calm his anger, "Yes. I met Lacey a few months after that time I spent with Leigh."
"How is that possible? You can sit there and tell me this and look no older than you do in those photograph's with my mother?" Kyle thumped his finger down on the table to get his point across.
Joe snorted and Sav gave him a sharp, side ways glance. "Once I've convinced you that I am your biological father, I can better explain that."
"That is not going to happen, because it is not possible." Kyle stood to leave, staring at the three men that sat around the table, "Even aging cream cannot make you look that young."
Joe bubbled with laughter, "He has your dry humor."
"Nothing is funny about this Joe," Kyle said in disbelief that he would be laughing. "How old are you anyway?"
"I turned 87 a few weeks ago."
Kyle slowly started to shake his head, "This is all to much. All of you are lying to me and I don't know why. Is this all a game to you?"
Nick who had held his tongue the last few minutes couldn't hold back any longer. "Do you believe in vampires Mr. Manning?"
Kyle swung his gaze toward Nick, "Vampires…no, of course not!"
"You should." Joe mumbled.
Kyle heard him and looked at him, then at Nick and finally at Sav. "If you’re telling me that the three of you are vampires, then I know you’ve all lost your mind. What kind of sick games are you playing?"
"No games, I can assure you Mr. Manning."
"This is crazy…all of you are crazy. Vampires don’t exist."
"Kyle look…." Sav started as he raise from his seat "…forget about vampires right now. I am your father, the same man that is in those pictures with Leigh. I am Richard Savage."
"I need more proof than just what you are telling me. A…a blood test would confirm that."
"That’s not going to work." Nick put in.
"Why not?" Sav shot back.
"Your blood is no longer your own. There is no blood type this or blood type that, but that of a vampire."
"Blood test are not done by type alone, there is DNA." Kyle said.
"That wouldn’t work either." Said Nick smugly.
"And you know this because?" Sav started pacing the room.
"I don’t really. It has something to do with the vampire element in our blood that makes it hard to distinguish the difference between the two."
"Then just shut up Nick if you don’t know!" Sav shouted.
"Sav calm down." Joe said getting up and going to him. "Getting pissed is not helping."
"I am calm! I’m trying to tell Kyle that I am his father, but that bastard is not making it easy." Sav pointed to Nick.
"Sav you and I both know he is. We talked about that last night."
"How do you know for sure Joe?" Kyle asked. He was starting to get confused again.
"It goes back to the vampire thing. I can smell him in you. The moment I touched your hand and was close enough, I knew."
"I could taste your blood." Nick offered with a smug smile.
"Don’t you fucking touch him Nick!!" Sav’s voice boomed in the room, causing Kyle to stand a little straighter.
"Ok…ok, I’ve heard about enough of this." Kyle said as he moved toward the door. "I think it’s time that Beth and I leave."
"Are you going home to the States?" Sav asked softly.
"Yes. It doesn’t matter if you are my father or half brother, I want no part of this lunacy you call family." Kyle backed up a few steps to leave the room to collect his wife, who was still talking to Evelyn in the living room.
"WAIT!" Sav yelled and flew at him. Kyle backed up by his sudden movement. "I…I know of someone that can prove who I am."
Kyle got over his shock. "The two that are here couldn’t do that. What difference is one more going to make?"
Sav turned to Joe and held up his hands. Joe was the only one that saw the threat of tears in his eyes. "Kyle please, just give us a few more minutes of your time. Long enough for me to make a few phone calls."
"For what’s its worth." Kyle stomped back over to his chair and flopped down.
Joe chuckled as he picked up the phone.
"Something funny?" Kyle asked him.
"Yeah…" Joe was still smiling. "…he does the same thing." he was pointing to Sav. He punched in the numbers and after ringing a dozens times the line was picked up.
"Hello."
"Rick, its Joe. What took so long to answer the phone?"
"I’m an old man Joe. I can’t move as fast as I use too."
"You just think your old."
"What do you want? You never call unless you need something?"
"Well we do need something. I need for you to come over and verify that Sav is Rick Savage."
"You want me to do what?"
"Please will you do this, its very important?"
"Alright, I’ll be there soon." Rick hung up the phone.
Joe turned to everyone. "Rick is on his way." He glanced at Kyle and noticed the confused look again. "Rick Allen, the drummer for the band."
"I know all about the band." Kyle waved him off. "And I suppose you’re the Joe Elliott, lead singer and a vampire."
"Yes. Kyle I know you’ve been hit with a lot tonight. Once we’ve convinced you that Sav is your father, then we’ll set about proving that we are vampires."
"Yeah…How?"
"By showing you." Joe moved to the liquor cabinet and took out a bottle. "Right now I think you could use some of this." He sat the bottle down in front of him.
Nick stood up. "Sav may I have a word with you outside."
Sav glanced at Joe, then at Kyle. Without saying another word he went out the door as Nick followed him.
"I’ll go get Beth and leave you two alone to talk."
Out on the patio Sav immediately spun on Nick, grabbing his throat. Deep amber colored eyes bore into Nicks. "Why did you do that?"
"Let go." Nick said firmly.
Sav only tightened his hold. "And if I don’t?"
"The price you pay will be painful."
With a deep growl, Sav shoved him away. Nick straightened his shirt.
"Kyle wasn’t ready to hear the truth."
"What better time? I know you to well Rick, you would have never told him. You would have strung him along for years letting him think that you were his half brother."
"That was my choice to make, not yours."
"Doesn’t matter." Nick shrugged his shoulder.
"It matters to me." Sav pointed to his chest.
"What happened here tonight is not the only reason I came."
"You never do have a reason to come here to torment me, you just show up and do it."
Nick clasped his hands together behind his back; his face took on a hardness that Sav didn’t like.
"Pack your bags, we leave tonight."
"Excuse me?!" Sav hissed.
"Richard don’t make me repeat myself." Nick said evenly.
"You can’t just demand that I leave."
"Can’t I?"
Sav glared at him a moment. "aarrghh…and if I don’t?"
"Then you would leave me no choice but to speak with Joseph about..mmm let me see…" Nick titled his head and cocked his eyes toward the black sky. "….lets say, your other little secret."
Sav stormed back into the house, his angry strides slowed when he approached Kyle and Beth sitting at the table talking quietly.
"Kyle, Beth I’m….I’m sorry." Sav quickly left, going to his room.

Several hours later, Joe went to get Sav from his room once Rick arrived. He opened the door and his steps slowed noticing that Sav was packing a suitcase.
"What are you doing?"
"What does it look like I’m doing?"
The cold tone in his voice didn’t go unnoticed. "Your packing. Where are you going and why?"
"With Nick." Sav zipped the case closed. "He threatened you and Kyle if I didn’t go with him tonight."
"When will you be back?"
"I don’t know." Sav lifted the case and headed for the door.
"What about Kyle? He just found out that you are his father and your going to leave because Nick told you too."
"Yes, I am Joe." Sav called over his shoulder.
Nick was standing by the door when they came down. Sav nodded his head in greeting to Rick, glanced briefly at the others. He sat his suitcase on the floor at his feet and turned to Joe.
"I’ll call you in a few days. Take care of my son Joe."
"Don’t go with him…please."
Sav didn’t care who was in the room, he circled his arm around Joe’s waist and pulled him against him. Holding Joe’s eyes, caressing his face softly. "I have too baby." He then covered his mouth in a soft kiss, gently sliding his tongue to dance around with Joe’s.
Several pair off eyes turned away to look off at something else. Rick chuckled softly and silently applauded their boldness in front of Nick, who didn’t look very happy.
Sav broke away from him, ran his fingers across Joe’s lips. Bending down Sav picked up his bag and went out the door that Nick was holding open for him. When the door closed Rick broke the silence in the room.
"He sure picked a good time to leave."
Evelyn stood up and went over to Joe and she touched his arm. Joe turned tear filled eyes to her, turning toward the stairs, his footsteps heavy as he went up. Evelyn watched him go, feeling his heartbreak at Sav’s sudden decision to leave. She knew that it had something to do with Nick.
Rick once again broke the silence. "Kyle, Beth, I know you’ve been through a lot tonight, learning that Sav is your father, his relationship with Joe, about what he is. I know that your leaving tomorrow, but I must ask that you stay, please."
"Why did Rick just leave like that and what’s the matter with Joe?" Kyle asked trying to make sense of everything.
"It’s a long story." Evelyn added.
"Very long story." Rick put in.
****
Sav slumped down in the passenger seat, his head back against the headrest. The miles sped by, taking him further and further away from Joe and his son. He could feel Joe’s hurt in his mind and wondered again why he was doing this to him…again. Was Amber really worth losing Joe, perhaps forever? ‘No.’ Sav screamed in his mind. ‘I would rather die than to lose him.’
"Stop the car Nick." Sav said sternly.
"Your conscious getting the better of you again Richard?"
"Stop the car." Sav repeated.
Nick slowed the car and pulled over. "I hope you know what your doing."
"Even your threats and abuse can’t keep me away from him." Sav told him and got out, slamming the door with force. Sav leaped into the air and flew back to the house. Back to the man that he would give his life for.
