Chapter 10: First Date
"What are you going to be up to today?" Andy asked Ethan as she put on her new watch from Brian. Lynn was picking her up so they could go and get her new tattoo.
Last night they continued to talk about who Erika was and how strict she can be when it came to new people in the trio's lives. But the fact that Kara hasn't told Erika about Andy and Ethan was some what of a red flag for their PR team. Because if Erika didn't know then, Melissa didn't know, and if Melissa didn't know then, they had a big problem.
Alex said that he would call Kara and talk to her to set up a meeting before New Years and they could all meet with Erika. He did warn that they would have to take a day trip to New York City and Andy didn't like that idea.
When asked why she explained that growing up her dad always talked about how he hated big cities and always loved the small town life. Only because that's how he was brought up. But then he married Andy's mom and even though he still talks about how he hates big cities; he makes an effort for his wife.
Growing up her family rarely went north and when they did it was because her dad was stationed in Illinois for three years and her grandfather; her mom's dad was living in Iowa after coming to the States from the Philippines. So all her life she avoided going to New York City. But now, it seems that she would have to go after all.
They continued to talk about the trip into the night and hoped it would be right before New Years Eve. Since Ethan and Andy still had to get things for their camp out. Brian, Alex, Lynn, David, and Angel all offered to chip in for any expenses but Ethan and Andy shook their heads. But they insisted, and after an hour of arguing they decided they would all go as a group and pick who would buy what. That they all agreed on and decided to go after the trio's announcement for the tour. They would also announce when tickets would go on sale and then they would be off to get the camping equipment.
The night grew colder, and later so they all called it a night. After everyone said their byes, Lynn walked Andy to the rental car and gave her a good night kiss. Then, Ethan and Andy drove off. As soon as they got to the town house they rushed in and started to play with their gifts. As if they were two five year olds that received new toys. Andy had Ethan take a picture of her in her Slytherin onesie and she took a picture of him with his staff. Then, they both took a picture together. After sending it to their friends and the trio they posted the pictures on their profiles.
Within minutes they started to get comments and likes on the pictures. They stayed up playing their new video game and since they got each other the exact same video game they decided to just play one copy for now. Then when they beat it, play the other copy. They also ended up with the same pairs of shoes. She gave Ethan a pair of red and black slip on Vans. While he gave her a pair of black and white Vans. They also gave each other a bracelet that said, "I Can Do All Things."
By the time they went to bed it was near three in the morning and for the first time in a long time they both were able to sleep in until the early afternoon. They both woke up around eleven and had a fruit bowl, orange juice, and a cup of coffee for breakfast. After taking turns in the shower Andy was ready to go and waiting for Lynn to pick her up.
"Well that's awkward," Ethan said with a smile looking at Andy's outfit. She had a pair of skinny jeans, her black and white vans, one of the TRAPT shirts that Lynn gave her, as well as the TRAPT hoodie, and her hair was in the "dapper dan" style.
"What?" She asked as she finished putting on her watch.
"Well you're about to go on a date with the lead singer of PVRIS, but you're wearing TRAPT merch." He said with a small laugh.
Andy just shook her head, "You didn't answer my question. What are you up to today while I'm out?"
Ethan shrugged, "See if I can find some boxes so we can ship our new stuff to Trey. Might ask Alex to help me."
"I'm gonna say this one more time Ethan, He. Is. Straight." She said with a smirk shaking her head, just when the doorbell rang.
"I'm gonna say this one more time Andrea. You. Say. That. Now." He told her with a wink as she answered the door.
There stood Lynn with a big smile and fresh snow in her hair, "Hey! Ready to go?" She asked and Andy nodded.
She gave Ethan a hug, "Promise me you'll keep your hands to yourself." She said pulling away from him.
"I don't make promises I can't keep," he said with a wink.
Andy shook her head, "I'll see you later," she said and walked out of the door and smiled at Lynn. They walked to Lynn's car, a 2016 black Honda Accord. As if on instinct Andy opened the driver side door and Lynn looked at her with a confused look.
"What?" She asked and looked at what she was doing, "Oh, the door. I know you're driving I just wanted to get the door for you."
Lynn smiled and shook her head, "You're always surprising me," she said and walked up Andy and gave her a small kiss. She got into the car and Andy closed the door and walked around to the passenger side. Once she was in she put on her seat belt and they were off.
Andy was excited to get this tattoo, because she's been waiting a long time for to get it. She wanted it to be her first tattoo but decided to get something else. She took in pride in all her tattoos no matter what they were. Each would mean something to her in some way. At first she was just getting mostly words in black ink. But now that she had some designs she couldn't help but think of having more designs just to mix it up a bit.
"So why TRAPT?" Lynn asked pulling Andy away from her thoughts. Andy smiled as she remembered the first time she heard the song "Headstrong."
"If I'm being honest I heard them by accident when my family moved back to the States from Japan. I was just starting high school and I didn't know anyone except for the kids I met over the summer in my neighborhood. I got home from school one day and got on Launch.com, which was like this website that had a shit ton of music videos. Way before YouTube." She explained after seeing Lynn's confused face.
"Anyway, I was looking up Chevelle and TRAPT happened to pop up on the music playlist and I instantly fell in love with their sound. Now, I was an angsty thirteen, fourteen year old at the time. So when I found out that TRAPT had an album out I asked my mom if she could buy for me and she did. I listened to their first album over and over and over again. The song "These Walls" is my all time favorite song by them because I was able to relate. It took me thirteen years to finally see them this past September and it was the best night of my life.
Their music saved me time and time again and when I was holed up in my apartment for nearly eight months because of my knee, I played their songs over and over and over again. They kept me going and they kept me fighting. Whenever I have a hard day I put on "These Walls," and I blast it and just keep it on repeat. Ethan knows not to bother me when I have that song playing. Even at work when I play it my co workers know not to talk to me until the end of my shift. I've been dealing with depression since I was fourteen and I don't know, when I hear their music I just feel better. I'm sorry I'm rambling again." She said shaking her head and looked down at her hands.
Lynn smiled and took Andy's hand in hers and kissed the back of it. "Stop apologizing for rambling. I think it's adorable. Plus, to hear you talk so passionately about a band you care so much about is inspiring. It's what makes us do what we do. We want to touch those lives, that gives us the strength to go up on that stage night after night and just hear what impact we can make. Words are so powerful and to add music to the words makes it so much more worth it. I never dreamed that the three of us would be selling out shows, or even have people come up to us and tell us how much we inspire them. Even if it's not through music but through causes that help a community in anyway shape or form. Touching them with just our music makes everything we do worth it."
Andy smiled and kissed the back of Lynn's hand, "Well, I can tell you that when I was holed up for eight months you three also inspired me. I think I had "Holy" and "Fire" on repeat. "Fire" is actually my favorite song. It helped me push out a lot of negative people in my life and "Holy" well, it's what you said about it in a interview made me love it even more. Only because I've actually experienced something like that before."
They pulled up to the tattoo shop and Lynn parked the car, "Some people are just closed minded, and it drives me insane sometimes," she said with a sigh and turned off the car. Andy was out of the car and opened the door for her, "Why do you that?" She asked as she took Andy's hand.
"I don't know, I guess you could blame my Southern/Filipino upbringing or the romance movies I watched as a kid with my mom." She said as she closed the door. Lynn locked her car and they walked hand in hand into the tattoo shop.
Lynn was greeted with big smiles and hugs, which she returned with enthusiasm. She introduced Andy to everyone and they also gave her hugs. Lynn started to talk to the guy with a small beard and an undercut hair style. He nodded and started to ask Andy which design she wanted and she said just a simple one with black and red colors. The top would be red and the bottom would black.
"What's with you and those colors?" Lynn asked with a smile.
Andy just shrugged, "I don't know. I think it's because for me they just work so well together."
"Okay, I'll go draw it up, I'll be right back," the guy said smiling and walked to the back.
"Thanks Jake," Lynn called after him.
He turned back around and smiled, "Actually, Lynn why don't you come back here and help me out."
Lynn looked at him with a knowing smile, "Yeah, sure," she kissed Andy on the cheek, "Be right back." Andy just nodded and watched as she walked into the back with Jake.
Andy started to look around the shop to see what kind of styles the artists in the shop had. To be honest the designs were really good. Some even better than the ones she saw back home. She started to think about maybe getting another tattoo from this place next year when she came back up for Christmas and New Years.
"Okay Andy, come on back," Jake said and Andy turned around to follow him. She was looking down as she was walking, just as she was taking off her hoodie she looked up she saw Lynn sitting there with a smile of her face.
"What's going on?" She asked watching Lynn getting the tattoo gun ready.
"Well, Lynn here has been my apprentice for the past two years," he said looking at her and she nodded.
"Just about," she said and started to get the chair ready for her to sit down. She got the arm rest ready and then patted the chair for Andy to sit.
"You want in on the inside of your bicep right?" Lynn asked as she changed her gloves.
Andy nodded, "Yes ma'am," she said out of habit and rolled up her sleeve. Jake turned on some music on his phone and Andy looked up when she heard the first notes of the song.
Lynn's smile got a little bigger, "I kinda of told him about how much you love them," she said and she put the stencil on Andy's arm.
She looked at it and looked up at Jake who bent down and took a closer look, "Perfect," he said and stood back up.
"So Andy, tell me about yourself." He said with a smile pulling up a chair and crossed his arms. Andy heard Lynn start up the tattoo gun. She took in a breath and started to talk to Jake. It would help distract her from the pain she was about to feel.
******************************************************************************
"You're kidding?!" Jake said with a small laugh.
Andy was answering his question about how she met Lynn. Andy shook her head, "Nope. Everything I wanted to say went straight out the window. Didn't say it was my birthday-"
"We found out when they were on the bus," Lynn chimed in.
"Also, and she doesn't know this, but I skipped my high school reunion for the show."
Lynn stopped the tattoo gun and looked up at her, "Are you serious?"
Andy nodded, "Dead serious. I posted on the event page that I was going to be out of town and my phone blew the fuck up with people I haven't seen or talked to in ten years."
"So you didn't say it was birthday, and you didn't say that you skipped your high school reunion to be there?" Jake asked with a smile and with a shake of his head.
"I was so star struck my mind went blank. I blurted out anything that came into my head. From the accident that we were in, to how I saw them for the first time in Norfolk as an opening act. I just completely blew it."
"You weren't half as bad as the others," Lynn said wiping away at some of the extra ink on Andy's arm.
"Well, I was going to ask you out on a date then too, but again it didn't happen." Andy confessed then put her hand over her mouth.
Again Lynn stopped the tattoo gun and looked at her, "Seriously?" Andy kept her hand on her mouth and nodded. Lynn looked at Jake who was trying to hide some of his laughter. Andy took her hand away from her mouth and looked down at her phone in her lap, trying to hide the fact that her face was turning red.
"Can I tell you something?" Lynn asked and Andy sheepishly looked at her, "I would have said 'No' if I'm being honest. Only because you were a fan."
Andy nodded, "Oh, I know. I just wanted to give it a shot and see what would have happened."
"But look at you two now. Who would have guessed it," Jake said standing up and walking over to the water cooler. Lynn stood up from her chair and gave
Andy a small kiss on her lips, "I'm actually glad Ethan won that raffle," she whispered against her lips and smiled.
"You and me both," Andy whispered back and gave her a small kiss in return. Lynn winked at her and sat back down and started up the tattoo gun again. Jake gave Andy a small cup of water and sat down in his chair.
"Lynn says you're about to make a big move," he said sipping on his own water. Andy nodded taking a sip of her water as well.
"Yeah, Ethan and I are moving to Georgia and my Uncle is going to teach us to run his new location. It's something the both of us wanted to do. I'll be running mostly everything and Ethan would be helping me, and he would be running the kitchen as well. Brittany my step cousin would be running the front. We have it all planned out and it's going to be opening up in April."
"Why April?"
"Well, it's being built, plus hiring and training a new staff, getting the menu ready, learning how to go from pastas to steaks, and learning how to fully run it. So it's going to take some time."
"Holy shit!" Jake said shaking his head, "That's a lot."
Andy nodded, "It is, but it'll be worth it in the end."
"Alright all finished," Lynn said putting down the tattoo gun. She wiped away the extra ink and started to put the solution on Andy's arm and wiped it away.
"Go ahead and take a look," Lynn took off her gloves and started to clean up the station. Andy walked over to the mirror and looked at her fresh tattoo and smiled. The top was red and halfway through the red blended with the black. Just how she wanted it to be. The lines were smooth and the shading was done really well.
She turned around and looked at Lynn, "Wow! This is exactly how I pictured it!"
She walked up to Lynn and gave her a hug and kissed the top of her head, "It's perfect," she whispered and pulled away from her.
"I'm glad you like it," she said and started to wrap up the tattoo.
"'Like it?' I LOVE it!" Jake watched the interaction between the two and couldn't help but notice how happy his friend was. Also that she was glowing and there was a spark in her eye again.
When they were done he walked them back out front and Andy reached for her wallet. He held up his hand, "It's already been taken care of," he said with a smile and he looked at Lynn giving her a wink.
"Are you sure? Well I know you didn't do it, but at least let me tip you," she said reaching for her wallet again.
Once more Jake held up his hand, "No need, just meeting you was tip enough." He walked around the counter and gave them both a hug.
"It was nice meeting you. I hope to see you soon." Andy said as they pulled away.
"Likewise," he smiled. They said bye to each other one more time and one more time he hugged them both. The two walked out of the tattoo shop hand in hand.
Lynn unlocked her car and Andy opened the door for her, "I don't know if I can get used to this," she smiled getting into the car. Andy closed the car door and got into the passenger side.
"Where to now?" Andy asked still smiling.
"Well I know we had plans for a date tonight, but I was thinking if we could kind of make this an all day kind of date."
Andy thought about it. She wanted to change and do a proper date with Lynn, but she also wanted to spend as much time with her as she could.
"Take me away," she said and Lynn smiled. She started the car and they were off to their next destination.
*****************************************************************************
Andy felt the cold breeze as the ferry traveled over the water. She took in a deep breath and let it out. She never thought she would be on a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. She could definitely cross this off her bucket list. She felt arms wrap around her as she turned around she was met with those hazel eyes. Every time her heart would skip a beat and she didn't know why. But that feeling should have left a while ago but it was still there. She kissed Lynn's forehead and they both looked out onto the water and enjoyed the peacefulness this ferry ride had to offer.
The drive up wasn't too bad. She and Lynn talked about their childhoods and they finally talked about their age difference. Which the both of them were dreading.
"Sometimes I forget about how far apart we are in age," Lynn confessed and Andy agreed. This was one of those talks she was trying to avoid but she knew it had to happen.
"Honestly I forget that you're twenty three," Andy said looking out of her window.
"And sometimes I forget your twenty nine. When I first met you I thought you were twenty five."
Andy smiled, "I get that a lot. I still get carded when I buy alcohol. There was one time at the liquor store this lady didn't believe my license was real and I told her that it was. If it wasn't for the on duty manger who saw me before I think she might have banned me from the store." Lynn let out a soft laugh as she turned down the road that would take them to the ferry.
"So what are we going to do about this age gap?" Andy finally asked.
Lynn took her hand, "I could give two fucks to be honest. I know I have feelings for you and I know that I really, really, really, like you. I know I'm young and you're still young too. I say we keep whatever it is we have going. We don't know what the future holds, but what I do know is that when I see the future I see you in it some how, some way, you are in my future."
Andy kissed the back of her hand and let it the soft kiss linger for a few moments longer, "Could not have said it better myself. I feel the exact same way. I can't explain but every time I picture where I want to be I see you. You're standing there smiling at me and the feeling I get is beyond words." Lynn was trying to hide her blush but Andy smiled when she saw the color creep up on her cheeks.
"Also that night at Chez's you were my first mistletoe kiss ever. Just thought you should know." Lynn gave her a quick glance of surprise then turned her eyes back on the road.
"We'll talk about that when I'm not driving," she said with a small shake of her head.
Now here they were on the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Andy took out her phone and started to take pictures of the scenery and then looked at Lynn as if to ask permission to take pictures of them. She smiled and nodded and Andy started to take a few pictures of them. One where they were both looking into the camera phone with a smile. Another one of them looking at each other. Another one of Andy kissing Lynn's cheek and finally, one of them giving each other a kiss on the lips. They looked through the pictures and Andy decided not to put anything up on her profile until she got back to the town house.
She put her phone back in her back pocket and smiled, "I never thought I would see myself going to Martha's Vineyard." She said mostly to herself but Lynn heard her.
"Well there's going to be a lot of firsts with us," she said touching Andy's cheek.
Andy smiled and nodded, "I hope so."
Lynn returned the smile, "I know so." They looked at each other not wanting to look away. Both of their hearts were beating a mile and minute and their minds were racing. Both haven't had a feeling like this in so long they didn't know what to do about it. Andy leaned in and kissed Lynn's forehead softly. This was starting to become one of Lynn's favorite things. It was as if Andy was telling her that everything was going to be okay. That she would be with her on this crazy journey they decided to go on.
"By the way, we need to talk about what you said in the car." Andy looked at her with a confused look.
"You know, mistletoe, first kiss," she said in a teasing voice and Andy couldn't help but feel her cheeks go from cold to being on fire.
"Well, it's true. I've never had a mistletoe kiss until that night. Just like how I never really had a New Years Eve kiss. Well I had one, but I don't really count it because it was with a friend and it was weird."
"Wait, you never had a New Years Eve kiss either? Not even with Nicole?"
Andy shook her head, "Nope. She was either working, or too drunk, or telling me she was out with some friends when she was really with Nate."
"I can tell you that this year you are definitely getting a New Years Eve kiss."
"Is that so?" Andy couldn't help but pull her closer.
Lynn leaned in just barely touching her lips, "It is so," she whispered and gave the woman who turned her world upside down a soft kiss. This was by far the best first date the both of them have ever had.
*******************************************************************************
The ferry docked and Lynn started to give Andy a tour of Martha's Vineyard. They were both just as excited as they were Christmas morning. Lynn was excited to be with Andy and show her around and Andy was just as excited to be with Lynn and enjoy this day with her. She couldn't help but chuckle at the way Lynn was dragging her to almost every shop, telling her stories of how she used to go these shops as a kid with her parents and she was allowed to pick out one item to take back with her.
She said she had a small jewelry box of just small things from the Vineyard that she kept throughout the years. Andy noticed a horse and carriage and this time decided to take the lead. It was Lynn that was surprised this time when she felt her pulling her towards the horse and carriage. Andy asked how much it was and the driver gave her the price. Without another word Andy took out her wallet and gave the driver some cash and a little extra for the tip.
She helped Lynn up and once they were both settled in the driver whistled for the horse to move and they were off to enjoy more of what the Vineyard had to offer.
"Tell me something else about you growing up," Lynn said as she moved closer to Andy. She thought for a few minutes trying to pick one of her favorite memories she had growing up. Most of her favorite memories were when she lived in Japan and she smiled recalling a memory.
"There was this one time I was playing soccer on a team," she started to say.
Lynn looked at her, "You played soccer?"
Andy nodded, "It's my favorite sport. We'll get to that later," she said kissing her forehead.
"But our team really sucked," she continued with a small laugh. "But, that didn't matter to us. Sure we had the worse record of the season, but that didn't stop us from playing our hearts out. Anyway, I was a forward for the first time. Normally I was center mid field, but we were down like three players and my coach put me up there. The sun was setting and we were losing three to zip.
We never cared about how much time we had left, we just kept playing. Our goalie saved the ball and kicked the ball in the air and it started to come down right towards me. I waited for it to bounce and let the momentum of it take over. I started to chase it and passed it to my teammate right next to me. I passed a defender and he passed the ball back. I dribbled it further and passed it back to him passing another defender. He stopped because we were close to being off sides."
Lynn was listening intently to her story and she was literally on the edge of her seat.
"Once he saw a defender come back to position he passed me the ball once more. We were in the penalty box and I knew we had to make a move. It was quick but I saw him right there four feet away from me and I passed him the ball and with one touch of his foot the ball went into the goal." Lynn smiled as she saw how excited Andy was getting over this memory.
"We all cheered and my teammate and I hugged and he told me that my pass was perfect. The parents were on their feet cheering for us, our coach was screaming at the top of his lungs. Even our goalie came running all the way down to join the celebration. As soon as the cheers started to die down the referee blew the whistle three times indicating that it was the end of the game. But we didn't care. We just scored our first goal." She chuckled thinking about the memory.
"The other team was looking at us like we were crazy. Yeah, we lost but in our hearts we won. We all lined up and did our good game high fives and we went back to our side and started to cheer again. The parents all took us out that night for pizza and we just talked for hours about the last play. We didn't care that the season was coming to an end. All we cared about was scoring that one goal. I think that was one of the best memories I have, and I will cherish that forever."
Andy smiled as she looked down at their entwined hands, "This will also be a memory I will cherish forever."
The driver stopped the carriage and said that the ride was over. Andy stood up first and helped Lynn down. They thanked the driver and they started to walk towards a street that had more shops and restaurants. The sun was setting and they both were getting hungry so Lynn picked out a small little restaurant. Andy held the door open for her and followed her in. They were greeted by a young hostess and she asked for how many. Lynn smiled and said two and they followed the young lady into the restaurant.
When they got to the table Andy helped Lynn out of her coat and then pulled out the chair for her and she sat down. Then, she walked over to the other side of the table and took off her jacket and hoodie and sat down. The hostess gave them their menus and told them that their server would be with them shortly. They thanked her and they both started to look over the menu.
"Wow, have some really great stuff here," Andy said mostly to herself but Lynn heard her and nodded in agreement. A young man that looked to be about in his twenties came over and introduced himself as Travis. He asked would they would like to drink. Andy asked for a water and a coffee, and Lynn asked for a hot tea and water. He went over the specials with them and asked if they needed more time. They looked at each other and nodded. He told them to take their time and that he would be back with their drinks.
"There's just so much to choose from," Lynn said flipping through the menu. Andy nodded doing the same thing.
"I think I know what I want," Andy muttered. She always had a habit of looking through the menu and her eyes always ended up on an item three times. By the third time if the server doesn't come back she changes her mind at the last minute. But if the server comes back after she looked at the item three times she orders it. She couldn't remember how long she was doing this for, but it always worked for her.
Travis came back with their waters and hot drinks and gave Andy some creamer to put in her coffee. They said thank you and in a cheery tone he said that they were very welcome. He asked if they were ready and Andy looked at Lynn who nodded. She let her go first and she started out by asking a couple of questions about the dish she wanted and Travis didn't hesitate to give her straight answers.
Andy was really impressed with his knowledge about what Lynn was asking. She thanked him and said that she would have the balsamic vinegarette chicken over spaghetti and the steamed 'bang bang' broccoli. He asked what kind of dressing she would like with her salad and she gave him her answer. He smiled and told her that it was a good choice. He wrote down what Lynn said and then looked at Andy with a smile.
She smiled back and said that she would have the scallop with capers and brown sauce chef special. He asked for her one side and she said that she would take the roasted maple glaze carrots. He also asked what kind of dressing she wanted for her salad and she opted for the oil and vinegar.
He smiled as he finished writing down Andy's order and said that he would be back in a few minutes with some bread, butter, and their salads. They thanked him and he walked away. Andy started to put some sugar and creamer in her coffee and used her spoon to stir it up.
"It's not going to be as good as yours," Lynn said as she put in a packet of sugar in her tea.
"Oh, I know, trust me. I don't want to ask them to bring everything I put in my coffee at home. I know how it feels to run back and forth to accommodate a customer."
Andy finished stirring her coffee and took a sip. It was a good cup of coffee just not as good as her own. But she didn't mind.
She looked up at Lynn and saw the look she had, "What? Is there something on my face?" She said taking her napkin ready to wipe off whatever was there.
Lynn smiled and shook her head, "No, I just," she cleared her throat and leaned forward and took Andy's hand in hers.
"I just want to know everything about you. I mean I'm pretty sure you know a lot about me. Given you can find stuff on the internet. Also, I have a feeling you've read every article there is about me, Brian and Alex. "
Andy nodded, "This is true, but that's a whole another life you have. But I want to know the REAL Lyndsey. Sure there's articles about you and the guys. But that's about you and the guys. I wanna know the Lynn Gunn outside of PVRIS. Because from what I know from the internet is where you're from, how you three got started, how you opened up about your depression, and how you have a great sense of humor." Lynn laughed and shook her head.
"How about this, you ask me a question and I'll answer it. If you have any questions while I'm answering chime in any time and I'll do the same with you." Andy offered just as Travis came back with their salads, bread, and butter. They thanked him again and the smiled and walked away.
Andy put her napkin in her lap and put some dressing on her salad. Lynn noticed that she was picking off the onions, green peppers, and black olives.
"For some one that tries to eat healthy you sure do pick off a lot of veggies." She said and took a bit of her own salad.
Andy chuckled, "I guess you could say I'm a picky eater but not a picky eater. For example, I don't like avocados, but I like California rolls. But they have avocado in them."
"Does this mean you don't like guacamole?"
Just as Andy was taking a bite of her salad she nodded. Lynn looked at her in surprise, "How can you not like guacamole?!"
Andy smiled, "Just never really got a taste for it. I've tried every single version out there and I could never bring myself to enjoy it."
"Maybe I could change your mind," Lynn said smirking and Andy shook her head.
"Many have tried. But if you do, well, then, you've worked a miracle."
"Okay, here's a question."
Andy wiped her mouth with her napkin and nodded, "Shoot."
"Why did it take you five years to decide to propose to Nicole?"
"Wow, coming right out of the gate huh?" She said taking a sip of her water.
"Was that too personal?" Lynn asked with a worried look.
Andy shook her head, "No, not at all. The only other person to ask me that was my dad."
"Got it," she nodded and took another bite of her salad. Andy sat back and thought about why it did take her so long to propose and then she remembered the reason.
"Alright you're gonna laugh, but when I was twenty I had my first serious girlfriend and after like six months of dating I proposed to her," she confessed and again Lynn had a look of surprise on her face.
Andy held up her hand, "Let me explain. I was young, I thought I was in love, but I was in love with the idea of having a girlfriend and having a wife. She was my first everything and we broke up on bad terms. But we kept hooking up. Any way flash forward like two years later I met Nicole through a friend.
Little did I know that I was going to be her first everything. We had this wild romance for a year. We were stuck in this honeymoon phase and we truly fell in love. But I didn't want to make the mistake of getting engage too early."
"You wanted to make sure she was the one you wanted to spend the rest of your life with," Lynn chimed in and Andy nodded.
"Exactly, two years go by and still everything is going great. We didn't live together at that point, but I was working a lot more so that we could get a place together and finally move in. Three years go by and we're looking at apartments to rent and finally decided on one."
"Is it where you live now?"
Andy nodded, "Yeah just another apartment though. We were doing a three bedroom because I met Ethan and he was looking to get out of his sisters place. So all three of us move in together and it was nice at first. Then four years into our relationship she started to become distant and withdrawn. I blamed myself for the longest time because of work. I was trying to keep up with what she wanted, like clothes, jewelry, vacations, and plus I was trying to pay off a ring I had put up on lay away."
"When did you really start to suspect something?"
Andy sighed, "Well, it was when Ethan said that he heard Nicole flirting on the phone with someone. Now, I didn't think anything of it. But when he mentioned that she was going to go down on a guy. That's when things in my head started to turn. Five years in, and on the night I was going to propose. I had everything set up. Roses, candles, our song playing, and I was dressed up nice and I waited for her to get home. Only to get a text message from her saying it was over. That she met someone else that would give her the time of day."
"How old were you?"
"I was twenty six. Then I tore my ACL not too long after. I had to dig into my savings, pawn the ring, and file for unemployment because I couldn't work. Ethan and I downsized to a two bedroom. Our friends from work helped us move and so did my parents. My parents also helped me out with rent, bills, groceries, anything I needed. I just paid them back fully nine months ago."
"So after you got better from your surgeries you started to work out more?"
Andy nodded, "Yup. Trey was so great. He saw me sink more and more into my depression before my surgeries. Then, one day he forced me out of the house and we started to walk first, then it became push ups, then sit ups, then weights, and slowly started to run again. After about a year I started feeling better and I kept up with my diet mostly and my workouts. I didn't want to go back to the person I was after Nicole. People started to notice I was happier and brighter and had a whole new look on life."
Travis came by and refilled their drinks and told them that their food should be up shortly. He took Lynn's empty salad bowl as well as Andy's. They thanked him and he smiled and walked away.
"I like this you, I feel like if I met you two years ago we might have had quite the friendship. Seeing as my break up happened around the same as yours."
"Okay your turn now," Andy said adding some sugar and cream to her coffee.
"Uh oh," Lynn said with a small blush.
"Think I'll pick up the mood a little bit."
"Okay I'm all yours."
"How many times has a fan asked you out on a date or asked you to marry them?"
Lynn laughed and shook her head, "Wow, I wasn't expecting that question."
"I told you I was going to lighten up the mood a little bit." Andy took a sip of her coffee and smiled.
Lynn smiled and sat back in her chair thinking about all the meet and greets she did over the past few years. Andy could tell the wheels were turning in her mind.
"I gotta say I don't think I've ever experienced that until now," she said with a smirk and Andy shook her head with a smile.
"Okay, let me think for a second," she squinted her eyes as she looked at the woman sitting across from her and started to think hard. After a few moments she opened her eyes and smiled, "What was one of the best moments you had on stage?"
Lynn smiled, she didn't have to think about that one, "I think it was when we were doing one of our first small headliners and part of our set was to do a stripped down version of 'Ghosts.' I only made through I think the first five words and I heard the entire crowd sing along. I was so overwhelmed with love that I had to stop singing. But Alex kept playing and the crowd just kept singing. It was in that moment I knew that we had touched so many lives with our music that I didn't want to stop creating. I didn't want to stop making music if it meant touching some one's heart."
Andy nodded, "I think I saw a clip of that. You didn't know if you wanted to continue to sing or not."
Lynn nodded, "For a moment I just wanted to hear the crowd sing every single word. But I knew I had to keep going. That night they touched my heart and now when I'm on that stage and I hear them singing the words that I wrote at the top of their lungs I can't help but smile. I can't help but feel that I've done something to these fans. That they took my words and they use them in their every day lives, to help them get through with whatever it is they are going through."
"You made an impact on them."
"I guess you could say that. We've only been at this for a short amount of time and the fact that we've come this far still amazes me."
Travis came over with their dinners and both dishes looked amazing. He asked if they needed anything and they looked at each other and shook their heads. He told them that he would be back to check on them and with a smile he walked away. They picked up their silverware and started to cut into their meals.
After the first bite they both let out a satisfied low moan after tasting their meals for the first time. They didn't talk to each over for a bout ten minutes because they were both enjoying their dinners. Travis came by to refill their drinks and asked if everything was okay.
Andy told him to tell the chef that her meal tastes amazing and Lynn nodded in agreement. He told them he would let her know and he walked away.
"Her?" Andy asked with a small surprise in her voice.
"Was not expecting him to say that." Lynn smiled as she took another bite. They fell back into a comfortable silence and they finished their dinners.
"That was amazing!" Andy said wiping her mouth with her napkin, then taking a sip of her drink. Lynn nodded in agreement just as Travis came by to clear their plates and asked if they wanted any dessert. They both looked at each other and shook their heads.
"But could we get it to go?" Andy asked and he nodded.
"Of course, let me grab you the dessert menu." He walked away with their empty plates.
"I figured we could have something on the trip back," she said.
"Good thinking."
Travis came back with the dessert menu, and Andy looked at Lynn for her to take it. He said for them to take their time and he would be back in few minutes to take their dessert order.
"What do you want?" Lynn asked looking over everything.
Andy shrugged, "Surprise me," she said with a smile. Lynn looked over the menu a few minutes more and finally decided on a dessert. It was perfect timing because Travis came back over to see if they decided anything. Lynn smiled and nodded. He took out his pen and small notepad ready to write down what they wanted.
"May we have two slices of the chocolate mousse cheese cakes?"
"And that's to go?"
"Yes sir," Andy responded out of habit. Travis chuckled as he took the menu from Lynn.
"You don't have to call me sir," he said with a smile.
"I'm sorry it's an old habit I can't seem to break."
"No need to apologize I understand. I'll be back with your dessert and check. Is this together?"
"Yes sir," Andy said again, "Sorry," she said again.
Travis chuckled, "It's okay. Just let's me know that there is still some people with manners in the world." He smiled and walked away.
"Were your parents strict when you were growing up?" Lynn asked.
"You could say that. I mean I was spanked as a child, but I think if it wasn't for those spankings I might have ended up in jail to be honest. It wasn't just a belt either. It was a hanger, my mom's flip flop, a switch, a wooden spoon, my dad's hand. But I mean looking back on it I can see why they did it. Me and my sister were pretty bad. Having discipline really helped us a lot. We grew up to respect our elders and always say 'Yes sir, No sir' or 'Yes ma'am, No ma'am. Also my dad was around Marines a lot so we always had to be respectful."
"You should write a book," Lynn said and Andy just laughed as Travis came back with a bag that was neatly tied with two to go containers in it. He put down a small black book with their check inside and Andy made a move for it before Lynn could. Before Travis walked away Andy gave him the small book back with her card inside.
"I got the next date," Lynn said with a smirk.
"What makes you think I want a second date?" She said taking Lynn's hand in hers after seeing the expression on her face.
"Babe, kidding." Andy kissed the back of her hand and Lynn couldn't help but shake her head.
"Our levels of sarcasm are pretty high aren't they?" They both laughed and Travis came back with the small book and a pen.
"Thank you so much for coming in. I hope you both enjoy the rest of your night."
"No, thank you. You've been so wonderful and the food was amazing. I could use people like you where I'm going." Andy said as she started to fill out the restaurant copy of the receipt.
"Where are you going?" He asked politely as Andy signed her name and grabbed her copy.
"My Uncle is opening a new location for his steakhouse chain down in Georgia. I'm the new general manger." She closed the book and handed it to him with a smile.
"Well congratulations. If I'm ever down in Georgia I'll come look you up."
Andy took out her wallet and put her card back in and pulled out a small white card, "This has all the information in it, if you ever want to try some amazing steak."
She stood up and shook his head, "Again you've been wonderful! I can't wait to tell every one back home about this place. Also the chef, give her my compliments again. The food was delicious." She said and then started to help Lynn with her jacket.
"Thank you both for coming in. I'll be sure to tell her what you said and thank you for the card. I'll keep you in mind if I'm ever down south. Have a good night you two." He smiled and walked away. Andy grabbed their to go bag and took Lynn's hand and they started to walk out of the restaurant. The hostess wished them a good evening and they did the same. Andy held the door open for Lynn and was able to catch a glimpse of Travis' surprised face when he opened up the book and saw how much Andy had tipped him. He looked towards the door and she gave him a smile and nod. He told her thank you and she gave him a small wave and walked out.
She put her arm around Lynn shoulders and they started to walk towards the ferry. It was time to head back and see what else was in store for the night.
********************************************************************************
"How about this, if you had to pick between Hey Monday and Hey Violet who would you pick?" Lynn asked.
The ferry ride was a peaceful one and they both decided to eat their cheesecakes while on the ferry and again they both let out a small satisfied moan. It didn't take them long to finish their slices and they wished they had more.
"I thought I was full, but having that cheesecake just changed my mind." Andy said as she walked back over to Lynn after throwing their containers away.
"We have to go back next time we come here."
"You never been to that one before?"
Lynn shook her head, "No that was a new place. I'll have to look it up to see how long it's been around. It's new to me, but yes we should go back again."
They fell into a comfortable silence again and they stayed like that until the ferry docked. Hand in hand they walked to Lynn's car and she unlocked and again Andy opened the door for her. Again Lynn was still surprised at how chivalrous Andy can be to some one she's only known for a short time.
They were on their way back to Andy's town house. They didn't realize how late it was until they started the two hour drive back. The trio had to get up early in the morning to shoot the video for the announcement of their tour and ticket sales. After that they were going to go to the outdoors store with everyone to pick out what they needed for their camp out on New Years Eve.
"Okay, I'm gonna be honest with you. I only discovered Hey Monday after they broke up because I saw Cassadee Pope perform once and I looked her up."
"Seriously?! They were around your time frame of punk rock," Lynn said with a small scoff.
"Hey I was more into Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Eminem, and all them guys."
"Okay, okay, how about.....hmmmm.......Cartel or Taking Back Sunday?"
"You can't do this to me!" Andy said with a groan. Lynn laughed as she turned down the street.
"That's like putting early Good Charlotte and early Simple Plan together. You're making this so hard. It was easy at first, but now, nope!" Andy sat back in her seat with her arms crossed pretending to be mad.
"Oh come on babe, I won't judge you this time," she said with a small smirk.
"Yeah, like you said you wouldn't judge me when I picked Nickelback over Daughtry." She said shaking her head.
"Who the fuck picks Nickelback?!"
"In my defense I've followed Nickelback way before I started to follow Daughtry. So I based on how long I've followed them. If I were to pick sound it would be Daughtry!"
"You and your loyalty," Lynn said shaking her head with a smile. "But you do have to choose." Andy sighed and rubbed her face and thought about the two bands that she loved.
"Fine, I pick Taking Back Sunday. For both sound and the fact that I've been following them longer than Cartel."
"Finally! You pick a good band," Lynn said with a laugh as she parked in front of the town house.
Andy sat there for a second and then looked at Lynn, "What?" She asked looking at her with a concern look.
"This feels weird," Andy confessed.
"What do you mean?"
"Normally I'm the one that drops off the girl. I'm the one that walks her up to her door, and gives her a good night kiss. Normally I'm the one that drives to the dates and pays for dinner and the movie. So this is weird being dropped off."
Lynn put her hand on Andy's thigh and smiled, "Well you're in my neck of the woods and like I said before, there's going to be a whole lot of firsts with us."
Andy put her hand over Lynn's and nodded, "You're right, but that won't stop me from opening your door." Andy said with a laugh and rushed out of the car and before Lynn could react Andy was opening her driver side door.
"Seriously, I will never get used to that," she said smiling as she got out and Andy closed the door. They intertwined their fingers and started to walk up the steps to the door of the town house.
"Today was the most amazing day and date I ever had," Andy said with a smile brushing a strand of hair out of Lynn's face.
"Can we repeat it?" Lynn asked and they both smiled.
"If only I had a T.A.R.D.I.S. we could."
"You're such a nerd," Lynn said softly as she started to lean in.
"But, I'm your nerd," Andy replied back just as softly she was also leaning in. Their lips met and Andy wrapped her arms around Lynn's waist just as Lynn was wrapping her arms around Andy's neck. They've kissed before time and time again. But this time it was different. This time it was more intense. All Andy wanted to do was to take Lynn to her bedroom and worship ever single inch of her.
She wanted to taste more than just her lips. She wanted to kiss her every where and just hold her close with her skin against hers. But she also didn't want to scare her away, for fear of moving too fast. She had to stop, but oh, how she didn't want to stop, but at some point they both needed to catch their breath.
Andy gently pulled away trying to control her breathing and rested her forehead against Lynn's, "Holy shit," Lynn whispered and licked her lips.
Andy closed her eyes and nodded, "Ditto."
"I had an amazing time tonight," Lynn said still trying to catch her breath.
Again Andy nodded, "Ditto." Was all she could say at the moment. Lynn smiled and gave Andy a small kiss on the lips and even though they both wanted more they knew they had to stop. Andy wrapped her arms tighter around Lynn as they hugged and she didn't want to let her go.
But she knew she had to, she gently pulled away and grabbed her keys from her pocket, "Let me know when you get home," she whispered and Lynn nodded. The two of them didn't want to move, but they had to get some sleep. Andy kissed Lynn's forehead and they hugged one more time before finally deciding to let each other go. Andy opened the door and turned around to make sure Lynn got into her car safe.
Lynn smiled and waved and Andy winked at her and returned the wave. She got into her car and started it just as Andy was closing the door. She couldn't help but blush and smile. She checked her self in the visor mirror and saw that her hair was a mess and her lips were just a bit puffy. She was about to drive away when some one knocked on her window scaring her to death. She looked and saw Andy with a big smile on her face.
She opened her car door, "What is it?"
"You need to come see this right now!" Without another word Andy grabbed Lynn's hand and they rushed into the town house. Once inside Andy closed the door quietly and put her finger to her mouth telling Lynn to stay quiet. Lynn started to follow Andy towards the living room and she could see a faint blue glow coming from the TV as they entered the living room.
Andy started to point towards the pull out couch and that's when she saw what Andy was so excited about.
Ethan was lying on his back with his arm around Alex who was curled up next to him with his arm around Ethan's waist.
