"And I don't know how it gets better than this:
You take my hand and drag me head first,
Fearless."

"I'm nervous," Carrie admitted as she paced the airport terminal, talking to Kelly on her cell phone.
"There's no need to be nervous," Kelly replied. "I mean, she's just coming to visit, right?"
"Yea, she's coming for the week. We've been planning this for a while."
"You don't have to tell her if you're not ready."
"No, I want to. I'm just nervous."
"Everything's going to be fine," Kelly assured her. "And the good thing is, I'm leaving for France in four days."
"How's that a good thing?"
"Well, one, if you get lonely, your sister will still be there with you. Two, you get to spend some time with your sister without me up your butt 24/7 like always. And three, if she wants to kill me, I'll be out of the country."
Carrie laughed softly, "Yea, that's good."
"So how are you planning on doing this?" Kelly asked curiously. "Do you want me to meet her first? Do you want me to be there? Or what?"
"Um, I would like you to meet her. You said you were gonna be in the studio tomorrow?"
"Yes ma'am."
Carrie smiled, "Is it ok if I bring her by and then maybe we can have lunch or something?"
"Yea, sure, whatever makes you comfortable."
"But I do think I should tell her by myself."
"That's fine...I'm guessing this means I'm sleeping by myself for the time being?"
"I'm afraid so."
"Life sucks sometimes."
"Yes, it does," Carrie giggled. "So, what are you doing?"
"Changing. I'm going meet Jill and Kate to hang out. I think they want to go play tennis or something."
"Since when do you play tennis?"
"They're totally a bad influence," Kelly replied. "But yea, we're just gonna hang out...talk a little."
"Ah..." Carrie nodded. "Talk, huh?"
"Yea."
"Ok, well if you need me, feel free to call, ok?"
"What about your sister?"
"Kell, call me...I mean it."
"Ok," Kelly smiled.
"Good. Well, I've got to get going, her flight just arrived. I'll talk to you soon, alright?"
"Yep."
"Ok, have fun today."
"You too," Kelly smiled.

"Hey you whores," Kelly announced her entry as she walked into the small house that her two back up singers had bought in Nashville.
"Living room!" she heard a voice call back softly.
"Hey," Kelly smiled, walking into the living room and joining Kate on the sofa as she laced up her shoes. "Where's Jill?"
"She's in her room," Kate frowned. "She's not feeling well. I think it's a virus."
"Aw, well, we can reschedule if you want."
"Nah, she kicked me out earlier. She said I talked too much and was making her headache worse."
Kelly laughed, "You? Talk too much? Never."
"Well if that isn't the pot calling the kettle a loudmouth."
"So, I'm guessing this means we're not gonna play tennis, huh?" Kelly put on her best sad face.
"Two spazs playing a sport that allows them to hold hard rackets and entails balls flying at them? Not exactly safe, no," she shook her head. "Wanna just go for a walk in the park instead?"
"Sure," Kelly shrugged, following her out to her car.

"You look good," Carrie's oldest sister noted as they walked out the airport.
"Thanks," Carrie smiled.
"So what's with the happiness?"
"Nothing really," she shrugged. "Everything's just been going really good lately."
"Well that's good," Shanna smiled, wrapping an arm around her.
"How's everybody back home?"
"They're good. Everybody's good. They all say hey. Cody says hey."
"How's the loser doing?"
"Wants to know when his aunt is going to hook him up with some hot singer," she laughed. "I told him you have enough trouble finding one for yourself."
"Ugh, I hate when he calls me his aunt."
"Why?"
"Because I'm only like four years older than him. It's just weird."
Shanna looked at her sternly.
"Nothing against you," Carrie laughed. "You know what I meant. You're just old."
"Gee, thanks hun," Shanna pushed her away playfully.
"Well, you are," Carrie pointed out. "You're almost over the hill."
"You seem to forget about all of the embarrassing photos I have of you from when you were little."
Carrie closed her mouth tightly.
"That's what I thought," Shanna nodded with a grin. "So, let's get something to eat. I'm starved."

"Well I have to be honest,
As much as I wanted,
Im not gonna promise the cold winds won't blow."

"Dang, it's starting to get pretty hot," Kate noted as they walked along the trail in the park.
"Northerner," Kelly teased. "This is nothing. You should come to Texas in August."
"Sorry, but I think I'll pass."
"Over here in August is pretty bad, too, though."
"It's like I can't win," Kate shook her head.
Kelly laughed.
"So how's the love life?"
Kelly smiled.
"That good, huh?" Kate giggled.
"I, um," Kelly stopped walking. "I said yes."
"You said yes?" Kate smiled, pulling her into a hug. "KC, that's great. I'm so happy for you."
"Yea," Kelly nodded, pulling back, the two of them starting to walk again.
"So...when do I get to meet 'em?"
Kelly bit her bottom lip nervously.
"Is everything ok?"
"I need to tell you something," Kelly admitted.
"Ok."
"But I don't know how you're going to react."
"Kelly," Kate stopped walking, placing a hand on the shorter girl's arm to stop her as well. "Come on, now. You know me. I doubt there's anything you can say that would upset me. I mean, unless you're firing me or something."
Kelly laughed softly, "You know I'd never fire you guys. Y'all are way too awesome."
"Good," Kate smiled. "So, just tell me what's on your mind."
"It's, um...the person I'm dating. It's not exactly your typical relationship."
"What? Is he like really old or something?"
"No..."
"Oh...is he black? Cause you know what they say," she grinned. "Once you go--"
"No," Kelly giggled nervously. "That's not it either."
"Then what's wrong with the guy?"
"Well...you see...that's the thing..."
Kate's eyes widened, "You're dating a girl."
"Yea," Kelly looked up at her nervously.
"Wow."
"A-are you ok with that?"
"Yea," Kate nodded, squeezing her arm gently. "Just surprised, but that's ok."
"You sure? You don't like hate me or anything."
"No, of course not," Kate pulled her into another hug. "This is just like...big, you know?"
"It gets bigger," Kelly admitted as Kate let her go.
"How?"
"Well, the girl...she's kinda famous."
"How famous is kinda famous?"
"She's a singer."
"I thought you said no more musicians?" Kate replied. She studied Kelly's face carefully. "Wait a minute..."
Kelly went back to chewing on her bottom lip.
"Ashley mentioned the other day how you're always hanging out with...and you talk about her a lot..." Kate's jaw dropped. "Oh my God, you're dating Carrie Underwood!"
"Shh!" Kelly fussed, looking around to make sure there wasn't anyone near.
Kate grinned, "You are, aren't you?"
"Yes," Kelly smiled.
"Dang. You weren't kidding. When you do it, you do it big."
Kelly laughed, sniffing softly.
"Aw...KC, you were that nervous?" Kate asked, brushing a stray tear off her face for her.
"More so that relieved," Kelly admitted. "How sick is Jill? I wanna tell her too."
Kate looked at her sympathetically, "About that..."
"Jill?" Kelly asked. "What about her?"
Kate frowned as she started to walk again.
"Kate, wait up. What about Jill?" Kelly questioned, catching up with her.
"I, um, I think that maybe you should hold out on telling her."
"Why?"
"Jill's my best friend," Kate replied, shaking her head. "I love her to death, but there are some things that we don't see eye to eye on. This would be one of them."
"She'd have a problem with Carrie being a girl?" Kelly asked, unable to hide the hurt in her voice.
"It's nothing against you," Kate assured her.
"Man," Kelly wrapped her arms around her chest. "Honestly, if I would've had to pick one of y'all to have a problem with it, I would've chosen you over Jill."
"Thanks."
"Sorry."
"No, it's ok. I know it must suck to hear."
"Carrie's gonna meet us in France," Kelly said thoughtfully.
"Really? Good. I want to get to know her."
"Do you think if maybe Jill got to know her first, then she wouldn't be so upset about it when she found out?"
"I don't know..."
"Carrie's really an amazing person."
"I have no doubt that she is," Kate replied gently.
"We should just wait and see, huh?"
"Yea," she nodded.
Kelly frowned.
"I really am happy for you," Kate commented with a smile. "It's nice to see you so excited about something."
"Thanks," Kelly couldn't help but smile back.
