"Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer,
Do you know you're unlike any other?"

Kelly laughed as Ashley and Kate tried to sneak into the sound booth. "Hey y'all," she greeted into the microphone.
They waved guiltily through the glass window.
"They're not here yet," Kelly replied, knowingly as she stood, waiting for the producer to come back from his bathroom break.
"I just want to meet her," Kate shrugged.
"And you couldn't wait till France?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"I was curious."
"I think that's what got Kelly into this situation to begin with," Ashley teased.
"Hey now," Kelly laughed. "So, what's your excuse, Ash? You've met the girl tons of times before."
"Yea, but not as your girlfriend."
Kelly's eyes grew wide, "Y'all, her sister doesn't know, so please don't say anything in front of her."
"Deal."
"Deal," Kate nodded.
"Hey..." Kelly smiled. "Y'all wanna come to lunch with us? That way it's not so focused on me. Y'all know how I ramble when I'm nervous, and that never leads to anything good."
"I don't know..." Ashley replied thoughtfully.
"She's lying," Kate admitted. "We were totally gonna invite ourselves if you didn't."
Kelly shook her head, laughing, "You guys are seriously crazy, sometimes. You know that, right?"
"We so get it from you."
"Definitely," Ashley agreed as the producer walked back into the sound booth.

Kelly looked up at the sound of the sound booth door opening. She smiled broadly at the sight of Carrie walking into the small room with whom had to be her sister right behind her. Kelly studied her curiously. She knew Carrie's sisters were older, she just didn't think they were that much older. Carrie gave her a slight wave through the glass. Kelly waved back, her smile widening.
"Kelly," a voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Huh? Oh, sorry," she smiled sheepishly, refocusing on the producer.
"It's ok," he laughed. "One more take then you can go to lunch, ok?"
"Cool," she nodded.

"Hi," Kelly smiled nervously, holding her hand out. "I'm Kelly."
"I've realized," Shanna smiled. "I'm Shanna--Carrie's oldest sister."
"Cool. These are a couple friends of mine: Ashley, my make up artist, and Kate, one of my back up singers on tour."
"Hey," they both greeted.
Kelly tried not to laugh as Kate's eyes looked at Carrie pointedly, "Sorry. I forgot y'all haven't met either. Kate, this is Carrie. Carrie...Kate."
"Nice to finally meet you.," Carrie smiled.
"Yea, Kelly talks a lot about you," Kate replied, quickly closing her mouth, hoping she hadn't said too much.
Carrie nodded, laughing softly, "I think Kelly just talks a lot in general."
"True."
"Hey," Kelly protested, catching the country singer's eyes. She looked away at the feeling of Ashley elbowing her side.
"So who's hungry?" Ashley smiled.
"Starved," Carrie nodded, before turning and following her sister out the door.
"Y'all, her sister's old enough to be her mom," Kate noted.
"No, she's not," Kelly laughed.
"Damn close," Ashley replied.

"I can't pretend
That you're only my friend
When you're holdin' my body tight."

"So, that song was great," Shanna noted as they sat around the table in a small restaurant, enjoying their lunch.
"Oh, thank you."
"Did you write it?"
"Um, yea, I did."
"You should write for Carrie."
"Oh, I don't know..." Kelly could feel herself growing nervous again.
"Shanna hates my songs," Carrie confided. "She says they're too generic and more pop than country."
"I don't hate them," she rolled her eyes. "I'm just being honest."
Kelly smiled, "Yea, but with her voice, she could sing the telephone book, and I'd buy the album."
"Look who's talking," Carrie smiled back.
"So..." Shanna studied the short Texan carefully. "Kelly Clarkson, huh? How did you two start hanging out?"
"Oh, um, well, she..." Carrie began.
"She and I, well, we..." Kelly tried.
Ashley rolled her eyes, "They both volunteer at St. Jude's."
"Oh, that's right. Carrie told me about the little girl...the one you were looking after. Alex, right?" Shanna questioned.
"Yea," Kelly nodded, suddenly becoming very interested in her salad.
"I'm really sorry about what happened. From the sound of it, she was a really great kid."
"Pretty amazing," Kelly agreed.
"So, Shanna," Ashley changed the subject. "What do you do?"
"I'm a teacher in Oklahoma."
"Oh, Kate," Carrie's eyes lit up. "How old are you?"
"Twenty-five. Why?"
Carrie turned to Shanna.
Shanna rolled her eyes, "That's too old."
Kelly elbowed Kate to keep her from making a comment about Shanna's age.
"I have this nephew," Carrie explained, turning back to Kate. "Her son. He's been after me to find a girl for him."
"Aw, how old's the little guy?"
"Twenty."
"Oh," Kate's eyes grew wide. She turned to Kelly, whispering as the waiter came refill their drinks. "Told you she's old enough to be her mom."
"Shut it," Kelly laughed.
"So, Kelly," Shanna directed her attention back to her. "While, we're on the topic of boys, I'm hoping you can help me out. You see, Carrie has had this goofy smile on her face from the moment she picked me up at the airport, but she refuses to tell me the guy's name. As her friend, I'm guessing, you know the scoop, right?"
"Shanna," Carrie protested.
"Oh, I...well, I mean, you know, that's, uh, that's Carrie's business who she tells. You know, friend confidentiality and all that," Kelly gave a forced laugh.
Ashley laughed, "Well, whoever he is, let's just hope he doesn't turn out to be gay like the last one."
Kate hit Kelly's back as she choked on her water.
Carrie looked at Ashley in shock.
"What? I'm talking about Chase."
Kelly narrowed her eyes at her best friend.
"My bad..."
"So, um," Carrie cut in, her voice a little shaky. "Who's up for dessert, yea?"
Kelly glanced at her phone, "Actually, I've got to be heading back."
"Already?" Carrie looked at her, disappointed.
"Yea, we only have the studio for another hour, and I've got to finish that song. I'm gonna go wash my hands."
Carrie locked eyes with her, standing as well, "I'll come with you."

Carrie smiled as she locked the bathroom door behind her.
Kelly stepped forward, bringing a hand up to trace along the other blonde's jaw line, "Hey."
"The song really is great," Carrie wrapped her arms around her.
"Your sister's nice. Sorry about Ashley though; she just can't help it sometimes."
"It's ok. I doubt Shanna noticed. So, I'm guessing Jill and Kate took it well?"
"Um, well, Kate did. I didn't tell Jill though."
"Why not?"
"Kate said it probably wasn't a good idea," Kelly frowned.
"I'm sorry," Carrie said gently.
"I missed you last night."
"I missed you too," she nodded, leaning forward and kissing her softly.
Kelly cupped her face, drawing her closer as she reached up on her toes, pushing into her before pulling back with a smile. "Missed that too."
"Definitely," Carrie agreed.
"I really do have to get back."
"I know," she replied, giving her a quick kiss before reaching up to kiss her forehead as well. "I'll call you tonight."
"Ok. Have fun with your sister."
"Thanks," Carrie kissed her once more before unlocking the door and allowing her to pass back through first.

"So...?" Kelly asked as she rode back to the studio with Ashley and Kate. "What did y'all think?"
"Her sister's really old," Ashley replied.
"Ok," she laughed. "I get that."
"She seems nice though."
"Yea, I thought so too. What about you Kate? What's the verdict on Carrie?"
"I like her," Kate nodded. "She's really sweet. Y'all look cute together."
"Yea?"
"Yea. Especially when y'all came back from the bathroom and were totally trying to hide the fact that y'all just made out."
"Shut up," Kelly hit her playfully.
"No, but seriously, I do like her. You found a good one this time."
"Thanks," she smiled. "And I almost forgot..."
"What the hell?" Ashley fussed as Kelly punched her arm.
"Really, Ash? You had to make the gay comment?"
Ashley laughed as Kate tried to hide her smirk, "Oh, come on, you know if Shanna wasn't there, you'd have teased Carrie as well."
"Well, yea, but Shanna was there."
"Kelly...relax. The lunch went great. Shanna seemed to really like you. That's good."
"I know," Kelly sighed. "I just don't want her to freak when Carrie tells her. I don't want Care to have to go through that, especially if I'm not there."
"Aw," Kate smiled. "Look who's gone all soft on us now."
"Yea, yea," Kelly laughed, rolling her eyes.
"Hey," Kate got her attention. "Happiness suits you well."
Kelly smiled broadly, shaking her head.
