**PART 11**

Marshall sat in the limo watching his daughter and…what was he supposed to call Ally? What was she exactly to him? A friend, fuck buddy…girlfriend? Did he dare think of her as his girlfriend? Did he even want to? He’d known her for almost a day now and yet he felt he was closer to her than he had been with any other female in his life…including Kim. The relationship he’d had with Kim wasn’t what someone would call normal. In fact it was so far from normal it was almost sick. It was something based on pain and passion. It was insanity at its finest. The only good thing that had ever come out of his relationship with Kim was Hailie. His daughter was the only thing Marshall would ever thank for her. It shouldn’t have taken him so long to figure out that he and Kim weren’t meant to be. But then again he would be the first to admit how stubborn he was.

Their relationship was unhealthy and very unstable. But that was all he’d been used to. They’d hurt each other, tear each other down until he was sure one of them wouldn’t get back up again and then by some insane miracle, they’d make up and that was where the passion came in. The anger and frustration they had over life and what it threw at them was taken out on each other in bed. The sex was good before a fight but it was great after one too. Marshall wasn’t ashamed to admit to starting more than one argument with her because he knew what was in store for him after it. It was like the more they fought, they more sex they had…and the better it was. He was pretty sure Hailie was even conceived during one of their many violent make up sessions. While it bothered him that his daughter wasn’t brought into the world out of love, Marshall knew that he more than made up for it now. The more he thought about his relationship with Kim, the more he realized what an idiot he was. He was stupid to think he needed to stay with her in order to keep his daughter happy. They were millions of kids out there that lived with only a single parent and they were perfectly fine. Some of them probably very well off in their lives. It was just a shame it had taken him so long to figure that out.

So many years he’d wasted on her. Trying to put her back together and keep himself in one piece all at the same time. It was a tiring job, one he gladly walked away from without a second thought.

Now there was another woman in his life, one who he could see himself really caring for. Part of him wanted to believe he was only interested in her because he knew she wasn’t after him for the money. She wasn’t an actress and he knew she couldn’t have faked everything they had gone through in the past day. But the logical part of him also knew that there was an attraction between him. There were plenty of tables he could have sat at yesterday in the coffee shop…hell he could have even run out of the shop before the girl had even taken two steps in his direction, but he didn’t. Marshall had looked at Ally and for some reason chose to take the chance on her and he had a feeling it was going to be for more than just a chance to escape a fan.

*~*~*~*~*

Ally watched Marshall sitting across from her. He was slumped back on the seat, his legs spread wide with one arm bent behind his head and the other draped across his stomach. He wasn’t really looking at anything in particular. At first she had felt his eyes on her and Hailie as they talked, but when she had looked up they were focused on the thick black screen that separated them from the driver. Obviously she didn’t know him very well, but she could tell he had something on his mind. Not for the first time that day, she wondered if he wanted her to be there. He was a very confusing man. His emotions seemed to run hot and cold and she never knew which one would be the winning mood. She wasn’t used to dealing with anyone other than the Westing children’s mood swings. She had no family that lived in the area and she certainly didn’t have time for friends. Her life revolved around those two kids and their demanding mother. A man’s mixed emotions were new to her and Marshall was a very complex man. She didn’t think she minded the little bit of mystery he would surly provide in her life, but she hated not knowing what to expect.

What took place last night with him was something she had never expected. It went against everything she had believed in for so long. She knew there was something special about him. Something she couldn’t explain exactly, but she knew it deep inside. She wouldn’t regret what happened between them, even if whatever they had going here didn’t work out. And as much as she wanted to believe they could keep going as they were, she also knew his place wasn’t in California. The more she thought about it, the more saddened she became. Logically she knew long distance relationships didn’t work out all that well. Sure they could try it for awhile. But with his popularity and probably very busy schedule there would be very little time to get together.

Ally took a deep breath and tried not to think about the inevitable. She would enjoy the time they spent together for now and would try not to let it break her heart when he left to go back home.

*~*~*~*~*

Marshall was brought out of his thoughts by the soft sigh Ally let out. Looking over at her, he noticed a small frown on her face and watched as she played with the edge of the seat she was sitting on distractedly. At some point Hailie had moved her self over to the end of the bench was currently listening to music on a pair of headphones as she watched the scenery pass them by. He smiled gently as he watched her bop her head to some unknown beat, before looking back at Ally.

“You ok?”

Startled, Ally looked up with wide eyes. “I’m fine.”

“You sure? ‘Cause you look worried or something.”

She paused for a long moment before smiling softly. “I was just thinking about everything.”

Marshall nodded for a moment and looked at Hailie again. She wasn’t paying attention to them of course so he slid over to Ally’s side of the limo and wrapped an arm around her.

“So what’s everything?” He asked softly.

“J-Just everything that’s happened in the past day. Its all very…unreal for me.”
Marshall pondered that for a moment. She was acting a bit strange, almost like she didn’t want to talk to him.

“Are you…Is this all ok with you?”

“What?”

“I mean things...”Marshall paused again and looked at an oblivious Hailie. “Things moved pretty fast last night and I just wanna make sure this is all ok with you. I don’t want to mess anything up for you.”

“You’re not messing anything up Marshall. To be honest I was just…thinking about how so much has changed for me within the last 24 hours. I…I don’t know what else to think about you know? Like…everything is rushing up to me right now. I don’t know how to make sense of it all.” Ally giggled nervously.

“Is that a good thing?”

“I’d like to think so…but… I don’t think this is the place to have a serious conversation, but then I…I’m just worried about what happens when you go home Marshall. I know you said we could try having a relationship and to be honest, I’d really like that a lot. But I’m not stupid, it’s finally hitting me that this won’t be normal. I mean besides the obvious fact that you’re famous, we know next to nothing about each other and we live on opposite sides of the country…I think…where do you live anyway?” Ally rambled for a minute before taking a deep breath and looking up at him imploringly.

“How is this gonna work Marshall?”
