Chapter Ten
“Thank you Emmy! Thank you thank you thank you!” Bridget screamed as she jumped up and down. If there was one time she truly loved her cousin, it was right now. She couldn’t believe at first when Emmy said they were going to the Westlife concert. But now that she was here, she was having a blast.
Emmy laughed as she put her hands on Bridget’s shoulders. “Your welcome. Besides Kian told me that you had to come. He was really happy that you came with me.” She was actually glad that Bridget came too. The concert was turning out to be even better than she expected.
When the boys first came out, Emmy’s jaw dropped at the stage outfits they wore. They looked like they popped right out of the movie, Mission: Impossible. When Kian spotted her, his face lit up with a huge grin. From then on, he never took his eyes off of her. She tried to ignore how the muscles of his chest strained against the black shirt, or how his black cargo pants hung teasingly off of his hips.
The kiss they shared earlier was starting to open her eyes to just how much Kian could affect her. During If I let You Go, Kian kept a smirk on his face as he danced, once again never taking his eyes off of her. But it was during Tonight that Kian really got her attention. As he tried to get the crowd going, as he sang along with Bryan, he looked right into her eyes as he sang the line about making love. Now they were backstage doing one of their many costume changes.
“Here they come Emmy.” Bridget pointed out.
Both Emmy and Bridget watched as Mark came out, joking with Kian. This time the boys were all dressed very casually with jeans and tee shirts on. As they sat down on the worn leather couch, Kian picked up his guitar. Shane followed and when he spotted Bridget, he winked. Emmy laughed as Bridget blushed. “Aww looks like you have a new friend.”
“No, it looks like you do.” Bridget laughed as Mark walked to the edge of the stage and gave a small wave to Emmy.
Emmy grinned as she waved back to Mark. She watched as Mark began talking to the audience about the next part of the show. The boys would be doing some of their songs acoustically with Kian and Bryan on guitars, their bass player and a guy on the bongos. Immediately her eyes went over to Kian. It had been a long time since she heard him play. Giggling to herself, she remembered his first guitar. She found that he was looking back at her with a secret smile on his face. As Mark walked back to the boys, the strains of My Love began to play.
As Kian played the song, he watched Bryan singing. Here was another song that reminded him of his Emmy. He looked out over the crowd and locked eyes with Emmy again. He hoped she was enjoying the show. He was so nervous tonight. This wasn’t any other show. Emmy was here and watching him. Seeing the softness in her eyes, he couldn’t contain his smile. Tonight the crowd didn’t matter. Tonight he was performing for an audience of one.
Emmy gave Kian a reassuring smile when Bridget nudged her. She looked down at her cousin. “What’s going on?”
“Come on, we are goin’ onstage with the lads.” Bridget giggled excitedly.
“What?” Emmy asked in surprise.
“Didn’t ya hear what Mark was sayin’? Some fans are goin’ up on the stage, and we are two of em.” Bridget tugged on her sleeve.
Emmy began to follow Bridget and the security guard as she heard Bop Bop Baby start. “What do you mean we are going up onstage?” She yelled in her cousin’s ear to be heard over the noise.
“Kian is gonna flip.” Bridget laughed as she pulled Emmy behind her.
“You can say that again.” Emmy muttered as she followed the small group that was being led backstage.
“Now when ya go up on the stage, four of ya will sit by Bryan and the other four will sit by Mark.” The security guard was yelling back to the small group. Then he stopped and turned to look at Bridget and Emmy. “I’m under orders to have ya two sit by Kian.” He grinned.
Emmy looked at Bridget with narrowed eyes. “You wouldn’t have anything to do with this would you?”
“Me? Why would ya say that?” Bridget asked innocently.
“Last time I leave you alone with Shane and the boys.” Emmy pushed Bridget ahead as she moved past her and began to climb the steps.
As Emmy reached the top of the stairs, there was Shane waiting for her. “Just what are you up to, Filan?” She looked up at him.
“Just havin’ a craic.” Shane couldn’t hide his laughter as he held out his hand to help her on the stage. He smiled down at the other girls as they all began to file past him onto the stage.
Emmy was extremely nervous as she and Bridget began to walk over to where the boys were. Trying to be casual, she walked over to the large burgundy pillow that lay on the stage floor. When Mark saw her, he burst out into a big smile. Nicky hung his head as his shoulders shook from silent laughter. When Bryan saw her, he just winked. She could instantly feel Kian’s eyes on her as she sat down. Bridget sat next to her. Turning her head, Emmy came face to face with Kian. His eyes were twinkling with amusement. He had on a cheeky smirk as he leaned down to whisper to her. “Need a closer view, Little One?”
“You know me, I can’t ever get enough of you.” She raised her eyebrows up and down playfully.
Kian chuckled as he grasped his guitar. “I’ll have to remember that.”
Emmy hugged her knees as Shane was talking to the audience. Looking out over the crowd, her eyes widened. How Kian could go out and sing in front of all these people night after night was beyond her. She instantly had a bigger appreciation for all of his talent and skills. Never before had she been prouder of him.
Kian knew he should have been paying more attention to the music, but he couldn’t stop staring at her. He had no idea that Emmy would be one of the girls to join them on stage. As he looked over at Shane, he grinned as his friend grinned back. He would have to thank Shane for everything later. Moving his eyes back to Emmy a slow lazy grin replaced his smirk.
Tonight she had really gone all out. Wearing a pair of black low riding jeans, he couldn’t help but notice how they hugged her body. But it was the crimson colored halter top that really had his attention. With straps that crossed around her neck, the shirt dipped enough to give him a stunning view of her ample breasts as they pushed against the material. Her hair was pinned back with tendrils framing her face. Leaning down he whispered in her ear. “Remember what I told ya about clothes like that, Emma Marie McAllistair.”
Emmy’s head popped up and she looked at Kian. When she saw the grin on his face, she knew instantly what he meant. Then she raised her eyebrows. “But are ye man enough to come take it, Kian John Francis Egan?” She imitated his Irish brogue.
Kian’s eyes widened with shock. Was she saying what he thought she was saying? Luckily for him, it was time to play the next song so he didn’t have to come with an answer right away. They would finish this later, much later. Leaning back against the arm of the couch, Kian smiled at her as he began to strum his guitar.
Laughing to herself, Emmy shook her head. Finally she had managed to shock him. It wasn’t often that she could get Kian like that, so she took it when she could. Then she heard the next song. Her eyes flew up to his. The next song was Queen of My Heart. She watched as Kian concentrated on playing the guitar as Bryan sang softly. She was amazed as the crowd began to sing along. They knew every word. A tiny part of her wanted to shout out just how proud she was of Kian.
Then it was Shane’s turn to sing. With Bridget sitting next to him, he enlisted her to sing with him. Emmy giggled as her cousin blushed as she began to sing softly with Shane. Shane had thrown his arm around her and they were both sharing the microphone as they sang.
That’s when the chorus started again. Turning back to look at Kian, Emmy found that he had been staring at her. Then as if singing only to her, he looked deep into her eyes. This was really becoming their song. It nearly brought tears to her eyes as she watched Kian put so much emotion into his performance. With the song ending, she unconsciously put her hand on Kian’s knee. She could feel the stares of the other girls who sat with her, but she didn’t care.
Bryan stood up and went back to his guitar as he spoke to the crowd. Emmy went to go speak to Bridget when she felt a hand settle on top of her’s. She turned her head and saw Kian smiling down at her. Squeezing her hand, he let it go as he began to play the next song. Recognizing it, Emmy couldn’t help but laugh. Taking his microphone, Shane’s strong voice rang out as he began to sing, To Be With You.
Kian played his guitar with passion as he looked down at Emmy. To have her here tonight was something special. Tonight every song had a secret meaning, and this song was no exception. When it was his turn to sing the chorus, Kian locked eyes with her. It was as if the song were speaking for him. When she came to him earlier, he knew then that he wanted…no needed more than friendship. She was the only one who understood him. She seemed to be the only one who could soothe the savage beast that lived inside of him. Looking right at her, Kian began to sing directly at her.
When the song ended, Emmy had to control the urge to wrap her arms around him. But here was not the place to do it. The boys stood up and as Kian brushed against her, he leaned down. “I’ll be right back, Little One. You’ll love the next part.” He winked as he walked towards the back.
Standing up, Emmy saw Bridget just smiling away. “Don’t say a word.” She cautioned the younger girl.
“Wasn’t gonna say anythin’.” Bridget laughed as she followed Emmy.
Heading back with the others, Emmy wondered what Kian meant by the next part. As they walked back to their seats, she chewed her lower lip. It seemed that this trip was full of surprises. Everything was so up in the air, she didn’t know exactly what to think anymore.
“Oh my god.” Bridget laughed.
Emmy’s head snapped up just as the music started again. She was just in time to see the boys, now in all white with jackets with their faces emblazoned on the back. Looking up just in time, she saw the boys shaking their asses as they sang, I Get Around. She joined in the laughter as she watched Kian singing along as he moved his body. Getting into the feel of the song, Emmy and Bridget began to dance along.
Kian loved this part of the show. It was a chance to let it all go and just have fun. Shaking his hips, the music switched as Bryan began singing, Do You Love Me. Singing along, Kian looked down at Emmy as he started gyrating his body. Seeing the smile on her face made his heart soar. Then as Shane started singing, Twist and Shout, Kian and the boys started doing the Twist. Shaking his hips, he and Mark began putting on a show for Emmy and Bridget. “Ya know ya look so good!” He sang loud down to Emmy.
Emmy laughed as she watched Kian. He was incredible. He seemed to have a natural stage presence. There was always a smile on his face. Watching Bryan make faces down at her, she started clapping along. Bridget was nearly doubling over in laughter as she watched Shane sing. Then when they all turned around and started shaking their asses, Emmy couldn’t resist and let out a huge whistle. When Kian turned around, she winked at him and blew him a kiss.
But when Mark grabbed his mic and the new music started, Emmy stopped dead in her tracks. “Ladies and Gentleman, Mr. Kian Egan!” Mark shouted.
Emmy’s jaw dropped as she watched Kian pull off his jacket and sent it flying behind him. The tank he wore was nearly saturated with sweat and was plastered to his broad chest. His hair was messed up giving him that sexy just woke up out of bed look. His muscular arms shone in the light as they were covered with a fine sheen of sweat. Then he began to sing, Great Balls of Fire. Immediately he looked down and found Emmy.
Watching him dance up there, and sing to her and only her, Emmy started giggling. Then when he went down on his knees, he pointed right at her as he sang. Moving his body to the beat, his eyes flashed with sexy amusement as he stared at her. As he got up he began to dance with the rest of the boys.
“Ya can’t tell me it’s just friends!” Bridget yelled at her over the music.
“I have no idea what it is!” Emmy yelled back.
“It sure as hell isn’t friends!” Bridget laughed as the next song started.
It was Mark’s turn to sing solo, and the song he chose was Kiss by Prince. Yet Emmy’s eyes were on Kian. By now she could tell he was having way too much fun with this. Watching him dance, she could see just how well he could move his body. Each song so far in the concert touched her in a particular way, and this was no exception. She could feel Kian’s eyes on her as sang. She could see the passion in his eyes as he looked directly at her as he sang.
You don’t have to be rich to be my girl
You don’t have to be cool to rule my world
Ain’t no particular sign I’m more compatible with
I just want your extra time and your kiss
Seeing the playful expression in his eyes, Emmy could also see that he was dead serious. Once again the kisses they shared flooded her brain. It was as if she could still taste Kian. His words came back to her also. What harm was there in seeing if there was more than friendship between them? Taking a deep breath Emmy knew that the next steps would be tricky. She and Kian would have to tread very carefully.
After they introduced the musicians, the boys sang one last chorus before they started to end the song. Kian was at the edge of the stage, but once again the only person he was performing for was his Emmy. She was the only one who mattered tonight. As he winked at her, he mouthed “It ain’t over yet, Little One.” He chuckled as he and the boys started to descend on the trap door. He saw her give a little wave as he disappeared.
* * * * * *
“Well the show’s over. I suppose we should go back and find the boys.” Emmy reached for her purse.
“Didn’t ya hear Kian before the flyin’ stage part?” Bridget tugged on her arm. “It’s not over.”
Before Emmy could say anything the lights started going crazy as a strong drumbeat began signaling the start of another song. Her eyes widened as the opening to Uptown Girl began. “Well if this isn’t the story of your life.” Bridget yelled in her ear.
Emmy shoved her cousin as her eyes focused on Kian. If she thought he looked good in his different stage outfits, nothing compared to the suit he wore. Snug black trousers showed off his body, along with the crisp white button down shirt straining across his chest. The matching black suit jacket topped it all off.
As Kian stood on top of the stage, he quickly found Emmy. Singing along, he reached out to her with the lyrics. Once upon a time, Emmy was the spoiled little rich girl who he thought was too good for him. Then they became friends. Now money was no longer an issue. But sometimes Kian still felt like the little country boy from Ireland, never quite good enough for his little rich girl. As he sang his solo part, he pointed right at the object of his thoughts.
Bridget was watching Shane and couldn’t stop smiling. “Why couldn’t I be old enough for him?”
Emmy busted out laughing as she hugged her cousin. “Well I don’t think that Gilly would appreciate you hitting on her boyfriend, either.”
Uptown Girl ended and Emmy couldn’t stop clapping. When Kian walked to the edge of the stage in front of her, he blew her a kiss. He winked at Bridget. As What Makes A Man began to play, he did a quick turn modeling his suit for Emmy. He laughed as she gave him a big thumbs up as she whistled.
With Shane singing the first verse of the song, Kian swayed back and forth as he kept his eyes on Emmy. God she was beautiful. Never before had he wanted a concert over with. All he wanted was to spend time with Emmy. Suddenly he wanted to slow dance with her again, feel her arms wrapped around him. Then he joined in with Shane and began to sing. The lyrics had so much more meaning, especially tonight, than they ever had before.
Any other girl, I'd let you walk away
Any other girl, I'm sure I'd be ok
Blowing him a kiss, Emmy could see the smile on Kian’s face widen. Every time she thought she had the upper hand, Kian would surprise her. Now was hardly an exception. As the chorus started Kian pointed down at her as he sang with all his heart. She could see the pure emotion in his eyes as reached out to her.
Tell me what makes a man wanna give you all his heart
Smile when you’re around and cry when you’re apart
If you know what makes a man wanna love you the way I do
Girl you gotta let me know so I can get over you
The tears formed quickly in her eyes as Emmy looked up at Kian. She knew then, without him actually having to say it. She knew. He was starting to fall for her hard. The way he reached out to her tonight went way beyond a performer putting on the best show. She could see the way Kian put all of his heart and soul into the songs, just for her. Yet it was one single thought that shook her to the core. She knew then, she was starting to fall for him also.
