Surprise!

Several months after Pirates 3 was released and promotion died down, Orlando and I were married. It was a gorgeous ceremony with us surrounded by friends and family glowing as much as us. We held two ceremonies, one in San Diego and one in London. One would think that would drive a bride crazy but Orlando made sure that I did not lift a finger. His sister, Sam, was more than happy to marry off her younger sibling. She told us it was about time.

We settled into our lives as husband and wife. He worked on a new script as I started a new book. We both knew that soon he would leave for another shoot. The difference was that he had my heart encased in the ring on his finger. We were sitting outside by the pool when a delivery man knocked on the fence. Orlando jumped up and greeted the man who handed him a letter. He walked back to me with a smile. “What it is baby?” Orlando sat down next to me while handing it to me. It was embossed in gold. The ivory letter was addressed to Mrs. Katerina Bloom. I looked up at Orlando who beamed from ear to ear. “Is this what I think it is?” He shook his head, “Don’t know love … open it.” I shakily opened the letter and pulled out heavy parchment. The letter read, “We are please to inform you that you have been nominated for an Academy Award. The award is for screenwriting for “Cyberlove.” WHAT! I was so sure that this was a mistake. I looked at Orlando’s gleaming eyes. “You deserve it baby! It is a great story.” I jumped up and screamed. “ORLANDO! I was nominated for an Academy Award! BABY!” He jumped up to hug me tight. “I am so proud of you!”

The evening of the Academy Awards, Orlando and I walked down the red carpet as we had done several times before. We were told several times that marriage agreed with us. Orlando would answer by kissing my cheek and holding me close. As we sat in the seats watching the show, I began to feel really sick. “Orlando.” I whispered, “I don’t feel real well.” He tightly squeezed my hand. “You are nervous love. It doesn’t matter if you win … I love you the same.” I knew that this night would be something we would never forget. An Academy Award would just be icing on the cake.

“Katerina Bloom for ‘Cyberlove.’’ I sat there stunned for a minute. Orlando kissed me and told me to get my ass up there to get my award. As I walked up to the stage, I passed Viggo, Dominic, and Elijah, who ran over to me and hugged me tight. I slipped a note into Viggo’s hand, who nodded his head that he understood. I reached the stage and looked back to see Orlando standing straight up and screaming my name. I was handed the award and approached the podium. “God this is heavy.” The crowd laughed. “This year has been amazing to me that I cannot put it into words.” I could feel the tears filling my eyes. “This story was from my heart. I cannot thank everyone enough that helped to make this a reality for me. I want to thank a couple people though who stood by me along the way. To the gang, and you know who you are …” Dominic and Elijah yelled out. “Thank you for always making me laugh. To Yoda, I mean Viggo, thank you for opening my eyes.” At that moment, Viggo got out of his seat and handed Orlando the note. He opened the small envelope which held a small white napkin. He took out the napkin as Viggo looked on. He looked up sharply and met my eyes. “And last but definitely first in my life; Orlando … the answer is ‘Yes.’”

I began to walk off the stage but was stop by Orlando flinging himself onto the stage. He spun me around while holding me close to him. The audience clapped and cheered even though they had no idea what was going on. Orlando stopped in front of the podium, “I am going to be a daddy!” The audience cheered even louder led by Viggo, Dominic, Elijah, Johhny, Kiera, and others who knew us personally. We ran off the stage to chants of congratulations. Orlando did not let go of me. In his hand, the napkin was crumbled under the emotion. It read one word … DADDY!
