Chapter 11
xx Skylar
I remember after you proposed we decided then and there that we didn't want to wait to get married. I remember when you told the guys that you were finally settling down. At first they didn't believe you, calling your bluff – but you stuck by it and convinced them that this was it, this was what you really wanted. I remember the hugs they gave you. They were really happy for you, for us.
For so long I had been waiting to find someone worth my time, worth my efforts, worth my tears, and worth my love. It was you, Lauri. You were the one I was destined to become one with. And looking back, I wouldn't want anyone else. You taught me things too, you know. To fight for what you believe in, never to give up, and to keep striving for something greater than what's been handed to you; yet finding the balance to cherish what you do have already.
I don't know what you remember of our wedding. Wanting to marry before our child was born so that all of us could share the same last name, we married three months after your proposal. I remember you becoming so frustrated with the wedding. Everyday it was something and by the first month you were completely exhausted talking about it. But we worked through it, just like you said we would. And what a beautiful day it was. I'm glad we married in Helsinki. After all, it became my home.
September 15, 2006 was when we made our union official. I didn't think you'd cry, Lauri. But you proved me wrong. I remember walking down the aisle beside my Daddy, holding onto him for dear life. It was beautiful, romantic, and…perfect for us. The moment our eyes met, that's when you lost it. Be it nerves or whatever, you made me loose it too you know. You looked so handsome in your tux, standing at the alter – waiting for me to come to you.
Our families and friends gathered before us, we clasped hands and stood before them professing our love to the world. I remember inviting some cameras inside. It had taken you much convincing but in the end I decided why the hell not? The fans would find out sooner or later – and if I was going to be with you as your partner, I should learn to get used to it sooner rather than later.
When we were pronounced husband and wife, butterflies swelled in my stomach. When we kissed as officially married I remember feeling free and open to adventure. The next chapter of our lives was just opened and I don't know about you, but I was ready for it.
The reception was a night I'll never forget. Dancing until midnight and beyond, we had the time of our lives. You always said you were horrible at dancing, but that night you were amazing. Dipping me low so my head nearly touched the floor beneath us, holding me tightly in your arms, you dazzled me Lauri. You always found ways to take my breathe away without even knowing it. I kept looking at your left finger, searching for the gift I had given to you just hours previous. I caught it on several occasions making sure it was still on your finger – scared that if I looked away too long it would be an illusion, a dream that I'd wake up from any minute. But every time I saw it I smiled. You were mine. And I was yours. And I loved you so much.
That night we boarded a plane and took off from Finland to Paris. I had told you how badly I wanted to see France ever since my childhood. You never let me down. You promised to show me the world, and you didn't ever break your promises.
It was a lovely honeymoon, taking up two weeks of our time. When we came back home to Finland that's when life began to go back to normal. You recorded much of the time and I would be stuck at our new house that you had previously built yourself. But I was content with staying at home, working on the house that had just gotten finished a few weeks before our wedding. It was getting harder for me to move around and do things. My big belly was constantly in the way and it felt like I was ready to pop any day.
I loved it when you arrived home at night. Even though it would be midnight or later when you walked through the door, it was always nice to have you greet me with a kiss. You'd always make sure to touch my belly, rubbing your hands over the roundness. It was nice to hear you make cooing noises, telling our child how much you loved it and how you couldn't wait to meet it.
We were becoming a family, and that was the most important thing to me. It was all that was important to me.
xx Lauri
Do you remember when you went into labor? I was at Dynasty jamming with the guys when my mobile rang. Stopping the music I walked into the other room.
"Baby? What's wrong?" I asked.
"I'm…Lauri…I'm…" you were panting hard and then you screamed bloody murder.
"What's happening? Is someone hurting you?" I asked my voice frantic. I began digging in my pockets for my car keys.
"I think my water broke…" I heard you say. Oh God!
"I'm coming baby…hang on," and hung up rushing back into the studio. "I've got to get out of here. Sky's water broke," I announced and grabbed my jacket throwing it over my shoulders. The guys looked at each other with wide eyes and looked at me.
"We're coming too," Aki said and all of my friends rushed out of the studio and into my car.
We got you to Helsinki's hospital in the nick of time. When we got you seen and set up we found out that you were well on your way to having the baby. But nothing could have prepared me for the moment that the doctor's told you to start pushing. Gripping my hand I urged you on and the room sounded with your painful screams. I remember when you looked at me, breathing hard. Your hair was soaked to your sweaty forehead, and you gave me a look that said, is this really happening? I'm scared. It's a look that's embedded in my memory for all time because it allowed me to see your fears. I smiled at you and squeezed your hand as you pushed again.
With a final scream and push, my breath was knocked out of me when I saw my baby being pulled out of you and lifted into the air. You laied back in the bed breathing hard. I ran a cool washcloth over your hot forehead and leaned down to kiss the water.
"You did it sweetheart," I said softly to you. "I'm so proud of you." You rolled your head to the side and looked at me weakly.
"I love you," you whispered faintly. I rubbed your arm.
"I love you too," I said and looked up when the nurse walked over to me.
"Congrats. It's a girl," the nurse said and looked at me. "Would you like to cut the umbilical cord?"
"Sure," I said and took the scissors from her. She pointed to where I could cut and I did, removing the cord. I looked down at you. You looked at our daughter.
"Can I hold her?" you asked.
"For a few moments Mrs. Ylonen," the nurse said. "We have to look over your daughter after," she said and handed the child to you.
"She's so tiny," you said holding her in your arms. "What do you want to name her?" I smiled at you.
"I thought you picked out the girl's name already," I said.
"But is it what you want? Would you rather a Finnish name?" you asked.
"I don't mind as long as she's healthy which she looks fine to me," I said and reached my arms out. "My turn," I said as you handed the small baby to me. Lifting her in my arms I looked down at her. "Moi," I said to the infant. "Daddy's here and Daddy loves you."
"Have you decided on a name so we can write it on the baby crib?" another nurse asked me. I looked at you and back at the baby.
"Yes we have a name," I said for us. "We want her name to be Jayde Eeva Ylonen," I told her. "But make sure you spell Jayde J-a-y-d-e," I spelt out so she'd get it correct.
"A beautiful name," the nurse said and I handed the baby to her. She went off with our daughter to do what they needed to do.
"I hope you mind I made her middle name Finnish," I said to you. You looked up at me and smiled.
"I don't care, just as long as she's healthy," you said reaching for me. With wires and tubes running in and out of your body you touched my arm. "I love her middle name," you said. I smiled.
"I'm going to tell the guys the news," I said. "They've been waiting outside this entire time." You nodded and I walked out the door. The guys stood up when they saw me and I walked over to them.
"I'm a father," I told them.
"Boy or girl?" Eero asked. I smiled.
"A girl," I announced. "Her name's Jayde Eeva Ylonen." Pauli slapped my back and smiled at me.
"Look at you," he said grinning like an idiot. "I've never seen you glow like this before. Well…only after you've gotten laid but still," he said. I laughed.
"Shut the hell up," I said.
"Let's go out and celebrate," Aki said embracing me.
"I can't," I said. "I want to be here with my family," I told him. Aki's face dropped a bit.
"I forgot – things are changing," he said sadly.
"Yes they are, but I'll still be the same Lauri. We're still a team and I still love you," I told him. We embraced.
"Congrats Lauri," Eero said giving me a warm hug.
"Thanks guys," I said. "I really should check on my wife," I said pointing to the door. "I'll catch up with you later."
"If you need anything let us know," Pauli shouted as I walked back to the door. I waved them away with my hand.
"He's really changed," Aki said.
"Yeah but it's in the right direction," Eero said smiling at the closed door. "He's finally got what he's wanted all his life; his own family to take care of."
