Chapter 11: Showered with Love
∞♥♥♥♥∞
“I can hardly wait until we’re holding our twins in our arms,” I said to Chris as we pulled into the driveway of Jordin’s home. She was letting us live with her for a couple weeks; just until Isabella went into labor. Isabella was in her ninth month now, so she could have the twins at any moment. We just didn’t want to be stuck in Seattle when she went into labor. Chris and I both wanted to be there when our babies were born.
Chris smiled. “I can hardly wait either. I want to look into their eyes, and tell them how much I love them.”
I smiled in return, took his hand, and gently squeezed it.
He squeezed it back. “I wish Jordin would have agreed to go out with us tonight. I feel bad. She’s letting us live in her house, so I wanted to take her out to dinner and a movie to thank her.”
I nodded. “Well, she just got back from her tour. She was tired. I can understand. At least it gave us a chance to have some time alone together before the babies are born. Who knows how long we have before they’re born? Going to dinner and the movie with just me wasn’t so bad, was it?” I asked.
He grinned. “No, but it would have been even better if I could have ravished you in the theater.”
I laughed. “I don’t know what was stopping you. It was dark in there, and people were either paying attention to each other or the movie.”
He smirked. “Maybe next time.”
I unlocked the door with the key Jordin had given us, and walked in. Chris and I had felt weird about just walking in at first, but she had insisted that we do, so we did. “Man, she could have at least left a light on for us,” I said as we entered the dark house.
“She must have been tried! It’s only ten-thirty,” Chris said right before I turned on a light.
“Surprise!”
Chris and I both jumped as we heard a collection of familiar voices yelling surprise at us.
I looked around and saw a good majority of our friends. The rest of the top ten from our season were there. There was also our other friends Brandon, Ace, Elliott, Elliott’s wife, Blue, Madrena, Ginger, Kristi, Andrea, Cisco, Ethan, KJ, and even, much to our surprise, Leslie and Alaina.
“What is this?” Chris asked with huge smile on his face.
I was grinning too—so much that my face was beginning to hurt.
“Well, we figured you’re going to need a lot of things for the babies. You’ve already got a lot of things, but with twins, you can never have enough, right? So, I decided to throw you guys a baby shower. Everyone has been such a great help,” Jordin explained.
“You guys didn’t have to do this! This is so sweet of you. Thank you.” I ran over to Jordin and hugged her tightly.
“Yeah. You’re so good to us. What did we ever do to deserve it?” Chris asked. He hugged Jordin as I moved to Haley.
“Are you kidding me? You’ve always been great friends to all of us,” Jordin said.
The others voiced their agreement.
"I would have invited Isabella, but thought it might be sad for her since she won't be keeping her babies," Jordin then added.
"That's okay. You're probably right," I said.
Chris nodded his agreement.
Chris and I got to Alaina and Leslie last.
“And here are the two who are responsible for us being together in the first place. I owe you guys the most,” I said, hugging Leslie.
Chris hugged Alaina, then we switched.
Leslie grinned. “I know how to play a good game of truth or dare is all.”
Alaina nodded. “And we both could tell you guys were into each other. You two were constantly staring at each other with that longing look. It didn’t take a genius to see how badly you two wanted each other.”
“But what was the deal not inviting us to your wedding, punks?” Leslie asked us.
Chris and I both blushed.
“I’m sorry. We weren’t sure where you were, and we were so busy with the wedding. I guess we should have tried harder to find you. Someone obviously did now.”
“Brandon looked me up, and I was already in contact with Leslie,” Alaina explained. “And don’t worry about it. We understand. At least we got to come to your baby shower, right? We can make sure to stay in touch this time.”
“Definitely,” Chris agreed. He hugged her again, and then Leslie. “It’s so good to see you both again!”
“We'll all have to go dancing together again,” I said, remembering that first night the four of us had gone out. Leslie had wanted me, and Alaina had clearly wanted Chris, but Chris and I had only had eyes for each other. Leslie and Alaina had made us dance together.
“All right, let’s get this party started!” Jordin said.
Sligh started singing The Black Eyes Peas’ “Let’s Get It Started,” and the rest of the guys joined in.
Chris and I laughed, and shook our heads. This was going to be one hell of a party. I could tell already.

“All right, first, we might as well pig out on snacks and mingle. I know you guys just had dinner, but we have the cutest deviled eggs that Sligh made. I’m sure they are good even though they look disgusting,” Jordin said.
Blake and I cast glances at the eggs, and we both made a face. The yellow filling was brown.
Sligh shrugged. “What? It’s only dyed with food coloring. I wanted it to look like messy diapers in honor of the many diapers you will be changing.”
“Charming, Sligh,” I said. I smirked.
“I made the finger sandwiches. Half are ham and American cheese, and the other half are turkey and cheddar cheese. Half are on wheat, and half are on white. There is mayonnaise on some and mustard on the rest. I figured you can’t go wrong with those,” Jordin said. “Then of course I have chips, carrots, celery, French onion dip, vegetable dip, a fruit platter with a strawberry dessert dip, and finally, thanks to Haley and Gina, you have baby cakes.”
Blake smirked. “Baby cakes?”
Haley nodded. “You know there’s those little cake pans? We used those. They are individual cakes, but bigger than cupcakes.”
“We made chocolate cakes, frosted them with peach icing, and used icing pens to draw the baby faces on the cakes,” Gina explained.
Blake and I looked at the cakes, and we both smiled. There were twenty-four little individual cakes. Sure enough, each one was designed to look like a baby face. Half were girls, and half were boys.
“That is so cute!” Blake said.
“It sure is,” I agreed.
“For drinks, we just have sodas and punch. I know you guys like your alcohol, but I didn’t want this party to turn into some drunken party. It’s a baby shower, and I thought it was more appropriate for us all to stay sober,” Jordin explained.
“That’s fine by me. I don’t want to drink as much now that the babies are coming,” I assured her.
Blake nodded. “Same here. I want to be a responsible father.”
I pulled him close and kissed him.
“Now can we please eat? I’m starved!” Sligh asked.
“What’s new?” the rest of the top ten plus Brandon all asked.
Sligh shot us the evil eye, and we all laughed.
“One baby cake per person please. That’s all we made,” Gina called out.
I grabbed one of the girl baby cakes, and Blake grabbed a boy. We grinned at each other.
All the food was good. Even though I had had dinner already, and snacks at the movie theater after that, I still found an appetite to try everything—including both kinds of sandwiches. Blake did too.
After we had our food, Jordin announced that she had a few games for us to play. “All right. The first game is Name that Baby. I have made up a poster board of all of our baby pictures. Blake, Kristi provided me with yours thanks to your parents, and Chris, Blue got yours from your parents and gave it to me. Since I’m the host, I’m not going to be playing. I know who is who anyway. I want you all to take one of these and a pen, and write down next to the corresponding number on the paper whose baby picture you think which baby is.” Jordin handed us all a pen and a piece of paper that had twenty-four numbered, blank spots. The baby board had twenty-four baby photos, each with a number by its side. “Nobody cheat either. Fill out your own papers.”
We all got to work at guessing whose baby picture was whose.
“Gee, Brandon, which one is you?” Sligh asked sarcastically.
“Blue is up there too. There is only one black girl up there, so Jordin’s is the easiest to guess; not mine,” Brandon quipped. “Yours is easy too. I’ll just look for the fattest baby.”
Sligh rolled his eyes. “Hardy, har, har.”
I liked this game. It was fun! Though, of course, I knew my own baby picture, Blake’s, Blue’s, Madrena’s, Sanjaya’s, Jordin’s, and Brandon’s easily.
After we all had our answers, Jordin looked over them. When she finished, she grinned. “Blake and Chris won!”
“That’s not fair. It was rigged!” Sligh joked.
“No, it’s fair. You can look for yourselves. A lot of you mixed up Gina and Haley. Sligh, you mixed up Sanjaya and Brandon after all that.” Jordin rolled her eyes.
Sanjaya laughed. “I’m not black!”
“Close enough,” Sligh said. He held his head up high in defiance.
Sanjaya rolled his eyes. “Brandon is clearly darker than me, ya moron.”
Sligh shot him a nasty look.
“Well, you guys get these for winning,” Jordin told Blake and I. She brought over two candles. Each was shaped like a cinnamon bun and came in an oven-shaped box. Bun in the oven was inscribed on the box.
“Those are so cute!” I said.
“They smell like cinnamon too,” Blake said. He had opened his box and was sniffing the candle.
“Thanks!” We both said, grinning at Jordin.
She grinned back. “You’re welcome.”
“I want one!” Sligh whined.
“You can’t eat it, Sligh. It’s a pretend bun,” Blake joked.
Sligh rolled his eyes.
I grinned, liking this party already.

The next game was a diaper relay. We split up into four teams of six. We lined up into four lines, and the first person in each line had to put on a diaper over their pants (it was an adult diaper). Once they got it on, they had to run to the other end of the room and touch the wall, then run back to the line, undo their diaper, and hand it to the next person, who had to put on the diaper and repeat the process.
Seeing Sligh in a diaper was not exactly the most appealing sight in the world. Thank God the diapers were worn over our pants.
The team that won consisted of Haley, Gina, Sanjaya, Leslie, Alaina, and Brandon. Jordin awarded them with lollypop bouquets that came wrapped in bows. Half the team got pink lollypops in the shape of bottles, and the other half got blue lollypops in the shape of baby feet.
“The pink are strawberry, and the blue are blue raspberry,” Jordin explained.
The team all seemed to have liked their gifts, for they each took out a lollypop and started on it right away.
The final game was called The Cutest Baby game. We all had to vote on our baby pictures, voting on who was the cutest baby. We could not vote for ourselves. We were to write down who we thought was the cutest baby, and put it in the ballot box.
When that was accomplished, Jordin read the votes out loud. Of course I had voted for Chris. Chris had voted for me. In fact, I ended up winning. Sligh got three votes, Elliott’s wife got two, Elliott got one, KJ got one, Chris got six, Haley got two, and Jordin got one. I won with eight votes. My prize was a little trophy in the shape of a silver pacifier that had Cutest Baby engraved on a silver plaque below it.
I grinned. “I’m going to display this proudly in the bedroom,” I said.
“No fair. People just voted for you because you’re the one we’re throwing the party for. You and Chris, and he had the second highest amount of votes,” Sligh said.
“No, I honestly thought Blake was the cutest baby,” Gina said.
Everyone else who voted for Chris or me also insisted they were voting honestly.
“Who did you vote for, Sligh?” I asked.
“Jordin,” Sligh answered.
Jordin grinned. “Thank you, Sligh!” She walked over to where she kept the prizes and took out a bun in the oven candle. She handed him one. “I had two extras anyway. That’s for voting for me.”
He grinned. “Thank you!”
Jordin smiled. “You’re welcome.” She turned to all of us. “Well, that’s it with the games, but you all get these for coming.” She handed out blue notepad and pen sets to the boys, and pink notepad and pen sets to the girls. The pens had a bottle shape clip on the lid, and the notepad had a baby face in the corner—a girl face on the pink notepads, and a boy face on the blue notepads. Jordin gave Chris a pink notepad instead of blue so that we would have one of each.
We all thanked her. She had bought the cutest prizes.
“All right, do you guys want to open your presents before the party ends?” Jordin then asked Chris and me.
I nodded. “Heck yeah!” I loved presents. Even though these weren’t going to be for me, they were going to be for the babies, and to me, that was just as fun.
Chris nodded and grinned. “Yes, please.”
So, Chris and I sat on the love seat and opened the presents as they were handed to us.
Gina and Haley gave us both a photo book. Gina gave Chris a pink one, and Haley gave me a blue one.
“We tried to find a book that was meant for twins, but they are hard to find. I would think they would sell twins photo albums. Oh well. We figured this way you can use a full book for both twins,” Gina explained.
“They’re perfect!” Chris said. “I can already imagine putting a picture in Bliss’ album of me holding Bliss in my arms.”
I smiled at my album as well. “I can hardly wait to start adding the pictures,” I said.
LaKisha gave us two little baskets with bath supplies. One came in pink with a pink stuffed pony made of terry cloth, and the other came in blue with a stuffed terry cloth elephant. Melinda gave us two framed name plaques. In one, Bliss was spelled out with pictures of frogs and ponies, and on the other, Colin was spelled out with pictures of turtles and starfish. We had told her before what the nursery themes were, so she knew what patterns to get.
Kristi and Andrea got us a baby blanket in a baby pink that had Bliss’s name stitched onto it in white. It came with a little stuffed dog. They gave us the same thing for Colin, only the blanket was light blue and had Colin’s name stitched in it in a darker blue. Madrena and Blue gave us another bath set. Colin’s had a frog on it, and Bliss’ had a turtle. It was a little backwards if we were going by nursery theme, but Madrena told us it was just the way they came. The set included a hooded towel, a wash cloth, tiny bath slippers, and a box to put the set it. They were adorable sets.
The bath gifts weren’t over yet. Elliott and his wife gave us two huge baskets filled with baby shampoos and conditioners, soaps, towels washcloths, q-tips, stuffed ducks, rubber ducks, baby brushes, and bubble bath. Ginger gave us a pink baby bathtub and a blue baby bathtub. We really did have the best friends in the world, I knew. I also knew that Chris and I were going to have the best babies in the world. Also the cleanest babies in the world…

I loved all the gifts we had gotten so far, but I was really looking forward to the clothes. Blake and I had bought a few articles of clothing for our babies, but I wanted more.
KJ got us burp pads and bibs, as well as the cutest giant stuffed animals. Bliss got a giant stuffed frog for her princess room. I loved it! He got her two bibs. One had cakes all over it, and the other one had princess crowns. Her burp cloth had ponies on it. For Colin, he got a giant stuffed sea turtle. One of his bibs had cakes on it, and the other had cherry blossoms. His burp cloth was blue and green plaid. Cisco got us two baby carrying slings—one in pink and one in blue. Ethan got us two baskets full of baby toys. One was filled with girl toys, and the other had boy toys. Teething rings and pacifiers were included in both.
Brandon and Ace got us the first clothing of the night. For me, they got a neon green shirt that had C printed on the front in royal purple. For Blake, they got a royal purple shirt that had ake written on it in neon green. For Colin, they got a light blue onesie that had Baby cake written on it in royal purple, and for Bliss, they got a light pink onesie with Baby cake written on it in neon green. The outfits were for us all to wear together. I loved it!
“Those are adorable!” Blake cooed.
We grinned at each other.
Alaina gave Bliss a frilly pink dress. It had lace all over. “Jordin told me you want Bliss to be your little princess, so I got her her very first princess dress,” Alaina explained.
“It’s so cute! Thank you!” I hugged her. I almost cried from happiness, imagining dressing Bliss in it.
For Colin, Alaina got black pants. To go with it, she got him a white tee shirt that had a picture of a musical instrument mobile on it. Hanging from the mobile was a guitar, a drum, a microphone, and a keyboard. It had Rockin’ Before I was Walkin’ written on it in maroon letters.
“That is the cutest thing ever!” Blake said.
We grinned at each other.
Alaina smiled. “I’m glad you like it.”
Leslie got Bliss a white onesie with pink letters that read Sorry, boys. Daddy says I’m not allowed to date until I’m 30. I grinned. “You got that right! Though I’m not letting her date until she is forty,” I teased.
Everyone laughed.
For Colin, she got a white onesie that had in blue letters, My dad’s tattoos are cooler than your dad’s.
Blake laughed. “This is the coolest! Thank you.”
“It is cute,” I agreed. It fit our son perfectly. I’d say.
Sligh got Bliss a sun dress with watermelons all over it. It came with a matching sun hat that was made to look like a watermelon. I loved it! For Collin, he got a blue tee shirt that had Dad’s future beat boxer written on it in white. He got blue sweat pants to go with it.
Blake loved that gift. I loved the dress!
Sligh also got them each a white onesie. One said boy in blue, and the other said girl in pink.
“Just in case you get them confused,” he said.
Blake and I laughed.
“It could happen!” Sligh insisted.
“I suppose it could. Thanks, Sligh,” I said politely.
Phil got them pink and blue onesies that had, Daddy’s little princess written on the pink one (with a little crown below it), and Two daddies are better than one on the blue one (with two male symbols below it). They were both adorable!
Finally, Sanjaya gave Bliss a little baby doll, and Collin a turtle shaped rattle that he said was from his sister Shyamali, who was on vacation with her boyfriend and couldn’t attend the shower. Sanjaya gave Bliss a lacy blue dress with a matching blue Sunday bonnet. For Colin, he got a blue three-piece suit with a blue dress shirt and a little blue and black plaid tie.
“I figured they could wear those to church,” he explained.
“Yeah, thanks, buddy! They are adorable,” Blake said.
I nodded. “They’re perfect! Thank you.”
We then went around and hugged and thanked everyone individually for the gifts.
Our babies were going to be the best dressed babies ever!
B∞C
“All right. I guess that’s it. I hope you all had fun” Jordin said.
“We did. Thank you so much for this, Jordin. You’re awesome!” I hugged her.
“Yes, you are,” Chris agreed. He hugged her as well.
My phone rang, so I politely excused myself and headed to the kitchen, where it was quieter. “Hello?”
“Blake?”
“This is him.”
“This is Toni. I’m calling to tell you that Isabella is in labor.” It was Isabella’s roommate.
“She is? When?”I felt my heart start to race.
“Her water just broke. Will you head over to the hospital?”
“Yes. We’ll be right there.” I had to tell Chris. This was it! I was so excited!
“Thank you.”
We hung up, and I ran out of the kitchen to tell Chris.
I could hardly wait to see our babies!
B∞C
I was joking with Alaina and Leslie when Blake came running back into the room. “Isabella’s in labor!” he exclaimed.
“What?” I turned to face him. Had he just said what I thought he just said?
“Isabella’s water just broke. We have to go to the hospital now!” He was out of breath now.
“What are we just standing here for? Let’s go!” I said. I practically ran to the door, and put my shoes back on. I almost forgot to say goodbye to everyone, but at the last minute, I did, as did Blake.
With a chorus of good lucks and other well wishes, as well as hugs, Blake and I finally left the house, and got into our car.
Blake headed to the hospital as fast as he could without breaking the speed limit.
“This is it, baby. Are you excited?” He asked me with a quick smile before turning his attention back to the road.
“Yes! Are you?” I grinned at him.
“So much!” he said.
We were both grinning he whole way to the hospital. I could hardly wait to become a father, and I knew Blake could hardly wait either.
