"It's just enough to feel your breath on mine
To warm my soul and ease my mind
You've got to hold me and show me now."

Kelly woke up suddenly, an uneasy feeling settling deep in her stomach. It took a minute for her to remember where she was and who the girl was that was laying on top of her, the two of them having turned over sometime during the night. Then it took another minute for her to get over the shock of having Carrie laying on her.
Carrie's grip on her had tightened as the Oklahoma native curled up into a ball on top of her. Kelly could feel the girl shaking in her arms as the softest moan of pain escaped from her lips.
"Carrie?" Kelly asked, tilting her head to look down at her. A sheen of sweat was glistening over her skin. Kelly turned her head, placing her cheek against Carrie's forehead.
"Oh God, you're burning up," Kelly frowned, kissing her forehead soothingly. "Care, wake up, come on," she said, shaking her gently.
Her fellow singer whimpered as she clutched to Kelly's shirt.
"Carrie, please wake up," Kelly said trying not to panic.
"Kell?" Carrie's voice cracked her eyes opening slowly.
"Hey," Kelly smiled at the playful nickname.
"I don't feel so good," she grumbled, her brows creased in pain.
"I know," Kelly soothed, moving her bangs off her forehead and out of her eyes. "What hurts?"
"Everything," she said, tears starting to form in her eyes from frustration. The one thing she hated the most, more than anything, was being sick.
"Shh," Kelly whispered, wiping the tears away. "Maybe I should call a doctor or something?"
"No," Carrie frowned, burying her face in Kelly's neck, much as the Texan had done to her earlier in the night. "I don't like doctors."
"Why not?" she asked, her concern growing at the sound of Carrie's voice weakening.
"Because they're way to personal...asking all these questions...and half the time...they don't even know...what they're doing...and then everyone...will know I'm sick," Carrie breathed heavily.
"Care, we've got to do something. You are seriously not ok," Kelly pointed out.
"I just want to go to bed."
Kelly frowned.
"Sleep it off," Carrie said shakily.
"Where's your bedroom?" Kelly asked, not liking this idea at all, but if it was the only thing the country singer would agree to, she would at least make sure she would be in a proper bed instead of cramped up on a couch.
"Upstairs."
"Upstairs?" Kelly croaked. "You think you'll be able to walk?"
"Yea," she nodded as Kelly slowly sat the two of them upright.
"Ok," Kelly stood, offering Carrie her hand. "Come on."
Carrie took it, allowing the Texan to pull her up. She felt herself swaying on the spot as little black dots appeared in her line of vision. Kelly caught her just before she fell to the floor, carefully placing her back on the couch.
"Are you ok?"
"I feel weak," she replied, her face considerably paler than it was moments before.
"Care, please let me take you to a doctor," Kelly said, her voice full of worry.
"It's three in the morning," she pointed out softly.
"Then a hospital."
"No," she said firmly.
"Carrie--"
"They'll think I'm going to rehab," Carrie mumbled.
"Who gives a damn what they think?" Kelly asked. "You're really sick. You need to see a doctor."
"I just wanna go to bed," she replied, her eyes welling up once again with tears.
"Ok, ok," Kelly said, kneeling down so that they were eye level as she cradled the country singer's face. "It's ok. I'll take you up there."
"Kell..." she sighed, her eye lids heavy as another wave of dizziness took over. She felt as if her heart were beating a hundred miles an hour.
"Um," Kelly sized her up, her voice nearly as shaky as Carrie's as her nerves started to show. "I'll carry you. Piggy back. How's that sound?"
"You worry too much," Carrie said softly, bringing a finger up to touch Kelly's cheek.
"Please?" she begged.
Carrie nodded silently as the Texan gave her a soft smile before turning around. She wrapped her arms around Kelly's neck, and she felt Kelly's hands slip under her legs. Kelly stood up slowly, wobbling at first, but quickly gaining her balance. The girl was much lighter than she had originally thought.
"Ok," Kelly said. "You ready?"
She felt Carrie's head nodding against her shoulder.
"Let's go," she said, following Carrie's directions to the stairs, then slowly, taking one step at a time, making her way up them.
"Which one?" Kelly asked as they made it to the second floor.
"The second one...on the left."
Kelly pushed the door open, then after some struggle was able to get the lights turned on.
"Here we go," she said, setting Carrie down on the king size bed that took up the majority of the room. Kelly pulled back the covers and helped Carrie crawl beneath them. She shakily pulled the blankets up to her chin as she looked up at Kelly, painfully.
"Is that your bathroom?" Kelly asked, pointing to a door on the opposite wall.
Carrie nodded.
"I'll be right back."
"Kell--" she fussed.
"I promise," Kelly assured her.
Carrie frowned as she watched Kelly walking away. She curled up into a tiny ball, trying to shut out everything else.
"You have a mini fridge in your bathroom," Kelly pointed out, returning shortly after, her arms full of stuff that she placed on the bedside table.
"Kitchen's far away," Carrie replied, peeking out over the blankets.
Kelly smiled at her gently, resisting the urge to reach out and touch her.
"What's all that?"
"Everything you should need. I have liquids to keep you hydrated and cool," Kelly said, pointing to the bottles of gatorade and juices. "I have some asprin to hopefully make you feel better. And..." she said, kneeling once more before the country singer. She held a cold damp towel to her face, trying to cool her off. Carrie closed her eyes at the touch as Kelly moved the towel to her neck and chest, tracing the collar of her shirt .
"Is this helping at all?" Kelly asked, holding the towel to the back of her neck.
Carrie nodded, opening her eyes as Kelly handed her two pills and a bottle of juice. She took them obligingly.
"I'm sorry," she said quietly.
"It's not your fault you got sick."
"You shouldn't have to do this."
"It's not a problem, Care. I promise...Care?" she asked anxiously as the girl closed her eyes tightly, another bout of dizziness, this one laced with pain washing over her.
Kelly leaned forward, kissing her forehead comfortingly.
"Will you stay with me?" she asked, her eyes wide like a small child's.
"I'm right here," Kelly smiled.
"No," she shook her head. "Will you sleep with me?"
"Care--"
"Please," she asked, her hazel eyes pleading with her.
"Of course," Kelly nodded before standing. She turned off the lights before making her way around the bed to the other side, crawling in behind the country singer. She nervously held her arm out before placing it around Carrie's waist, holding the girl close.
Carrie turned around in her arms, snuggling into Kelly's body, finding the slightest relief in the comfort that surrounded her. Kelly rubbed soothing circles into her back as she felt Carrie's burning hot skin nuzzling against her neck. She promised herself that if it got any worse over the rest of the night that she was bringing her to the hospital, no matter what the girl said.
