AN: Ero, I love coming up with little things to say! Haha. I have a million, which I will continue to sprinkle throughout my fic. See if you can catch them. Alter ego? Mmmm! I lived on Ramen when I was sick a couple years ago, and when I was putting together my Senior Project. I like to put the noodles on TOP of the chips. I am the Queen of Combinations.
Sorry this is so short!
Johnny lay in his bed, the kids put down for the night. He couldn’t sleep. He couldn’t turn off his brain and let himself relax. His mind kept turning to Charity. The way she had talked in the grocery store, how capable she was at taking care of his kids. The way she lifted up Jack, how calm she was when it came to dealing with Lily-Rose.
There had to be something about her that wouldn’t make her the perfect girl. There had to be something that would throw him off this one-track of his mind that led straight to her.
Other than the fact she was a kid, compared to him. Other than the fact that she didn’t seem to have any interest whatsoever. There had to be something. Those things only seemed to make him want her more.
Johnny turned on his other side, curled up, hugging the pillow to his chest. He wished it wasn’t the pillow. He wished it was Charity, wished he could hear her breathing, wished he could stroke her hair.
“Charity, I think you’re going to ruin my life.” He sighed.

I arrived for work bright and early on Monday morning. Before I even knocked on the door, it swung open. There was Jack, standing in his Spider Man underwear, with peanut butter smeared on his face.
“Charity!”
“Hiya, Jacky!” I stopped over and scooped him up. I settled him on my hip as I stepped inside, closing the door with my foot.
“What did you have for breakfast?”
“English muffin with milk and an apple.” Okay, good enough I guess. “Charity, Charity, are we going to do something fun?!?”
“We sure are.” I assured him with a kiss on his forehead. “But first you’re going to have to go and get dressed first.”
“I am.” He frowned down at his undies.
“I know you are, but other people won’t understand that. Go ahead and go get dressed, ‘kay?” he trotted off. Johnny came out of the kitchen, looking frazzled, with smears of batter on his forehead and in his hair.
“Not a good morning?”
“I tried to make pancakes.” He confessed, hanging his head.
“That’s not hard.”
“Yes it is! Did you know you can only turn them at a certain period of time? And then Lily-Rose said she liked French toast better, so I tried to make that.” He stopped and looked at me guiltily.
“Have bad is the kitchen?” I closed my eyes in dismay.
“It looks like an egg exploded in there!” Jack told me as he thundered down the stairs and leapt into his father’s arms.
“Joy,” I deadpanned.
“You don’t have to clean it.” Johnny said quickly. “I was wondering what you had planned for the kids today.”
“I was thinking that we needed to go and see a movie. And lunch afterwards. Then the park. But only if they’ve been good this weekend.”
“They were great.” Johnny blinked. “How were you going to take them?”
“Taxi,” I shrugged. Lily-Rose came down, holding a hair ribbon. The man in front of my cringed, putting down his son with a pat on top of his head.
“Daddy?” she held it out to him.
“I’ll try.” He said warily. I coolly took it from him.
“Lily-Rose, I can French braid your hair. And tie it with a ribbon.” I offered. Her eyes lit up.
“Can you, really?” they both said in unison. I nodded before sitting the girl in the kitchen. I took a comb from my purse and made short work of her hair. She patted it, smiling at me.
“Well,” he whistled through his teeth. “It always takes me three tries to get a pony tail right.”
“What can I say?” I shrugged. I told Lily-Rose that we were going to see a movie and she beamed. She trotted upstairs to get her shoes and a coat. Jack sat in the chair and I began to comb his hair.
“I think their mother used to do their hair.”
“Any idea when she’s coming?” I asked casually, trying to smooth down a cowlick.
“Um… Soon.” He scurried away, just as Lily-Rose appeared, complete with patent leather shoes and matching purse. I hiked my purse up on my shoulder. Johnny appeared and handed me an envelope.
“Spending money, for the children.”
“I have---.” I began. He just stopped me and kissed the kids goodbye.
“Be good for Charity, and have fun!”
