Kelly smiled when she noticed Kate in the practice studio, "You're here early."
Kate shrugged, "So are you."
"I try to be the first one here if I don't have meetings or interviews or anything before hand. The guys love teasing me about my warm ups, plus I am the boss, and do have to be somewhat professional."
Kate nodded.
"But you knew that...that I'm usually here early."
She nodded again.
"So what's up?" Kelly lifted herself up onto the stage, sitting beside her. "Questions?"
"Yea."
She smiled broadly.
"What?"
"Nothing, I love that you're so...curious."
"It doesn't bother you?"
"If anything, it gives me hope," she smirked.
Kate laughed softly.
"So, what's the question?"
"I thought you were gay."
Kelly grinned, "What? You think you're hot enough to compete with the girls, but are nervous about having to fight off the guys as well?"
Kate blushed slightly.
Kelly laughed, "You're so cute."
The front door opened, causing both of them to look up.
"Hey," the musical director greeted with a smile as he walked in.
"Hey," Kelly gave a slight wave before turning back to Kate. "Remind me later, and we'll finish this conversation."
"Ok," she nodded.
Kelly smiled, patting her knee as she stood.

Kelly pointed to the outfit that Ashley was holding in her right hand.
Ashley nodded, putting it on the rack, tossing the other in the 'no' pile behind her on the bed as they narrowed down her choices for the upcoming Idol charity show. "So you said you had plans for dinner, right?"
"Yea," Kelly nodded, studying the pair of shoes Ashley was holding. "Barefoot--I'm performing."
"There's a red carpet."
Kelly groaned, pointing to the ones in her left hand.
Ashley laughed, nodding, "So, where are you going tonight?"
"Just going grab something to eat with Kate."
Ashley's eyebrows flew up, "Kell..."
"Yea?"
"What happened to you not mixing business with pleasure?"
"She's straight, Ash."
"She's cute, too," Ashley frowned.
"Yes, you're the one that pointed that out to me, remember?"
"I doubt you didn't notice before that."
Kelly smiled.
"Kell..."
"What?"
"I don't think this is a good idea."
"Why not? You were the one that was pushing this."
"Yea, when I thought it was all just fun and games."
"It still is."
"Fun and games for me. Not for you."
"So I'm not allowed to have fun?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Not when it involves you hooking up with your backup singer. That could get really messy."
"I'm not hooking up with her," she rolled her eyes. "She's straight. It's just fun. I like hanging out with her. We talk. She's sweet."
"I know that," Ashley nodded. "I like hanging out with her too."
"So what's the difference?"
"The difference is that she's cute, but I'm straight and you're not, plus I'm not the one that singles her out for private attention."
Kelly sighed, "She just had a couple questions the other day..."
"Just be careful," Ashley urged.
"I am being careful," Kelly assured.

Kelly smiled as she watched Kate poke the food before her, "You don't like it?"
Kate shook her head.
"Then why'd you get it?"
"I wanted to try something new."
"Do you like sushi?"
She nodded.
"Here, I'll switch with you," Kelly gave her the rolls of sushi, taking the plate of noodles from her.
"You don't have to do that," she protested.
"It's fine," Kelly shrugged her off.
"Thanks," Kate let out a sigh of relief. "This is really good."
"Make sure you stick to what you know next time," Kelly nodded with a smile.
"So, I hear congratulations are in order?" Kate looked up at her.
"For what?"
"I heard you racked up last night."
Kelly beamed, "Three ASCAPs...you have no idea how great that felt."
"Including song of the year, right?"
"It was a tie."
"So? You still won. That's so awesome."
"Honestly couldn't have happened at a better time," she admitted.
"Needed a little reassurance?"
"Not me. The record company. It's obvious now that they were wrong about 'Because of You', so who's to say they aren't wrong about this album?"
"Amen," Kate nodded, tapping their glasses together lightly, making Kelly smile.
"So...where were we?"
"You not being gay?"
"Ah..." she nodded. "It's still new. Ashley will say otherwise, but she doesn't understand."
"What do you mean?"
"I haven't been dating girls for that long now. Before that, I did date guys, I mean, you've heard the songs..."
"Yea," she gave a soft laugh. "'Never Again'...what butthead caused that?"
"The same one that caused 'Chivas', but that's a story for a different time. The point at hand is that nothing's ever certain. I mean, up until my last boyfriend, I would've sworn up and down that I was straight. And I mean, I did like the guys I dated, but all of them were more along the lines of friends than anything else...I just didn't have anything to compare it to, you know? I just didn't know better."
Kate nodded, giving her her full attention.
"So, I guess what I meant by it being up for debate is nothing's ever certain. I thought I was totally one hundred percent straight...obviously, I'm not. So for that reason, I won't say I'm one hundred percent gay because the way I see it, yes, I'm more attracted to women, but that doesn't mean I can't necessarily fall for a guy. I've dated both, and haven't been in love yet, so you never know. I've just learned not to rule anything out, that's all."
"So would you date a guy now?"
Kelly's brows furrowed thoughtfully, "I'd date a girl before I dated a guy, and it takes me a lot for me to actually date a girl, so I won't say no...but probably not. I'm so not making any sense, huh?"
"No, I get it," Kate replied.
"I know I tend to ramble, so if I ever start talking too much, feel free to tell me to shut up--don't worry, I won't be offended."
Kate smiled, "Ok...but I do like listening to you talk."
"It's cause you're falling for me," Kelly shrugged. "You just don't know it yet."
She laughed softly, "I think it's more of the fact that you can be really eloquent."
"I just went in circles for like fifteen minutes. How is that eloquent?"
"It just is."
"You're totally falling," Kelly nodded surely.
"Am not," Kate rolled her eyes.
"No? Hm...that's only because I haven't turned on my charm yet. You just wait, because once I do, there's no hope for you."
"You haven't turned on your charm?" she raised an eyebrow.
"I haven't even tried, hun," Kelly smirked. "You haven't seen anything, yet.".

"Jeff Beck," Jimmy smiled as they sat around the small stage for a break during rehearsals.
Kelly rolled her eyes, "Ok, that was funny the first time his name was thrown out there, but it's getting old."
"No," Jimmy shook his head. "He said he'll do it."
"He what?" Kelly's voice rose an octave.
"I talked to David Khan...he knows him. He said he'd be more than glad to talk to him for you, and he did, and Jeff said yes."
"Shut up," Kelly pushed him.
Jimmy laughed, rubbing his arm, "I'm serious."
"Oh my God, this is like...this is huge. I can't believe he said yes."
Jimmy shrugged, "Apparently you made one hell of an impression on David because he was more than happy to put a good word in for you, and he mentioned that it was for charity, and Jeff said he'd be thrilled to do it."
"Thrilled? Jeff Beck said he'd be thrilled to work with me?"
He gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze, "This is the kind of thing that happens when you work your butt off and stick to your morals."
Kelly looked at him in confusion.
"David was really proud of you for refusing to sing the single for the charity thing, despite the record company's insistence, and he told that to Jeff."
Kelly jumped up.
"Where are you going?" Aben asked.
"I-I gotta practice. I can't look like a fool in front of Jeff Beck," she shook her head.
