Everlasting Love(Pt11)
Two months later…
The dusty, dank room cast in shadows from the gray moonlight filtering through the French doors. The bed sat unmade, its sheets twisted and ripped, the sour smell of sweat clang to them. Several lamps that provided the room with light, lay broken on the floor, shattered glass beneath them, thrown in fits of rage by the occupant that inhabited the bedroom. Large splatters of blood stained the walls in a few place.
Sav carelessly tossed the bottle of liquor to the floor, chasing the last of the liquid with blood from another bottle. He reached for another and twisted the cap off. Taking a long drink, the whiskey burned down his throat, followed with his preferred drink to sooth the burning.
Sav drew his legs up from where he sat on the floor, as he leaned against the wall.
His appearance belayed that of someone who didn’t care about life anymore or of himself. His hair fell in a tangled, limp mess down around his shoulders, his clothes fitly, smelled of sweat and blood stained. The eyes that shined a brilliant blue like a crisp winter day, were now dull and lifeless.
Sav took another long drink and waited for the liquor to numb his mind and body. He didn’t want to think, didn’t want to feel. He wanted to fill the loneliness in his nights, fill the emptiness in his mind that has plagued him for weeks.
He replayed the night he told Joe his intentions with Amber over and over in his head, hoping that the outcome would be different each time, but no matter how many times he did, the end remained the same.
For the second time in there long relationship together, Joe told him to get out of his life, he never wanted to see his face again. Joe then tossed the ring that Sav had given him all those years ago, to the floor. No amount of pleading from Sav could change Joe’s mind this time. Sav had betrayed him for the last time and Joe made it known to everyone in the room. The biggest blow happened when Joe turned his back on Sav and shut him from his mind.
Sav vaguely remembered bending over to pick up the ring and sliding it on his finger. Glancing briefly at his son Kyle….everything after that was a blur. He doesn’t recall going upstairs, locking the door to his room, never going out or remember anyone knocking wanting in.
Even Nick was elusive to Sav’s search for comfort. He didn’t come back to the house that night and has stayed away since. He would occasionally find Phil probing his mind, but he was not the one Sav was looking for. Madness was slowly taking over the emptiness in his mind and he welcomed it, it was better than the constant emptiness.
Sav picked at the dried crusted blood on his jeans. Tracing the letters that he had written there in his own blood. He bit into his finger, to once again go over the J-o-e before the flow stopped. Humming softly under his breath, Sav stared at the letters, until they became blurred from tears.
A soft thump from somewhere made him snap his head up.
“Joe.”
Nothing.
“Joe.” He called out again, his voice raspy.
The silence closed in on him. Sav wrapped his arms around his head and slid sideways down the wall to curl up in a tight ball, gut wrenching sobs washing through him.

“Evelyn.” Joe called up the stairs. “Hurry up, we’re going to be late.” Turning from the foot of the stairs he almost ran into Philip.
“In a rush to get somewhere Dad?”
“Aren’t you suppose to be in school?”
”It’s summer vacation. I always come home to visit. Did you forget that I was coming?”
“No I…I thought you were going to Phil’s this year.”
”I will for half of the summer, but I wanted to come here first, to see how your were doing.”
“I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be?”
“You haven’t been yourself lately.”
”How would you know? You haven’t even been here!” Joe nearly yelled.
“Because your temper is quick to ruffle and you’re very moody.”
“A lot you know.” Joe growled. “Evelyn.” He yelled again, not noticing that she was standing on the bottom step.
“I rest my case.” Philip stared at him.
“Would you like to scream in my ear again?” Evelyn glared at him.
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t know you were there.” Joe quickly kissed her cheek. Taking the light shawl from her, Joe draped it over her bare shoulders, rubbing his thumbs across the warm skin before taking her hand.
“Have a good time.” Philip told them.
“We will.” Joe said leading Evelyn to the front door. “Philip be home by midnight, if your not, your in trouble.”
”What?!…Dad I’m 23, not 3, let me spread my wings.”
“I hardly considered 23 an adult.”
“You were into a lot more at my age.” ”Exactly.” Joe chuckled. “Midnight.” He called over his shoulder as he was about to close the door, but Philips voice stopped him.
Philip was leaned against the doorframe, gathering his courage up yet again for what he was about to say. "Dad, when are you going to stop being selfish and go in his room? You need to find out if he is ok."
Joe stood still a moment before he spun around and waited for Philip to continue.
Taking a deep breath Philip plunged ahead, hoping he could get through to his father tonight, "You really should try to get Sav to open the door."
Joe narrowed his eyes at his son. "Now why should I do that?"
"Because he doesn't answer the door when I knock on it. I can hear him inside moving about, he just will not open the door. I put bottles of blood by the door but I never see him open it to get them and I know he does."
"I've told you before to stay away from that door and him."
"Why!" Phil exclaimed when he pushed away from the door. "Just because you have shut him out doesn't mean I have too."
"You know why!" Joe yelled. "He has betrayed me for the last fucking time. He is dead to me...DEAD! Do you understand that?"
Philip took a few steps closer and held his anger gaze. "You are right about that Dad. He will be dead soon if you don't go up there and do something about it."
Joe leaned closer and hissed, "Never." Spinning on his heel he stormed to the door, taking Evelyn's hand he dragged her out the door.
Philip caught his mother's eyes before she was spun around, he could see the sadness there about the whole situation with Sav and Joe. Taking another deep breath, he dug in his pocket for his keys. He wasn't about to give up trying to wake his father up to the desperate man upstairs that needed him.

Amber stood at the top of the stairs listening to the conversation between her brother and father, one she had heard before. It never led to anything but Joe getting angry and storming from the house. His anger was another sign that the distance between him and Sav was starting to weight heavily on him and getting close to the breaking point. Turning from the empty foyer, she made her way to her bedroom and over to the large window that looked over the front lawn and drive. She watched Joe and Evelyn leave and disappear down the road toward Dublin, not long after Philip peeled out of the driveway, he too heading for the city. She let the curtains fall back into place on the window.
The relationship with her father had been under heavy strain since she returned from the states. Evelyn picked her up from the airport and filled her in about the status at home.
She was happy for Sav, that he had a son he never knew about, but that quickly turned to despair when Evelyn told her that Joe knew about their relationship. How Sav had risked everything he has with Joe by telling him the truth and why he did it.
Amber braced herself for Joe’s wrath when she entered the house. Joe was standing in the foyer, she could feel the anger rolling off him, the cold hard glare in his eyes brought tears to her eyes.
“I’m sorry Daddy.”
Joe didn’t say a word, just turned around and left the room.
Amber stood in front of the mirror brushing her hair, thinking of that night. They hardly spoke to each other over the last two months. She wasn’t even sure why she was still living under his roof. Half the time Joe ignored her, only asking or speaking to her if it was really necessary.
He had changed she could see that. He spent all of his time with Evelyn, doing everything he could to get her to stay with him. Evelyn told her how attentive and loving Joe had been toward her, much the same way it was when they first starting seeing each other.
Amber often wondered how long that would last. How long it would be before her father broke down, because he pushed Sav out of his life? Never mentioned his name and blew up whenever some else did. Even though he knew that Sav was upstairs locked in his room, he never approached the door. How long could he go before that depression set in?
Amber tried several times to get Sav to open the door, to talk to him, to see if he was ok. Her attempts always failed, as did Evelyn’s and Philip.
Laying her brush on the dresser, Amber went downstairs to the garage. Digging out what she was looking for, she went back upstairs to stand in front of Sav’s door.
Amber rapped on the door, calling out for him to open it. When he didn’t answer the door Amber made up her mind. She was getting in tonight, weather or not he opened the door was up to him. Raising the hammer she hit the locked doorknob.
