"Feel this,
Can you feel this:
My heart beating out of my chest?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kelly lay with her head resting on the country singer's chest, the sound of Carrie's heart beating soundly in her ear. She smoothed her hand over her stomach, hearing it speed up just a fraction. She stopped, listening to it return to normal. She ran a finger over the slight section of skin that was showing due to Carrie's shirt riding up, hearing her heart speed up a little more than before. She paused, letting it slow down once more.
Kelly slowly slid her hand under Carrie's shirt, reveling in the softness of her skin as her finger tips glided over her abdomen, the heart beat in her ear quickening as she traced the bottom trimming of the taller blonde's lace bra.
"Kell..." Carrie smiled. "What are you doing?"
"Listening to your heart."
"Can I ask why?"
Kelly looked up at her, "Well if I plan on winning the damn thing over, I need to figure how it works, right?"
Carrie smiled, shaking her head, "Come here."
Kelly pushed herself up to where she was looking down at the other singer, smiling as Carrie reached up, kissing her softly.
"Now, don't tell my heart I told you this, because it tends to be rather proud," Carrie began. "But I think you may have already won it over."
Kelly's smile grew.
"I swear at times you are way too adorable," Carrie laughed softly. "Now come on and lay down with me. We have a good fifteen minutes before we have to get up."
Kelly laid back down, curling into her side.
Carrie smiled as she took the Texan's hand, placing it over her heart where her head was resting before. She reached out, tilting her head up as she carefully pressed their lips together. She could feel Kelly smiling into the kiss as her heart raced beneath the shorter girl's finger tips. Carrie turned on her side, making it easier for her to kiss her, and Kelly kept her hand against her chest.
Carrie wrapped both her arms around the other girl, pulling her closer as she continued to kiss her gently, trying to control their pace, but failing miserably at the sound of the soft moan escaping Kelly's lips. She brought a hand up to the back of her head, deepening the kiss as Kelly's lips parted further, allowing Carrie's tongue inside of her mouth.
Carrie clung to the short girl, pressing their bodies together before turning her over onto her back. She broke the kiss, panting for air, unable to hide her smile as she watched Kelly stare in awe at her hand that was still pressed against her heart. Carrie placed her hand over the Texan's, holding it there, "Like I said...I think you may have already won it over."
Kelly smiled as she looked up at her, "That's so cool."
"Yea?"
"Yea, I mean, my heart always does that when I'm around you. I just didn't know yours did it too."
"Of course it does it too. Kelly, how many times have I told you how much you mean to me?"
"Ashley means a lot to me," she shrugged. "My heart doesn't do that when I'm around her."
Carrie frowned as she sat up, pulling the Texan up as well.
"Sorry," Kelly immediately apologized.
"You were right," Carrie nodded. "You really do suck at this girlfriend thing."
Kelly's eyes fell to her lap.
"But that is by no means your fault. God, Kell, I mean, I know you've never been in love, but don't you know what it feels like to be loved by someone?" Carrie asked curiously.
"Well, yea, I mean I have my family and friends."
But Carrie shook her head, "Different kind of love sweetie."
Kelly shrugged shyly.
"What is it that you think I feel when I'm around you or even just thinking of you?"
"Happy, I guess. I mean, you did ask me out, right?"
"Happy?" Carrie laughed softly. "Kell, happy doesn't even begin to describe it. Man, I'm seriously hating those buttheads you dated right about now. I mean, they never talked to you about how they felt?"
"Well, David wasn't exactly the feeling type," she frowned. "And I mean, how can I believe anything Graham's ever said?"
"Ok," Carrie nodded. "Well you can believe me, right?"
"Of course."
"Ok, so trust me when I say that happy doesn't even scratch the surface. When I'm with you, I'm all giddy, and I feel like I have dozens of butterflies in my stomach, and I can't help but have this goofy grin all the time when I'm thinking about you. And when you smile? God, Kelly, when you smile I am seriously on cloud nine. You have one of the most beautiful and infectious smiles I've ever seen. And when you touch me, like just barely brush past me even, my skin is on fire, and my head's spinning, and I want nothing more than to just reach out and pull you close. And when you touch me, like really touch me," she looked at her meaningfully. "Seriously, you make me feel so good."
Kelly smiled, "I really make you feel that way?"
"Yea," Carrie smiled back. "And I'm sorry I haven't told you that before. I just figured you knew I felt the same way that you did."
"Care..." Kelly said tentatively. "I know everything's been really crazy with us, and we're both super busy and have been through a lot these past couple months since we started hanging out, but I mean, when things finally start to settle down, do you think that maybe one day you could love me?"
"I already love you, you know that."
"Not the kind of love for people you care about. The different kind of love."
Carrie smiled at her knowingly, "There is no doubt in my mind that I could love you, Kelly Brianne Clarkson."
"Good."
"Yea?"
"Yea, cause I'm gonna love you too," Kelly nodded surely.
Carrie closed her eyes tightly to keep the tears from escaping as she leaned forward, kissing her sweetly.
"Mm, we should start getting ready," Kelly noted as she pulled back.
"Yea," Carrie agreed, giving her one more quick kiss before unstraddling her.
"I'm gonna take a quick shower, ok?"
"Ok," Carrie smiled as Kelly reached across the bed, kissing her again. She shook her head, laughing softly, as the Texan walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. "If this is you not loving me, then I sure as hell can't wait to see what it's like when you start."
"Don't let your mind get weary and confused,
Your will be still, don't try.
Don't let your heart get heavy, child,
Inside you there's a strength that lies."
"What's wrong?" Carrie asked as she put on her shoes.
"I think I should go talk to Kate," Kelly frowned. "I haven't seen her since day before yesterday at the museum. Ashley said she stayed in the hotel room because she was feeling sick."
"Does this mean we don't have to run?" Carrie looked at her hopefully.
Kelly smiled, "We weren't gonna run. We were going for a walk."
"I know," Carrie laughed softly, pulling her to her. "I'm just joking. I do think you checking on Kate would be the right thing to do, though."
"What are you gonna do all morning, then?"
"Go aggravate Ashley. See if I can get her to stop calling me cowgirl."
Kelly laughed, kissing her softly, "Can I call you cowgirl?"
"Yea, cause when you say it, in that amazingly sexy voice of yours, it takes on a whole different meaning," she smiled.
"Good," Kelly nodded, kissing her again. "Cause I have this picture in my mind of you in these cowgirl boots..."
Carrie giggled.
"Mk, so before you completely distract me, I'm gonna go," Kelly pulled away. "How about we meet up for lunch?"
"Sure. That place on the corner I wanted to try?"
"Sounds good," Kelly gave her one more kiss.
Kelly knocked on the door, "Hey girl, it's me."
"It's open," Kate replied.
Kelly walked into the hotel room, closing the door behind her, "Hey, what's up?"
"Nothing," Kate shrugged, flipping through the channels. "Where's Carrie?"
"Bothering Ashley.
"Finally had enough of the cowgirl thing?" she smiled.
"Yea."
Kate scooted over on the bed, allowing Kelly to sit next to her.
"You didn't feel like going shopping yesterday?"
"Nah, I wasn't feeling well."
"Feeling any better?"
She shrugged.
"What hurts? Is it your finger?" Kelly asked, taking her finger. "We can totally chop it off, then we'll be done with it."
Kate laughed softly.
"Hm...not your finger? Headache maybe? Can't exactly cut that off..." Kelly held her face in her hands, studying her playfully. She reached forward, kissing the top of her head with a loud smack. "All better?"
Kate offered a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Well, that's weird. It always worked when my mom did it when I was little," Kelly frowned.
"KC..."
"I know, I know. Just trying to get a smile outta you," she apologized. "So, you wanna talk about it?"
"KC, you know I love you."
"I know."
"And Carrie...she's amazing, seriously, I am so happy for you."
"Thanks," she smiled. "But?"
"What's going to happen?" Kate looked at her nervously. "With Jill...with us as friends--as a duo?"
"I would never ask you to give that up just because of my relationship."
"But she's wrong about this," Kate pointed out.
"Kate, you're a sweetheart, and I love that, but Jill's your best friend."
"Are you saying you want me to take her side?"
"Not at all; I just think you should talk to her before worrying about what's going to happen to your friendship and stuff."
"What about you?"
"What about me?"
"You're kind of our boss."
"If she doesn't want sing to for me on tour anymore, I'm not gonna make her, but just because she stops doesn't mean you have to, ok? You always have a place on stage with me, you know that."
"Thanks," Kate offered a small smile.
"So, what we're watching?"
"What about Carrie?"
"We agreed to meet up for lunch. You're stuck with me till then."
"Damn..." she cursed teasingly, making them both laugh.
And I'm gonna love you
Like nobody loves you,
And I'll earn your trust
Making memories of us."
"Ok, here's the deal," Carrie smiled as she sat across from Kelly at the small cafe. "I order for you, and you order for me."
"Carrie, the menu is entirely in French," Kelly looked at her skeptically.
"You don't trust me?"
"Not with this," Kelly laughed playfully.
"Come on...it'll be fun," her smile widened.
"Oh, alright. But just don't get too crazy on me," Kelly warned nervously.
"Deal. But then again...it's all in French, so I can try, but you never know..."
"God help me," Kelly shook her head, laughing as she looked over the menu.
++++++++
"Honestly?" Kelly poked the food on her plate. "You honestly didn't know what escargot was?"
"I didn't know that's how you spelled it," Carrie tried not to laugh at the look on the Texan's face as she continued to poke the snail.
"Do you actually want me to eat this?" Kelly looked at her worriedly.
"Oh God no," Carrie laughed. "How about we just go back to the hotel and get room service?"
"Love that idea," Kelly nodded as she stood, placing enough money on the table to cover the two meals. "Let's go."
++++++++
"Better?" Carrie smiled as Kelly sat on the bed, eating the brownie a la mode she had ordered.
"Way better," she nodded.
"Not exactly lunch..."
"Says the girl with the chocolate cake."
"Hey, you ordered first. I was just following your lead."
Kelly giggled, taking a big bite out of the ice cream on top of the brownie.
"So how'd it go this morning?"
"It went ok. I think what she really needs is to talk to Jill so they can figure this out."
Carrie nodded, "Yea."
"And you?"
"She still calls me Cowgirl," Carrie pouted.
"I'm sorry," Kelly laughed softly, reaching forward to kiss her softly. "Mm...you have chocolate icing on your lips..."
"What is it with you and the flavor of my lips?" Carrie laughed. "What if they didn't taste like chocolate or strawberries...would you still kiss me?"
"Nah..."
Carrie's jaw dropped.
"Just kidding," Kelly grinned as she lunged forward at the country singer, pinning her down, kissing her with a loud smack.
"Kelly!" Carrie giggled. "You spilled the food everywhere!"
"So?" Kelly asked as she smiled down at her. She leaned down, kissing her firmly.
"Yea..." Carrie nodded breathlessly as they broke apart. "That's what they have maids for, right?"
Kelly nodded in agreement, dipping her finger in the remaining ice cream in the bowl that was beside them on the bed. She wiped it on the country singer's cheek with a proud smile.
"Kell..." she laughed. "It's gonna get all sticky if you leave it on."
Kelly's eyes lit up as she leaned down again, kissing her cheek, allowing her tongue to run over her skin, earning a louder laugh from the girl beneath her. She dipped her finger in the ice cream again before marking Carrie's neck with it. She slowly dragged her tongue up the blonde's neck as Carrie moaned softly. She reached back for the bowl, placing her whole hand in it, smiling at Carrie's eyes that were still closed. She pressed her hand against her face, mushing the ice cream into her.
"Kell!" she exclaimed as the Texan laughed.
Carrie wiped her eyes, "You think you're funny, huh?"
Kelly nodded, giggling as Carrie flipped them over, nuzzling into her neck. "That's cold!"
"Really?" Carrie raised a sarcastic eyebrow, wiping more ice cream from her face as she laughed.
Kelly squirmed beneath her, making a face.
"What?"
"I think I'm laying on your cake," she scrunched her nose.
Carrie sat down on the Texan's legs, pulling her up as she looked behind her, starting to laugh once more, "Yea...it's all over your shirt."
"Aw..." Kelly tugged the shirt off so she could look at the back of it. "Oh well. It was cheap anyway," she shrugged, tossing it aside.
Carrie's eyes danced as she looked at the shirtless singer before her.
"You're a mess," Kelly laughed, dragging a finger along Carrie's cheek, wiping off ice cream.
"So are you," Carrie giggled.
"Shower?" Kelly suggested, her pulse already racing in anticipation.
"Definitely," Carrie nodded, taking her hand as she jumped off the bed, pulling her with her into the bathroom.
