**PART 12**

Marshall frowned again as he looked down at her. Why did she expect answers out of him? Did he look all knowing? Because he sure didn’t feel like he knew anything. Hell, she was lucky he knew what fucking day it was, let alone what was going to happen once he went home. He started to feel himself tense up and he was getting angry because of it. He couldn’t win! He didn’t want to feel this way, but it’s what always happened. He had this innate sense of survival, something hidden and programmed deep into his brain to avoid these types of situations by any means necessary. Obviously it was going to be by getting angry and distancing himself today.
But he didn’t want it to be like that. This wasn’t Kim, or any of the other women he may have tried to start something with. She wasn’t asking him questions to hurt him or use against him later. She was genuinely worried about what was going to happen once they parted ways. So Marshall took a deep breath and looked away for a moment before speaking softly.
“Michigan.”
“Huh?”
“I live in Michigan.”
“Oh.” Ally said reluctantly.
Well that sucked, she thought to herself. He really did live across the country from her. There had been a small bit of hope, lingering in her heart that he may have lived closer. That there really was a chance they could work something out. But…Michigan was so far away.
“I know it’s far, but I’m always here in Cali for one thing or another. I’m even getting an apartment here so I can stop staying in all these fucking hotels all the time. It won’t be that bad Ally.”
“I…really want to see where this goes Marshall. I’m gonna be honest here and just say it like it is ok?” Not waiting for an answer she continued as she looked at her hands in her lap. “I’ve never felt the way I do about you. I’m not in love with you, so you don’t have to start freaking out or anything but I do have feelings for you. I don’t know if that makes everything better or worse, but its how I feel. Even after spending just a day together, I don’t know how I thought life was good before I met you. And trust me, I know how incredibly corny that sounds but…”
“It was really corny.”
Ally looked up at him with a frown before she saw the grin on his face.
“Don’t make fun.”
Marshall laughed and shook his head, “I’m not. I’m agreeing with what you already said.”
Ally rolled her eyes and looked at Hailie who was still paying no attention to them. God that girl was easily amused.
“Listen Ally…I’m glad you said all that ok? Even as corny as it was…”Marshall smirked, “I needed to hear it all. I told you last night that I don’t do this whole talking about your feelings and shit. It’s hard for me, but…we’ll work this out. It’s too early to predict this shit you know? We’ll just take it one day out at a time.”
“Do you think we’ll be able to?”
“I think we’re gonna try hard as hell for it…so yea…I think we’ll do it.”
Ally let out a breath she hadn’t even known she was holding. If he thought they could do it, it meant he was willing try and that gave her hope.
