POV-Kelly
"Mom, would it be ok if I got on a flight tonight to come home?"
"Wait, here?"
"Yeah.."
"Why? What happened? What did Billie Joe do?" Then I heard chuckles in the background and knew it was my sister. "Told you it wouldn't last mom!" she laughed. I was holding back the tears. My eyes began to sting because they couldn't hold it in anymore. I had held all my emotions in. Not even just the emotions over Billie. I was never good enough for anyone.
"I don't want to talk about it..just let me come home."
"Are you bringing Carrie?"
"Is it alright if I do?"
"Sure!"
"Is Katie staying with you or something?"
"Yeah, for a week." I gulped and faked a cheery voice "Great! Just like old times!"
I hated old times but then again I hated present times. I prayed every night for a miracle but I never dared to even once hold my breath while waiting.God had a twisted plan for me. As soon as things seemed alright he'd slap me in the face. I used to believe everything happened for a reason. You get a valuable lesson from all the pain. Ha, I doubted that I'd learn anything from that. Oh, don't trust anyone..that's what a learned. "Thanks for the hope God." I mumbled as I hung up my cell phone.
" I wish I were in your shoes." I said while playing with a bubbly Carrie. Every flight was delayed that was going to the southeast because of a tropical storm. I was stuck in the airport and definitely wasn't excited about it. I knew Billie Joe would figure out eventually that I would go back home. He'd come to the airport and there I'd be. I was a sitting duck. "Is this seat taken?" I looked up at the man that had asked that question. He was obviously no older than 25, probably in his very early twenties. He had a thick Scottish brogue. He was doe eyed and had a bright smile. "No, its not taken." I smiled back at him.
He sat down and started immediately shuffling through his luggage as if searching for something. He pulled out a piece of paper and then groaned."Sorry to bother you again but I can't find me pen. Do you happen to have one?"
"I might..lemme check." I emptied out my purse in pursuit of a pen. "So, where's your husband?" he asked. I looked up and then noticed his eyes looking at my wedding set. "I'm ugh..getting a divorce." His eyes light up after I told him I was getting a divorce. "Sorry I brought it up."
"It's ok, you didn't know. Here's a pen." I handed him my viagra pen and smiled at him.
"Thanks."
There was something about this guy that gave me a strange feeling. He was attractive, maybe that was it. Ever since I met Billie I had never been attracted to anyone but him so I just felt odd I suppose. "What's her name?" he asked while nodding over at Carrie. "She's Carrie."
"That's sweet. I'm Ewan by the way."
"I'm Kelly."
"That's a lovely old Irish name."
"Yeah, I guess."
"Sorry, I'm coming on a little strong aren't I? I mean your not even divorced yet and I'm flirting with you." I hadn't even noticed he was flirting. I liked the fact that someone else wanted me. I felt special. Even with a baby crawling all over my lap I had a guy flirting with me. That has to speak volumes or at least I'd like for it to.
"It's quite alright. Your actually kind calming me down." I reassured him "Nice..right..are you gonna be on this flight?"
"Yes sir!" I giggled. He just smiled and looked straight into my eyes. I hadn't noticed it before but his eyes were the same exact shape and size as Billie's. The color was almost the same too, only darker. For some odd reason I found Billie Joe's prettier. His eyes told a thousand stories. It was a glimpse into the crooked world of Mr. Armstrong. I tore my glance away from Ewan and looked down at Carrie. I hated thinking about Billie and even having the audacity to compare a guy who already seems nicer than him, to Billie and having Billie seem strangely, stupidly, and wrongly better.
"Billie hurt you. He doesn't deserve to be in your thoughts." I thought. I stood up and started walking off to the bathroom but not before being stopped by Ewan. "Where are you going?" he asked. "Oh, the bathroom. I think she needs a diaper change."
"Well, hurry back!"
I scurried off to the bathroom and folded down the diaper changing station. I gently placed Carrie onto it. I kissed her forehead lightly and stroked the few strands of hair she had. She was a redhead just like her mommy. I walked over to the sink and splashed water on my face. I closed my eyes and pictured the good times. How it was for a short while. "What if he didn't cheat? You could be making the biggest mistake of your life. Carrie needs a father.....Ewan is kinda sexy...damn your random.......why would Adrienne of been calling to ask if she was gone. What did she mean if it wasn't about me?"
POV-Ewan
I was quietly sitting and waiting for Kelly's return. I heard what I assumed to be her cell phone ringing. I found it and without even thinking answered it. "Hello?"
"Who the hell is this?" the mans voice screeched.
"Ewan...who is this."
"Billie. Why do you have my wife's phone. What the hell are you doing??"
"Sitting in an airport waiting to get on a plane."
"Where is she?"
"Who?"
"Kelly!" He was getting even more upset. His voice kept cracking like a boy going through puberty.
"Well, she's in the bathroom."
"So she's at the airport?"
"Yeah!"
"Is she going to be on the same flight as you?"
"Yeah!"
"Tell me all the information, please!"
I told him all about the flight. I wasn't sure what the hell happened with their relationship but I had a feeling he regretted it so I figured ' Why not?'.
POV-Billie
I made a deal with the flight attendants to let me get onto the plane early. I snuck into the bathroom and hid with the door cracked open slightly so I could observe all of my surroundings. They finally boarded the plane. Kelly sat in an aisle set and some guy that walked in with her..I assumed it was Ewan....sat in the aisle seat next to her. Kel placed Carrie in a car seat looking object in the window seat. One of the flight attendants helped her put it all together and make sure Carrie was secure.
As soon as Kelly looked away I ran out of the bathroom and sat in the seat in front of her. Ewan kept starting up a conversation with Kel. I listened as closely as I possibly could. He was flirting like a cat in fucking heat. I snickered every time he'd hit on her strongly. "Oh, you are so pretty. I would forget that ex..er soon to be ex if I were you."
Had she told him she was divorcing me? Why? I wasn't sure why. I just pulled out a compact and watched Kelly in it. She looked up at the compact and made a face full of confusion.
POV-Kelly
When I looked up at the compact I saw those eyes again. "It can't be him. He has no clue your here." My eyes had a mind of their own and kept starring at those eyes. The well placed eyeliner..too familiar...the beautiful color...too familiar...the dark, twisted stories they tell...way too familiar.
There was a teensy bit of turbulence that wok Carrie up but she didn't cry. Then I caught a whiff of something that smelled like a sharpie. "No ,way. Your minds playing tricks on you. Don't go back to that day. Not even mentally." Then a hand slipped in between the seats in front of me. It was holding a napkin. I kicked the seat in front of me and heard a laugh from the occupant of the seat. The hand started waving the napkin around. I grabbed it and began tearing it but then something stopped me.
I unfolded the napkin and saw a note written in green sharpie. It read : " Don't worry, I fly planes a lot and this happens a shitload of times." My eyes were getting all wet again. "What's that?" Ewan asked.
"Nothing..."
I undid my seatbelt and stood up. I straightened my clothes and dragged my feat and walked over to Billie. "Is that seat taken?" I questioned. "Well, as a matter of fact its not!" he said in a fake, strong southern accent. I slid past him and into the seat. I looked back at Carrie. She had fallen back asleep. "What's your name little lady?"
"Kelly. And yours?"
"Billie Joe."
"Wow, with an accent and name like that you must be from the south."
"Nah, I just heard that Scot talking to ya and figured ya had a thing for accents." I laughed at his stupidity but found it strangely romantic.
"So, what's a pretty lady like you doing with a guy like that?"He pointed at Ewan. He refused to give up that accent.
"I don't know. I guess he just swept me off my feet." A bit of anger arouse in his eyes but he quickly shook it off. "So your not single.."
"No, I am."
"But you've got such a beautiful wedding ring on that finger right there."
"Oh, that's over."
"Why is that?"
"I don't know..you tell me."
"How should I know? I'm just a poor farm boy."
"He cheated." I whimpered.
"What??" The accent was gone now.
"I answered his cell phone and it was his ex. She said 'Is she gone yet?' So I left."
"That doesn't mean he cheated."
"Then what was it?" Billie grabbed my shoulders tightly and looked me dead in the eye. I felt weak. I was letting him get into my mind. No matter how hard I fought it, he was there.
"Maybe he was planning a party for you that day." He then realized his accent had suddenly disappeared so he started taking with it again. "And Adrienne ,I mean, his ex was involved. Maybe they were throwing a congrats on your baby party!" He placed his forehead against mine. Our lips were almost touching and he whispered "I highly doubt any guy would be stupid enough to do anything that could diminish his relationship with you."
