Chapter Eleven
Emmy looked nervously around as Jake led her and Bridget backstage. “The lads are back here. They should be changed by now, but if they aren’t, oh well.” Jake shrugged his shoulders. “It will do ‘em some good. Maybe they will listen to me and hurry their arses up from now on.” Jake winked when Bridget couldn’t hold in her laughter. When he saw how nervous Emmy was, his face softened. “Don’t worry yourself lass, Kian is very happy to see ya.”
“Yea, Emmy. Kian is very happy to see ya.” Bridget grinned as they neared the Westlife dressing room.
Giving her cousin a dirty look, Emmy opened her mouth to make a comeback. But before she could, the door whipped opened and in the doorway stood Kian. Emmy’s head whipped around as the sound of the door opening suddenly startled her. When she saw Kian, her eyes widened. Her mouth instantly went dry as she gazed upon the man that stood before her.
Standing there in the doorway, Kian’s bright blue eyes reached out to Emmy. Still half dressed in his stage costume, he ran his long fingers through his blonde hair. The dark trousers he wore clung to his hips, hanging low enough to reveal the band on his Calvin Klein black boxer briefs. His broad chest was completely bare with the exception of a fine sheen of sweat that coated his skin. This morning she had only gotten a small glimpse of his upper body but tonight she was getting the full view. His shoulders were wide and they trailed down to a pair of powerful biceps. The hard broad expanse of his chest looked to be made of pure muscle; showing just how much he worked out.
“That’ll be all, Jake.” Kian nodded to his tour manager, yet his eyes never left Emmy.
“You lads better be ready to leave for the hotel in a half hour.” Jake reminded him. “You have to leave early tomorrow mornin’.” He sighed.
“We know, we know!” Bryan grumbled from behind the door. “If ya keep grumblin’ Kino here won’t have any time with his girlfriend.” He snickered as Kian turned to give him a hard look. He pushed his way past Kian and grinned at the two ladies. “Forgive Kian, his mum taught him manners but as ya know he tends to forget things. Won’t ya please come in?” Bryan swept his arm by in a bowing manner.
Bridget giggled as Emmy winked at Bryan as she brushed by the boys. “Thank you Sir Bryan.” She then turned her head to look up at him, with her green eyes twinkling with laughter.
“Me pleasure, love.” Bryan winked at Emmy. He smirked as he heard Kian growling low in his throat.
The other lads grinned as the two cousins walked in. “Did ya enjoy the show, Emmy?” Mark flashed the infamous Feehily grin at her as he started to undo the buttons on his dress shirt.
“It was amazing. You boys sure go all the way. Your voices sounded great tonight.” Emmy spoke to Mark but her eyes drifted over to Kian. Seeing him live surpassed anything she had seen and heard on tv. It still hadn’t sunk in all the way that her old childhood friend was one of the best singers in Europe. Tonight it hit her hard. There was no denying it. Kian had changed into something she wasn’t sure she could handle.
Shutting the door behind him, Kian ran his fingers through his hair again. “We’re just changin’. We’ll be done soon and then we can get outta here.”
Emmy turned to offer a smile to him. “Take your time. I don’t want to rush you.”
Walking up to her, Kian bent his head and brushed his lips over her forehead. “Don’t worry, Little One. You’re not rushin’ me.” He grinned as he grabbed a towel and headed back towards the bathroom.
Nicky and Mark raised their eyebrows as they turned and looked at Shane. Shane had a mysterious smirk on his face as he looked from Kian to Emmy. Bringing her here had been the right thing to do. Kian had come full circle since Jodi left. Where she left him depressed, all it took was one look from Emmy to make him whole again.
“So lasses where do ya want to go?” Bryan asked as he kicked off his shoes. “Are ya hungry? Cause we are starvin’.”
“Food sounds good about now.” Emmy nodded. “You guys won’t be too tired will you? Jake said you had to leave early tomorrow morning to make it to the next show.”
Nicky waved a hand. “Forget him, Emmy. We’re used to it by now. We get sleep when we can. Besides the next show isn’t too far away. We just get there early to let us sleep in real beds while the crew sets up the gig.”
“Are ya up for some dinner, Bridget?” Bryan winked at the young girl.
“Oh ya. I’m starvin’ too.” Bridget grinned at him. By now the shock of actually being in the same room as the lads had begun to wear off. She was finding out that they were just ordinary lads who happened to be in a band.
“Well since we’re all dressed why don’t we go wait in the lobby for Kian? He always takes forever.” Shane suggested.
Catching the look Shane was giving him, Nicky nodded. “Ya, we can go wait in the lobby. Come on Bridget.” He motioned for the young girl to follow him and Shane.
Emmy looked back towards the shower. “Some things never change.” She grinned.
“Why don’t ya stay here Emmy? That way Kino will know where we’re at.” Shane suggested. He tried to act nonchalantly but almost lost it when he saw Bryan turn around to hide his laughter.
“Ok, I’m sure he won’t be too long.” Emmy waved them off. “We’ll catch up in a minute.”
“Don’t be long lass.” Mark winked as they all filed out into the hallway.
Emmy sat on one of the couches as she stretched out her legs in front of her. Her head fell back as the jetlag began to catch up with her. Suddenly she felt weary and drained of all energy. She let out a big yawn. Running her hands over her eyes, a soft Irish brogue had her suddenly smiling.
“Why didn’t ya tell me ya were that tired, Little One?”
Opening her eyes Emmy tried to focus but the scene before her nearly took her sight away as it already did her breath. Expecting to find Kian dressed, instead she found him standing before her in nothing but a white towel as it was wrapped around his waist. Her mouth went dry as she found she couldn’t stop staring at him. The broad expanse of his chest was covered in a million sparkling water droplets. His blonde hair was slicked back from the shower as he reached up and dragged his long fingers through it. As much as she tried to look away she couldn’t. The fluffy towel barely covered him, as he was tied snuggly at his waist. Emmy found herself chewing her lower lip as she watched a water droplet start to run down his neck as it trailed down his chest to his abs only to disappear under the towel.
What is wrong with me, she thought to herself. This was Kian, her best friend. Sure he had changed since she last saw him. She had changed too. But now she wasn’t sure if she was ready for the new grown up Kian. If he were any other man, she knew she would be more than attracted to him. Suddenly the kiss they shared flared in her mind. The way Kian’s soft lips felt as they took hers in a heated rush. Instantly a blush spread across her cheeks as the combined thoughts of the kiss and the image of Kian filled her mind.
“Little One?” Kian’s soft voice brought her out of her thoughts.
Emmy’s head snapped up as a shy smile crossed her lips. “I’m not really that tired. It’s just everything is catching up with me today.”
Looking deep into her eyes, Kian knew she wasn’t being completely honest with him. He could see the tiredness in her face as well as her eyes. Shame flooded over him. He was the reason she had to come all this way. His Little One came when he needed her. Making his way to the couch he gave her one of his gentle smiles. Emmy watched as he sat next to her. Turning to look at her, Kian reached out and played with a tendril of her hair. Rubbing the silkiness between his fingers, he found that his insides were complete chaos. “I never asked ya today, when do ya leave?”
Finding herself nuzzling against his hand, Emmy gave him a sad smile. “We only have tonight and tomorrow night. I have to be back in Sligo on Monday.”
Kian let go of her hair and cupped her cheek. “I never did thank ya for today.” His sapphire eyes reached out for her emerald ones. “It seems whenever we need each other, all we have to do is reach out and the other will be there.”
Reaching up Emmy slid her hand along the wet skin of his shoulder to land in the crook between his neck and his shoulder. “That’s what friends are for, Kian. You have to know that if you ever need me, I’ll be there.”
“Friends?” For the first time Kian was ready to admit there may be something more than just friendship between them. Butterflies fluttered in his stomach as he thought of what it could possibly be like if Emmy was his, not just as his friend, but HIS. Instantly he yearned to kiss her, to take what he wanted.
“Of course Kian. Yet I think there is the possibility of more than friendship here.” Emmy found herself becoming mesmerized as she gazed up into his eyes. She had always loved his eyes. They were bright blue and seemed to show everything he was feeling. Right now she couldn’t look away even if she wanted to.
“I’m startin’ to agree with ya, Little One.” Kian’s voice came out low with an underlying husky tone to it. He began to move closer to her, lowering his head. His thumb began to brush along her cheek. He fought a moan as he felt the satin softness of her skin. “I think what we’ve got goes way beyond friendship.” He knew he was being brave when he lowered his head and brushed his lips over the skin of her cheek.
Closing her eyes Emmy sucked in her breath. The moment his lips touched her cheek a shiver of excitement ran up her spine. Being this close to Kian was making her heart race. She could smell the fresh clean scent of the soap he used. She felt his muscles ripple under his wet skin as he moved. “What have we got, Kian?” She managed to get out.
“Somethin’ special, Little One. Somethin’ very special.” Kian couldn’t wait any longer. Ever since the first kiss between them, he had been hungering for another one like a starving man hungers for food. Come what may, he was going to feed his hunger. Sliding his lips over her cheek, Kian took her lips in a soft kiss.
Even though a part of her knew it was coming, Emmy was still a bit shocked. Opening her mouth to gasp, she felt the tip of his tongue sliding along her lips to dip into her mouth. Curling her hand around the back of his head, her fingertips played with the wet strands of his hair at the nape of his neck. Kian’s lips took control of hers as the kiss went from soft to fiery. Knowing that deep inside a part of her wanted this too sent her senses reeling. Flicking her tongue against his, she heard Kian moan as he pulled her closer to him until she felt the water from his shower soaking her shirt.
Deepening the kiss, he began to suckle on the tip of her tongue. Underneath his towel his body was responding to the kiss. He was harder than granite by now. The towel was doing nothing to hide this fact. Using his tongue Kian started to tease Emmy. Their tongues began to duel, sliding against each other. When Emmy sucked his lower lip between her teeth he nearly lost it right there. “Oh god baby!” He moaned slowly as he broke the kiss.
Emmy laid her head on his shoulder, burying her head in the crook of his neck. She was half-afraid to look in his eyes. Once again the kiss between them rocked her to the core. Her breath was slowly returning to her as her heart raced deep inside of her chest. It suddenly hit her then that she wanted him to kiss her like he did again. Kian was her friend but she found herself wanting him.
Looking down at her, Kian hugged her tight against his chest as he wrapped his arms around her. As he laid soft kisses along her forehead he began to whisper to her. “Emmy I can’t help meself. Kissin’ ya seems so natural. I’m drawn to ya.”
“I feel it too, Kian.” She whispered against his neck. “I wanted you to kiss me this time. I needed it.”
Her words were the salve to heal his wounded soul. When he needed someone to understand, Emmy was there. When he needed someone to help him pick up the pieces of his heart, Emmy was there with her arms open to comfort him. It was as if the nine-year separation didn’t exist. “I love kissin’ ya.” He smiled as he rocked her in his arms. Neither one of them spoke for a long time as he just held her. The smell of her perfume, mixed with the soft scent of her skin was still having its effect on him. No longer could he look on her as just his best friend. She was slowly becoming something more.
“The others will be angry we are taking so long.” Emmy broke the long silence.
“They can wait a few more minutes.” Kian growled softly. He didn’t want to move right now. Emmy was in his arms and that mattered more to him than his friends’ quest for food.
Lifting her head Emmy braved it and looked into Kian’s eyes. They had darkened a bit as he reached up and stroked her cheek. “Come on, we only have this weekend. After that you will be gone for another three and a half months.” She slowly began to stand.
Standing up beside her Kian pulled her into his embrace. Hugging her, he rocked her in his arms as he whispered. “You’re me angel. I can’t be without ya.”
Laying her head against his heart, Emmy closed her eyes. She could hear the beating of Kian’s heart. She would do anything for him. Anything at all. “I’m here Kian. Just as I promised. As long as you need me, I am here.”
* * * * * *
It was nearly midnight when the group returned from the restaurant. Laughter filled the hotel hallway as Bridget and Emmy walked ahead, talking to Mark and Nicky. Bryan and Shane followed behind them, with Shane joking around with Bridget. Nicky and Emmy talked about what it would be like to travel on the tour bus.
Kian followed behind the group, his hands stuffed in the pockets of his jeans. His mind wasn’t on the tour bus, but once again the kiss that they shared. Things were changing so fast and he wondered if he could or wanted to keep up. Going from a steady relationship with a girlfriend to now lusting after his best friend was a lot to take in. He knew he was skating on thin ice with the situation with Emmy. Just what did he want?
“You seem awfully quiet?” Shane nudged Kian as he walked. “You ok?” He looked over at his friend.
Kian nodded, not saying a word. He continued to stare at the carpet as they walked. He wasn’t in a talkative mood, and he hoped Shane would get the hint. He had too much on his mind right now.
“What’s the problem, Kino?” Shane sighed as he looked over. “I thought you’d be happy that Emmy was here?”
“Oh I am, Shay. Trust me mate, I’m very grateful for what ya did.” Kian lifted his head to look at his friend. He could see that Shane was waiting for an answer. He sighed as he looked ahead at Emmy’s back. “Things are just gettin’ really complicated now.”
“Ahh.” Shane nodded as he looked forward to where Kian was staring. “Yea, I can see where it would. You know it’s not easy to fall in love with your best friend.”
Kian’s eyes widened as his head whipped around to stare at Shane as he came to a complete stop. “Who in the bloody hell said I was fallin’ in love with me best mate? Did I say that? No I didn’t!” He raised his voice, causing Shane to pull him aside.
“Shhh! I wasn’t talkin’ about you!” Shane grabbed his arm and pulled him close to the wall. "I was talkin’ about me and Gilly.” Then he fought a smirk. “What makes ya think I was talkin’ about you?”
A blush crept up Kian’s neck to cover his face. He looked in Shane’s eyes and he knew that he had been busted. “Aww hell…” He looked away, sighing heavily.
Shane patted his shoulder. “It’s ok Kino. I know this can’t be easy for you.” He gave him a sympathetic grin. “With Emmy showin’ up, it’s been hectic the last month. I’m sure it didn’t help that she looked…so grown up.”
“I don’t know what to do Shane.” Kian ran his fingers through his hair, agitated. “I try to keep tellin’ meself that she’s me mate. That’s all. But one touch and I am kissin’ her like crazy.”
“Does she pull away from you?” Shane asked gently. “Does she seem to not want it?”
“Hell I don’t know.” Kian leaned back against the wall. “No she doesn’t pull away.”
Before Shane could answer Emmy walked up to the two men. “Hey lads, everything ok?” Her eyes immediately went over to Kian. She could see he was upset. Her brows furrowed, as she looked on concerned. Reaching out she ran her hand up and down Kian’s arm.
“Yea, Kino is fine. In fact we were just talkin’.” Shane looked from Emmy to Kian, then back to Emmy. “I’m gonna room with Bryan tonight. That way you and Kian can have some time to yourselves to talk…or whatever.” He waved his hand as he stumbled over the last part.
Kian’s head raised as he stared at Shane. This was news to him. “Ya sure, Shay?” Just what was his mate up to?
“Everythin’ is settled. From what I was told, Emmy’s stuff is already in your room. Bridget is already in her room, so don’t worry about her.” Shane nodded. “Just make sure you’re ready to go at eight a.m.”
“Thanks Shane.” Kian gave him a grateful look. Tonight of all nights, he really needed to talk to Emmy.
“Just try to keep the noise down.” Shane snickered as he turned to walk down to his room.
Kian growled as he pushed at his back, causing Shane to stumble. “Watch your step there ya deutz.” He chuckled when Shane lifted his hand and gave him the finger as he walked down the hall.
“Now boys, can’t we all just play nice?” Emmy tried to give Kian her best stern look. But when she looked at him, she burst out laughing. “Oh why do I even bother with you lads?”
Kian laughed as he pulled Emmy into his arms for a big hug. “I missed ya too, Little One.” He closed his eyes, hugging her tight. He could smell the sweet scent of her perfume, and it intoxicated him.
“I’m sure you’re dead tired. Come on, I promised Jake I’d have you in bed.” Emmy lifted her head to look at him.
Smirking, his eyes lit up playfully. “Tryin’ to get me in bed already?” He laughed when he saw her blush bright red. Taking her hand, he led her down the hall to room 285. “Come on. You can sleep in Shane’s bed tonight.” He slid his card in the slot, and opened the door. He pushed the door open and held it open. “After you, love.”
Emmy brushed past him, letting her fingers trail over his stomach as she entered. Kian fought a groan, as his eyes closed. She had no idea what one little touch did to him. It was as if she were slowly torturing him in the worst possible way. Taking a ragged breath, he opened his eyes to walk inside the hotel room. He shut the door behind him, latching the lock.
Seeing that her stuff was waiting for her, Emmy started to go through one of her suitcases. She began pulling out a nightie out of one, as she kicked off her shoes. “Do you mind if I use the bathroom to change?” She stood up, grabbing her small cosmetic bag.
Kian kicked off his shoes and laid on one of the beds. “No go ahead. I’ll just lay right here and try not to fall asleep.” He said wearily. He motioned with his hand towards the bathroom.
“I’ll be right back.” She smiled at him as she walked into the bathroom.
As the door closed, Kian sat up. He reached behind his back and pulled his shirt over his head, tossing it on the floor. Lord, he was tired. Normally he was tired anyway after a show. But the last few days had really taken their toll on him. Sighing, he reached for his belt and started to undo it. He knew that he wouldn’t have been able to do it without Emmy. Whenever he needed her, she was there. What would the next three months be like without her by his side?
Dropping his pants to the floor, he stepped out of them. Wearing only his black CK boxer briefs, he crawled on his bed. Flopping down on his stomach, he hugged the pillow as he rested his head on it. Tiredness flooded over him. The day’s events began to slowly sink in. His head lifted as he stared at the bathroom door. Emmy was in there, getting ready for bed. Suddenly his arms felt lonely. He wanted to hold her again.
Rolling on his back, he raked his long fingers through his hair. Things between them were crazy right now. What exactly did they have? He knew that the term friendship no longer applied. Of course they were friends, but this went far beyond that now. Before when he looked at her, he saw good old Emmy. Yet when he looked at her now he saw a beautiful woman that he was attracted to. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
Just then the bathroom door opened and his head turned on the pillow. Kian swallowed hard as Emmy walked out of the bathroom. He sat up as his eyes locked on her as she walked around to the beds. She changed into her nightgown, and it had his complete attention. It only came down to about mid thigh, and was made out of soft cotton. It had a high empire waist and the neckline came down in a V, with an eyelet pattern. It had thin straps that went back over her shoulders, and it was a soft lilac color. He couldn’t hold back the soft groan that escaped from his lips.
Emmy walked around her bed to come sit on Kian’s. That’s when she noticed he wasn’t wearing anything but his boxer briefs. She held her breath as her eyes moved over his bare chest, soaking in the sight of the hard muscles she found there. Her eyes moved up to his and found a set of very weary blue eyes staring at her. Reaching up she ran her fingers along his temple, brushing back stray hairs. “Aww Kian, you look so tired. I feel bad for keeping you out so late.”
Spreading his legs, he patted the space between them. Without hesitation, Emmy crawled between them as she put her back to his chest. Immediately his strong arms wrapped around her, resting right under her breasts, as his head came to rest on her shoulder. “It’s not your fault, Little One.” He whispered as he squeezed her softly. “I just need to get used to tourin’. It takes about a month, usually.”
“I’m sure the past few days didn’t help either.” She turned her body so that she was facing him, her legs draping over his thighs. “Promise me you won’t do something like that again?” When he didn’t say anything, she lifted his head to look at him. “Kian?”
With his head so close to hers, Kian stared into her eyes. He loved how green her eyes were. His Emmy had grown up to become so beautiful. What was happening to them? Was it so wrong to want to give in to what he was feeling? He remembered what Emmy had said about them possibly losing their friendship in the new feelings they were finding. Normally Kian would worry about it, but tonight he could care less.
“Kia-“ Emmy started to say but Kian’s lips cut her off.
He wasn’t going to think about anything else than what was happening right now. He needed to kiss her again. His body was craving it as well as his heart. His hands slid over her cheeks as he cupped her face. He slanted his lips so that he could kiss her fully on the mouth. When she moaned, he made his move. He slipped his tongue past her lips to delve inside. He felt her put her hands on his shoulders. At first her palms were flat, as if to push him away. Then as he deepened the kiss, her fingers curled over his shoulders and she pulled him closer.
Moaning at her surrender, Kian lowered her back on the bed as he quickly covered her body with his, never breaking the kiss. He stretched out over her as their tongues teased each other. He arched against her when he felt her hands slide up and down his back. By now he was running on pure adrenaline. His hands began their own exploration as he moved his right hand to the curve of her waist. Sucking on the tip of her tongue, there was a slight hesitation before he slid his hand up to the swell of her breast. This was new territory for them. A kiss was one thing. This was breaking down the walls.
Feeling Kian’s palm cup her breast, shockwaves resonated through her body. She gasped, which gave him a chance to deepen the kiss again. The cotton of the nightgown did little to hide the fact that his touch was causing her nipples to harden. She arched up against him, instantly feeling the bulge that was pressing against her. She put her hands on his shoulders when she felt him gently start to knead her breast in his hand.
How long had he wondered what it would be like to touch her like this? This is wrong, he told himself. Yet he didn’t care how wrong it seemed. All he cared was that it felt so right. He found he was trembling slightly as he brushed his thumb over a hardened peak. He felt her body jump underneath his hand. Breaking the kiss, he dragged his lips over the satiny skin of her neck. Nibbling softly he trailed down to her shoulder. He gently brushed his palm over her nipple, teasingly.
“Kian!” Emmy cried out softly as she closed her eyes, feeling them roll back in her head. She went to arch up but his knee slid between her legs as his upper body pinned her to the bed. Almost on instinct her thighs hugged his as she arched her neck as his lips found the pulse point on her throat.
“Please don’t stop me, Emmy.” Kian’s voice came out soft and pleading. “How much longer can we fight this?” He whispered as he swirled his tongue around her pulse. He pulled down the strap of her nightgown and quickly replaced the cotton with his mouth. “We’re past the point of fightin’ this, aren’t we?”
Hearing the seductive tone in his voice, Emmy felt her resolve melting. She reached down and lifted Kian’s head. She wasn’t prepared for the look in his ice blue eyes. She could see his eyes burning with the flames of desire. She chewed her lower lip, nervously. “Kian, it’s not that.”
He moved up until he was looking down into her emerald eyes. He took her hand in his, intertwining their fingers as their palms kissed. “Then tell me Little One. I’m all confused here. When we found each other all I could do was thank God that I had ya back. Now-“ He licked his lips slowly.
“Now?” Emmy asked, urging him on.
“Emmy, ya can’t tell me this doesn’t feel right?” Kian whispered as he lowered his head to kiss her softly. He smiled against her lips when he felt her return the kiss. Sucking on her lower lip, he let it slowly slide out from between his teeth. “See what I mean?”
“I’m just so scared of losing you, Kian.” Emmy let go of his hand to reach up and wrap her arms around his neck. She pulled him down and hugged him tightly. “We have it so good now, can it get any better?”
Kian rolled over, taking her with him as he lay on his back. He held her against his chest as he laid soft kisses along her jawbone. “What we have is amazin’. You’re me best friend, Emmy. But ya can’t deny that there is somethin’ more than mates between us.” He stroked her hair back. When she just stared into his eyes, he kissed her softly. “Let’s find out, Little One.” His blue eyes softened.
She laid her head on his chest, and hugged him tightly. She could hear the rapid beating of his heart under her ear. Emmy began to run her fingers up and down over his bicep. It felt right laying here with Kian. What harm was there? If it didn’t feel comfortable or right, they could always back away. She felt his fingers slide up and down her spine. Lifting her head, she kissed him for the first time. Usually it was Kian who initiated the kiss. Her tongue darted out to sweep across his lips.
Kian moaned as his hand came up to cup the back of her neck. Her answer was in her kiss, and that sent his head spinning. “I promise ya Little One, this is right.” He whispered huskily against her lips. “We’ll go as slow as ya want. I promise.” He reached down and cupped her backside in his hands, rocking her against him.
“Just promise me that we’ll always be as close as we are now.” Emmy moaned as she slid her hand between them to caress his chest.
“Always.” Kian promised. “Nothin’ is ever gonna come between us, Emmy. Nothin’.” He vowed.
Listening to the rolling sound of the Irish brogue coming from Kian’s mouth, Emmy smiled. In his arms she felt safe. After all he was her protector. He would make all the bad things go away. No matter what.
