Epilogue
She sat at the computer and looked at the screen. Printing out what she had written she took the contents and read over the last line. Sighing she dug out the folder she had bought to put the words she had written inside. Making it look neat she gazed at her work. Perfect, she thought.
Walking into the livingroom she watched from the doorway as her husband bounced their daughter on his lap from his sitting position on the couch. She smiled to herself recalling everything she had written. It was for him, for the both of them. She hoped that he liked it.
"What's Daddy doing to you?" she asked cooing at her eleven month old daughter.
"We're just jumping for joy aren't we princess?" She gazed at her daughter. She was looking just like her father and she was going to be a beautiful child. Always happy, she looked up at her with a smile and reached her pudgy hands out.
"Come to Mommy," I said lifting her into my arms. "You're beautiful you know that?" I asked her. She giggled at her making baby noises. She looked down at her husband who was looking at them with pride in his eyes. "I've got something for you," she said. "It's in the study."
He got up and left to retrieve it. Walking around the entertainment room a binder caught her eyes. Walking to it, she carefully picked it up balancing her daughter on her hip. Promise To it read.
"What's this?" she asked her daughter. She jumped as she felt arms holding her shoulders.
"My mother's here," he said taking the baby from her arms. "We'll be leaving soon." She nodded and flipped through the binder. When he came back to her she looked up at him.
"Did you get what I left you?" she asked.
"Yes," he said. "Go get it please." He left and a few moments later he was back with the folder. "Here," he said handing it to her. She shook her head.
"This is for you," she said. He looked at her and read the cover. Keep Your Heart Broken was neatly typed in a pretty font. He smiled seeing the binder in her hands.
"And that is for you," Lauri said pointing at the binder. "Let's read these together shall we?"
"I'd love that," Skylar said as they walked to the couch and sat down.
A few hours later the couple looked up and into each other's eyes. They often could communicate without words, and this was no exception.
"Did you honestly write that?" Lauri asked.
"Yes," Skylar said. "I worked on it for a month," she said. "And what about you? You really felt that way about me?"
"I always have and I always will," Lauri said leaning forward to kiss his wife.
"I can't believe we wrote a story about each other and didn't even realize it," Skylar said chuckling, shaking her head.
"But it's great and it fits together," Lauri said. "One day we'll give it to Jayde and she'll see what true love is." Skylar placed the binder on the coffee table and looked into her husband's eyes.
"Lauri I have something to tell you," she said. "You know I love you right?" She asked searching his eyes for the answer.
"I know," Lauri said worried that something wasn't right.
"Something wonderful has happened?" she said slowly.
"Are you okay? What's going on?" Lauri asked getting more worried.
"Lauri...I just found out the other day but I'm pregnant," she said waiting for his reaction.
"That's….that's wonderful," Lauri breathed in as he wrapped her in his arms. "You've made me the happiest man in the world."
"I didn't know how to tell you," she said chuckling. "I was hoping you'd be happy."
"Of course I'm happy," Lauri said. "I finally have you, I've got Jayde – everything's perfect," he said. She smiled.
"Happy one year anniversary Lauri," she said. He leaned forward and kissed her tenderly.
"Happy anniversary to the most beautiful person I know," Lauri said leaning in for another kiss. "I'm glad we promised to keep our hearts broken."
"Yeah, otherwise we wouldn't be sharing this life together," she finished his thought.
They looked down at their left hands and gazed at their rings. Looking back up at each other, their eyes connected and they clasped hands. With her confessions of a new life that was created, the both of them knew that they were ready to face the world together just as they had always been ready to face it before – blinded by their enchanted and undying love.
The End.
