*Mikey’s POV*
“You need to go to the police Mikey.” Ray told me.
“What and get myself thrown in jail?! I don’t think so!! What use would I be to Gerard then???” I paced the length of the room again as we tried to work out our next move.
“But they’ll come for you anyway! What you think everyone will just turn a blind eye? Don’t be an idiot Mikey!”
“Look just shut up and let me think would you?!” Ray fell silent. “Thank you. Right firstly I think we need to work out where these bits of Gerard are coming from. What if I dug out old photos from junior school and things, not so far forward as to confuse him but enough to bring him more present…! Yeah, that’s perfect!”
“MIKEY! FOCUS PLEASE! Focus on your situation before we deal with Gerard’s. If they come here looking for you they’ll find Gee. They’ll take him back to the Institution. Is that what you want???”
This caused me to go silent this time. “I...of course I don’t want him to go back there...Dr. Barker...he was...but...if they take him from me...” Then I heard some running footsteps and looking up at the banister to see a figure just disappearing round the corridor. “Oh no. Gee!!” I pelted up the stairs after him. “Gee! Where’d you go Gee?!”
I got to Gerard’s bedroom and I knocked on the door softly. I heard a choked sob before a yell of “go away!”. “Gee, please let me come in. I just want to talk to you.” I tried the door and found it was open; thank god he hadn’t worked out how to lock it yet. I walked over to the bed where Gee was lying on his front, his head in the pillow. Probably doing the whole ‘if I can’t see them, they can’t see me’ thing that kids like to do. When I put my hand on his back he flinched away from me.
His voice was muffled by the pillow as he spoke. “You’re gonna let them take me away. You don’t want me here anymore.”
“NO! Gee! That’s not it at all! I love you! I don’t want them to take you from me...I just...I don’t know how to stop them...”
Finally Gee lifted his head up to look at me. “But you promised you’d protect me. You said you’d look after me.”
I took a deep breath. He was right. I did say that. “Then I will. Bur first Gee, I need you to see some things.” I stood and held out my hand to Gerard. After a moment of hesitation, he took it and we walked out of the room together toward the attic.

“This is you when you started w:st="on">Junior w:st="on">School. Remember that?” Gerard nodded enthusiastically. I’d got him interested in all the old photos. Now to try and bring out some older Gerard memories.
“And this is me and you on my first day in 1st grade. I was so scared, I refused to let go of your hand for a 15 minutes after we walked in the gates...even after the bell went.” Mikey laughed at the memory then looked to Gee. “Do you remember?”
Gerard looked confused for a moment then a small smile began to creep across his face. “Yeah, and then at Lunch you managed to sneak in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades lunchroom cause you were so tall, just so you could eat lunch with me.”
“Oh my god. Yeah that’s right!”
“And remember when we went to the theme park with Dad this time.” I presented him with a photo when he was about 12. He had a huge grin on his face and was drenched from head to toe from going on the Water Soaker. “And then we went on the Big Dipper!! And then Dad bought me a new plane from that guy on the antique stall on the way home!!”
“Yeah!! You remember!!”
Gerard got on to his knees and dove into the large cardboard box next to us, full of photos and newspaper clippings, mainly of us and family things but some clipping Mum had kept because they were what she called ‘historic events’ like Clinton becoming president and Hurricane Floyd hitting It was then that Gerard found one buried within the others. The title read ‘America Attacked!’. It showed a detailed picture of the w:st="on">North w:st="on">Tower in flames when the planes had struck on 9/11. Gerard gasped. “Mikey! I...”
“9/11 Gee. You saw it. You were on the train going to College and...”
“You're not in this alone. Let me break this awkward silence. Let me go, go on record, be the first to say I'm sorry. Hear me out, and if you take me down or would you lay me out. And if the world needs something better. Let's give them one more reason now, now, now. We walk in single file. We light our rails and punch our time. Ride escalators colder than a cell...”
Gerard faltered off slightly. Mikey took a shuddering breath before joining in with helping him sing the chorus. “This broken city sky like butane on my skin, stolen from my eyes. Hello Angel, tell me where are you? Tell me where we go from here...”
“I wrote that when I got home...I remember all the people they were panicking. I was silent though, I just watched, morbid fascination I guess...” Another falter before Gerard spoke again. “Mikey I don’t wanna do this anymore...I wanna go play with my Spitfire.”
Mikey was too stunned to answer, just nodded his head blankly and following as Gerard retreated from the attic.

*Steven’s POV*
I watched from the back of the black BMW, watching Gerard and Mikey sometimes appear at the windows to their home. “Hey Boss. Apparently Gerard is MIA from Belleville Institute at the moment…” I glanced at the laptop in my guard’s hands. “Hmm...interesting.” I went to grab his phone but grimaced when I found reaching was slightly beyond my capacity at the moment with this injury. Mikey would pay for what he did for me, and what better way to take from him, everything he held dear. I signalled for someone to get it for me and after dialling a number listened intently for a reply. “Hello?...yes...I’d like to speak to Dr. Barker please...it’s about one of his patients...his name? Yes, it’s Gerard Way.”

*3rd Person*
Mikey walked solemnly down the stairs and into the kitchen. Frankie was sitting there a steaming mug of coffee in his hands. “Hey. Coffee’s in the pot.”
“Thanks.” Mikey poured himself a cup before joining him. “Gee’s playing outside.” Frank said causing Mikey’s eyes to widen. “Don’t worry, I’ve got an eye on him, it’s all good.”
Mikey nodded softly. “Okay. Just make sure you do. Those people are still looking for him...I couldn’t bare to loose him again.”
“I know Mikers.” They both glanced out the window, watching Gerard run around with a couple of his planes, having fun. Like a kid should.
There was a knock at the door and Frank frowned at Mikey, before watching him get up to answer it. He peeped through the hole in the door. “Just a delivery.” He told Frank, who nodded and went back to watching Gerard.
Mikey pulled open the door, the young guy on the other side of the door. “Here you go.” It was then that the man’s face, looked up into Mikey’s. “Hey...I know you...you’re from My Chemical Romance right.” Mikey sighed but put on a smile. “Yeah, that’s me.”
“Oh wow. This is just too cool! Can I have your autograph?”
“Sure kid.” Mikey heard a thump then and glancing back, saw that Frank was no longer in his seat. He frowned slightly but assumed he must have just gone outside for a cig or something. He signed the piece of paper presented to him, said his goodbye’s and then walked toward the back door. He opened the door but he was taken aback by what he saw. Frank was face down on the floor, an unlit cig in his hand. There was a small gash on the back of his head. Frantically looking around, Gerard was no where to be seen. It was then that he noticed the gate was ajar. “RAY! BOB!!” He yelled at the top of his lungs before running from the scene, out of the gate and out on to the street, looking frantically for where Gee might have gone.
After a minute or two of searching, he ran back inside. Ray was crouched beside Frank, he’d turned him over and he seemed to be stirring. “Frankie.” Mikey dropped to his knees beside the boy. “What happened?”
“I...I’m sorry Mikey...I only went out for a smoke...he was here...but someone knocked me out before I had a chance to help him...”
“Who was it Frankie...who did this to you? Who got Gee?”
“Dr. Barker...and Steven.”
Dun Dun Dun!!! What happened to Gee? Will he survive a second time with Dr. Barker? Will he shave Gerard’s hair off? Find out next time on A Child’s Mind!! Rated 18.
Sorry I’m on a sugar high right now...reviews make me happy. Slayya
