Chapter Twelve ~ Educated
~*~*~*~
The limo pulled up to a ritzy hotel in the heart of downtown Dublin. I looked at Michael and raised an eyebrow. “We’re here.” Michael chimed, as the chauffeur got out and opened the door to the limo. Michael was the first one to step out. I was quick to follow and Nadine was last. Michael turned around quickly as his eyes met mine. “Don’t forget the formal wear.” Michael said, a panicked look shrouding his face. All three of us went back to the limo and grabbed our formal wear and followed Michael inside. We followed Michael to the fourth floor as Michael went to room 1428 and politely knocked on the door. A gorgeous Spanish man answered the door. His lips parted into a smile, as he recognized Michael. “Michael!” The man greeted, pulling Michael into a hug. “It is good to see you again!” “Hello Miguel, it’s nice to see you too!” Michael said accepting Miguel’s hug. Miguel then pulled the door wide open. “Come in! Come in!” Miguel said, as he stepped aside to allow Michael, Nadine and I, to walk into his hotel room. His eyes then looked at Nadine and I. His eyes sweeping over me. My eyes met his and I could tell that he liked what he saw. “Miguel, this is Crystal and her friend, Nadine.” Michael said, introducing us to Miguel. Miguel then took my hand in his and lifted up to his lips where my placed a feathery kiss upon the back of it. “Nice to meet you Crystal,” I was now starting to notice is slight Spanish accent. He then took Nadine’s hand and did the same. “Lovely to meet you too Miguel.” I responded, feeling my heart quicken a little bit. “Nice to meet you Nadine.” Nadine blushed a bright shade of pink and looked at the floor shyly. “Good to meet you too.” Nadine whispered just loud enough to the three of us to hear her. “So these are the ladies who need my help huh?” Miguel said, shooting a casual glance Michael’s way. Michael nodded. “Yes, you see, Crystal is leaving to visit another friend and I figured I…” Nadine then looked at Michael with a scowl on her face. Michael stopped when his eyes met Nadine’s. “I mean we, wanted to make the most of her last night here.” Michael said, looking at Nadine apologetically. I smirked. “Ah, isn’t that nice of them to do.” He then turned to me. “You have some wonderful friends here…Crystal? Right?” I nodded. “Ah good! I can never remember names…well Crystal and Nadine, why don’t you go into my bathroom and get into your dresses. Then we can begin.” Miguel said, as he moved aside to allow both Nadine and I into the master bath in his hotel room. Nadine and I looked at each other a laughed. “Oi! He’s kinda cute, in an Antonio Banderas kind of way.” “Nadine, you’ve got Robert, besides you way too young for him. He’s like what? 35?” “That’s not too old, Robert’s 19...” “That’s a lot closer to 15 though. Miguel’s practically old enough to be your father…” I stated, peeling off my new burgundy shirt. Nadine looked at me then her eyes widened with shock. “Oi! Is that the bra that you bought for your dress, Crys?” “Yeah, you like?” I said doing a 360 for Nadine’s benefit. “Yeah, you are going to be popping out of your dress…you know that right?” I shrugged at Nadine’s assumption. “So? I’m grown, and I’ve got it, so why not flaunt it. I’m not going in a dominatrix outfit Nade, so chill out.” I said, unzipping my jeans and I was reminded that I was on my period. I groaned and rolled my eyes as I peel out of my pants and stepped out of them. “God, I hate being on my period. I could’ve gotten it tomorrow, but no, it has to come today.” I said, walking over to my dress hanging on the door. I unzipped the bag and carefully took the dress off the hanger. Nadine was getting out of her pants. Then she grabbed her dress and we both started getting dress. “So, what are you guys going to do after the dinner?” “I don’t know, I want to go clubbing and get fubared.” “Fubared? What the hell--” “Fucked up beyond all recognition…hence Fubar.” Nadine shook her head. “All you Americans are all the same, all you care about is partying and drinking…” “Hey, have I been to a club or anything since I’ve been here Nadine?” “Well not since Michael just appeared in your life…” “Well there you go…can you get this zipper here in the back?” I asked, turning around as she came up behind me and pulled up on the zipper. “Is that your plan or is that Michael’s?” “Well, I haven’t really talked to Michael about it, but…” “Oh, I see, one of those deals then…” Nadine said, getting my zipper zipped and clasps together. I let out a little laugh as she then turned around and pointed at her tie on her halter dress. I swiftly tied the two pieces of fabric in to a knot. “So do you know what the deal is on the hair and make-up or are we going to go to the dinner looking like dressed-up messes?” I shrugged again. “I don’t know, I’m sure Michael has something up his sleeve. He always does.” I said, winking at Nadine, who gave a smile of amusement as we picked up our clothes and walked out of the bathroom. Much to our surprise, there was a table with burgundy table cloth draped over it. There was fine china set in two place settings with three forks, two to the left and one above the plate. Two knives, one on the right side, with the blade facing the plate, and one knife inside of a smaller saucer-like place. There were three spoons, one teaspoon, one soup spoon and another spoon above the fork that was above the plate. There were napkins, folded in such a was that it made a teepee on the plate. There were also three glasses. I raised my eyebrow at Miguel, as he helped Nadine into her seat. Michael rushed over and helped me into mine before returning to position in the corner of the dining room watching us. “Okay ladies, what you have before you is a formal place setting. One in which nearly all the 4 and 5 star restaurants use all over the world.” Miguel started out. I glanced over at Nadine who was biting her lip nervously as she looked down at her place setting. “As confusing as it looks now, I’m going to break it down very simply…” I then remembered a line off of Titanic when Jack was thrust into the same situation. “Start from the outside and work your way in.” I said softly, as the gears in my head clicked. Miguel looked at me with a curious look on his face. “You already know how to do this then?” “Well, I saw it on Titanic. I’ve never actually done it. I’ve never been in a ritzy place before. But…” I picked up the small fork and soup spoon both on the outside. “This fork right here, is a salad fork, and the spoon is a soup spoon and its used for the first and second course.” I said, and Miguel nodded. “Why don’t you take Nadine through the place setting, she looks, for lack of a better word, clueless.” Miguel said, and Nadine’s glared daggers at him. “Okay, Nadine…” I said getting up and explaining what I had just told Miguel, except going through a little more detail. “…I’m not sure which will come first, but this small fork right here,” I said pointing to her salad fork. “Is for the salad that they will bring out to you first or second, and this spoon? It’s a soup spoon, this is for the soup that they will bring to you during the first or second course. Then this saucer-type dish and weird knife, this is your bread dish and your knife is butter knife. They will give you bread in between your second and third course…right?” I asked looking at Miguel. He shook his head. “No the first course normally consists of a salad, the second course is a soup, the third is an appetizer of some sort, the fourth course is the entrée, and the fifth course and most delicious in my opinion, is dessert. Bread is served only in the second course.” Miguel said, correcting me. I nodded, looking at Nadine, who seemed more comfortable with the dishes. “Well then what are these glasses for? What about these fork and spoon on top of this plate?” Nadine asked her glance switching from Miguel to me then back again, searching for an answer. I shrugged looking at Miguel. Miguel touched my shoulder. I went to go sit down in my seat. “Those glasses, the fattest, longest shaped glass is your water goblet. The waiter or waitress will fill your water goblet when you sit down. The wide, medium glass next to it that’s your red wine glass. They usually reserve this glass for the entrée, the white wine glass is usually used through out the whole meal. In Nadine’s case, your waiter or waitress would remove the white wine glass and leave the red wine glass for juice, milk or whatever cold beverage she chooses.” Miguel said, looking at the both of us. We both nodded. “I haven’t lost anyone so far? Have I?” “No,” I chimed. “No,” Nadine followed. “Good, now lets talk about manners…” Nadine groaned, rolling her eyes as if she was in a boring class. Miguel looked at her and gave a small laugh of amusement. “It won’t be long okay? I promise, now you two get up from your places.” Miguel demanded, causing Nadine and I to look at each other as we stepped out of our chairs. I glanced at Michael and he was still sitting in the corner, with a slight grin upon his lips. “Enjoying yourself?” I asked in a haughty tone. Michael’s grin turned into a smile as he directed his eyes to mine. “I like watching you ladies make fools of yourselves.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Right, we’ll see whose the fool when I throw my water at you.” I mumbled under my breath. “What was that Crystal?” Miguel asked. I shook my head. “Nothing,” I sang, but Miguel looked at me suspiciously before returning his attention to the table. During the course of the next hour we were taught proper etiquette of eating at a formal restaurant. Miguel looked at his watch and his eyes widened with shock. “Oh my…I didn’t realize the time.” He then turned to us. “As much as I wish I could stay, I can’t, I have another seminar to speak at. I must be on my way. It was lovely to meet you Crystal and Nadine.” Miguel said as he pulling us both into a hug. He then shook Michael’s hand. “Take care of these ladies, Michael. Have a good time now.” Miguel said in passing as he walked out of the hotel room. The time was now 6:07 pm. We stood around talking about what we had learned and what Michael had been taught when there was a knock on the door on Miguel’s suite. Michael hurried to the door and opened it to let a petite red-headed woman come in carrying two very large cosmetic boxes. She set the boxes down when she was just within the room and turned to Michael. She pulled Michael into a hug. “Hey Michael, it’s been too long. I’m glad to see you.” She greeted. “Hey Jody, I hope things have been well for you since the last time we saw each other.” Michael said, pulling away from Jody. “They’ve been pretty well…so, where are the girls you wanted me to work on?” I cleared my throat and she turned her head in my direction. “Oh!” She walked over to me and offered her hand. “Hello, I’m Jody, and you are?” “Crystal, and this is my friend Nadine.” I said, introducing Jody to Nadine. She shook Nadine’s hand as well. “Hello lassies, if Michael hasn’t told you, I am here to work on your hair and make-up.” Jody said, her Irish accent laying thick in her words. She grabbed a chair from the dinner table and placed it in front of the vanity. She placed her boxes on top of the vanity and opened them and they were like terraces. One was just for make-up, the other one was full of everything that you would need to cut, and style hair. She plugged in her straightening, curling irons, and air brusher. She then looked at us. “Okay, so whose going first?” Jody asked her glance switching between Nadine and I. I looked at Nadine who motioned for me to go. “ I’ll be first I guess.” I said, walking to the chair and having a seat. I let out a sigh as Jody took my hair out of the pony tail it was in and ran her fingers through it. She walked around to face me. She then nodded and grabbed a pair of black chopsticks that had what looked like diamonds or rhinestones on the end. She looked at Michael. “These are going to cost you, Michael, they’re diamond chopsticks…” “Perfect, she’s got a diamonds to go with that dress. Besides I’m not sparing any expense.” Michael said, walking forward and taking out the box with the earrings in it. “If at all possible could you pierce her ears?” “Michael…I need studs to pierce her ears with…” “You could make these into studs couldn’t you?” “I don’t want to ruin these earrings Michael…these must have cost you a fortune…” “So? I want her to wear them tonight, and she doesn’t have her ears pierced…so please?” Michael asked, mustering his best puppy dog expression. “Oh all right! But it’s going to be about a half hour. They need to soak so that I can pry the backing off.” Jody said as Michael took out the earrings and gave them to Jody. She then dug out a bottle and a specimen dish. She squirted some of the contents of the bottle into the dish and walked into the bathroom. She walked back out and there was water filling up the remainder of the dish. She placed the earrings in the dish and the earrings began to fizz. “That won’t ruin them…will it?” I asked, feeling a bit nervous. “Oh no! It just eats at the glue that keeps the backing of the earring attached.” Jody said as she grabbed a comb out of her box and began combing through my hair. She grabbed the straightening iron and proceeded to straighten my hair. She then pulled my hair into an intricate bun and stuck the two chopsticks in it to hold it in place. She then went to work on my make-up. She looked at me and gave a nod of approval. “There you go, beautiful.” Jody said allowing a good look at myself. I smiled and gratefully thanked Jody. I got up as Nadine sat down. I walked over to Michael who smiled at me. “You look flawless, as always.” Michael said as his lips meeting mine. We kissed passionately for a couple of minutes before Michael pulled away. He had the jewelry bag in his hand. “Turn around honey.” Michael said. I did and I felt the cool metal run around my collar bone. I heard the clasp engage, and I turned back around as Michael grabbed my hand and put on the bracelet. I looked up at him and he seemed to be breathless. “You look like a million bucks…” Michael said his voice in a small whisper. “Well after all the money you’ve spent on me, I should.” I said with a small laugh. Michael’s hand came up to cup my face. “Even if I didn’t spend all this money on you, you’d still look amazing. Don’t put yourself down like that…” Michael’s lips met mine in a light kiss. Michael dislodged, licking his lips. “I need to get my tux on…I’ll be back.” Michael said, picking up his tux off of the couch and walking into Miguel’s bathroom. I turned my attention back to Nadine. She looked like she was my age. Jody was putting the finishing touches on Nadine’s make-up. Her hair was curled into ringlets that flowed down her shoulders. She looked stunning. Jody took on last look at Nadine and nodded in approval. I got a really good look at her. “Wow, Nadine you look awesome.” “Thanks…where’s Michael?” “Changing into his tux…” Nadine and I carried on light conversation, meanwhile Jody had taken the earrings out of the dish and peeled off the backings to both earrings. She then took out a special type of glue and glued the stud backings to the earrings. She the used a blow dryer to dry the glue. Five minutes later, Jody looked up at me. “Crystal, come over here and sit down.” Jody beckoned. I looked at Nadine nervously as I went to sit down in the chair. Jody took out a piercing gun out of one of her boxes and loaded one of the earrings into it. “Okay, you’ve had this done before right?” Jody asked me. I nodded. “Okay, here we go.” Jody said, putting the gun up to my right ear. She squeezed the trigger and I felt the earring pierce through my cartilage. She did the same thing to the left ear. “There we are, now make sure you turn them every 5 to 10 minutes and be sure to wash them twice a day with this stuff.” Jody said as she handed me some ear antiseptic. “Okay then. That sounds great.” I said as I got up out of the chair. I pulled Jody into a hug. She was taken by surprise. “Thank you for everything Jody.” I said my eyes meeting hers. “Not a problem. Whenever you’re back in Ireland we’ll have to get together or something. Here’s my number.” Jody said giving me one of her business cards. “I’d love to get to know you better.” Jody said, suggestively. She eyed me making her point. I blushed, not really knowing what to do, or how to go about making more conversation. I had never been hit on by a lesbian woman before. I took the card in my hand and placed it in my purse. I let out a breath. “Thanks, I’ll have to do that.” I said biting my lip nervously. Michael then walked out of the bathroom and looked at me and Jody. “Hey Jody, how should I put my hair?” Michael asked, holding his hair back. “Definitely in a ponytail…oh!” Jody said, digging in her make-up tote and getting out several bottles of what looked to be cologne and perfume. “You guys take your pick. I’m gonna pack up.” Jody said, as she began putting lids back on the cosmetics that were now strewn all over the counter. She looked at me then curled her finger at me, beckoning me to come closer. I did so cautiously. She handed me a small bottle of J-lo’s Glow and winked. “Michael is particularly fond of this perfume, he loves the smell of roses on a woman…” I went out to reach for the bottle, but she pulled it away, cause me to come another closer to her. “But I will only let you have this bottle if you promise to call me tonight.” My eyes widened with shock. I looked over at Michael who was submersed in conversation with Nadine. I looked back at Jody, and I nodded. “Okay, Michael and I were thinking about going clubbing after we dropped Nadine off. Perhaps we all could go together?” I asked, not wanting to be rude. I was not bi-sexual in that sense I was bi-curious. I already knew that I was a flaming heterosexual, but perhaps after a few drinks…I shook the thought out of my head. Great now I’m becoming like Jason…fuck! “Great, it’s a date.” Jody said, as she handed the small bottle of the $40 perfume. Should I tell her I was on my period? Nah, that’ll be the great turn down line. I thought as I squirted the much-prized perfume on the valley between my breasts, the small of my back, my neck and my wrists. As if on cue, Michael approached me, pulling me into a warm embrace. I inhaled his scent and he smelled irresistible. It was a mix of all-spice and a warm ocean breeze. I could hear Michael inhale deeply and he gave a sigh of contentment. “You smell amazing…like a rose bouquet…” Michael said inhaling once more. Nadine then cleared her throat. “Um, guys? It’s five to seven. We’re we supposed to be at dinner at seven?” Michael looked at Nadine in disbelief. I used that moment to shove the bottle of perfume into my purse. Michael pulled away, and checked his watch. “Is it really? Shit! We gotta go.” Michael said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the door.
