"And through all these years,
You have been there.
Dried all my tears,
And answered my prayers."

"Oh, so I have a question," Carrie smiled as Kelly placed a plate of food in front of her before sitting beside her, waiting for the other three to join them.
"About what?"
"I was thinking of this when we were on the dock."
"You were able to think?"
Carrie grinned, "After, when we were getting dressed."
"Ah..."
"Why didn't Ashley know about the lights?"
"What lights?"
"The lights on the dock."
"What makes you think she didn't know about them?"
"Her reaction when I mentioned them yesterday," Carrie shrugged, starting to take a bite.
Kelly slapped her hand lightly, "Wait till everybody's seated."
"I'm hungry."
Kelly took her hand, kissing it softly, "It's rude to not wait."
"So why didn't she know?"
"They weren't always there..." Kelly avoided her gaze.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I had Jay put them up for me a couple days before then. I was planning on taking you out there before we even decided to go out that night."
"Really?"
"Yea," she nodded. "You had been so great with Alex and everything, and I just kinda wanted to do something special for you. It turned out to be so much prettier than I thought it would."
"What did Jay think it was for?"
"We had been talking about decorating out there," she shrugged. "But I'm sure now he realizes what it was for. We forgot to tell Ash about it though."
"Tell me about what?" Ashley asked, walking into the dining room followed by Jason and Shanna.
"How amazing we think you are," Kelly grinned.
"Bull shit," Ashley laughed. "So how much longer are we here for?"
"Flight to Nashville is tomorrow," Jason replied.
"Nashville?" Carrie's eyes lit up.
"For a week," Jason nodded. "Then more promo."
"Cool," Carrie smiled, squeezing Kelly's hand.
"You know you're gonna talk to me later, right," Ashley commented to Kelly.
"Yea, yea," Kelly laughed softly. "Now let's eat."

Ashley cocked her head to the side as studied her best friend carefully, "You decorated the dock for her?"
"Technically Jay did it," Kelly answered as she sat on the kitchen counter, saving dishes in the top cabinets as Ashley washed them.
Ashley smiled.
"What?"
"Nothing," she shook her head, going back to the dishes.
"Sure..." Kelly replied unbelievingly.
"So..."
"So...?"
"How naked did Shanna find you?"
Kelly laughed, "Very nekked, but we were in the pond. How'd you know?"
"The look on her face when she got back."
"Bad look?"
"Um...no, I don't think so. Just a bit shocked...processing it, you know."
Kelly nodded, "Good."
"Why? Cowgirl's still nervous about how she's taking it?"
"Yea, a little. Do you think there's something I can do to make her relax a bit about it?"
"If anyone's gonna make her relax about it, it's gonna be her sister," Ashley shook her head. "And while we're on the subject, have you talked to Jill lately?"
"No," she frowned.
"I talked to Kate a little bit last night."
"How is she doing?"
"It's really hard on her," Ashley admitted.
"Poor kid," she felt her heart sink for her friend.
"She was saying how wrong she thought it was and how she just couldn't understand how Jill could be acting like this when y'all are such good friends, but what hurts worse is the fact that Jill's acting like this after all you've done for the two of them. She thinks she's being disrespectful."
Kelly smiled softly, "She's always been such a sweetheart. You think if Care and I took her to lunch and just had a fun afternoon, she'd be able to relax a bit, or you think it'd make it harder on her?"
"I think it would be nice for y'all to show that you appreciate her sticking by your side even when it's hard," Ashley nodded.
"Ok, I'll talk to Care," Kelly agreed, hopping down from the counter. She watched Ashley for a moment, "What about you?"
"Huh?"
"You're friends with Jill too."
Ashley smiled, "Yes, but you're my best friend, and don't worry, I know you'd be lost without me."
Kelly laughed, "Ain't that the truth. But seriously, thanks for sticking by me...through everything. Joking aside, I so wouldn't be where I am now if I didn't have you by my side the past few years."
"Hey, thanks for paying me to play dress up with my best friend," Ashley shrugged, accepting a hug from the shorter Texan. She kissed the top of her head. "Just keep hanging in there with Jill and all this...like everything else you've been through, it'll pass. I promise."
"Thanks, Ash," Kelly squeezed her arm gently before turning to go find Carrie.

"And these are the years that we have spent,
And this is what they represent,
And this is how I feel."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kelly knocked on the door to the spare bedroom lightly.
"Come in."
She opened the door with a smile, "Hey."
"Hey," Shanna smiled back as she packed up her things.
"You slept good?"
"Yea, the bed's amazing," Shanna nodded.
"What time's your flight?"
"At eleven."
"It's a straight shot to Oklahoma?"
"Yea."
"Cool," Kelly stepped into the room, closing the door softly behind her. "So, um, I wanted to ask you a favor..."
"Ok?" Shanna paused what she was doing and turned to look at her.
"Can you talk to Carrie?"
"About what?"
"She's still so worried about what you think of us being a couple. I don't know what to say to get her to relax about it, and I hate seeing her worry. So, I thought maybe, she should hear it from you?"
Shanna sighed softly, "Kelly, I like you, I really do. You're an extremely sweet person, and I can see that you treat my sister they way she should be treated..."
"But?" Kelly looked at her nervously.
"I can't...this is still..."
"You're still trying to wrap your head around it?"
"Yea," she nodded.
"That's all she needs to hear--that you're trying. She thinks...she's afraid that you're gonna hate her because of this."
"I could never hate her," Shanna shook her head.
"I know that, but I think your baby sister really needs to hear that right about now."
Shanna nodded, "Yea."
"So you'll talk to her?"
"Of course," Shanna offered a smile.
Kelly nodded, turning to walk out the room.
"Kelly..."
She turned back.
"Thanks...for you know, looking out for her, and for coming to me..."
"I told you she still needs you," Kelly replied simply before walking out, closing the door behind her.
"Hey kiddo," Shanna smiled gently as she walked outside into the pool area where Carrie was sitting with her feet in the water.
"Hey," Carrie smiled back as her sister sat next to her. "You're all packed up?"
"Yep. Jason just helped me bring my stuff to the car," she nodded. "They're some pretty nice people. I'm glad you're hanging out with them."
"Are you really?" Carrie turned to her nervously.
Shanna wrapped an arm around her, "Carrie, I know, I may not understand it, and I may not have fully accepted it yet, but that doesn't mean I don't want you to be happy. I do."
Carrie chewed on her bottom lip, looking out at the pool.
"And I'm not blind...I can see Kelly makes you happy, and she treats you like a princess which is what you deserve."
"I just don't want you to hate me," Carrie shook her head, her eyes stinging.
"Aw, sweetie," Shanna wrapped both arms around her, pulling her closer. "I could never hate you. I promise, I still love you just as much as I did before. I wouldn't be here, and I wouldn't be trying if I didn't."
Carrie sniffed, burying her face in her sister's shoulder, "I was so afraid I was gonna lose you over this."
"You're not gonna lose me," she assured firmly. "I will always be here for you...always, ok? So stop worrying about that. Just relax and have fun. You're young...you should be enjoying yourself right now. You and Kelly...y'all are, you know, y'all are just starting out. You should--you should enjoy that. You were right: she really is a great kid, and I think the two of you could learn a lot from each other."
"Thank you," Carrie wrapped her arms around her tightly.
"You're welcome," Shanna smiled, rubbing her back comfortingly. She looked up to see Kelly standing in the doorway silently with a soft smile. The short Texan mouthed a 'Thank You', and Shanna nodded in return, watching as she turned, walking back inside. She kissed the top of her sister's head, "I love you."
"I love you too," Carrie replied against her shoulder.
"Just because you were hurt
Doesn't mean you shouldn't bleed,
I can be anyone, anything,
I promise I can be what you need."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kelly walked outside towards the pool. She sat right behind Carrie, wrapping her arms around her stomach.
Carrie smiled, leaning back into her.
"Your sister made her flight?"
"Yep."
"You're all packed up and ready to head back to Tennessee?"
"I'm packed, but I'm not ready to go back," she admitted.
"No?"
"I like it here," she shrugged.
"Yea, it's nice."
"Just nice?"
Kelly kissed her shoulder.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know," her voice was strained.
"Kell?" Carrie laced her fingers through the Texan's.
"I just keep thinking...remembering..."
Carrie nodded.
"You know, I'm sitting here with you, and you're so unbelievably beautiful with the sun coming down and everything, and there's the pool, and I should be thinking about what we did together in the pool the last time we were here...but I can't..."
Carrie could feel her own eyes tearing up at the sound of Kelly drawing a shaky breath behind her.
"All I can think about is Alex, and that huge grin she would get when I'd toss her into the water, and I just...that's all I that keeps running through my mind."
"But you were fine yesterday," Carrie noted gently.
"I ran out of shampoo this morning in my bathroom," she sighed. "So, I went into the spare bedroom across from mine to grab the shampoo from that bathroom. It was the first time I had been in there since I found Alex there on the floor."
Carrie brought the shorter girl's hand up to her lips, kissing it gently, not entirely sure how to make this better.
"It's funny, you know? Just when you think you're over it, something pops up to remind you, and you realize you were so wrong about being over it."
"Kell, I don't know what to say," Carrie shrugged helplessly.
Kelly rested her face against her back, wrapping her arms tighter around her, "Care..."
"Just be with you," Carrie nodded.
"That's all I need," Kelly whispered.

Kelly scrunched her nose as Carrie led her by the hand into the room that was full of her awards and platinum records.
Carrie laughed softly.
"When did you find this?"
"With Alex," she watched Kelly's eyes moving over all her awards.
"Why'd you bring me here?" Kelly asked curiously.
Carrie guided her over to her ASCAP award that was hanging on the wall, "I showed this to Alex. I told her it was probably your favorite award, and I explained to her what it was for and what it meant."
"Ok?"
"She was so cute," Carrie smiled. "She didn't understand how anybody could not like 'Because of You', and after she was like, 'Well, I guess she showed them'."
"I don't get it," Kelly turned to her.
"She was so proud of you, Kell," she shook her head. "She believed in you, so much, and I know you probably never noticed, but her eyes would light up so magically when you would smile."
"Care, I just told you I was having trouble with this, why would you bring all of this up?"
Carrie reached out, brushing the tears of the Texan's cheeks, "Because I'm trying to tell you that she wouldn't want you to be having trouble with this. She would want you to be happy. She would want you to be out there, singing your music, kicking butt, and having the time of your life. And I know that she would never want you to feel uncomfortable in your own home, Kelly. She knew how much you loved it here--everybody knows how much you love it here. I'm sure if she knew how hard this was going to be on you, she would've never even asked to come here."
"But she wanted to," Kelly shrugged. "I wouldn't put myself before her."
"I know, but she wouldn't want you to feel this way."
"I can't help but remember."
"I'm not telling you to forget. I'm just saying that when you remember that huge grin of hers, don't feel sad about it. You should feel happy and proud, because you were the one that put that grin there."
Kelly nodded, sniffing.
"You ok?"
She nodded again.
"So is this place still just nice?"
She laughed softly, "No. It's perfect."
"Good," Carrie smiled. "So...we seem to be all alone..."
"Hm..." Kelly looked around. "Looks like it."
"It's a shame we have to spend all this alone time crying like a bunch of girls."
"Well, what would you rather us do?" Kelly smiled as the country singer stepped her.
"Oh, I don't know..."
"Care."
"Yea?"
"Kiss me."
Carrie grinned, taking her face in her hands and pulling her to her for a kiss.
