Chapter 12
I started my patrol that night in the park. Just to make sure that no vamps were on the prowl there so I could focus on the werewolf. When I found nothing out of the ordinary, I decided to head to the forest where the werewolf had last been seen.
I started wandering around in the forest, keeping my eyes and ears open, to see if I could find the werewolf. An owl howled somewhere and suddenlhearheard some rustling in the bushed not far away from me. I made my way over to where I had heard the sound and found nothing but an injured bird. As much as I wanted to help the little bird, I couldn’t forget the reason why I was there in the first place. I moved away from the bird and started walking down a trail. I wandered for some time with no other company than the animals of the night, when all of a sudden I saw a strange shadow deeper into the forest. I sneaked up to the shadow and my suspicions were confirmed. It was the werewolf. A hideous beast if you ask me. I was about to pull out my gun when the monster saw me. He let out an animalistic growl and started coming toward me. Just as I had gotten the gun out it jumped me and knocked the gun out of my hand. I was pinned beneath it and I could smell its breath of old blood and rotten meat. I almost vomited, but knew I had to free myself of its grip if I was going to kill it. I figured my best shot was to somehow kick him in the groin, hoping that he at least was enough human for that to have the effect it would on a regular human being. I did it and my prayers were answered. bea beast jumped away from me as it let out an inhuman cry. I quickly got to my feet. I looked around to see if I could find the gun, but it was useless. I had to just injure it enough to make it incapable to move until I had the gun in my hands again. I drew out my knife and held it in my right hand as I waited to see if the beast was ready to attack me again. It was still lying on the ground, twisting and turning in pain. I figured it was as good a chance as any so I made my way over, ready to stab it.
Just as I was about to lunge the knife into its kidneys it raised a claw and struck my Sur Surprised, I stumbled back and grabbed my arm. I was hurt, but no more than I could still fight. I pounced in it again and tried a second time to stab it, but it was to fast and I ended up on the ground again. The sucker was stronger than I had imagined but I still held the knife firmly in my hand. It jumped on my again and tried to bite me were ever it could. artearted thrusting the knife into its back repeatedly, but it just kept trying to get a good bite out of me. It ripped my shirt with its claws, leaving cuts from my left shoulder to my stomach. I winced in pain, but I knew that if I gave up fighting I would surely be dead. I decided to try another approach and I hacked the knife into its throat. I soon regretted as the beast started fighting more. We rolled around on the ground stabbing, biting and scratching for a couple of minutes and as I finally felt my strength beginning to leave me I heard a shot. The beast lay dead on top of me. Somebody had found the gun and shot the beast, but who? I pushed the sucker off of me and sat up just in time to the guy running away. It was Nick. What the hell was he doing there? I decided to run after him to get some answers, but as soon as I stood, I felt the pain of my cuts. I winced and looked down at myself. My white shirt was covered in blood from the cuts on my arm and torso. I had to get home and clean up the wounds. They weren’t too deep, but they were bleeding and hurting like hell. I slowly walked out of the woods and began the long walk back to Kevin’s apartment. I needed to get cleaned up before I went to see Nick. It really wouldn’t be a good idea to walk into vampire headquarters covered in blood.
When I got the apartment it was empty, so naturally I assumed that Kevin’s date was going according to plan. I went to the closet where I kept all of my clothes and found a new outfit. I then went into the bathroom. I peeled of the bloody shirt and pants and started rinsing my wounds. It wasn’t an easy job to do, but I didn’t want to call anyone because then they’d worry and they most likely wouldn’t let me pay Nick a visit, which I intended to do. When I finished cleaning the wounds I bandaged them as best I could, and put on my new outfit. All I needed now, before I left to go see Nick, was a little drink. The cuts where hurting like hell, and frankly, I really needed something to keep my nerves in check before I went to see him. I don’t know why really. I don’t know why the thought of seeing Nick made me nervous. Apart from the fact that he could kill me, there was really nothing for me to be nervous about. I had come to terms with the fact that most vampires wanted me dead, just as I wanted them dead, so why was I nervous? I gubecabecause I was afraid to find out what Nick was up to. I knew he was up to something, or else he would have tried to kill me by now, I just didn’t know what. I guess that was what freaked me out.
I went into the living room, where I knew Kevin kept the booze, and I poured myself a gin and tonic. I sat down on the couch and slowly started drinking it, while at the same time trying to focus my thoughts. I kept trying to convince myself that I only wanted to see Nick because I wanted to know why he kept sparing my life, when in reality, I wanted just as much to see him just to see him. I had pushed the whole licking-of-lips episode to the back of my mind, but after he had saved my life today, which he had, my mind kept drifting back to that moment. When it happened, I had been scared shitless, but now, the more I thought about it, I actually think I enjoyed it. I guess that’s why I wanted to get to the bottom of this whole thing. I wanted to challenge him. To find out if he, when given the chance once and for all, would kill me, or at least tell me what was going on. I finished my drink and headed out of the door again.
When I reached the mansion in which Nick and his coven of vampires where hiding, I waited a couple of minutes before I went in. I took a couple of deep breaths and grabbed a stake, which I had brought with me just in case. I figured the vampires probably wouldn’t just let me walk in without a fight. I soon found out that I was right.
