Chapter 13
As Changmin guided Adrienne through the copious french doors and out into the garden, the faint clicking of Adrienne’s heels was the only sound that broke through the thick silence. Adrienne sighed and dragged her hand through her hair and her face scrunched in frustration has her finger got caught in a curl. Shaking her finger bitterly, she untangled her hand and threw up her arms in annoyance.
“I’m such an idiot!” she hissed before she spun around to face Changmin, “And you! I thought you said he liked me!” she glowered at him disdainfully as she accusingly poked him in the chest with her index finger.
Changmin sighed and crossed his arms across his chest, “Yes I did, and…hey stop that!” he swatted her intrusive finger away from him, “Look,” he sighed, “Jin has had a crush on Yoochun for…well for as long as I can remember, and he’s never returned her feelings…and never will for that matter. She attaches herself to him whenever she gets the chance. Trust me…you are the one he wants.”
Adrienne curled her fingers away from Changmin and dropped her arm to her side, “oh…” she whispered, “I…” she mumbled to herself as she sank into a small rot-iron bench. “Well I really feel like a complete idiot,” she finally finished. Changmin kneeled in front of her and shook his head, “Don’t…it’s understandable, you didn’t know the history behind it, plus it’s not like Yoochun ran to your side when you got there…the fool,” Changmin took her hands in his, “Don’t worry, it will all fall into place as it should, have a bit of faith in love….so, do you still want that dance?”
Adrienne lifted eyes to meet Changmin’s. It was too bad that she didn’t have any feelings for him because he would be the perfect boyfriend. As she became increasingly lost in her thoughts, a delicate aria floated to her ears, interrupting her thoughts, and Adrienne’s face finally relaxed. A shy smile crept across her face and she nodded, “That would be great, thank you Changmin, I don’t know what I would do without you.” He blushed slightly in response before gently pulling Adrienne up from the bench, “I do what I can, and someone’s got to look out for you, right?” She laughed as he slid his arm around her waist and took her right hand into his left. Adrienne rolled her eyes slightly as she began to sway with his rhythm, “Well, I prefer to think that I can look out for myself, but I guess everyone needs someone else every now and again….whooa!” Adrienne clutched to Changmin as he threw her back into a dip. She let out a low chuckle, “You should warn me when you are going to do something like that…” Changmin smiled mischievously, “And kill the element of surprise? Never! uh oh…” Changmin whispered as he lifted gaze to cast a worried glance through the strands of his hair that had fallen in front of his eyes. Adrienne lifted her head, “What’s wrong?” She asked as she brushed the hair out of Changmin’s eyes. He then dipped her slightly lower, and her head fell back. All she got before she was quickly returned to a standing position was an upside-down look at a very not happy Yoochun.
“YOU!!!” Yoochun barked and pointed accusingly as he stormed towards the two. “What do you think you are doing!?” Adrienne cast him an indignant glare as she crossed her arms. How dare he come out here accusing them of anything? Changmin was right, he was a fool…at least tonight he was. Changmin threw up his hands as a sign of good will, “Not what you are thinking, I’m sure. I was just out here entertaining Adrienne so she didn’t have to be indoors amidst the drama.”
“Entertaining…I’m sure,” Yoochun said as he shoved Changmin away from Adrienne, “I will deal with you later. Min, we need to talk,” Adrienne turned and glared angrily at him as she helped Changmin regain his balance. “Excuse me? If you so desperately need to talk to me, maybe you should change your tone, and not go around pushing my friends! Changmin are you all right?” Changmin nodded as he straightened his jacket. “Yeah I’m fine,” he stated before shooting Yoochun an annoyed look, “You and will talk later, I will leave you two. Min, come and get me if you need anything.” He gave her shoulder a slight squeeze of reassurance before he made his way back inside.
Adrienne shifted uncomfortable under Yoochun’s glare. Oh enough is enough!
“What? Don’t glare at me! I didn’t do anything!” She snapped.
“Didn’t do anything? DIDN’T do anything?” What the hell did I interrupt then?” He returned her glower.
“A simple dance among friends. I would have danced with you but you seemed to preoccupied with Jin….Oh don’t worry Changmin explained all that to me, and I was starting to actually feel a bit guilty for overreacting. But I do believe that your behavior just now pretty much justifies any anger or stubbornness that might come from me from here on out.”
Yoochun shifted slightly, whether in embarrassment or anger, neither knew. He shoved his hands in his pockets in attempts to steady himself. “If you would have stayed around…” he trailed off, waving his hand slightly in the air. Adrienne’s face went from annoyed to irate in two seconds flat.
“What!?” she demanded, pacing in front of him, “So now it’s completely my fault! You have a lot of nerve, Park…” she snarled.
Yeah, he did, he thought to himself. Grimacing slightly, he quickly tried to change his strategy. He was trying to save face and his incipient relationship with Adrienne in one swoop but…it seemed like he was doing more damage than good. Ok…so maybe storming out there wasn’t the best thing to do, but when pushed enough by emotion, logic just seemed to be lost in translation. He made a mental note to apologize to Changmin later.
“Oh forget it, this was a mistake…” Adrienne huffed as she spun around to leave. Yoochun’s face fell and then hardened. He was quickly running out of options.
Mistake? No! It’s no mistake! “No!” he cried out, his hand shooting out and grabbing her upper arm. The next fifteen seconds were like a lifetime, everything seemed to move in slow motion. He swung her around and pulled her against him. “Us…this, is no mistake.” Before he really contemplated his reactions or the consequences, he crushed his lips against hers.
Adrienne’s eyes widened impossibly and she let out a yelp that was muffled by Yoochun’s intrusive lips. She tried to pull away, half-heartedly, she later admitted to herself. Yoochun gripped her tighter in response, running his fingers through her hair and grasping her deep auburn strands whilst finally anchoring her lips against his with his hand at the nape of her neck. Feeling that he had successfully made his point, he relaxed his grip and eased his bruising kiss into a softer, tenderer one.
Adrienne was at a loss. This was definitely not what she had expected. Not that she didn’t think it possible…she just didn’t think that Yoochun had the guts to do it. She silently admitted to herself that well…it was nice. Yoochun’s thoughts, like Adrienne’s, slowly escaped him. He had tried to deny the obvious attraction between the two, the heat…as it were. For whatever reason he was unsure, he had at one point even convinced himself that there was something going on between Adrienne and Changmin, but Yunho’s berating of him earlier had finally proved otherwise.
Once Yoochun loosened his grip, Adrienne’s hands, which had been trapped against his chest when he had yanked her against him, slid down his chest and fell limply at her sides. She eventually realized that she should probably return the kiss, but she had lost all coherent thought a long time ago. Yoochun brushed Adrienne’s slightly parted lips with his own. He could definitely get used to this. Finally pulling away, just enough…just enough, he rested his forehead on hers.
Adrienne squeezed her eyes shut momentarily, slightly disappointed that the kiss had ended, and then finally gazed up at him through her eyelashes. She softly cleared her throat as she tried not to concentrate on the reaction that her body was having to Yoochun’s warm, wet breath on her cheeks. “Um…I…” she began. She did have thoughts right? A kiss couldn’t cause brain damage…so why was she at such a loss!
Yoochun chuckled softly and brought his hand up to her face. He gently brushed her cheeks with his thumbs, “Yeah…me too.” Adrienne smirked. She brought her hands up and rested them against his forearms because, frankly, she didn’t really have a clue as to what else to do. Yoochun drew his head back, finally looking down at her. Her cheeks were flushed and her lips were swollen. It was a look, he decided, that was quite appealing on her, and he quickly began to devise ways to see her like this often. “Look, “he whispered, “I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have reacted as I did. If I were in your shoes, I would have been upset to see what you did see. Actually I did get upset…when I first saw you and Changmin,” he cleared his throat slightly before continuing, “I over-reacted, forgive me?” He asked, sticking his bottom lip out in a slight pout. Adrienne smiled, “Well, you know…I suppose the kiss will have to do for now, but you are going to be doing a lot more to make up for this. The kiss was a good start though…”
Yoochun groaned as he wrapped his arms around her and buried his face against her neck. He inhaled deeply before saying, “Those are dangerous words, Min
