Disclaimer: I do not own Orlando Bloon or any other famous character that might be mentioned in this story. And unfortunately this story is just a result of my fantasy and not worth any money.
So finally, here is the next chapter. It's rather short, but I have suffered from a lack of creativity and time lately. Hope to get a bit more feedback now... It can't take that long to drop a few lines now, can it?
Thanks to all those who did review! I really appreciate it.
Chapter Twelve
“Katie! Katie!” Orlando shouted. He climbed into Jamie’s back garden. Where could she be? He checked his watch: half twelve. Where the hell did she go?
He sat down on the bench when suddenly he heard a crack. He looked up and saw their old tree house. With a smile on his face he quickly climbed up the latter
and found Katie there. She curled up in a corner, wrapping her arms around her knees and shivering. She had tears in her eyes, but somehow her face
brightened when she saw Orlando. He crawled towards her and immediately pulled her close to him. She was cold and so he took off his coat and wrapped it
around her shoulders. Katie immediately adjusted herself to his shoulder and for a while they just sat there in silence. Katie felt the warmth of his body creep into
her and slowly she felt herself relax in his embrace. “He is such an asshole…” she muttered into his coat. Orlando smiled. “Not only that, but he’s also stupid. I
mean who would leave a girl like you during the Spring Fest?”
“Exactly. He’s a stupid asshole!”
Orlando pulled her closer towards him and kissed her forehead. “You gave me quite a fright there, you know that?”
“Why? Did you think I was gonna jump off the next bridge?”
He chuckled “No, I didn’t think you were suicidal, but still something could have happened to you. Why didn’t you call me? I would’ve taken you home”
“Because you had such a great time with Valerie.”
Orlando suddenly bursted out laughing. “God, I was just waiting for someone to save me. She was obnoxious. Horrible! Her acne problems were pretty much
everything she was talking about.”
Suddenly Katie joined him in his laughter. “Aww, you poor guy! If I had known I’d have come to your rescue!”
They both laughed for a while until they finally managed to catch their breaths and calm down.
“Seriously now“, Orlando looked straight into her eyes, once again fascinated by their green sparkle and by the fact that he never got tired of them. “Craig was a
dumb head to leave you there. Don’t worry there’s tons of guys willing to take you to other festivals. He’s not worth it and he will soon regret his mistake.”
“Tons of guys?” Katie asked suspiciously. “Who?”
“Well, first of all there’s Jamie and me, and then…hm… that Eric fella from maths class, I think he has a thing for you, or Rory. He’s watching you all the time
during your sports class – and if every guy fails there’s still Isabella who seriously goes for you…” he smirked at her and gracefully ducked away when Katie hit
him with a pillow.
“You idiot. Isabella is not a lesbian, at least I don’t think so. And even if…why would it be me? Huh? And who’s Rory by the way?”
Orlando laughed again. “You haven’t even noticed him? The poor guy! He could wear a shirt with your name on it and you wouldn’t notice.”
Katie grinned a mean grin, but then relaxed in his arms again. “No, the next time I will take the two most gorgeous guys out – Jamie and your precious self!”
“I don’t know about Jamie, but…” he took a deep breath as he noticed his voice was fading. “I’ll take you.”
Katie flashed him one of those irresistible smiles that made her shine even brighter. With a quick move she placed a soft kiss on his cheek and then snuggled
up to him again. “I’m so glad, that I’ve got you. You’re the best man in my life and I never want to miss you!”
“You won’t have to – ever.” He whispered and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before he pulled her closer into a tight embrace.
*
“Honey! Hey honey, come in for a second!”
Orlando stopped as he was just passing by the door. He went into the room. He didn’t get used to the fact that she called him honey yet. “What is it?”
She was lying on her bed wearing her comfortable pyjama pants and reading one of those gossip magazines. For some reason she’s been doing that a lot lately.
“I was just wondering…Do you know a woman called Helen Rayes?”
He stood there wondering for a few seconds before he shook his head. “No, I don’t. Why? Should I?”
“Yes, you should, ‘cos you had an affair with her.”
He chuckled, “I did? Well, I guess you can’t remember all of them now, can ye?” He fell onto the bed beside her only to be hit on the head with the newspaper.
He ducked laughing at her temper. He leaned forw
ard and kissed her naked arm gently, but before he could move further up. He was pushed aside. “Don’t even try that now!”
Once again he chuckled. “What does she look like, maybe that’ll help me remembering.”
“I don’t care what she looks like. She’s definitely not as curvaceous as me though.” Katie grinned at him. “I wonder if I’ll ever get back into my old shape. I quite
liked it actually…”
“You look beautiful to me.” He leaned forward to kiss her and gently pushed her down into the pillows. He took away the magazine without her even noticing it
and then looked deep into her eyes. “Seriously though, I really didn’t know her.”
“I know,” Katie whispered and pulled him back into a long kiss.
But Orlando withdrew again. “90% of the chicks I supposedly had an affair or whatever else, I have never even seen in my life.” He bent forward to kiss her
again, but this time Katie drew away from him suspiciously.
“Well, maybe 80%...”
She raised an eyebrow.
“60! But that’s really about it.”
They both started laughing and lost themselves in another kiss. Then Orlando let her snuggle up to him.
“What are you reading these bloody gossip magazines for anyway? They’re rubbish!”
Her hand stroked his belly. “I need to keep up with you love life, hun.” She lifted her heavy body and looked at him.
“You know everything there is to know about it, babe.” He whispered.
She sighed deeply. “I guess it’s an old habit. You know, when you were doin’ all those movies and were famous and wouldn’t talk to me as if I had never existed
and all…”
“It sounds so cruel when you say that!” he interrupted her.
“It was,” she gazed at him for a few seconds, but then continued. They had agreed not to discuss this subject anymore. It was a matter of the past which they
had left behind.
“Anyways, back in that time I always bought those magazines if you were in them and then checked the chicks and guessed whether they might tell the truth how
it came to these pictures and all that stuff or…I don’t know, I just made up stories that fitted those pictures and made sense to me. That way I somehow felt
closer to you and as if I was still involved in your life…”
He swallowed. Things were great between them. She was the woman of his dreams and they were the perfect match. But still there were so many things they
needed to catch up on and sort out, especially things that had happened in the past.
“I swear, I’ll make it up to you, babe…” He kissed her deeply.
“I’m sure you will.” And there it was again. The cheek sparkle in her eyes and he had fallen for it yet again.
“Now what do you want?” He asked playfully.
She grinned. “There should be another one of those bloody gossip magazines down in the mailbox, would you mind getting it for me, before you leave?”
He laughed, but got up sighing deeply. “Alright, alright, you’ve got the pregnancy bonus!”
“No, the pregnancy bonus would be a cup of tea and a hot water bottle as well. My feet are killing me!”
He hesitated for a second trying to object, but she shot him one of those
“Poor-me-has-thanks-to-you-a-good-bit-of-extra-weight-to-carry-and-the-kitchen-is-soooo-far-away-“looks which he had never been able to resist. He got up
with another sigh, and went downstairs to get what she had asked for. After all, he was going to leave her alone all day today and in a few days he would be gone
for at least another six weeks. He hoped that he would make it back in time to see his son being born. His son…
He put on the kettle and then went outside to get the envelope with the magazines. Lucky enough, his house was mainly hidden by trees. Even if there were
sometimes fans outside who were patiently waiting for a sight of him, the fact that his house wasn’t noticeable from the street gave him at least some privacy.
He fixed the tea and the hot water bottle and went upstairs again. Carefully he placed the hot water bottle at her frozen feet and handed her the cup and
envelope.
Then he got up to get dressed. “I wonder why you’re still reading those magazines though. You’ve got me here right now and don’t need to make up stories
‘bout my love life. You get the ultimate inside information.”
Katie seemed unimpressed and answered dryly, “Well, then I keep up with Heath Ledger’s love life…do you think you could introduce us? I think we would really
hit it off.”
He growled, but didn’t answer. He had gotten used to her ironic comment by now. But suddenly the tone of her voice changed. A startled “Oh!” was all she
uttered. And then, “oh shit!”
“What? What is it, babe?” Her tone and the lack of words worried him in particular.
She didn’t say anything, but turned around the magazine she had just taken out of the envelope. And there it was, his nightmare: Katie and him on the front
page, her big belly clearly visible. He sat down on the bed beside her. The magazines were full of the pictures. They were going shopping together, having a
picnic in the park, even on their way to the doctor. The paparazzi had practically followed them everywhere.
Her eyes were fixed upon him. The frown on his forehead made her feel uneasy. They had known that this would have to happen sooner or later, but not now. He
was going to leave in two days and she would be here all by herself. She had no experience with this at all, had never handled any press before. She was scared
stiff, but what made it even worse was the ability to imagine what Orlando felt like. His dark eyes had narrowed and the frown on his forehead hadn’t vanished
yet. She wanted to take his hand, but didn’t dare to touch him. He was raging inside, torn apart between his anger about himself and the photographers and
worry. He tried to hide it, tried not to trouble her, but she could see it in his eyes. They were as usual reflecting what was going on inside of him. Not everybody
could see it. But she knew. Her heart raced. She anxiously waited for him to speak first. She knew he was trying to gain control again and come up with some
logical solution. He wouldn’t let her see him that troubled. He tried to be strong for her. She knew that it wouldn’t be that bad if it wasn’t for her pregnancy – her
quite complicated pregnancy. The doctor had told her to stay in bed. She had had to take her motherhood time off early and rest. This kid was wearing her out
entirely. By now she was in the seventh month, knowing already that this would be a hard birth and maybe even an early birth. Not only that the thoughts of the
pain she would be going through in a few weeks from now scared her to death, but now this.
To her surprise she could see Orlando relax now. He got up and went to the window. The silence between them was unbearable for Katie at the moment. He
looked out for a while as if he was scanning the area around the house. Then he turned towards her again.
“When will the magazines be out officially?”
“Tomorrow, I guess.”
“Okay, I’ll ask Lindsay to come ‘round and look after you, and then I’ll arrange the security for you. I’m sure she’ll take care of you until I’m back tonight. And
then we’ll discuss the rest, okay?”
She only nodded bravely, but Orlando could see how she was struggling. She was pregnant after all. He shouldn’t have worried her that much. So he sat down
beside her on the bed and embraced her. Katie accepted this offer gratefully.
He had never seen her so vulnerable before. This pregnancy was completely wearing her out. She had always been the strong one, the one who had kicked his
ass, who had been there for him and encouraged him whenever he needed it. Now it was his turn to do that for her.
“If you don’t want me to leave I’ll call in sick.” He whispered into her ear.
That was all the reassurance she needed. Swallowing the tears she straightened up again and shook her head. “No, you go ahead and do your job. Send Lindsay
over, that’s great. She’s better at cooking anyway.” She grinned at him and he was glad to see that her humour hadn’t left her.
“She has a key, doesn’t she? I couldn’t make the stairs. I’m so tired I can hardly make it to the toilet…”
“I’ll take care of it. Anything else?” He squeezed her hand reassuringly.
“Just make sure that you’ll be back as soon as you can. Okay?”
“Of course. I’ll be back before you notice that I have even been gone, alright?”
Hearing him use the sentence that her parents had so often used to calm her down, made her smile. He was after all the man for her.
He kissed her forehead gently. “Try to get some sleep now, okay?” He got up and with a look at the magazines he added, “Do you need a decent book?”
She smiled. “Nah, I’ll just sleep I guess.”
He bent down again and kissed her lips first and then her belly as was his habit. Then he tugged her into the covers and kissed her again. “Bye, Katie, Bye
Baby.” He whispered before he finally left the room.
