It was a cold morning when Frank saw the moving trucks drive up to the house next to theirs. They had been living there for almost three months, and Frank used to stare at the next door house every time he walked pass it.
It was huge, bigger then theirs, and old.
"That's why it's so awesome." Frank explained to Gerard again as they looked through their kitchen window at the moving trucks.
Gerard sighed and kissed Frank's cheek before turning around to take care of the dishes. He wasn't half as impressed by the house as Frank, but he agreed that it was a pretty cool house.
"Should we go over there and like, give them… uh a gift basket or something?" Frank suddenly asked causing Gerard to smile. Gerard liked how cute Frank could be sometimes. With his random statements or girlish giggles when he thought about something he liked. Gerard shrugged and gave Frank a 'why not' look.
Frank grinned and left the window to kiss Gerard, before he walked out of the room and in to the hallway.
"I'm gonna go to the store and buy something for them, okay?" He yelled but left before Gerard had a chance to reply. Gerard shook his head as he finished of the dishes and sighed when he heard the car start and then drive away.
Sometimes he thought Frank was too impulsive for his own good, but that's why he loved him so.
*
Nervously Frank walked up to the neighbor's door holding a basket with muffins and wine in his left hand. Gerard was holding his right hand and squeezing it gently. He understood that Frank was nervous, what if their new neighbors were homophobic? But that was a risk they were going to take, Gerard and Frank refused to hide their relationship.
Frank hesitated a few seconds before knocking on the door. At first they heard nothing, but soon they heard footsteps coming from inside, and Gerard saw Frank scooting a little closer to him as he swallowed.
The door swung open and there stood a man with brown hair, looking at them curiously. He was about Gerard's height, and he had brown eyes matching his hair. He looked kind of like he had just jumped right out from a horror movie. Or at least that's what Gerard thought. He didn't know why, but the man scared him a little, and he could sense that Frank felt the same way.
"May I help you?" He asked, his voice deep and unpleasant.
He stared them down, letting his eyes linger at their entwined hands.
"Yeah we're your neighbors, we live over there" Gerard pointed to their house before continuing. "And we just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood."
Frank held the basket up towards their neighbor shyly. The man stared at it for a few seconds before giving them a smile that didn't reach his eyes. He took the basket from Frank and put it down in front of him and extended his hand.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Riley Grant." "Gerard Way." Gerard said as he shook Mr. Grant's hand.
"I'm Frank Iero." Frank said nervously shaking Mr. Grant's hand as well.
After shaking his hand they both stood there a little unsure of what to do. However Mr. Grant picked up the basket and shifted his weight. "I have some unpacking to do, but it was nice meeting you two."
Gerard and Frank replied the same and Mr. Grant closed the door as they turned to leave.
"He was scary." Frank said shuddering as they walked through the gate to their own yard a few seconds later. Gerard nodded and looked over his shoulder at the house they had just left.
"He looks like he's one of those guys from a horror movie." Frank continued biting his lip. Gerard turned towards him and pulled his hand to make him stop.
"Don't be afraid Frankie; I'll never let anyone hurt you." With that he kissed Frank before he had a chance to reply.
Soon they were making out on the front lawn, not aware that their new neighbor was staring at them through his window.
*
"I wonder if he lives alone." "Frank give it a rest honey." Gerard had had enough of Frank talking about their new neighbor since that was all he had talked about since they went over there with the basket.
Frank pouted and sat up from lying with his head on Gerard's lap. They were sitting on the cough in the living room, and they had just finished watching a movie.
"But I'm curious." Frank insisted as he stood up and walked over to the backdoor. He opened it and walked out onto their backyard, Gerard following closely behind him.
"Frank if you're going to spy on him again I advice you not to."
Frank ignored the warning tone in Gerard's voice and simply walked over to the two swings he had talked Gerard into putting up in their yard. He sat down on one of them, facing the old house next to theirs.
Gerard rolled his eyes but sat down on the swing next to Frank's.
"For all we know he can be a great guy, maybe he just had a bad day." Gerard said again. He tried his best to convince Frank that Mr. Grant wasn't some murderer, but Frank wouldn't listen.
"Did you see how he stared at our hands?" "Yes Frank, but I don't care."
Frank sighed in defeat. He knew he had no real reason to dislike Mr. Grant so much, but he did anyway.
He just didn't like the way he stared at them, or the way he had grinned at Gerard when he had been outside on his backyard smoking. There was something in the look he gave Gerard that made Frank uneasy. Of course it was all in his head, he knew that… but still.
He guessed it was just because he cared so much about Gerard.
*
For the next two days Frank's suspicion towards Riley only grew. Yes they had gone to call him Riley since they spent some time in his house helping him move some of his heavier furniture, and then the three of them had said to call each other by their first names. Of course Frank only said it because Gerard wanted it, he still disliked Riley. And still it was without any real reason.
But there was something about Riley's eyes. Something about the way he looked at Gerard. Of course he had asked if they were a pair, and Gerard had proudly said that they were engaged. But to that Riley just smiled and congratulated them.
Gerard liked Riley, a lot. He talked about him when they went to bed, telling Frank how lucky they were to have such a great neighbor. Frank agreed without the enthusiasm that Gerard had.
He knew he was being ridiculous, and he didn't want Gerard to know how much he disliked Riley.
*
"Frank, what's up?" Gerard asked as they lay on their bed snuggling. Frank shrugged and murmured that it was nothing. Gerard however could read Frank like an open book and he knew something was bothering him.
"Please baby, tell me what's wrong." Gerard pulled Frank up from his chest so he could look him in the eye. Frank leaned in to kiss Gerard and then broke away to gaze into his eyes.
"I promise, it's just something I have to figure out on my own. Don't worry." Frank smiled and kissed Gerard again. Gerard sighed but dropped it; he knew Frank would tell him when he was ready.
"Okay, goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Right before Frank drifted off into a sleep Gerard opened his mouth to speak again.
"Oh and I'm going to hang with Riley tomorrow, just so you know."
After that sentence Gerard fell asleep, but Frank couldn't sleep. He didn't want Gerard to spend any time alone with Riley, but he hadn't been invited to come. And that hurt, it hurt that Gerard didn't ask him to come with. It hurt that he had just said it like that, like… oh God.
Frank turned from Gerard and hid his face in the pillow.
"I'm freaking insane, there's nothing wrong with Gerard having a friend." Frank closed his eyes firmly to make his horrible thoughts stop. He knew that of course Gerard had the right to have a friend that he wanted to hang out with alone. He knew Gerard loved him and would never do anything to hurt him.
"I'll just hang with Bob tomorrow or something." Frank thought before finally falling asleep.
